This location does a great job lifting up PRIDE, and highlights minority authors and banned books. FanGirl for that. Many Yelpers verbalize complaints about low exchange rate on books we bring in. I also observe this. But I am glad for the opportunity to lower my haul by selling books. I rarely leave with less than one toteful of purchases so anything helps.

They have been independently and family-owned for over 40 years, and they are a must-stop for all book and music lovers out there. This store is HUGE with over half-a-million books, movies, music and memorabilia. However, I think what makes them extra special is the curated selection of Horror and Thriller books, including some very unique collectibles. I am more into contemporary, so keep in mind those books are located on the top floor of their second building. Their children's book section was also incredible but frankly I didn't have the patience to go through them. This store can be a little overwhelming so definitely take a breath and ask for help if you can't find the genre you are looking for.

The children's area had the most toys I've ever seen at any of these places. And even thought it's large, I saw things that remind me of what a thoughtful bookstore should have in it. Children sitting on benches reading and laughing. Teens talking about the books they're buying and looking forward to reading that story. And adults having fun with their children. And I must say, isn't that what a bookstore should be about? Laughter, imagination, excitement to read. It truly made my heart happy to see and feel their joy as I walked through the book isles. There's a B&N store close to my house, and I never see or feel what I experienced at this store. That speaks volumes to me. And yes, I bought a book. Every year I look for that special Halloween book I can share with my granddaughter. Today I added the children's book, "We Are Already Haunting Here" by Gideon Stere. This Barnes and Noble is inside of Stonebriar mall in Frisco. When I first walked in, I thought it to be a small store until I saw the escalators which brought me downstairs to a whole different level. Essentially, this is a full size, Barnes and Noble, and more! They even had sections that I have not seen in any other Barnes & Noble store. They had a whole selection of toys and games. They also had sections for different age groups on the activity toys. What I really enjoyed about the atmosphere here though, is all of the activity I saw. I saw family sitting down in the kids, section with parents reading to their children. I saw teenagers that were obviously walking in the mall that had stopped in the road to look at the young teen section and sit down with books. I saw families browsing together, individuals, browsing together and groups of all ages, checking out things, or sitting in nooks reading books. It was really a great vibe, and this place seem to be a community gathering place. Barnes & Noble has several different ways to score some bargains in their store. What is the typical look for the sales. For example, on this particular trip I saw several tables that had relatively new released books on sale for half price. You can get great prices also by becoming a member of their royalty buyers program. They have a couple different options on that depending on whether you're a casual reader and shopper or you're an avid reader, and shopper. I do not read as much as I used to so these days the free membership makes the most sense for me. Deep Vellum Books is a gem. Let me tell you why…read more Deep Vellum Books is the storefront and headquarters of Deep Vellum Books & Publishing, a nonprofit literary arts organization and the largest publisher of literature in translation in the US (I did not know that!!!!). They stock their own titles as well as a curated selection of literary fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. I visited with my family (dad, stepmom, adult siblings, husband) last weekend, and we spent way more time in the store than we expected to given the store's size. It's not large, but the store is packed with interesting and unusual and harder to find titles. I started to read a book's dusk jacket flap blurb, which led to a conversation about the book with the staff in the shop. (I bought it, I already read it, I loved it.) It's that kind of store - I was walking around, reading blurbs out loud to my family - finding book after book that piqued my interest. I left with a book, my siblings with two or three each, and my dad with at least one. There were six of us, and we bought maybe 8 books. The staff working the day we were visited were incredible, chatting with us about books, telling us about Deep Vellum, and answering our questions about their events. It's clear that people who work at Deep Vellum love books and that always makes shopping at a bookstore more wonderful. (I'm not sure I would have taken home the book I did if I hadn't chatted with a store employee for a few minutes about it - it's a little out of my wheelhouse - but I loved and I'm so glad I picked it up). The store hosts book clubs which sound amazing. I mean how many bookstores offer a "Homer Out Loud" book club that meets to read Homer's epics out loud once a week!? Or has a book club called "Underdogs in Space" that meets once a month to talk about underread sci-fi books?! If you're in Deep Ellum and you love to read anything at all - make your way over to Deep Vellum. It's a great organization and a great bookstore. I couldn't love it more.

The ppl who worked there are incredibly knowledgeable and can offer wonderful suggestions if you tell them the genres/writers you like, no matter how niche! They had a lovely array of diverse books--they featured books, authors, languages, genres, and themes from all backgrounds. There were lots of translated books and books they published there. There's also a book club they host if you're interested in joining--they read underrated sci-fi works and discuss them on site. 12/10 would come back again :)
