I purchased a book the day before and looked in the book and thought it was in good condition. when I got it home I realized several pages had been torn out and when I took it back this morning to see if I could exchange it. The employee at the register was so rude and nasty with the way she spoke to me I ended up purchasing the new version on Amazon for less than $2 difference while I was waiting for my return, and mind you... I won't be treated disrespectfully and talked down to by someone that clearly hates people.. and it will now be delivered to my doorstep. Knowing I will have a lot of books to purchase for school this year, I was hoping this was going to be a good option. But thankfully I learned quickly my money wasn't wanted here. Very horrible customer service and at 10:28 am, when you open at 10am.. come on! that's just not necessary. read more

Easy to access location, plenty parking, good selection in this location. Compared to "local" second hand books stores, prices are higher, but this is a great operation, well run and organized with a great offering of books, music, and related items. This location does a great job lifting up PRIDE, and highlights minority authors and banned books. FanGirl for that. Many Yelpers verbalize complaints about low exchange rate on books we bring in. I also observe this. But I am glad for the opportunity to lower my haul by selling books. I rarely leave with less than one toteful of purchases so anything helps. read more

As you can see from the picture, I took several items to sell. Amongst them 7 PS4 games, 16 regular DVDs, 4 Blu-ray DVDs, 6 books in new condition signed by the author, 2 other hardbacks with the dust jackets, and a brand new monopoly game. The offer I received was $31. It wasn't an offer, it was an insult. I sincerely wouldn't bother selling to this particular store. Their offer was absolutely worthless. read more

I have no idea what Manga is, but I was on a mission to get a few things for a dear friend's daughter. They were impacted by Hurricane Helene in my native NC -- everyone is safe, though -- and she'll be out of school for about 3-4 weeks. I love that she's a reader, but she had to explain Manga to me a bit. LOL! She's also getting into reading the classics, which I *do* know. Half Price Books was the place to go -- they even had "Manga" on one of the aisle signs!! #thankyou I was able to get her four Manga books, as well as 5-6 classics for a great price. While I was there, several employees checked on me to see if I needed any help, but not overly so. This is a great place to get gently loved books at great prices. This is a good location for browsing books and music. I can always find something interesting to read here and appreciate purchasing 2nd hand particularly for older books. They are a good value overall. Service has always been friendly. read more

I do like this location when it comes to buying the books that I am looking for. I feel like it's a great selection. But if you're going to sell your books (especially new and/or special editions) DO NOT DO IT! The last couple of times I have gone in to sell, I brought in at least 20 books. The same guy did both boys, and only offered me little to nothing for the books. I only sell books that are in EUC to new, and I have a lot of special edition books. One special edition book alone cost me more than what I was offered for all of my books. I was very upset about this. You're going to give me $1 per book and then go sell them for $20+. The first time I sold at this location, a girl was at the buy counter and offered me twice the amount for the same amount of books. There's obviously a disconnect here and I will not be selling here anymore. read more

Absolutely great place to hang out, bring kids and find great deals. I get a lot of sociology books here and find a lot of great deals on books I see elsewhere for much more. The sales associates try to be helpful but most of the time they are incorrect. I've been told on two occasions they didn't have a book, only to find them both in the store upon looking in different sections. I wish their system was better. Today I asked for Joe Landsdale's book The Bottoms and the guy said they didn't have it, but could get it transferred. Right past the checkout was a huge display with the book on there! Other than that, I freaking love this place. It's far better for finding cool books than overpriced Barnes & Noble. read more

Love, love, love this place! Better then any library. They have paperbacks, hardbacks, and books on tapes! There is a bigger store on north west highway, however, this place is best when you want to avoid a drive. You can grab cd's and actual albums. Some are dated from the early 1960's. That's so cool that music on vinyl has survived so long. Prices vary. If you like books that can be off the beaten path and still enjoy turning pages of a book then your home! Books allow you to use your imagination. What an awesome discovery for new people joining the book world! I will be back! read more

I really really love Half Price Books. I can't express enough how excited I am to troll through their aisles and find books that I had been too cheap to buy when they were new and be satisfied knowing that I'll be busy with them for the next week or two. Not as big as the mega-HPB in Dallas but totally worth a stop. You'll be surprised what you can find! read more

Huge selection of books. Just what you'd expect. Walls and walls and shelves and shelves of books. Just perfect. I wasn't there for books though (I have been before, but not on my last visit). They have a nice selection of used board games. There's also a lot of puzzles as well. They have video games for all kinds of consoles. Still have a Playstation 2? Me too. And guess what? They have a ton of games for that. Still have a Wii? Yep, me too. And you know what? They have a good variety of Wii games. Oh, you know... They also have a good selection of games for the newer consoles too. I did actually see one NES game, so that was pretty cool. Anyway, when I was there, I checked out all the board games. People love having game nights, and I have joined in on the madness. When I was there, I ended up getting three games (Battleship, The 90's Game, and What's Yours Like?). It cost me about $20 for three games. That's amazing. All the pieces were there, and all of the games were in great condition. Yes, I suggest coming here if you want to get some books, but I also suggest checking them out if you're looking for other fun stuff. read more

Do not sell your books here unless you're working with Greg - he is the assistant manager! I cannot believe the experience I have had trying to sell books here: rude looks, disrespectful comments, and completely off fast to complete what they need to. I have been here for over two hours with boxes of books. The voicemail explains you can make an appointment, but when you try you can't. Greg began the process and he was amazing, knowledgeable, answered my questions! He pasted it off to shift leader Victoria who wouldn't focus on the task at hand leaving me standing for over two hours. Exhausting. Not to mention the sly comments to her co workers. Nick would be the only reason I would return, without his kindness I would never do business with this half price books! read more

Found some good deals in here...smaller store but still packs lots of books, no seating so be prepared for your bum to hit the floor, they have records here and other trinkets as well, friendly staff, you will more than likely leave with something to read...I'll be back. Had a rude encounter with a male employee. Even before this I called and heard a click with no noise, almost as if the phone had been picked up and hung up. I called again to ask around how long it takes for them to sort through books if we bring them up. He responded dramatically by saying "it literally changes every 5 minutes so there is no way for me to give you a time" which I get, ok yeah they get a lot of books but there has to be a range of time?? That's all I'm looking for. So I said, "ok well can you give me a reference for what it looks like right now- a few minutes- an hour- the whole day?" and he said, "no because then I would be lying." Wow. Can you say dramatic much? It makes me so upset, I just wanted to speak to a friendly worker who could give me a range and if I drove up there and it changes from 15 minutes to an hour who cares! I can entertain myself. But for this employee to say "I literally have no idea because then I would be lying." No sir. That is rude. And dramatic. And you can't sit there and tell me you have no idea because I'd bet it doesn't take the store a week or a month to sort through a set of books that one person brings in- so in fact you can give me a range. Even if he said 10 minutes to five hours! Cool! Then I'll drop them off and go somewhere until they call me back. Rude, rude, rude. That's all I have to say about this male employee. Been going here for years. I've been selling to this store since they opened, and I've noticed they don't pay a lot for CD's or VHS anymore, who could blame them? Who buys them anymore. :) I really love the record section, and the nostalgia collection. I built an entire vintage Nancy Drew collection from books at this store. I also love the vintage posters, nick-nacks, coffee mugs, and bookmarks they sell. Really cute, and you can't find them anywhere else. This store is not as big as the Dallas, Plano, Richardson, or Frisco location, but you will still find neat stuff if you take the time to browse. The staff is friendly, and the store is clean. Sometimes they only have one cashier when there is a long line. Besides that, this is a location worth going to. read more

I love this HPB. Let's be honest - I love all HPBs (except for hat one in Waco. Lame). I've been to this location multiple times over the years and always have a good experience. They, like all HPBs are well-stocked with a good variety of, well, everything. They have a nice clearance section, too. Score. The employee that checked me out was friendly and smiley. The only complaint I have about my experience had nothing to do with the store itself and had everything to do with other customers. It's a bookstore. Why would people talk to each other SO LOUDLY? I love Half Price Books. Went to this location for the first time today and was not disappointed; tons of books to browse, well organized, priced well, staff was upbeat/friendly. I left 3 hours later with quite a new collection :) Records here are generally not cheap, but I only go for the books. They are often used and you can find some with underlining and others with tons of notes so flip through the book before buying but totally worth the trip! read more

This location is close to my office. I have stopped here a few times. I found it a little harder to navigate than the other locations I've been in, but I managed to figure it out. The associates at this location have been very friendly and helpful. Again, I can go in here and spend hours looking at books. It's hard for me to walk in there with a limited amount of time so if I go at lunch I have to really try to cut it short or I'll be in there longer than my entire lunch break! ;-) read more

I've been shopping at Half Priced Books for years but I won't be coming back to this one until they make it user-friendly for the handicapped. I have recently been required to use a wheelchair to get around. And after having a very difficult time getting around in this store, with the narrow isles and book carts blocking several of them, I didn't feel very welcome in there. read more

The original Half-Priced I got used to was the one on NW Highway and I just loved it. Then I went to the one in Richardson and was happy with it. This one seems smaller than the one in Richardson but that could just be the lay-out. There didn't seem to be as many strategically placed impulse buy idea, but then I guess that's okay. I came out with three Koontz books and a popular hardback for $29. Considering the one Koontz book at Market Street is $10, I see the bargain and am happy to have the books. Selection seems decent enough for the type of books I want. I still like the other two locations better but this one isn't bad at all and I'll be back. read more

@halfpricebooks is my favorite place to hang out. This HPB is closest to my house and I love to come in and search for the newest deal. I'm a teacher and my students love it when I visit HPB because I find some great books for $1 in the clearance section. I also love to buy the $1 clearance records...that's right...records! I have a record player in my classroom and torture/entertain students with classic records from days gone by! Each HPB has a special selection of records, books, magazines, movies and I just can't stop looking for the next great deal! 4 stars because it is great, but the bigger stores get all 5 stars! read more

In the deprived life I live today, there are only two bookstores I can reach on my bicycle. This is one of them. The good side: It's a bookstore! I can bicycle there! I don't have to order from Amazon! The downside: I'm largely a genre reader. In recent years, this has meant, in order, science fiction and fantasy; mystery; paranormal romance. (Yes, I'm male, hup hup, flex my biceps. I can get paranormal romance on the fantasy aspect, and I don't mind the romance side of it, so long as it isn't too sappy, and the paranormal side is well throught through. Also, as someone who grew up when women were virtually absent from sf/f, I'm delighted that there are whole subgenres that are devoted to them.) But yeah, Texas is not occupied by sf/f sophisticates, so a slew of boring military fiction here. I miss living somewhere with an adequate sf/f specialist that can curate new releases for me (when I get to SF, I drop $100 plus on books at Borderlands). But hey. Some bookstore is better than none. And you can't complain about the pricing. read more

I can spend hours here...you save tons of money buying books from here. The only thing I would say negative is if you are looking for a specific book it may or may not be here. From a consumer perspective, they have an ample supply of interesting and relevant books to whatever your needs may be. CDs, movies, video games and more from floor to ceiling. Everything is organized and neat; however that is from the buyers point of view. If you are in the position of trying to sell something; be warned, they will take the price of what your items are actually worth and halve that. And then halve that again. (Maybe even a third time). They claim it's based on demand, quality, and relevancy but I doubt this much. For reference, I came in with a full manga set (14 books total) of brand new (and I mean practically mint) books from the Mirai Nikki manga series, and was offered an utterly pathetic and insulting $10. Yes, $10. Again, kind (mostly) staff, great selection, and enough books to keep you busy for a looong time,....but absolute garbage offers. Make of this warning what you may. read more
