Love that they still put out "new media" when you enter the library. Some don't do that (ie: Harrington). Very noisy likely coming from the Children's area. It seems staffers don't or can't do anything to enforce the quiet. To a certain degree, it's the Karen parents who could care less what their kids do. The parking lot was crowded where it counted. I love Parr library. It feels spacious, well organized, and pleasant to be at the library. There are lots of desk spaces and study rooms, and it's pretty quiet, perfect for studying and focusing. They have a very good collection of books with a very user friendly website. The staffs are very kind and aways welcoming. Strongly recommend Parr Library. read more

OK, this is totally unfair: having the Library namesake review his pride and joy! But that's not going to stop me. This library is unique in that it was designed by an architect who had never designed a library before he won the bid. He knew he was thus incompetent. But he did his homework in a unique way: he visited the other four libraries in Plano, interviewed the librarians, and asked each two questions about their facilities. "What works, and what doesn't work?" The result was a venue about which the librarians rave; the workflow is ideal. Now as patrons, you might not be impressed by that, but it means that the librarians go about their business as efficiently as possible, meaning better service to their customers. It is one of the ways Plano can provide the best bang for the City's buck. As a retired academic (you see my messy university office in the official portrait), there is NO structure I'd rather be associated with than a library! And you might see me there, adding books, magazines, and media to the Book Sale shelves (beneath the portrait). While you patronize the library to BORROW books, etc., please know that when you're done with books you've PURCHASED, you can donate them (and magazines and media) to the library for resale. The Friends of the Library manage those sales, and the proceeds ($100K+! per year) go back to the library for special collections, STEAM projects, computers, vans, librarian professional development, and whatever else the library needs!! So be generous with your donations and benefit not only the libraries but also those who buy your donations. read more

One of our favorite libraries!! I take my 2 year old to story times at different libraries around the metroplex and this is definitely one of the nicest ones in terms of activities for kiddos. They have wonderful, highly interactive and educational story times for different ages, multiple times a day throughout the week. Today's gathering featured a quality puppet show that had the room packed! After watching the performance kids can create their very own puppet show in the children's area, which is equipped with a mini stage and big box of various puppet friends to choose from. There's also a well-stocked, wooden play kitchen that resembles a Montessori classroom that my daughter LOVES. I also really love the various puzzles and educational play kits you can check out, including nature slides and magnatiles to play with on the light table! There are even several play tablets and large interactive media tables where children can draw and play games. Finally, although I don't think it's directly connected to the library, there's a great outdoor playground just across the parking lot which provides a full day of activities with paired with a trip to the library. My only complaint: no free WiFi unless you live in plano and get a library card. You can purchase a non-resident annual membership, but it's pricey just to use the internet. Definitely a bummer since every other library we've visited offers it, but we still really enjoy coming. If they made that open access and added a small café, I'd probably consider Parr the best library in the metroplex for families! Either way I'm thankful for the great children's amenities they do provide!! read more

I was in 5th grade when this library opened and I'm now finished with college and still come here as an adult so I can tell you how great this library is from a perspective of a kid, teenager, and an adult I always loved the kid section. Great new books coming in all the time and a section for storytelling in the corner. Great selection The teen section also always had the book I was looking for and was spacious enough for any type of work. I remember how many high school projects and papers I finished in this library. Still come here as an adult to use the computers or get work done from my job. This place is so quiet and peaceful- I've always gotten more work done here than anywhere else. The librarians are also so courteous, helpful, and knowledgable. I feel so lucky this library is walking distance from my home. A true gem! read more

This review is primarily for the story time offerings they have for little ones, as I haven't borrowed books from this library. You can get a library card here even if you're not a Plano resident, but it won't allow you to share in the eBook privileges that residents get. The facility itself is nowhere near as "shiny and new" as the Frisco library, but that's to be expected since it's older; in fact, this library makes me nostalgic for the suburban library I went to in CA when I was a kid. It has that library book smell, you know what I mean? That's a good thing. I've been to both baby and toddler story time here, and it's very well done. The librarians who run it are knowledgeable and enthusiastic. And although they don't have the projection screen/bells and whistles that the Frisco library has, it doesn't really matter because they also don't have the intensely large crowds that you see at story time in Frisco. During story time here, you and your child sing songs, listen to two books, a flannel board story, and one play-acting type activity. It's educational and fun and free. After story time, there is time for your child to play with toys (at the baby story time) or flannel shapes (at the toddler time). It's nice not to be rushed out of the room to accommodate the next group. This library also has a great variety of board books and children's books to peruse, along with lots of puzzles, a puppet area, a light table, a car table, a large bead maze, and a couple of rocking chairs. It's very welcoming, and my child enjoys coming early to explore the children's area before story time starts. Bring your kid here for story time. It's worth checking out. read more

This is a small library but I usually go online and place my books on hold and then pick them up. I like the staff so much that although they have the self check-out kiosks I prefer to interact with the librarians. The library has a small business center where you can fax, print and scan documents, a computer center and a couple of racks of books and magazines that are for sale. Overall a pleasant experience. read more

Fairly small but it's nice and quiet in the morning. The staff is really friendly and welcoming. No designated quiet study area but they have a few rooms where you can study for 2 hours (more unless someone else is asking for it). Otherwise there are big tables scattered throughout. Some tables are next to a wall and have outlets. Others have an outlet on the floor but if you're unlucky, you might get stuck with a table with no outlet. They keep it at a pretty low temp so bring a jacket if you get cold easily. read more

I love this library- I've been to quite a few around the country since I didn't grow up in the area and I would say this is an above average library. Their selection of books and digital loans, coupled with a great children's section (its rather larger than others I've seen) plus the ability to learn how to use and borrow audio/visual equipment is pretty amazing for a local library. I would definitely recommend getting a card here if you can! The librarians I've spoken with were all informed and professional, and the programs they hold for kids here are great! read more

Children's Librarians are great, and a few great staff in other sections. But there have been some rude and unprofessional people on the non-children side. Shockingly so. I recommend another Plano Library location instead. read more

Friendly librarians who don't shun you if you lose a book (oops!). They just have you pay for it and you can even check out a book that same day. They have a great collection there and throughout the Plano Public Library System. Easy to use online system as well for rechecking and requesting books. Since I was a kid I've loved the feeling of walking into a library, searching for a good book and checking it out. I've driven by this location for years on way to work and for some reason never noticed it on the corner of Windhaven. I was recently looking for a very popular book and decided to check to see if it was at the Parr location and found that it was. I ran in to grab it but couldn't locate it. The librarian helped me search the online catalogue and walked me over the new release section to find it. In addition to friendly librarians they have plenty of self checkout kiosk and good parking. read more

Small Library with a great staff. They have a group study room that is a bit small. You can reserve a quiet room for 2 hours. Great place to take the kids of course. Plenty of open computers at the time I visited the library ( 12pm to 2pm on a Wednesday). Easy to print off documents however kind of expensive for a library (.60) for one copy. Overall this library will satisfy your basic needs. read more

The children's department staff is outstanding. Unfortunately, I found some other staff (adult side) to be extremely rude, unprofessional, and lacking in knowledge. I recommend Davis Library, or Schimelpfenig instead. read more
