One can go online and browse, put books on hold and check them out. Contact library for details but once a book is ready for check out go to library, call them inside with library card nr. and they will get book(s) check them out and bring to front door for you to get. The library I went to for the past 9 years or so. They have a great selection of books, magazines, DVDs, CDs, etc. and computers for patrons to use. I also appreciate how there are TONS of library events for ALL ages throughout the year. There are story times for the little ones, arts and crafts for kids, video game nights for teens, and reading clubs, Mahjong games, and technology classes for adults, as well as general events for families. Dates and times for such events are conveniently and easily found on their website. My only complaint is that this library is on the smaller end compared to other Plano libraries. Because of this, it's not the best place to sit and study, read, or work. Bummer. It gets pretty loud throughout the day, because the "quiet" rooms are near the Kids section, self-check out kiosks, and entrance, whereas the cubicle-like desks in the back are near open tables where tutoring happens. However, this library serves its function well and has plenty of resources to offer the community. Summary: ambiance (depends on what you're looking for) 3/5, service 5/5. read more

This is our local library. We go on a regular basis with our kids. It's very well stocked with both adult and children's books (even though sometimes you have to wait for popular books a little - that makes the good online system very convenient) . It has an extra little section for the kids with toys so they can stay entertained even when they're not helping you pick out books for them. My kids love it! The library also has several computers with internet connections you can work on and it has a side room for events. There are automatic self-check-out stations so you don't have to stand in line to check out books. Outside there is a drive-through book-drop, but curiously it sometimes is locked when the library is closed. Altogether it's all you can want in a local library. read more

I'm mainly reviewing the "study" area, since that's about all I ever use at a library. There are a lot of study rooms that can be reserved online, although they're often fully booked. There is a large open area with plenty of tables and electrical outlets at each table. Unfortunately, it isn't a quiet space. On weekdays before schools dismiss, this can be a nice play to go work or study. However, on weekends and early evening on weekdays, it's louder than a school cafeteria. There are plenty of tutors talking loudly with their pupils, and high school groups that meet to work on projects. It would have been better if there were a larger dedicated quiet space, and a separate collaborative space. read more

Today was family night. My kids really enjoyed the story and the puppet show. I found the staff in the childrens section very polite and helpful. They have ipads with kids games and 2 interactive tables with activities/coloring . My kids made new friends when exploring both. They picked their books and did the self checkout. Overall, a very good visit. read more

Frequent user of this library, but it's not my favorite in the Plano Library system (just the closest to my house). Compared to other libraries in this system...this library is extremely loud, which is the main reason for my rating of just 3-stars. I come here to browse the DVDs and maybe catch some movies that I just don't feel like paying for even on Redbox, to pickup books that I've heard about, and to read magazines and periodicals from time to time. read more

As a library it's a great place . Two stars for staff allowing some irresponsible patrons to have long walking cell phone conversations inside the library as though it's their home or bus stop. Staff needs to remind patrons about being civic using the library. read more

This is our local library. I love how libraries have changed over the years. I check out a HUGE amount of books. I have two boys who also love to read. So the library is my friend. i love that I can renew books online and make lists of books I want. Plus I can request books online and then have them waiting for me at the library later. I can always find a book here. Several times the librarians have helped me find a book and explain things I didn't understand. The children's area is great. My sons love the play tables and puppets. Plus just a nice seating area to read. Plus an iPad to play on. That was a nice, new treat to find! They do have reading time, I just haven't gone. There is always some reading event going on. They have movie time often during the year. Also, they have sometimes a magician, author, etc come by. It's nice. They do have e check out. You can pay any fines there also. My sons like to help check out there. There are stools for them to stand on. My older son just got his first library card and everyone could not have been sweeter or interactive with him. I loved that. The one drawback would be the amount of parking on the library side. They have a police department next door has the other half of the parking lot. You can park there but I hate to take away spots from people who are there for that. Oh! In the back of the library is a pond and walking trail around it. I have had a couple nice and quiet walks before the library opened. read more

Wonderful, quaint, and child friendly library. The entire staff is sweet and friendly. Smaller library with a great children's section. The story time sessions are awesome!! An elaborate castle complete with fairies and princesses at the back of the kids' section marks the entrance to story time. Librarians are enthusiastic and excited to read and sing to the kids. Intimate setting that's less intimidating to smaller children. Will definitely be bringing my little girl back! read more

I like to come here on occasion since it is the closest library to mi casa, but unfortunately it's probably the lamest one in Plano. It's definitely got the least selection. I feel like it's always crowded as well. It shares a parking lot with the Plano PD so it's always pretty busy. The children's area is pretty cute and my daughter really enjoys it. She always finds what she needs here so I can't complain. read more

I have seen several reviews complaining about noise which I find mistifying since I have visited at different times in the day on weekends and weekdays but have never found it louder than any other public library. Parking can be a bit of a pain but I have always got a spot though sometimes a few rows away from the building - no biggie since its a ridiculously short walk anyway. Maybe some folks need to use their legs more often for something other than stretching on the couch. As many have mentioned the children's section is awesome though we have never attended any of the reading events. The young adults and general sections are fine too though I will admit I rarely look for a specific book, preferring to randomly try new authors in different genres. Overall I love this library, especially since it's so close by. read more

Good selection of books and media. The conveyor belt library return system inside the library is fun for young ones and adds to the experience. Check-out system is equally up-to-date with something resembling a RFID system - a bump up from bar code scanning. There's also a convenient drop-off drive-thru at the back of the library. Media collection is excellent. On the weekends it is especially full of patrons, but chances are you will still find something to be enjoyed whether it's periodicals, CD, or DVDs. The children's section is also comprehensive - lots of educational DVDs for toddlers to occupy themselves with. read more

I remember when this place first opened, and I was pretty excited to go here. It was brand new and the nicest library I'd ever been to. On a busy day you'd walk in and there'd be like 10 people maximum inside. Late at night on weekdays there might be nobody inside except the staff. The only thing you'd ever hear was the constant humming of the air conditioning units. It was deathly quiet, and during the summers it was deathly cold too. It had the interesting kids section with the little door and also had some of those fancy computer terminals with the orange text to look up books from. Over time Plano has grown, but the library has more or less remained the same. It's still a nice library, but it's showing its age and is feeling somewhat overpopulated. It's common to be looking for seats or rubbing shoulders with other patrons. Unlike Haggard library which was built in a way that it was able to expand with a second floor, Davis Library might have designed itself into a corner due to the high ceilings. Screaming babies are pretty common, and kids dart left and right like rats in a warehouse. Back in my day librarians were grumpy old ladies who would give you a stern talking to if you were too loud. They might lift you up by the ear and drag you outside too. I miss those days, but maybe those days were just a product of my imagination. Most of the patrons here are parents with their kids or students, and it seems like the management has accepted this fact (and the increased noise level that accompanies it) and slowly tweaked the library to accommodate this. For one the magazine section seems to feature more lifestyle type publications than other libraries, which is fine I guess since they're just magazines. However, I question the quality of books being chosen for the library for the young adults. Now in the "Teens" (or Young Adults, can't remember) section there's a rather large section dedicated to manga, those Japanese picture books. There's two entire shelves full of them. I think material like that is more suitable for a comic book store or video game store as it is of little low literary merit. I remember back in my day that same section would be packing books like Redwall or Animorphs or Harry Potter or Sammy Keyes. Manga rarely even features complete sentences and is mostly just pictures. Manga is bad for kids, and will rot their brains. On some days, I like to come here, find a comfy chair and zone out. If I'm lucky, my eyes glaze over, all the people disappear, the noise fades, the smell of fresh paint and drywall fills the air and I'm taken back to those glorious days back in '98, the Golden Age of Davis Library. :') read more

I have been coming to Davis since I was a kid. I used to live in Plano and now that I live in McKinney I was pleased to find out that Plano libraries are free for neighboring cities (same goes for the McKinney and Richardson libraries). I also have a city of McKinney Library membership and Plano has much bigger variety of books and selections as well as more availability. I have been to the other plano libraries and I prefer Davis the most. It has a cozy communal feel to it, and usually isn't too crowded until afterschool breaks where tutoring happens at practically every table. It's still a very family oriented vibe to the building though. They have great programs and events for kids. I remember having fun during the "reading through the summer" (at least that's how I remember it being called) programs at the Davis Library, my mother would take us to during summer vacations we weren't travelling. It is a lot noisier than the other libraries and impossible to work in if you prefer quiet study. Unlike the other ones I've noticed there are more tutorials and group studies going on. I think most importantly Davis has only one floor whereas the other libraries such as haggard and schimelpfenig has two floors one for children and teens and a separate one for adults. This makes a big difference. I live under 3 minutes away from this library, but I still prefer to make the 14 minute commute to Haggard. read more

Disappointed on the show they held, as always full with people and I can not get in, although it said in the bulletin that the room is large enough to have people all in. I even talked to the manager about it and all he said that he cannot get me in or else he called the police. It is so ridiculous. read more

Some staff in this library are NOT friendly and NOT helpful and are defensive. I had two bad experiences with it and one of them made me and my son feel very badly! I would consider it he least friendly and helpful Library in all the Plano library system. I would only go there if I have to. read more

There is pretty good selection of updated books in the library, wouldn't say it's the best in plano but good enough. Friends warned me about a "grumpy man" working in the children books ' section is rude to kids, particularly to those without parent next to them. If you have kids going there, make sure you stay around with your kids in the childrens section. Most staff there are friendly and helpful. The library can take question via website as well, pretty helpful. read more
