Well, it's 2019 now. I phoned this same tow company today, June 1st, for the same service as before…read more(see my glowing 2016 review). My car is the same vehicle, parked in the same space and in the same residential parking garage from where they helped me successfully three years ago. Now however, GNG flatly refuses me service. The guy who answered the phone said that he "damaged his truck last time," which he absolutely did not. Also, he said that "you're on the top floor aren't you?" trying vainly to remember the job, which I am not. I'm on a lower level, one story down from street level. I would think that in three years, GNG only would have gotten three years better and more efficient than they already were. Instead, however, it appears that in that short span of time, they've gotten worse at what it is they claim they do with such expertise. Negative and condescending on the phone, the guy sounds like he hates what he does for a living--or perhaps he was just having a bad day. I phoned them with the same result over a month ago, thus why I felt it was probably time to alert consumers. I suppose there's just that much towing in Chicago, that one can cavalierly decline business and revenue on any given Saturday.

I've had multiple situations with towing, jumpstarts, busted tires, etc. because apparently my car is a POS (bless her engine). But, none of my experiences are stand out--except for this one, thanks to Manny. Manny communicated consistently about his ETA/ timeline for completing other calls before me. So, I wasn't sitting around waiting outside, and he wasn't sitting around waiting for me either. Once he was able to give an accurate ETA, he showed up exactly when he said he would--literally to the minute. He was also extremely knowledgeable about best practices when having to get your car towed. He warned me about all the towing scams that take place around Chicago and how to avoid them. I had no idea there were so many ways for tow companies to milk money. If you take a look at the reviews for other tow companies, it becomes increasingly apparent how common these scams are. The fact that he was so transparent about red flags for other towing companies makes it clear that GNG does none of that. Everything was streamlined with GNG--you pay with a card and your information is all in the system, so you know they don't do any of the shady money-pocketing scams. The price was great too. After my phone company paid their share, I paid $28 out of pocket, which shows that the initial price must have been very reasonable, because in the past my OOPs have been 2X-3X that. If I have any future car issues (which I definitely will... I mentioned my car is a POS, right?), I'm coming back to GNG. And though I'm sure everyone here is awesome, I'll ask for Manny.

I had a van towed all the way to the Southside from near the United Center. That seems excessive. The woman on the phone was nice enough and reminded "open" for me to get the van that night. The guy who gave me back the van was actually super nice and made me feel at ease, especially since I was having a bit of a breakdown with all this stress. The only thing I didn't like is that they wanted me to Venmo or Apple Pay them (no credit cards). I think I know why, but this came off really shady in the moment and took longer to get the car out because of it. Again, this is a towing company so it's not the place for happy people. However, I suppose the whole ordeal could have been way worse and they had a sliver of decent customer service. Probably my weirdest review here!

I called about 15 tow companies listed on google and either they didn't answer (yet listed 24/7), the price/rate was $200 or more plus tax and mileage, or the places that did decide to answer their trucks weren't available or working. Family Towing responded and helped me right away. I originally spoke with Richard, who helped get me set up. Very kind and efficient. A voice that makes you feel calm and relieved. I then got my car towed by Jasen, also very friendly and helped me with a ride home next to the tow. It was snowing like crazy and during the coldest time of year. I then received a call from Jo, shared a few laughs and processed a quick payment with her. Overall the staff seemed like a tight knit. I will be referring this company and only this company to my customers, friends and family. Im an insurance agent with Allstate and not having roadside assistance was a disservice to myself. However, for the sake of not affecting my home and auto rates I chose to leave off the membership. I now know this will be my go-to if I ever find myself in a bad situation.
