I'm a bit mixed between this place because it's a towing company, but I guess I could have been treated worse. There was a confusion with a parking pass with Spothero. I had a van towed all the way to the Southside from near the United Center. That seems excessive. The woman on the phone was nice enough and reminded "open" for me to get the van that night. The guy who gave me back the van was actually super nice and made me feel at ease, especially since I was having a bit of a breakdown with all this stress. The only thing I didn't like is that they wanted me to Venmo or Apple Pay them (no credit cards). I think I know why, but this came off really shady in the moment and took longer to get the car out because of it. Again, this is a towing company so it's not the place for happy people. However, I suppose the whole ordeal could have been way worse and they had a sliver of decent customer service. Probably my weirdest review here! read more

After being ghosted by 2 other tow companies and waiting hours past when they were supposed to arrive, I called XL. They were responsive and clear with when I could expect them and kind knowing it had been a frustrating morning. Of course almost right after I called one of the original companies just showed up and took my car. When I called back to let XL know they were understanding. I know how frustrating it can be to lose business for no fault of one's own so just wanted to post up here that should I need towing in the future I'd come to XL. read more

This afternoon, my battery died. A jump wouldn't hold the charge. AAA was being difficult. I was recommended XL Towing by Emo over at Armitage Auto (another place that I highly recommend). Noah got my SUV out of the garage, through the alley and over to Armitage Auto quickly so that everything could be fixed by the end of the work day. Noah was personable, kind and respectful. We had a great chat on the way to Armitage Auto. Another thing that stood out to me was that he took my SUV over to the port at the Auto Shop so that the employees didn't have to manually get it there. Fantastic maneuvering on Noah's part. I want to thank Erin from XL towing for making this process so easy!!! After getting into a car accident and insurance company stating my car is a total loss, I had my car from the mechanic shop back to the insurance lot. It was reasonable priced to have the car be towed from downtown Chicago to Elgin. Erin told me how the process was going to go, and told me I didn't even need to be there. I can just Venmo or zelle and the driver will be on their way the date and time I choose. Omg. How perfect. The driver came on time on the date of my preference, and Erin even called me to let me know that my car was picked up and on its way!!! She even texted me a picture to show that it arrived to the destination! Also, I asked if the driver could pick up my floor mats and I could go pick them up but Erin said she can take it and bring it to the office that's closer to me so that I don't even have to drive as far!!!! Wow. Class A service. !!! But XL towing- I give you 2 thumbs up for the amazing service from Erin. She legit went out of her way and I can't thank her enough. Sometimes Life can throw us lemons. Just by rushing and not paying attention has caused me to write this review. I had to make a quick stop at the beauty supply located inside the Kedzie mall. With so much on the brain I wasn't paying attention that I just pulled up into an empty parking space and parked my car. I jumped out of my vechile without noticing or better yet NOT paying attention. I got out of my car and headed inside the store. I wasn't even in the store long before I came out and noticed that my car was gone. Code Red Car Missing. I began to search for my car in panic. Before it dawn on me. Hold Up Wait A Minute Girl. It clicked in my confused mind that I had parked my car in a handicap space. Shame on me for not being alert of my surrounding or where I'm parking which has caused my car to be towed and $172.00 to get it back. With all the drama that I had caused myself. Wish I could leave 10 stars. This service is old school, where customers come first business. Exactly what you hope for in a locally owned business VS big box. But first - Call XL directly. Yelp has changed and I made the mistake of initiating a "request." I thought it was with XL directly. It seems like Yelp contacts a few businesses on your behalf. I'm not gonna waste my time explaining, but it sucks. Let's go back to XL Towing & Storage... I've had a bad week with my 25 year old car. It would not start and XL was upfront on when they could get a truck to my location to take it to my auto shop. They also gave me excellent advise re: check my credit cards to see if they offer towing reimbursement as a benefit. Nada but I appreciated the guidance. I was parked on a narrow but busy street and the driver was EXCELLENT at getting my car out and on to the bed of the tow truck. There were some "kerfuffles" because of traffic and then my Apple Wallet wouldn't work. He assured me he would take care of everything and he did. I picked up my car today from the auto shop, and stopped on my way home for groceries. When finished and bags in the trunk, I was unable to get out of out of Park so was stuck. After an hour googling causes and fixes on transmissions, and trying some, I realized I was going to have to have the car towed back to the auto shop tomorrow morning. I called XL and received friendly and helpful guidance on when they could arrive tomorrow. However, I was actually texting with the administrative person regarding getting a receipt from my prior tow. The lack of receipt was my fault. I then called a different line for requesting a tow, and the gentleman confirmed the location and the time and then he asked me what was going on with the car. I gave him a summary which included that I had tried a fix via the switch lock release but was unsuccessful. I didn't have a screwdriver in the car, but I used a key. He suggested I use a larger key and that did the trick and I was able to drive it home. Fingers crossed, I'll be able to drive the car back to the shop tomorrow morning that wonderful man save me quite a bit of money. I am so totally impressed with XL towing that I'm writing this before. I finally get some sleep in. THANK YOU. read more

Each time I called XL and their price was fair, they worked with me on getting the car from my home to the mechanic (while I was at work). I appreciated the communication during the entire process. Eddie saved me! I was stuck in the middle of the street and he came to tow my car in 6 minutes. While other places told me an hour. Eddie was very kind and friendly. He made sure I felt comfortable and safe. One small thing that I thought was really nice, was that he suggested me and my friend put her car in front of his tow truck so no one would hit her car while we were waiting. Also, when he dropped off my car he took a picture. Which made me feel at ease. Overall, my interaction with him was great. He was very friendly and professional. My granddaughter called me with a desperate request. She needed immediate help because her SUV had stalled on a busy street in downtown Chicago in the middle of rush hour! I was 400 miles away from the location. I had used XL Towing once before when her vehicle would not start inside her downtown parking garage. I did not hesitate to call XL Towing again for help and told them the situation and location of my granddaughter's vehicle. They immediately redirected a tow truck to her location and within a very short time, the tow truck appeared and towed the vehicle to the desired dealership. My long-distance experience with XL Towing has been outstanding. This woman-owned company is an exceptional example of a great customer experience delivered with understanding and compassion. Gonna preface by saying NO ONE calls a towing service for their customer service. That said, when my battery died downtown last week, the folks at XL were super friendly, offered some free advice on how to get our compact charger to work, and when that failed came down promptly to assist. The operator whose name I forgot (sadly) was impeccably professional and kind, which means a lot when you're stressed with a dead car and two kids in the middle of the night. He also reminded me I could likely get the cost reimbursed by insurance (something I forgot). When later I tried to submit the claim and found the receipt too faint, I called back and was quickly given a contact who could send the receipt to my insurance company. All in all, if you need a jump or other services, these guys are the real deal! read more

I got a flat tire and was stuck. It was dead flat and there was no way I could drive it to the mechanic which was 1.1mi away. My roadside service through my cellphone provider called and got me a tow through Langs. Never. Go. Through. Langs. There's a reason they have a 1 star rating. So I call the cellphone company back to tell them Langs canceled my request and didn't tell me (not anyone actually) and she was able to get me someone through XL. The woman who works at XL called to confirm that Jason would be out in 25min, which given the 2.5hrs I sat there, was a God send. She went on to say he was a sweet, southern man who'll charm you. She was absolutely right. Jason was kind, helpful, and very professional. He gave me a lift to the shop which started with him opening the door for me. I was directed to this service by my insurance provider when my car stopped on me after a tire and break job. I experienced the tow driver to be rude. He did not listen and failed to follow instructions, making difficult an already ominous circumstance. I'm not sure if he spoke English well but he removed my tow patch and did not replace it nor ensured it was installed as he found it. So there appears to be a hole in my grill. I'll post that pic soon. I'm pissed because I have a nice vehicle and have to go through the trouble of finding this tow patch to cover my grill. The lady that answered the phone was nice and friendly and told me someone would be there within a hour. The tow driver called me within 5 minutes and told me he would be there within 45 minutes and he was. His name was Nick. He called me and let me know when he was 15 minutes away. He was friendly, cool. I had car towed from 1300 West Jackson to 1710 West Chicago and the tow was $95. I gave him an extra $5 for being cool. I strongly recommend XL. Contracted with this towing company to remove illegally parked vehicles from my property. Once called, took them 2 1/2 hours to arrive at the point the offenders had arrived. Instead of just driving away after being told that they couldn't tow the car with the owner there, they took down their sign that I paid $50 for (and put up myself) and unlawfully ended the contract. On my way from the south side to the north side to have lunch with my sister, on the hottest day of the year, my car died. Completely. I am 82 and don't have the strength or stamina to spend the day waiting for a tow truck, so I called the company who said they would be there "in minutes". Lie. The dispatcher said it would be 45-60 minutes. An hour-and-a-quarter later I called them. The dispatcher said the truck "had a flat tire". Right. When I explained my situation to him, he said that wasn't his problem. Cancelled the call. Called XL. EXCELLENT service. They said they'd be there in 30 minutes and they were. Called me 10 minutes later to later me know they were on the way. Driver called me a few minutes later. Offered to let me sit in the truck with the AC. From the dispatcher who took my call "which I forgot her name" to the driver Danny that came out the service was excellent. Super fast response time and they got me back on the road in a hurry. I'm a tow truck driver from Milwaukee so I know how it feels to go help a stranded motorist but I never get to be the stranded motorist looking for help. The absolutely worst towing company in the city. I've lived in the same destination for 2.5 years and have parked the same car in my parking spot for 2.5 years. At 6:30 am , a money hungry tow driver, towed my vehicle. I call to ask why would they tow it and the lady on the phone was very condescending and irrational. I recommend a customer service and ethic course for her. You are in the business of servicing people and i am an irritated person who had their truck towed, i believe that causes for a attitude. They need to have better contracts with Mac properties, regardless if a hang tag is hanging or not, mac properties has us with assigned spaces. So maybe it would be better to get the log book, just Incase a person just so happens to forget a hanging tag And regardless if i was wrong or not, understand that you are in the business of servicing people and you show no traits of no integrity. read more

They responded very quickly to a call by my state farm agent. I had a flat tire in Hyde park and state farm roadside assistance didn't have an eta or person assigned after waiting for over an hour. XL towing arrived within 30 minutes after receiving the phone call. They brought an actual tow truck. The tow truck was necessary because I drive a pickup truck for work. The driver was friendly, professional and very efficient. He figured out the crazy system Toyota has for accessing and lowering the spare tire. Our Acura suffered a seizure and was completely dead in our garage. My wife spent all day with Geico EMERGENCY (?) Roadside assistance who dispatched completely incompetent tow companies who either did not show, showed up and disappeared or did not have a wheel lift and dollie truck that could get our car out of our townhouse garage (really?). Finally, the EMERGENCY roadside assistance said they'd have to come back the next day. At 5pm in the evening after a day of tearing our hair out, we yelped for the best tow company in the area and found XL Towing. The dispatcher told us Eddie would be there in 45 minutes which was exactly on the mark. Eddie had the car out of the garage I swear in 30 seconds. He let our kids who were far more excited about the tow truck than we were "help" load the car and we were at the mechanics by 6:30.
