Look for the bare necessities The simple bare necessities…read moreForget about your worries and your strife I mean the bare necessities That's why a bear can rest at ease With just the bare necessities of life I couldn't resist. Who doesn't love a good sing-along? First off, do not mistake this place with the Bear Necessities in RPCC/RPU that is often also called "Bear Nasties": two totally different places. Bear Necessities has almost everything that you need. When you're stranded in the desolate Ithaca, you must rely on places like these and be resourceful. They have similar merchandise to The Cornell Store but at more reasonable prices. I actually find that their Cornell apparel is more stylish than the ones offered at The Cornell Store. Although it is a pretty small place, it is more convenient (if you live in Collegetown, it is right next to Collegetown Bagels) and also has longer hours than going to The Cornell Store. It is often run by a father and his young son and an additional employee, but they're nice and helpful. Whether you're looking to strut your Cornell pride or get the ever popular "Ithaca is Gorges" (and its variations like "Ithaca is Gangsta" or "Hotelies are Gorges" etc.) in every color of the rainbow, this is your answer. They have a number of Cornell branded souvenirs and office supplies. Although it is a small establishment, they have a wide selection. They also buy back books at the end of the semester and offer cash in case Kraftees or The Cornell Store do not give you good prices. You're already giving an arm, leg, and your firstborn child to pay for your Cornell tuition. Use your ivy league education, and save some money at Bear Necessities. It is a more affordable option to get your Cornell attire, and no one will be able to tell that you didn't pay a fortune to get that Cornell hoodie.

Cheaply made but expensive clothing that feels like it's already 5 years old when you buy it new…read more You could get better quality clothing in a roadside flea shop in Africa. They refused to accept a return within the time allowed by claiming that I had washed the clothing. I didn't expect much better than this store, whose only purpose is to price gouge Collegetown residents, but this is ridiculous.

This is 2023 and Narrative Space is now almost exclusively a barber shop (they don't sell boots and…read moreshirts anymore). I looked online for a hair-cutting place that did both men and women (I am a woman). I didn't want a fancy-looking salon. Narrative has a lovely, old-fashioned look and feel. Their web site said their prices were $40, $45, or $50.00. MUCH too expensive, but I realized I was paying for ambience. My barber was Michael Clark. (One got whoever was free when you arrived.) I showed him 2 sets of drawings of the cut I wanted (front and profiles, the difference between the 2 sets being where I wanted the main curve to be: a little higher or a little lower. To begin with the outcome: The drawings clearly showed that the hair should be even with my chin. It ended up, in fact, 2 inches too short...... just below my ears. The cutting experience was very weird. On 4 occasions, he grabbed the hair at the very top of my head and repeatedly pulled it up and down, as if he were washing something on a scrub board. I don't know what on earth that was about. The way he was separating strands and cutting was quite baffling to me. There seemed to be no organization to it. Unfortunately, I was unaware of how short it was getting. I was focusing on it covering my ears. At the end, it didn't even fall nicely and I had to do some repairs when I went home. Unfortunately it was too short to do all the repairs it needed. He had paid no attention to my drawings or instructions. I knew what the price was before I sat down in the chair. This is embarrassing. I paid $70.00 for this cut.

I had done research on local salons, and Narrative Space was at the top of my list. I really liked…read morethe fact that Chris Burnett had both clipper and scissor expertise. My research paid off. Chris did a great job on my hair - short and tight on the sides and textured on top. Great haircut and great shop - cool original barber chairs, warm, industrial Instagram worthy design and a fab shop pup to boot.
