They grew to a height of over 40 feet and were starting to decay. I should have dealt with this earlier. I called several tree services and three came, gave me a bid only to walk off the job because the trees were rotting and more than half had hollow trunks. Tony from Acampo showed up, gave me a very competitive bid, showed up to do the work on time and then walked off the job due to trees being too dangerous. But unlike the other companies, he offered me the only other option; to hire a crane, do traffic control (because the only place the crane could work from would be on the busy road next to our house). Of course it was a lot more expensive but what choice did I have? So I accepted and after taking care of the permit for traffic control, reserving the crane and getting the crew together, Tony stated work on time, 30 days later. I was there when the crew showed up; I told my wife that these guys were obviously confident, professional and they all knew their jobs and acted like a well-oiled machine. Everything went according to plan. They started at 6:30 am and soon the crane was lifting sections of trees that were as big as a bus and weighed over a ton carefully over my other trees and fence to the road surface where some of the crew cut it into sections that were fed into the chipper. 4 hours later the clean up was underway. It was a dangerous project. Tony complied quickly when I asked that me and my property be named as an additional insureds on the Acampo Insurance policy and when I asked for confirmation that the crane operator was insured and that all of the crew were covered by worker's compensation insurance. When it was over, I breathed a sigh of relief. The job was handled professionally, no one was hurt and my property was not damaged. Tony had warned me that due the deterioration of the trees, several things could go wrong but his crew was on its toes the whole time and everything was handled well. I have already asked Tony to give me a bid to reduce several other trees on the lot before they reach the same level of deterioration. From the beginning he treated me fairly and I am confident that he will do so again. We got quotes from a few other companies and ended up getting all the trees removed for around $20,000 (still a ton of money). I'm well aware of the reality of 'surge pricing' but this is just inexcusable, and it makes me question the ethics of the company. When asked to wear a mask was told flat out no. Which I get you are outside. But as the owner of the home I have a right to want to have mask on while doing a consultation. I wouldn't expect the mask on while they are working. And with the new delta variant the guidelines have changed for outside activities and masks required even outside. The person who answered the phone also got hostile and aggressive when speaking about the Mask request. I understand everyone is entitled to how they run their business. But what is unprofessional and unwarranted is the attitude in which that opinion is provided. We don't have to agree. But you can be respectful in the way you provide your information. So based on the lack of respect and the unprofessionalism and flippant tones I wouldn't recommend this company at all. I also want to point out. My issue isn't their Mask policy while I think they should wear them when doing a consult and knocking on someone's door; my issue is how they presented themselves both in person and on the phone. They are busy and so the turnaround time for a quote took a bit longer than I expected but nothing a couple of reminder texts and patience couldn't fix. The quote was professionally done and itemized by tree and quantity. They are licensed and bonded. I verified myself. You just never know, accidents happen. The crew was punctual and by 730am they started. By 1230pm the job was done (including clean up). Carlos texted me progress photos throughout the day which I appreciated greatly. As they trimmed the trees, he let me know another tree was dying bc it was hidden at the time of when we did the quote. Understandable since we met in the evening so it was starting to get dark and towards the end we used the flashlight on our phones to see. He gave me a couple options on how to proceed with the dying tree. He also noticed that my gutters were full of leaves and clogging my drain which he cleaned. I appreciated that very much. Communication is key and Carlos's communication was as I would expect from a professional - Excellent. For payment, I really liked that he said I could go check out the work first to ensure I was happy with the work before payment. I went out to the property two days later.
