Went to visit family at WSU and they took us here for dinner one night. It was a great meal! Save room for dessert, but more about that later. Started with the baked brie appetizer, which was lovely. I ordered the pork chop, which was massive, cooked perfectly (medium as it's ok to have a little pink in porkchops now) and accompaniments were flavorful. Both ordered pastas and it looked so tempting and delicious. Service is friendly. We couldnt decide on dessert so ordered the ice cream cake and apple cake/pie dessert and split. The ice cream cake is one of the best I've had. Layer of mint chocolate chip and chocolate chip, surrounded by a chocolate cookie crumble and cookie sprinkles on top. SO, SO, SO Good. The apple dessert was equally delicious and gave off Xmas / Holiday vibes. They do have espresso, though it seemed like it's not used much as the person had to check if we could order decaf cappuccinos. Those were alright and in the future, I may go without coffee or a decaf black instead. No tipping, which is the first time I've been a restaurant with this policy. I have so much I could say but I'm going to keep it short and sweet. I have lived here for 20 years and this is the best restaurant we have ever had on the Palouse. I call it The Bear bc it's truly that spectacular imo. It makes me sad people don't experience it or give it the love it deserves bc of other mid places tend to get the spotlight. I'm from Olympia/Seattle WA area, so I know my food. Lodgepole is grossly underrated. The Gnocchi, bacon, ice cream from Ferdinands, and the rigatoni are the best foods I've ever had. The oysters are from where I grew up, so they always make me happy and are incredibly fresh. I will never stop raving. read more

This is a great spot to really give thanks to your customers. Food is fresh so expect a little bit of a wait. Worth it. All steak dishes were popular among my big group. We made reservations for Friday at 6 pm online. There's an option for inside seating or outdoor patio seating. We chose outside. Unfortunately it was raining at the time, but there's a cover to block the rain so it wasn't bad. I ordered a seasonal drink, which had lemon and Prosecco which was delicious. We also got a Mango sour beer which was amazing and perfectly sour. For appetizers we decided to try raw Oysters, since they had single options and we never tried it. It came with vinegar and lemon. Was it my favorite dish? Not really, but it was very interesting to try. We also got the Hama Hama clams which are delicious and come with a broth and bread which could be a dish in itself. For the main courses, I got the Smoked Trout Risotto. This was delicious and melted in my mouth. It is a more pricy dish but worth it. We also got the Pan Fried chicken. It was outstanding and had delicious vegetables and mashed potatoes. I'm not sure what the sauce was but it made the dish come together. I was amazed at how good the dishes were. Finally we ended up getting desserts. They are always different so this time we got the Pavlova and the Nutella mousse. The pavlova was delicious with the fresh berries and lemon curd on top. super refreshing! The Nutella Mousse was perfect for a chocolate dessert. Our waitress was super kind and attentive and made our experience great. I am excited to come here again to try something new. Went there sometime back for a family celebration. The atmosphere is excellent, a good wine list, the food was marginal, my brother ordered a dish featuring duck. They apparently just passed the duck carcus over the dish, very little duck. Its portrays its self as a high end restaurant, The servers we dressed in jeans, our served wore a plaid flannel shirts untucked. When your spending high end dollars, you should at very least expect professionalism. read more

Server just read off the menus and wasn't personable, seemed to be slacked (makes sense since gratuity was already included.) The food was super disappointing and lacked flavor. Portions are big but just was not enjoyable. Personally, wouldn't come back again especially since nothing really stood out to me. The interior design of the restaurant is nice but that's about it. First off, shout out to Michael for his friendly and professional help on the phone the fat-of, at the host desk, for checking my coat, for checking on us as we dined and being so helpful with our order. Waitress was also so friendly and knowledgeable. The pickled deviled eggs are a must-do. The mayonnaise was made in-house and it was oh-so smooth. The mushroom toast was a difficult order since we're binging The Last of Us rn, but it was very delicious and oh-so worth it. The gnocchi was so well balanced and delicious. I had pasta last night which was heavy so I was pleased with the veggies mixed in. What a pleasing mix of textures and flavors in this dish! My son took one bite of the Dutch, said it was delicious and had it packed up to take home, he wasn't hungry enough but said it was very very good. The signature Chicken dish was different, almost like a mole base. I would have liked some salt and pepper on it but it was my husband's order and he was good with it. The desserts sounded fresh and interesting but we unfortunately we ran out of time. We look forward to coming back and trying the tasting menu! Kudos to Lodgepole. Was visiting Moscow, ID for work and came across this highly rated restaurant on Yelp. It seemed like the best restaurant in the area so I was really excited to try it! While we weren't able to find a reservation on the day of, we decided to walk in and try to sit at the bar. The manager was great and was able to seat us without a reservation. (We got very lucky as it was still pretty early and they had just opened) We ordered the corn fritters, the clams, chicken, and the panna cotta for dessert. We ordered the deviled eggs which are always delicious. We were sadly disappointed. The 4 deviled eggs were overcooked and there was very little sauce. I ordered the pork chop and my husband and son ordered the special, the ribeye. My pork chop was dry and not very hot. I had about a tablespoon of mashed potatoes and a lot of kale. I asked for the menu to check what comes with the dish. I told our server that there was very little mashed potatoes and that the pork chop waa dry and over cooked. She got a bit defensive and offered to comp my meal and have the chef come out and speak to me. A gentleman came to our table and said he was the GM and chef. He offered to comp my meal. I said that that wasn't necessary. We haven't been there for about a year or so and were really looking forward to having a nice dinner. To pay over $40 for an entree that was underwhelming is unacceptable. My husband's steak was also lukewarm. Maybe our entrees sat for a bit in tje kitchen before ouir server brought our meala to the table. There seems to be a high turnover since we didn't recognize any of the staff. Upon our arrival, we were greeted warmly by staff. A beverage was fetched while waiting for the previous party to depart and the table to be bussed. I barely had a sip before we were beckoned to sit. Water arrives. Shortly after, our server, Ronnie (sp), appears to talk about some delicious specials. We order an appetizer and the rest of our meal. Everything is pretty on point here. We were seated quickly on a Friday night, thank you to front of house for finding us a spot! Our server found us quickly, took our drink order (beer and wine, no hard liquor) and then checked in at a nice pace to see how things were going, take our dinner order, check how things were going. We split a 16 ounce ribeye special with a $3 plate charge, no big deal, it was worth it. We added bread and butter, and a house salad. The salad was fresh, lightly dressed, just enough. The steak is automatically cooked to medium rare, per chef's preference. It arrived very nicely seasoned, nicely plated with a swoosh of garlic mashed and grilled veggies with a bit of balsamic reduction. My portion had a section of sinew running through it that was a bit of a challenge with the cutlery, my only real issue with the meal. Dessert was a mix for me. We had the ice cream cake with salted fudge. The Maldon's salt on the fudge sauce was very good. The ice cream cake was okay but neither the cappuccino nor the cookies and cream stood out. Total bill was under $120, including the tip which is included in the price of the meal. This is an idea that I am a huge fan of, as long as the service stands up- and it did (hey wrestling coach, we're talking about you!) obviously staff is well trained from front to back. read more

If you're looking for an evening out with some spectacular food, drinks, and service, you need to make your reservation for Lodgepole! My husband and I discovered this restaurant when we brought our daughter over to attend her first year at U of I in 2017, and we were blown away! We've been back to have our "date night" each time for move in, parent weekends, and move out weekend until our daughter graduated and moved back to Western Washington almost 4 years ago. Fast forward to this week: Since I am in town with colleagues who have heard my husband and I rave about our experiences here, I had to share this gem with 5 of them at 4, and a couple of others had 7 pm reservations as well--and it didn't disappoint! A few of us started our evening with the Season Premier drink and the Finn River Black Current Cider (both were delicious!). Then the group shared the corn fritters, and I had the market salad. The group absolutely devoured the fritters and the salad was fresh and crisp and the perfect combination of healthy ingredients to start my dinner. We also enjoyed the meat and cheese board--sooo good! 3 of the group had the pan roasted chicken, one tried the rigatoni, and then I shared the chef's cut rib steak! Oh. My. Gosh! Then, as if we needed it, we had to try the ice cream cake, the vanilla cheesecake bar, and the panna cotta! There are so many different flavor profiles that are represented in their desserts, and each is crafted to perfection! Atmosphere was pretty and quaint. Great wine selection. Staff was very friendly. Food: mediocre for the price. I got the wagyu carne asada and I must say, the meat was cooked beautifully, but that was the toughest wagyu I've ever had. Came with broccolini (super charred) and potato wedges. I don't know if hummus pairs with this dish. Husband got the duck risotto and he had maybe 4 little cubes of duck and risotto was pretty watery and bland. Had good depth but lacked acidity. It's always a pleasure dining here at Lodgepole. I was a frequent visitor when living in Moscow, and now living an hour and a half away, we went back just for this restaurant. The dining experience and food is always creative and fresh, with very attentive service and an attention to detail that is hard to find at other places. For recommendations, the deviled eggs with aioli are simple but always are my favorite to have while there. The Gnocchi is also one of the best that I have had. Tips are integrated into the price, and for the high quality experience, prices are modest. Whenever I am asked about Moscow, I always highly recommend this restaurant when visiting. We celebrated our U of I grads in their beautiful space and had an exceptional experience from the moment we walked in until the moment we left, Brice who was our host was incredibly attentive, communicative and went above and beyond any request we had. He took forever to come back and take our dinner order. He was polishing glassware with his back to us and I repeatedly tried to wave him over but could never get his attention. He forgot a drink order the second time around and seriously struggled when it came time to split the check. I'm going to say that our experience could be a teachable moment. We expected a high level of service and it just wasn't quite there. The food was delish with one small exception of the mashed potatoes were lukewarm for one of our orders. They also have fried garbanzos and olives (which I normally hate) as appetizers. My partner has celiac and also had no issues ordering from Lodgepole. The waiter was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about which entrees could be made gluten free.
