Unfortunately I can't tell you about the food because I was never served any. 2 of us walked in and were directed to have a seat wherever we wanted by a server. We sat for 24 minutes before someone came to our table. He handed us beer menus and said they were short staffed so bear with him and walked away. No big deal, we can be patient. 2 other tables walked in - 4 top and 6 top - and they were approached by our server (after almost 10 minutes) who started getting and making their drink orders before he even asked us what we wanted to drink or grabbing us water. The bartender was being obnoxious about people ordering milk shakes and that's why she was so behind and couldn't serve us, a high top in the bar area. I also noticed a different server walking around looking like he was doing side work to leave...not helping his coworkers whatsoever. At this point it had been over 30 minutes seated without even a water. We decided to leave, and the bartender hollered behind us, with little emotion, "sorry about that...have a great day." Maybe take milkshakes off the menu and have a few more servers on even if it's not peak restaurant hours. Definitely left a bad taste in my mouth, not sure if I'll go back. read more

This place has all the beer you can dream of! However the bartender's are so cool they don't even have to bathe, the smell of humanity from their armpits and the accompanying I recently vomited while smoking a joint breath really makes you want to speak with them as little as possible, which by the way is just fine with them because you have no idea how "cool" these guys are. Just order a bud or a Miller lite to feel the true color hospitality ( that's not stink eye they just have to be cautious not to get their blonde dreads caught in the cooler door). The food is bold! Until I tried this place I had never had sashimi chicken wings! Fried crispy on the outside with a cold pink raw chicken center since I advised the suburban Rastafarian bartender I was unaware of this style sushi he gladly yanked them away and slam dunked them in the overflowing trashcan. I asked if it was ok to have the house made pretzel which I only waited 28min for however I smiled and took a bite to my surprise the bartender failed to mention that sand was added to the pretzel batter...what a bold statement by the chef. I was just not cool enough to eat here so I asked for the check which still included the chicken sushi wings . Smiled paid my tab plus 20 %. And thought this w as definitely a once in a lifetime experience for me I guarantee it. read more

Spent the weekend in Mobile with the wife and kids for my birthday. I love German beer and food so we checked out Loda Bier Garten. First off, this is a five star review not a five star restaurant. It's a bar with food. If you expect it to be quiet during a football game, that's your fault not theirs. We chose a night with no college football on, and sat in the back on a traditional German Bier Garten table with bench seats. The clientele around 7pm were on their best behavior and I felt very comfortable having my children with me. I ordered a Weihenstephaner and fully expected an overpriced 12oz bottle but to my pleasant surprise I got a 16oz draft and when the check came, my beers were only $6 each. Not too shabby for imported draft beer poured ice cold. We had a pretzel, I had schnitzel, my wife had a Reuben, and the kids split a chicken and waffles sandwich. Found the staff in this German bar incredibly knowledgeable and well informed. They can confidently suggest selections based on what you usually like, and how adventurous your palette is. The staff also genuinely care. We had left the place and had walked several blocks by the time a waitress caught up with us to return a pair of reading glasses! Loda is one of my (and my coworkers) Go-To places for after shift tasty nibbles and drinks. My usual choice is the turkey burger with an added sunny side up egg. Seriously I like that burger more than any of the other burger options I have tried. The combo of a juicy turkey patty with mushrooms and goat cheese always makes me happy. Their onion rings are super crunchy and fresh, and with a side of garlic aioli, oh man it hits the spot. We have had great service for the most part, I have to say I really miss our best girl, Renee'. Sweet, levelheaded, and an excellent server, I hope she will come back because she is truly missed. Way overrated! Stayed for one drink and left! It was 6:00 on Monday and the bar wasn't even open upstairs! There was nowhere to sit downstairs! Don't be fooled! This place seems like it would be good and has all the potential to be one of the best bars in town. They have an extensive beer list but they are almost always out of approximately half of them. Have your top 5 picked out before you order. I would still consider giving a higher rating if the service was not consistently among the worst in town. This review is based on multiple visits, not one. During the most recent visit I ended up walking out after waiting at a table for 20 minutes as servers walked past doing who knows what. Fortunately there are much better options nearby. Out of beer and bad service were the main problems at the previous busieness in this location. I suspect they have not made any changes in management. This place stinks... I mean it smells bad... like sour bar towels. I came in because they had a German hefeweizen that I really like and it was happy hour, $1 off all drinks. When I got the beer it tasted bad. I brew beer and it tasted like it was spoiled with bacteria. The owner was extremely accommodating and said the lines had gotten warm so he poured a couple of pitchers out of the tap and served me another beer... still the same problem. Given the smell of the place and the problem with the beer I decided not to eat there and I went to pay for my beer. It was $6.05. So it's normally $7.05 if its not happy hour? Largest selection of beers I've seen without being at a beer festival. Wide range of cider and meads as well. We tried all sorts. Waiter was knowledgable and happy to make suggestions. Food wise: Boys went for ginormous burgers, stacked with Mac & cheese and battered mushrooms. All throughly enjoyed. Onions rings where huge and on point. I went for a lighter - but still mahoosive seared tuna salad which was delicious. Fun place to go and they even have complimentary mouthwash in the bathrooms. read more

My lady's hamburger was GREAT. She had the Bienville burger with onion rings! Me being a nacho lover, l went went those. Needless to say, they were the worst nachos I've EVER had in my entire life. I've had better nachos at movie theaters. The beer cheese tasted like melted NOTHING! The pork chili has NO seasoning to give it flavor. The best part of the nachos was the freaking sour cream to say the least. We also ordered desert which was the bread pudding. It was also not good. I will just stick with grandma's homemade bread pudding since NO ONE can get it right. Otherwise the atmosphere was great with good music. Started off rocky... We decided to get a flight so we could taste several of the 80+ beers but, several of the beers we picked from their extensive menu were not available. This got more than a little aggravating when the food we ordered came before our beer flight did. The owner and an excellent server (Lizzie) helped to turn our experience around. They brought a few complimentary samples to let us try and really were apologetic about the situation. Lizzie brought us samples and checked on us periodically and even sat down to chat with us and to discuss different beers a few times. Usually like this place. Tonight ordered a beer off the menu and it said it was a particular flavor sour but then when it was brought out it was a completely different flavor. Not a big deal to me but I told server I didn't like it and didn't want it and she said well you already opened it. Well first of all it came opened when it hit the table. She said since it's been opened they can't take it off the check. Weird because most places if you don't like a particular drink they'll get you another one or not make you pay for it. Secondly the food sucked tonight. Ordered buffalo chicken dip and the dip was good but the chips were so stale I could hardly eat them. Told the waitress they were stale and her response was "I'm sorry" didn't even try to offer to make it better. Usually like this spot and get decent food and decent service with it being downtown Mobile I'm already not expecting much because it's a beer place but it all around wasn't a good experience. Not blaming anyone from my experience tonight but just wish those two simple problems had been resolved better and more professionally. read more

First trip to LoDa Bier Garten for dinner was no disappointment. Hubby had the turkey burger with goat cheese and loved every bite. I had chicken fingers that were very good and the serving was large. Beer list is huge but I'm not too adventurous and stuck to what I knew but hubby loved trying 2 that he didn't know. This is an awesome beer garden, probably one of the best I've been too. I'm disappointed no one told me about this place. Luckily I stumbled upon it after one of the Mardi Gras Parades. Small menu so only had the pretzel, which was really good. I don't recommend this place for dinner but definitely for snacks and drinks. The beer list was amazing and the guys behind the bar were very helpful in choosing and offering free tastings which in my book is always a plus. Due to circumstances, I actually ended up eating here twice in less than 24 hours. The first time was early afternoon on a Saturday. Ordered a new appetizer that was supposed to be a fried Brie with some soft pretzel bombs served with a sweet blueberry sauce. Sitting at the bar, the bartender took the order. Someone else brought it out, dropped it off and quickly moved on. Sitting in front of me was a huge pretzel and a patty of crusted fried Brie. The bartender walked by and said, what is that? He then took the plate to the kitchen area and asked what was up. Apparently they were out of the pretzel bombs and the blueberry sauce so instead of asking me they just gave me what they had. The bartender apologized and said he did not know they were out of half the ingredients or he would not have placed the order. Not his fault. The cooks should have notified him and let me decide if I wanted to change my order. The bartender let someone who I assumed was his supervisor know what happened but the supervisor never offered to replace the dish or to not charge me for it. Normally I would not have eaten there again but at 1:30 am, there weren't any options in walking distance so we went there again. We did get what we ordered that time which was Korean BBQ tots and bread pudding. The flavor on both was good but both dishes were dry and lacking any moisture or sauce. The thing that made me give it at least a 3 star review was the atmosphere that night. They gladly accepted our order even though closing in 30 minutes. They were busy but everyone seemed to be in a great mood and the music was popping. read more

Worst experience on dolphin st... They were out of every IPA & octoberfest I wanted EARLY on a Friday night. And what they did have was over price even local beers were marked up. I ordered chicken fingers and there is a standard(even a code) for fried chicken in Alabama, and they did not live up to it. Blandest chicken I've ever had but the fries were good you get one star for the fries. Worst part our waiter vanished we waited for over 1/2hour for our check. The food was "okay" nothing to rave about. The service was EXTREMELY SLOW. When my friend's meal came out before the rest of us, her onion rings could fit in the palm of a hand && were cold. The cook messed up my plate && had to redo it, which added another 15 minutes ontop of our already 35 minute wait. Everything about this place is okay but not great. It's Mardi Gras season, so I have different expectations of businesses. However, this place does need something to help set it a part. They have a wonderful beer menu, although I tried to order three different beers that I was told were out. One is excusable, but 3/4 is a little ridiculous. Our service was good despite the wait; our waitress kept coming by to update us and get us more drinks. A friend and I came here because I insisted on trying the "Sugar Rush Burger". The atmosphere is definitely casual and my first thought the inside looked a bit dingy. The restaurant was packed due to an Alabama football game so we ended up just sitting at the bar. The draft beer menu is VERY extensive and I was very pleased with their selection on tap. I ordered several pineapple ciders and a Stone Ruination. My only complaint with the overall ambiance was that everyone was screaming due to the game and the only time my friend and I could hear each other was when a commercial came on. I realize this is to be expected , I just wish we woulda came in sooner! Service was ok, the bartenders were all very busy and it usually didn't take too long to get another beer. I ended up ordering the Sugar Rush burger with a side of Mac & cheese (currently bulking, don't judge). The food came out pretty quickly and the burger looked absolutely beautiful. They use two whole cake donuts from a local bakery so the burger was stacked and that's putting it mildly. I literally had to use a fork to eat it. I am a donut fiend, and I took a bite out of the donut before even trying the burger. I was bitterly disappointed to find the donut was rather firm and not soft and cakey like I had expected. I moved on to the Mac & cheese which was pretty good, no complaints there. The burger itself was very crumbly which made trying to eat it with the donut a huge pain. Even though it wasn't as good as I was anticipating, I ate the entire thing. Overall I think the donuts left something to be desired and using softer, fresher donuts would improve the burger tremendously. If I was to come back it would be because of their awesome beer selection. read more
