Dude. I cannot even begin to explain how much I love the Lockbusters - especially Jay. I was having "psycho roommate" problems and was worried that my old roommate would attempt to break in at any moment after he moved out. I called them immediately following his departure, and they arrived at 10am the next morning. Jay was more than pleasant - he was actually cool to talk to. Like, I'd want to grab a drink with him. He fixed the lock and even helped fixed the latch on our door because it wasn't closing correctly. We joked around, had a good old time, and then he went on his way. For a very reasonable price. Recently moved and needed a new lock. Turned to yelp for some suggestions and ran across Lockbusters. Luckily, living social was doing a deal and score!! My location was a bit wee out of the usual range but he was okay with it. He ran a bit behind schedule and called to see if I was okay with the delay/time change. It was fine since it was on a Sunday. I have had many locks changed and lockbusters is the best. They are professional and very nice. Pricing is reasonable and installation is quick. I needed an older top lock rekeyed and a backdoor deadbolt installed in my new apartment. WOW! I don't know what else to say. I called Jay on Wednesday and he gave me a great breakdown of what I was looking for, which is was a deadbolt installation. He was very informative and helpful. Jay was great. He was very friendly and courteous, while being professional and FAST! On the day of my appointment Jay had gotten "stuck" on an earlier job which would make him late for our appointment. Jay was was very mindful and reached out to me about an hour prior to our appointment to let me know he was running late and we then rescheduled for later that evening. I truly appreciated this as it allowed me to do other things than just sit around and wait all day for him. When Jay did arrive later that evening he again apologized for the delay and got straight to work. He drilled a new hole in our door and installed a new deadbolt for me in what I would consider a blink of an eye. He was in and out in just about 25 minutes. Folks, believe me when I say there IS a difference between locksmiths. We've had horrific and expensive experiences in the past until we stumbled upon Lockbusters. I researched them online and was very impressed with what I read. They are like no other. Jay and his team are uniquely ethical, responsive and friendly. We've used Lockbusters in the past in our old co-op and were beyond satisfied with the quality of lock, workmanship and cost. Now that we've moved to a new place, we're finding our lock is temperamental, sporadically difficult to open and lock. I sent Jay photos of what I thought was a completely broken door lock. He responded that from what he can see, it's already a great lock and that all he'd have to do is change the face plate and lock knobs and will keep the cost to a minimum- below $200, which is outstanding in my book. He could've easily said the whole lock has to be replaced, but no, he is genuinely honest and ethical and that is what is important, why we'll continue to use him, and why I will recommend Jay and Lockbusters to ALL my friends and family. read more

He honored the quote he'd given based on the pictures I sent. He was totally professional and competent. He explained what he was doing and was finished within 20 minutes. I got locked out of my apartment in the middle of the night with no phone or anything on me. I had a local business call a locksmith for me - unfortunately, that locksmith was not lockbusters. The guy insisted he had to drill the lock and charged me an arm and a leg to do so. He then quoted me $145 to replace the now-broken cylinder, which I declined. I searched on yelp for someone else to replace the cylinder, and that's how I found Lockbusters! I'm so glad I did. I called them the next day and they had someone out to my place within an hour. Jay is the best! Not only was he honest about the state of my previous lock and door, he ran to Home Depot after realizing that the door needed more work and bought a whole new lock. The whole thing took about 3 hours because he had to drill new holes in the door and he had to run and put more money in the meter for his car! We needed a deadbolt installed from scratch on a hollow metal door and metal frame and after looking around with no luck to have someone install the thing, Jay was all "no problem" and quoted a very fair price. It's almost like I wasn't locked out! Almost. He's got a really simple business model that works well: don't take advantage of people who are in a jam, just unlock their doors. And it works wonders. He has a flat rate for getting you into your lockout, and then whatever he has to replace goes on top of it. I literally have nothing bad to say about these guys. My roommate and I just moved into a new place in Bushwick and wanted to get an extra dead bolt added to our door. I filled out the form on the Lockbusters website and within 20 minutes Jay had emailed me and called me. He was really chill about working around my crazy schedule and was able to come to our place on Saturday, after I had been in touch on Thursday. When he came to our apartment he gave us the whole rundown of all of our options and was very honest and straight forward with us about what he thought we needed--he wasn't trying to sell us something we didn't need. He was at our place for about 45 minutes but most of that was because my roommate and I kept talking to him. Nobody's perfect, but the key is to acknowledge mistakes and do something to make it right. There was a mix-up in the day of my appointment for a new lock, so Jay came that evening instead of the morning and gave me 50% off. He also told me the lock mechanism itself was perfectly solid and that rather than an extra lock, I only needed a new cylinder for security. That goes to show how honest he is because it meant it was cheaper for me and less money in his pockets. To add to all that, Jay is a super nice guy and was even great with my barky dog. In fact, when I asked if he accepted tips, he told me he donates them to Animal Haven. Awesome! You've really got to be good to mix-up the appointment and yet still get 5 stars. I love giving money to businesses and people who i want to see succeed. I work about an hour outside of the city and my wife was locked out of our apartment. I figured calling a locksmith for a reasonable sum might be more efficient and time saving than me coming all the way. I called a few locksmith's people had recommended to me, and I got the same annoying answer... or non-answer I should say. I asked all of them how much it would approximately cost. Most said something to the effect that it was impossible to give an exact quote until they saw what they would be dealing with. I then snickered and said, "yeah I get it... how about just an approximately so I can tell my wife how much money she needs to have on hand..." Again, they refused. So I decided to look up "locksmith" on yelp (probably the same way some of you have just done) and I see this guy with over 100 ratings with a 5 star average. There aren't many businesses I can think of that can say that. Everyone's description was spot on. When I asked him for a quote, he gives me his flat quote of $70 and thats it. No more no less. He said he was finishing up a job and that he would meet my wife in 40 minutes. Well its now 30 minutes from that time and my wife is officially now in the apartment. I almost went with some scumbag service that had an ad saying "$15 NY Area Locksmith," but I smelled and rat and when I got them on the phone they said, "well that's for the visit, then we tell you how much it's going to take to open your door when we see the lock." When the front door lock to my business totally broke, my business partner immediately said, "We're not going to use those people who leave a million business cards in our door all the time." Those people are super annoying and don't deserve our business! So we went to Yelp and found Lockbusters with all of their good reviews, submitted our inquiry through the website and got a call shortly after. We scheduled an appointment for the next day, and Jay came by to check things out. He was very honest and very helpful, and while we expected it would be hundreds of dollars (to revamp our entire lock and door system) it was only $175. We were thrilled!
