So you may think this is funny but I got locked out of my apartment on my own balcony. There's a metal bar on my sliding door that is supposed to keep people for breaking into my apartment. Well, that bar ended up keeping me from breaking into my OWN apartment when it accidentally unsecured itself and got knocked over. So basically my own sliding door gave me a prison sentence onto my own balcony. Well, guess what else. My deadbolt that was only accessible from the inside of my apartment was also locked. So management couldn't open the door. Did I mention it was super hot outside that day and I was locked out in my pajamas with nothing but an empty cup of yogurt and a little stool to sit on? Oh and also that my apartment is NOT on the first floor. Anyways, management said they'd have to break the door down and charge me for any damages!? Uhhh ya, doesn't seem like the best idea. So, I panicked and started calling some locksmiths. EVERYWHERE they were booked. "I'm sorry ma'am all of our technicians are fully booked today, best of luck." Yikes.... I was truly up sh*ts creek. Well anyways, then I found Jay's profile and hallelujah. He literally drilled one perfect hole into the door. Popped open the deadbolt and then was able to come lift the metal bar on the sliding door and set me free. He's a very friendly guy and I appreciated his services. He asked for photos of the locks we needed rekeyed to make sure he could quote us accurately. Let's not even talk about locksmithing: Jay is an absolutely 5-star human. When I got locked out of a room in a new apartment I was staying in at 11:30PM at night, I gave Jay a call as he was the closest locksmith in the area. He asked me to send a picture over to him, and he was immediately honest with me: this specific lock was easily opened with a cheap-o skeleton key from Home Depot, and the alternative was to cut the knob out of the door. For the hour following (mind you, in the middle of the night!!), he answered all my questions about where to find the nearest 24h hardware store, what specific key type I would be looking for, and-- when all failed-- walked me through how to best get the door open. And guess what: It worked!! For a locksmith to talk a normal, uncoordinated human like me through how to unlock a door from pictures alone, that alone is a huge testament to Jay's skill and talent as a locksmith. Scott, from Lockbusters, came over to my parents' house and was tasked with trying to open up a wall safe that just would not open, regardless of how many times we tried the combination. To make matters worse, my dad decided to take it upon himself to try to open it using a power drill and ended up taking off the knob and the handle (yay!) Scott surveyed the damage and started to dive in. Along the way, he explained what he was doing and why, so we were not left in the dark. About an hour later, he was able to open the safe and all is right in the world again. Seeing how the safe had 1) no knob, and 2) no handle, I was expecting him to either refuse the job, or take out a stick of dynamite to blast it open.
