They are great! I actually did not use them for a job, but I had a question about a job and they texted me back (iphone iMessage which is always helpful for so many) really easily. He chatted with me about my options and was very nice, writing in perfect English. He even sent me some links and answered all my questions in detail. We actually need more of a carpenter for our job, so we're not using the locksmiths, but I would have hired him just because of the great communication, which is so hard to find. read more

Jay is such a professional, considerate, and honest--Good character. Excellent pricing and no gouging. He is not selfish but giving and wants us as customers to be happy. Choose this company as he will take care. Super respectful man. read more

Hey made appointment to stop by the same day and did a Yoeman's job of fixing that lock!

We had a screw work its way loose, and catch on something, preventing us from opening our front door. Jay was extremely responsive and accommodating, and managed to slide us into the schedule on just a couple hours notice. He had the job done quickly, for a very fair price. Highly recommend, and I'll definitely call Lockbusters again in the future. read more

I highly recommend Jay and Lockbusters. I moved into a new apartment a few months ago and wanted a deadbolt installed so I called around for a few quotes, and of course checked out Yelp and found Lockbusters who are highly rated. Now I know why! Jay was easy to communicate with and I was able to make an appointment for the following morning (my deadbolt install was not urgent). He showed up on time, was efficient and friendly, and even saved me some money offering another lock that was just as good was what I initially thought I needed. All in all, a smooth, efficient transaction and they're competitively priced. I would definitely recommend Lockbusters to friends and family. read more

It was Perfect repair, Great technician. Quick response and polite and helpful service. read more

Jay showed up within 3 hours of my call. He was installing an electronic lock and the door was very complicated. He did an excellent job, didn't damage the door at all, and didn't charge me for the extra time. Highly, highly recommended! His pricing was better than anyone as well. This is the guy you want, and he's so nice and polite too! read more

Jay is the best! We needed our home re-keyed + a couple of locks updated, and Jay took time to discuss all of the options with great care and detail. He is incredibly polite, responsive, professional - easy to work with - and just an added bonus he is a very nice person who is pleasant! This goes a long way when you're in a new city, new home and checking off a long list of items to get done. Jay made the process very easy, which I really appreciated. I recommend him to anyone who needs a locksmith! read more

Thanks, Jay!!! Lost a bag with my keys and license in it so was concerned about someone finding both. I contacted Lockbusters through the form on their website and heard back quickly. Sent a photo on my locks and easily had a quote and appointment set. But, then I had a knock on the door at 1am with the person who found my things returning them. He said that he didn't have the keys but had gotten in the front building door (claimed it was unlocked). Small chance he was a very odd do-gooder, large chance he was casing out the place. Freaked out, I reached back out to Jay and he was able to come that day (a Sunday) instead of the next for the appointment. Replacing the cylinders within our two old locks he used his own screws and a spare pieces to make our old locks more secure. Don't hesitate to hire Jay and his team, I feel confident that my locks are now secure! read more

Jay is absolutely amazing. I lost my spare set of keys so asked him to replace the locks. His prices are already reasonable to begin with but then he suggested just replacing the cylinders instead of the whole lock and it worked out even cheaper, and to top it off, he donates a portion of his fee (or sometimes all of it) to an animal rescue. I cannot recommend him enough, he is the best locksmith in New York. read more

I just purchased a new apartment and wanted my "own" front door locks. After reviewing a few yelp posts this one stood out. Everyone said friendly, knowledgeable, and professional and my experience was exactly the same. This dude is great. He knew everything about my current bottom and top locks-- the quality, the manufacturer, the condition it was in. He gave me an honest consultation and said I didn't need new locks just tubular replacements and a high grade pick-proof lock. Exactly what I wanted. He was professional and efficient and genuine. If I could give more stars I would. Great experience and I will refer him to my friends and family. - Alex read more

First off I would like to say that as a non-profit we were getting ridiculous quotes to change a couple locks. Thankfully Jay reached out and was able to take on the task. Jay truly went above and beyond for us. Even having to come back a third time because he was dedicated to helping us. Overall I cannot recommend Jay's work enough. Lockbusters exceeded our expectations and we will defiantly be referring him to those around us. read more

I just moved into my new condo in Brooklyn and needed to change my locks. I had actually meant to only query businesses in Brooklyn, but I think Yelp caused me to inadvertantly message other locksmiths, and I'm glad they did, because Jay texted right away asking for photos, and once I sent the photos he called me and walked me through my options. He was very upfront about the costs, and even ended up finding me a cheaper lock than he had quoted. He showed up at my apartment when he said he would, which was just a few hours later, and got everything done within an hour. Friendly, knowledgeable, helpful. Really, a pleasure to work with. No complaints at all. Would use him again in a second, and would refer him highly. read more

I found Lockbusters via Yelp and I figured the multiple five-star reviews had to be accurate (which was certainly the case). Both of our locks needed some work, and we were in contact with Jay several times while deciding on various options. Jay is super-friendly and he arrived very promptly on both occasions (he had to check out the problem initially). He's also very accommodating in terms of a timeframe for appointments. (Update on 5/11/18): Another positive experience, as we had a problem with one of our locks. Jay was stuck at a big job uptown, so he sent his colleague - John - who was pleasant and efficient. Meanwhile, it was nice talking to Jay on the phone; he was again quite friendly. read more

Alright, so I'm typically skeptical about businesses on Yelp that have stellar reviews. WHAT'S THE CATCH? Originally I sent in a request for a quote to another business on Yelp but then saw that most folks were one-shot reviewers. When I saw Lockbusters, I messaged Jay and within minutes he responded on Yelp. I needed someone to open up a lock on a vacated storage unit in my building and needed someone sooner than later and early (9am on a Friday morning). He asked for pictures to assess, and I skipped out on a Mets game after dinner to make sure I could get home and respond in an expedient manner.* Sent the picture, Jay AGAIN responded quickly. Provided a quote and scheduled the visit. 9AM on Friday, HI JAY! Within minutes, he did what he needed to do, and was so friendly. Gave him a tip, and he donates his tips to an animal shelter! For a small professional business like Lockbusters, I'm so glad Yelp was not only a reliable source for reviews, but also the actual medium through which we communicated to aid in getting the job done. *Skipping Citifield was actually unrelated to my need to be home to snap a picture of a lock. I was tired from a long day and full from dinner. #noregrets read more

Jay is a knowledgeable locksmith. He impressed me immediately when i called for service. I needed my front door lock repaired or replaced. He asked for pics of lock and informed me he didn't have those parts. Instead of trying to sell me something else, he offered to look for those parts. He came out and tried to repair the lock and when he couldn't he found a distributor for my lock. Jay acquired the needed parts through some difficulty and time getting the middleman to respond even after the part came in. He came back out and replaced the broken part making sure it worked well. It works smoothly and properly. Jay was always polite and so apologetic for the time it took. I am so grateful that i got to keep my beautiful lock. This young man operates in an old time style - respond to customer's calls and wishes, do it efficiently, do it as quickly as possible, and the customer is always right! His rates were reasonable and he took on a lot of the time costs himself feeling badly that it took a longer than would have. All i could say to him was thank you and i wish you performed more types of work! What a nice change from these people that don't return calls or showup. read more

Really a genuine person. You have to really trust a locksmith and I can tell you....you can trust this guy. Came in, got our door open in less than 10 minutes and he was out. Simple, fast, efficient. Will be using him forsure next time we stupidly lock ourselves out of a room. read more

Awesome job! Couldn't be more pleased! I messaged this guy in the afternoon on Yelp- and he responded quickly- to the point and price was better than others. We scheduled an appointment but I asked if he could see me sooner as in that evening- he contacted me right away when there was a cancellation. The job was done swiftly and he was friendly, paid over venmo (but many other payments accepted), sent me a receipt via email on the spot- the whole thing took no time at all! Highly recommend! read more

Lockbusters is fantastic - I worked with Jay to upgrade my bottom and top locks, and I greatly appreciated his assessment of my needs and clear recommendations for better equipment balancing the goal of improved security and reliability as well as reasonable prices. Quick and friendly service visit - he was a pleasure to talk to, plus, he supports pet shelters and has two adopted kitties! Great all around business and person. Highly recommend. read more

All the praise you see in these Yelp comments are true. When I was locked out of my office, I used Yelp to ask many companies for quotes. Everyone sent dashed-off replies with impossibly low prices... but Jay wrote back like a human being, asked me to take a picture of my lock, and then gave an honest and detailed assessment of the situation and the costs. I went with him, and was happy I did. read more

After trying to change out the lock to my home myself, I figured I'd just leave it to the professionals and a professional Jay indeed was. When I called to get some information, Jay was quite helpful in providing his expert opinion and letting me know what types of services he could provide and what option would be best suited for my home without any pressure of up selling. After setting up a schedule, Jay arrived the following couple of days prompt and early and proceeded to change out 1 deadbolt and 2 door handles within a quick time frame. There is a reason why this guy and company has a perfect rating and over 300+ positive reviews on Yelp. Simply put, he is a professional at what is does, who is also very courteous and down to earth. I would absolutely call Jay again if I ever need a locksmith and would about definitely recommend him to everyone. read more

Absolutely amazing! Jay is a really great guy who has a really chill demeanor which is totally welcome when yr ostensibly in the middle of a shitty situation. Jay is the BEST. He has now done two jobs for me in the last year and is personable, helpful, and responsible. In addition to his good prices and friendly attitude, he donates most (or possibly actually all...) of his profits to help animal shelters around New York. His charitable efforts with animals during these particularly hard times are so needed. I can't recommend him enough! read more

Dean installed locks and even helped fix a faulty door lock mechanism. Couldn't be happier with the work and service. They were punctual, professional, and friendly. And unlike the other locksmiths I called, I didn't feel like I was getting ripped off.I almost wish I needed a locksmith more often so I wouldn't just use their services once. Jay was great by phone and email. Some of the other locksmiths acted like I was wasting their time. 10/10 stars!!! My doors are locking and unlocking. It's a great day. read more

Quick response, didn't make me phone them to get an estimate (thanks Jay - I hate the phone). Set up an appointment very quickly. Scott came and did a complicated job -- installing the new nest+Yale lock and the nest hello doorbell where there used to be an old-school intercom. He was knowledgable about new smart-home/internet of things security, which I'm sure will become more and more common. Highly recommend. read more

OMG thank you Jay!! I had an attempted break-in yesterday to my apartment, and send out a Yelp request for locksmiths. He was the first one that answered, within an hour and I issued it at 1am. I'm so glad he did! He came first thing in the morning (as I was able to beat it to into a somewhat functional state), and fixed my lock and added a new deadbolt, for an extremely reasonable price, especially compared to what other smiths quoted me. He's also super nice, friendly and loves animals! If I could give more stars I would. read more

I was with my out-of-towner friends at an AirBnB pad when the cylinder on the door lock malfunctioned around 11:30 p.m. We were locked out of the place with no word from the landlord. Luckily, I remembered Jane K.'s 5-star review of Lockbusters that I'd bookmarked on Yelp. [Thanks, Jane!] One frantic phone call to Lockbusters and Jay arrived with superhero speed: within 20 minutes. Jay was able to open the lock immediately, take apart the pieces, and explain to us what the problem was. (Something about how the lock components weren't laying flat like a sandwich and it's like when the beef patty falls out of a hamburger. I don't really understand what that means but that's why people don't call me in the middle of the night to bust open their locks.) Not only did Jay fix the lock, he's this cool, young guy who was not creepy and really cute--so cute that none of us minded one bit that a stranger had crashed our late-night house party and was making loud mechanical noises in the entranceway. One friend kept marveling at his muscular arms and even my lesbian friend was still swooning over him into the next day. I highly recommend Jay to solve your lock problems, or if you just want to get a sweet-looking hottie to your place late at night to do some drilling. read more

After the worst ever locksmith experience, I just had the best ever locksmith experience. If you live in NYC or the surrounding areas (Westchester included, obvs.) USE THIS COMPANY. Jay contacted me within minutes of asking for a quote. Within an hour I had an appointment that worked with my weird schedule. He replaced my lock insanely fast. We chatted about the scam I'd just been through and what my options are as well as all the non-profit groups he's connected with over the years. ALSO HE DONATES ALL HIS TIPS TO THE SUGAR MUTTS RESCUE. Jay has even offered to write a letter that I can send to my credit card company to help dispute the original locksmith charge. I feel like I can breathe again after dealing with a scammer for *a week* to get my lock fixed. The. Best. Seriously. read more

It was bound to happen. Four days into my brand new apartment and I get locked out when I'm letting the IKEA delivery guy into my building. Though I'm glad I chose to wear shoes, I had nothing besides (thankfully) my cell phone in tow so the first thing I did was call Jay from Lockbusters. We had met before and I'd heard great things but he truly is a miracle worker. Despite the short notice and his busy work schedule, he made time for me and showed up thirty minutes later at my door. It took him about 10 seconds to get into my apartment. Aside from my concern over how easy it was for him to break in, I was incredibly grateful. Service with a smile and efficient work. Now, let's just hope he doesn't change careers and go criminal -- that dude has skills when it comes to getting through locked doors! read more

The first time wirting a review because of how grateful I am right now. I came back from work and find myself locked out of my bedroom, which has those doorknobs with no keyholes but can be twist locked from inside. After a quick call and send over a picture, the person on the phone teaches me how to open it using a butter knife without asking me to book a service! I get soooooo excited after I opened the door under his help, time& money saved! Thanks again for the generous help offered! I will definitely come back if I have any future need for lock services, a truly reliable and professional Lock service! read more

Lockbusters - the type of door - Keys & Locksmiths Near Me

In my adult life, I've had to use the services of a locksmith a handful of times, and the experience is usually exactly what you'd expect. Some sleazy dude in a beat up Datsun pulls up outside your pad, doesn't say much of anything, scares you with how quick he just broke into your apartment, then charges you both arms and both legs. You then immediately peruse Craigslist for a new place to live because you're afraid said locksmith might return in the middle of the night to have his way with you. Needless to say, that's not all what you'll find when you dial up Lockbusters, stranded in the rain in the wee morning hours in NYC. You'll get someone friendly (Jay) who takes the time to make you feel comfortable, and you'll likely be inside your apartment in no time. Even if you have to wait for the crew to drive from Inwood to Chinatown, I promise it's worth it. read more

MOM APPROVED! What can I say, I read the reviews, I did the research. I was not going to let my daughter move into her first NYC apartment without both of us feeling secure. I also was not taking the business card some person left outside the building. Soooo, I read the review on yelp and emailed Jay at 5:49 am by 6:07 he responded and after a few emails we had time and date set up to meet. He is the real deal. The door at my daughters apartment was a disaster, yet he made it work. Take a photo of the current door knob and lock and front face of the door it helps him assess what he will encounter upon arrival... He saved us money because the guts of one of the locks was actually already installed by the landlord, only needed a new cylinder... know many locksmiths who would do that? I know one.. HIRE HIM MOM and DAD! He may not be the least expensive but he will be the best, and get the job done once, and be gone in less than an hour.. and you will sleep at night... and he does ask for a dust pan to clean up after himself.... does it get better than that... in NYC... um ... NO. He was soo good I tipped him and he said he donates the tips to the animal shelter he supports... The kitty and dog pics here are of his rescues... nuf said. read more

He was so nice and popped the door open in a jiffy for a flat rate of... wait for it... 49 bucks. that's kind of amazing. he even fixed my door so that I never automatically get locked out again. Worst sound to hear is that loud "THUD" when your apt door closes and you realize you left your keys inside....at 12:30 AM on a weeknight....with only 3% of battery left on your phone. Doing a frantic search for locksmiths before my phone died, my mind was put at ease when I saw the stellar reviews for Lockbusters. One call to Jay's service and he phoned me back promptly, I explained my situation (and that my phone battery might give out) and he gave me an estimate and said he'd be at my building within 30 minutes. Twenty-six minutes later I see Jay pull up in his SUV and greet me with tools in hand. He assessed the situation, selected the appropriate tool to see if he can unlock the door without drilling the lock and within 3 minutes....the door opened! The man has skills....and at 1AM, I'd pay anything to get back inside my apartment. Luckily with Jay, his services are reasonably priced but the value and professionalism you receive far outweigh the cost. Lesson learned....always check for your keys before leaving the apartment...and make sure you have Lockbusters on your speed dial...just in case! read more
