However, when passing it was always enroute to an event at the Capitol, or other times they weren't open. Really glad I finally made it. As mentioned, it's not a bakery though it once was. In fact a Swedish bakery called this 1876 building home for nearly sixty years. Once inside, you're able to learn about Austin's Swedish immigrants (as well as others) by viewing an exhibit from the Lundberg Maerki collection. There's so much interesting history, it's just fascinating. The art gallery houses ever-changing exhibits. These exhibits all have one thing in common, the artists are over 50 years old and are local to Austin. The gift shop is more like a collective of artisan/handmade goods. Here you can find one-of-a-kind items. Things like paintings, jewelry, postcards, handcrafted gifts, etc. The artists & craftspeople selling their wares are also local. A lot of items sold here are also created by folks over 50. They have an outdoor patio space with a large mural. This is a nice place to visit whether you're local or a tourist. I will definitely go back again, especially if looking for a unique and special gift for someone. Support the arts. Support local artists. Support senior artists.

In East Austin, you can find this complex full of art studios of various mediums sprawling over several buildings. They have a big parking lot but if you go during Open Canopy, we saw people waiting for spots. There aren't enough spaces for all the humans! However after parking, the area doesn't feel congested with human traffic so that's a good thing. Canopy has their very own coffee shop full of drinks & eats, so fear not if you come here hungry. Check the Sa-Ten listing for reviews on the eatery/beanery. Again I was lucky enough to be in town during Open Canopy which happens the first Saturday of every month from 1-4pm. I found there near opening and found it only got busier as the day went on. Not only were many of the Art Studios open, but also most of the shops, plus they had live music! I was not expecting a DJ, nor to see so many cute dogs roaming around, but was pleasantly surprised. There were so many talented artists with their pieces on display. I took a couple business cards and hope to buy a few things. I was happy to see so many forms of art for sale, as well, with some real creativity and fun on display. Not just paintings, but jewelry, decor pieces, 3d works, weaving, tons of different types of things. I saw many of the artists eagerly chatting about their work, while my introvert self shuffled through each studio. And that was okay, too, by the way. Artists were pleased to just say hi & bye, definitely no sales- stuff going on here. It was truly like walking thru art galleries. People watching was fun here, too. This event is called Open Canopy which happens on the first Sat of each month which is such a nice community event. Basically Canopy features a huge amount of artists in this artsy compound, countless studio offices in a handful of buildings (I believe there were 5 areas you could go to and some were occupied). Definitely peruse and even pick up some pieces if you fancy anything, there's something for everyone here. Pottery, paintings, sculptures, textiles, and much more artsy offerings. It feels like an elevated art fair you get to walk through.

It was really hot I recommend bringing and umbrella for shade and a fan. The Parking lot is small but people are coming and going so it was pretty easy to find a spot. If you can't get a parking spot in their lot you can park in the Zilker parking lot and they open the gate so you can walk in through the back entrance. The different displays and the views were really cool! This is a fun family friendly place. My favorite were the fairy displays :)

The customer service here is always kind and laid back. Always appreciate how helpful staff is too because we turned in a lost key and they went right into action and already had been alerted. The ground are beautiful and it's really peaceful. There are chairs and benches placed throughout the grounds if you choose to take a seat and ponder this is the perfect opportunity. The flowers and many plants are just enjoyable and beautiful. It reminds you that flowers can still bloom in the scorching Texas heat.

Our party of two spent a couple of hours in the shady outdoor seating area, where we and quite a few others enjoyed perfect temperatures and some interesting wines. We chose to share a sampling of 6 different wines, some locally produced by Westcave and others bottled elsewhere. We ordered a Salumi board (similar to a charcuterie plate). It included several cheeses, 2 meat varieties, pickled red onions, beets, a bit of cucumber, grapes, and dates. This was not really as described in the menu, nor was there an assortment of crackers. The few water crackers that were included on a separate plate were stale and soggy, and we should have sent them back. But there appeared to be only 2 people running the show that day, so we were mindful of the situation and more tolerant. The location of this winery is lovely. We saw cows, a calf, and a longhorn in addition to sheep. The building looks new and is nice inside, and those working there are friendly. The vineyards did not appear to be well tended. I wish I could rate this place higher, and I am hoping for improvements over time.

Highlights include petting the goats, touring the grounds, milking a goat, learning about the cheese-making process, and of course, tasting the wonderful fresh cheeses made on the premises. Pure Luck offers a blue cheese, "Hopelessly Blue" which is on the mild side, so do try it even if you are wary of that hearty flavor. Their feta is also really good and moist, and it doesn't crumble as soon as you cut into it. My favorite is the St. Maure, which is a creamy, dry French style cheese. The outside of the log is a firm crust, and the inside is a gooey mass of spreadable, funkiness. This place definitely gets props for producing some French-style spoiled milk.
