That alone will make this our go-to when driving through Auburn. They offer turkey and vegetarian patties as well as Gluten Free or wheat buns. Their standard bun is a beautiful brioche. Plus they have onion rings! Beer battered onion rings, no less! Even their ranch dressing is on point - no Hidden Valley from a bottle served here! First of all, food is wonderful! Service... always have had issues. Today was my last visit unfortunately. When I arrived with my family, there were two parties in front of us. I known the cadence is usually slow for taking orders. We had the chance to place the order and with the order, we had ordered 2 beers. She let me know she would be right with us at the bar they pour the beers. She had another group to take an order from behind us. I completely understood the wait. Once she finished the group, I had been waiting for 7 minutes while my family sat down. She then pulled the tips out of the jar and started counting them... I kindly asked if she was able to pour the beers. She replied "I'll be right with you". She continued to count the tips and split them up (I had just put $10 in there). After 3 more minutes and getting rather impatient with her lack of care that I was waiting for her to pour the beer (10 minutes waiting now) I asked again, this time directly asking if she can pour the beers so I can go sit down with my family. Again "I have to finish this, I'll be right with you" she replied. Two minute later she came around to pour the beers and was obviously upset with me. She went on a bit of a rant of why she had to count the tips to split up between the employees that were getting off because it's the law. Also told some other reasons that had nothing to do with her cashiering... why would she not take a couple minutes to pour two beers after I have been patiently waiting and then count the tips? I live here in town and given this place chance after chance. Today was my last. Bums me out. read more

My son introduced me to this fabulous burger place tonight. I have been looking for a place that had fresh hamburger and fresh ingredients to go with it and I found it tonight. Holy crap what a Fantastic burger! I ordered the California Burger. It was huge - big fresh very tasty patty, lots of bacon, avocado, tomato, lettuce, and a great house sauce. My son and his friends have tried about everything on the menu and they say is all really good. My son had the cardiac trail burger which I want to get on my next visit. We stopped here on our way to Tahoe. What a treat! Food is made to order and the service was awesome.

For a burger joint this place is good, and folks need to judge it, accordingly. Flavorful burgers, fast service and friendly enough. The price is the similar as if you went to Carl's Jr and got a meal, so I'm not entirely certain why one of the reviews I read said the price was high? Also some folks say the decor is plain, but I feel the environment is pleasant and the wall color is cheerful and fun. If you want a good and customizable burger (think bacon or mushrooms, chili, choice of cheese or avocado) Local Heroes by all means, comes through. Decent sized patty, fresh ingredients and served in a checkered wrapper. Add a side of fries, onion rings, or jalapeño poppers-maybe a fresh milkshake or soda float. What's not to love, people? Horrible customer service. Inadequate staff. And a mystery "manager" who never gets back to you. She's never there and I gave her a week to get back to me so that we could discuss things before I posted this yelp review. I guess customer service matters that much to her. It's unfortunate because the burgers are good but the staff acts like they don't care and like Brd R, Jake W, and Wendy O said earlier they are patronizing without knowing it; easily offended when they get an order wrong; and never apologize. eh, just so so...it's hard for me to really judge because I had a veggie burger not a real burger. My veggie paddy wasn't cooked well enough and tasted kind of frost bite-ey. My son gobbled up his burger though and said he liked it. I felt bad for the young kids working there who got balled out by a pissed off customer for their burnt food while we were there. From what I could tell the cook seemed very young and very unexperienced and overwhelmed. Poor guy. I liked the ambiance, cleanliness and prices are reasonable. Got it on a whole wheat bun, with cheddar cheese and avocado. It was really delicious, I ate every little bite. Vegetarian type patties can tend to be mushy or a weird consistency; this was absolutely perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection! This IS a tasty burger. We found this on Yelp while on the way from Incline Village to San Francisco and thought Auburn would be a good rest spot. Our first impression was of a very friendly woman who upon greeting us pointed out the specials. We skipped the specials and stuck to the menu. I had the, "California" and so should you. This was great! All the extra stuff (Avocado, tomato, was perfect as my picture shows. The aioli or "special sauce" was excellent! Damn son, this went so well with this burger. This sauce is what put the burger over the top for me and guaranteed that next time I pass through Auburn I will be back!
