*THE* Soccer Bar of Charleston! A great bar to watch the US National team play! Fair Warning though --Totally hipster vibe going on... Clearly since it follows a sport most Americans do not. Bartenders are really friendly and food is served by the restaurants next door (that bring it in). How hilarious is that? You can also bring in your own food too. I've seen folks bring in birthday cakes, and unlike other bars which make it out like a huge hassle--this place seems pretty chill about it. There is a back patio for smokers too. Not unlike the Recovery Room, but much nicer. One piece of advice: If it's a huge soccer match, get there early for a seat. read more

Pretty cool staff. Vickie was on point and friendly. When it there it was her and a customer watching Judge Judy. They made me feel welcome even if I was just trying to get out of the rain and traffic. I was going to eat some grub but then found out kitchen doesn't open until after 8 pm. So no food for me here. They apparently have a great relationship with Spero because Vickie brought me a menu and I ended up going there to get some take out Love the atmosphere even some regulars that came in were friendly enough. I wished I lived less than a DUI away so I could become a regular here. Apparently they are very packed during Soccer which was playing later tonight. I would have loved to stay. The 616 is just a cool bar... one of those places where you can't quite put your finger on it but still know it's unabashedly cool. Every time I've been in has always been above average and even came in one night they had this live band with an amazing horns section that had the whole bar on fire. Without a band (or soccer match) this place is pretty chill. Everyone is welcoming and you feel like a local right when you walk in the door. read more

Awesome space, hilarious bartenders, and good drink specials. How can you beat that?

If you love the Upper Deck but wish there was a) more space b) actual parking that doesn't involve nearly hitting a drunken college student while parallel parking into a spot blocks away from where you are going c) an awesome BBQ joint next door, then you have found the place to be. The location is right off the highway, making it easy for anyone living outside of the peninsula to get to, and it's a short bike ride for downtowners. As of now, they are only serving beer and wine, although that will definitely be changing sometime soon (I think it's too new of a place and they haven't gotten a liquor license YET). This hardly mattered to me, however, as I very soon discovered their red (and white) sangria, which was amazing. I am not much of a sangria kinda gal, but I think I will be when it comes to Local 616. Also, there is enough space for some DJs and local music and a pool table, not to mention the ambience is the kind of laid back, divey cool that is hard to find in Charleston these days. Obviously, I have come here to watch soccer but they also have more to offer! Giant jenga, karoke, etc. Dwayne is also an awesome bartender and all around great human being! My boyfriend and I ended up here this past Cinco de Mayo by chance. It was not on our list of places to go in Charleston and neither of us had ever heard it mentioned. However, we needed a place within walking distance of our previous stop because it was a much cooler night than expected, so we ended up here. Tucked away in a strip mall, the place was a little hard to find. Once we walked inside, though, we were pleasantly surprised. The place consists of a bar, a long community style table in the center, and some booths. The bartenders were all extremely friendly and they had local beers on tap with prices average to the area. We did not have any food, so I can't comment on that, but this is definitely an awesome place to hang out and drink. The vibe is definitely more local than tourist, so if you want to get away from the mainstream and see what else Charleston has to offer, I recommend making a stop here. read more

I made a yelp account just to post this absurd night: I used to really like this place as it is one of the few chill and laid back bars in Charleston, but after a terrible experience last night my opinion of this place did a complete 180. I went there with some friends to watch WrestleMania live since they were allowing someone to stream it on the bar's projector that they have for big events and karaoke. Things started off pretty well and drinks/fun were had. The WrestleMania stream was a little laggy but I can't blame a bar for not having top tier internet in downtown Charleston. It wasn't until 9pm that things turned sour. Around this time the bartenders put on the Walking Dead season finale (this was airing that same night on AMC) on the tv's behind the bar and turned up that audio to clash with the audio of WrestleMaina playing from the projector stage. This wasn't so bad since the Walking Dead had subtitles on and you don't need to hear everything the commentators are saying to enjoy WrestleMaina, but it was still annoying to have both sounds going on at the same time. Eventually though the head bartender in charge (HBIC) asked for WrestleMaina to be muted altogether so that Walking Dead could only be heard... well that kind of sucked. I don't know if the Walking Dead watching party was prescheduled like WrestleMaina and they just double booked the bar, or if the HBIC just wanted to watch Walking Dead with some of her friends and didn't care about what the people watching WrestleMaina thought, but either way it was unprofessional. After the HBIC made us mute WrestleMaina, some of our group decided to leave but a good amount of us stayed (like 10 or so) to just tough it out and watch WrestleMaina muted. I mean Walking Dead will end before WrestleMaina and then we could turn the WrestleMaina audio back up, right? wrong. First off, before Walking Dead had ended there were a couple of times something amazing would happen on WrestleMaina (https://gfycat.com/PettyWindyChipmunk) and we would pop off and cheer. This would lead us to being stared down by the people watching Walking Dead and the HBIC yelling at us to be quiet or she would turn off the projector. Reminder we are in a BAR after 10pm on a Sunday, and we are being told to be quiet so that other people (around 7 total) could watch a TV show in quiet. I don't know about everyone else, but if I came into a random bar (especially a bar that carries itself as sports bar) and saw a bunch of people sitting around QUIETLY watching a TV show I would turn around and leave because I am usually going to a bar for social interaction. Eventually though Walking Dead did finish and the people watching it dispersed (after some initial talking about the cliffhanger ending). This was great timing because the main event of WrestleMaina was about to start soon too! So we unmuted WrestleMaina expecting the bar tvs to be muted... nope. The Walking Dead after-show, Talking Dead, came on and to are surprise the HBIC did not mute it since people (like 2) were still watching it which led to us having to remute WrestleMaina. One of the people there to watch WrestleMaina got antsy and kept on telling the HBIC that no one was watching the Talking Dead. This made the HBIC get angry enough to pull a power move by muting WrestleMaina and Talking Dead and turning on music in the bar instead. This caused an outcry from most of us watching WrestleMaina about the absurdity of the situation and so unsurprisingly the HBIC told us to turn off WrestleMaina altogether and leave. So instead of letting a large group of people finish watching one more hour of WrestleMaina whilst buying drinks throughout that hour and beyond, the HBIC did something that was (to quote Triple H) "Bad For Business" and kicked us out. There were so many smaller things that happen that night as well that just made the whole experience even worse but I am not going into detail about those since I have already written a whole novel for this review. Also this was not the first time my friends and I have had bad experiences with this HBIC behind the bar, but this was definitely the straw that broke the camels back since it was just so outrageous from a customer service perspective! I am definitely not going back to 616, especially on a Sunday night when the Walking Dead is on... unless I want to be a silent TV watching zombie at a bar. 2 STARS: at least they have cheap beer. read more

I would give this bar a higher rating but the service and treatment I received from one of the bartenders here was horrendous. One of the bartenders was fabulous and treated us wonderfully. We asked for a birthday cake shot and was told by one African American woman that it was not possible. As soon as the other bartender came over she said "you deal with them" and he promptly made us the shots we asked for that she previously said was not possible. The female bartender was rude and I will not return because of her. This bar would be fun if the bartending staff was more like the gentleman we encountered and they got rid of the female. read more

When you step your first foot into this establishment, it is very obvious that it is a local neighborhood bar. A few of us went here on a Thursday night during happy hour for a meeting, because we wanted somewhere in which we could discuss topics and engage one another without loud music or interruptions. The inside is dark with some tables and a large bar area. They also have an outside patio with high top picnic tables, but it is not covered. It was however perfect for what we needed at the time. There were only a few patrons inside and one bartender, so service was a little slow. We ordered at the bar of course and they did have a nice selection of local draft beers to my surprise. The bartender was in no hurry and continued to talk to a local as we stood there and waited. It would have been nice if she had at least caught our eye to say she'd be with us in a minute, but nope. Anyway, I have heard that they are a big soccer supporter, so I might try them out again for a match. read more

The guy bartender was great but the girl who is working there is THE WORST person I have ever dealt with in my entire life. I work in customer service and how I was treated at this place was AWFUL. The fact that she came up and said to my face "are you fucking deaf?!" Is inexcusable. My experience at this bar was great in the beginning with the guy being the bartender but I will NEVER recommend this place to anyone because of the girl bartender.
