There's also a demonstration kitchen and a café, which adds even more to the experience. While their website is fantastic (and what we've relied on for years), the in‑person store is absolutely worth the trip. Whether you're an avid baker or looking for the perfect gift for someone who is, this is a destination worth driving for. It is the place to get the best custom-decorated birthday cakes and Thanksgiving pies (they made nearly 1000 pies last Thanksgiving - get your order in in advance). A carrot cake aficionado in our family who has tasted carrot cakes around the world ranks Lou's tied for number one. Prices aren't cheap, but rent in Hanover isn't cheap either, they take care of their employees, ingredients are of high-quality, and it is the kind of local business I like to support. For a hearty and healthy lunch, a bowl of their homemade chicken soup (available with or without noodles) hits the spot. For a delicious savory breakfast, Doc's omelette (corn beef hash and melted cheese is really good) as is the cowboy bowl. For a sweet breakfast (albeit more than I can handle), the glazed cruller French toast is a delicious menu staple. And their apple cider donuts, muffins and crullers are excellent. (The glazed apple cider donuts are my personal favorite). Real New Hampshire maple syrup is available for an upcharge and although I wish it were all they served, it is really the only way to go with their breakfasts. They provided the cupcakes for our wedding and subsequent anniversaries and celebrations. Every cupcake has been delicious, the staff is always friendly, and the store is always clean and neat.
