We made a special pilgrimage to King Arthur Baking Company's headquarters as part of our Vermont vacation, and as longtime customers, we were genuinely excited to finally visit in person. The store did not disappoint -- it's a baker's paradise in every sense. Every possible ingredient, tool, pan, piece of equipment, and baking mix you could imagine is here, beautifully displayed and easy to browse. The space is bright, immaculate, and extremely well organized, with helpful staff ready to answer questions or point you toward something new. There's also a demonstration kitchen and a café, which adds even more to the experience. While their website is fantastic (and what we've relied on for years), the in‑person store is absolutely worth the trip. Whether you're an avid baker or looking for the perfect gift for someone who is, this is a destination worth driving for. Beautiful shop and windows to peek at the baking area. The baking school looked nice, too! The breakfast sandwich on "milk bread" was on what seemed like a regular hamburger bun, though, and the sandwich seemed pre-made, with the fried egg completely well done. The cappuccino was delicious, though, with pretty latte art. Sat in the outdoor area with umbrellas and flowers; much of the "campus" had logo decor for photos and such. Unfortunately, a language exchange group took up much of the shaded seating, though only a couple cups of coffee in front of ~15 folks (please, buy something and support the business if you're going to take up that much space)?! As tourists, this was a must see place! We loved walking through the store, checking out the baking area and then getting food at the cafe. The lattes were pretty standard and the pastries were a bit disappointing. The flavor profile of the focaccia was odd - corn, tomato, and spicy mayo. Yummmmmmmy! Anytime we're in the area-even if we have to go out of the way a bit- we stop by the cafe. The lines might seem long but they go fast and the food is worth the wait. This time I enjoyed their pulled pork sandwich on a potato bun which was their special. It was one of the best pulled pork sandwiches I've ever had. I paired it with a bag of bbq chips, their creamy tomato soup, and a coke. My in laws got a salad, another pulled pork sandwich, and the turkey sandwich. Everyone was happy with their choices. I also brought a couple of sweet treats to go-the brownie and an almond cloud cookie (my favorite treat from them). Afterwards, take a peek at their store. A baker (or want to be baker)'s dream facility. There's a store where you can buy ALL of King Arthur's Baking products, as well as any tool or gadget needed for cooking. Even starter from the legendary batch of KA Sourdough. When you first park and walk in, there is ample outdoor seating. Through the doors is a lovely cafe where you can buy breakfast, lunch or a snack. This was our sole purpose to the trip to Vermont. We went for the Middle Eastern Flatbreads class and learned recipes for Lebanese Za'Atar, Armenian Tahini Rolls and Pita Bread. Luc and Paige were fantastic and kind and made the formulas (recipes) very approachable and easy to try at home. After we left, we looked up Luc's resume and didn't even realize what a bread celeb we had the honor of learning from. That said, we came home with more bread than i've been able to eat all week. Fortunately this popped up when looking for a place for a late lunch on our road trip We stopped just after 3. The cafe closes at 4. What they don't tell you, or remove from the menu board is they stop serving soup at 3 (doesn't seem logical) and if they are out of something. I had a ham sandwich- it was good. The bread is challenging when cold. Broccoli slaw- good flavor but dry! Cajun Shrimp sandwich- hubs really liked it. Croissant was one of my favorites. Chocolate chip cookie was bomb! As an enthusiastic home baker, a trip to King Arthur is like going to Mecca. It is really worth the trip. To maximize your effort to get here, first book a class. They offer an array of choices, with many being 3 hours long but for a true culinary holiday, they offer multi-day classes. I gifted my mother a class on making galettes for the two of us. Check their online calendar often as classes book quickly months in advance. The baking classroom was lovely and gave every participant plenty of room to bake. The instructor was efficient and no-nonsense, but friendly and encouraging. You'll bake and box up your creations to take with you. Enjoy lunch in their gorgeous post-and-beam cafe. If you are a snowbird transiting between the United States and Canada driving through Vermont, this is an absolute must stop! The baking mixes are very varied and unique gifts to bring to people, the items like tea towels, and aprons have super nice designs, and best of all, the coffee and prepared foods are very tasty! You have to make sure that you either order in advance or come early because they do start to sell out of things right around lunchtime. On this trip, I got a chocolate and pistachio cookie that was simply out of this world! I really wish they had a baking mix for it ha ha. I recently ordered a few à la carte items from King Arthur Baking's holiday menu and was delighted with the entire experience. I've tried several holiday menus around the region, and KAB is a clear standout. I ordered a baguette and vegetable quiche to round out my own meal, plus an apple pie and bûche de Noël for dessert. Pick-up was seamless. The café was bustling with happy customers carrying pastries and coffee, but the preorder station was just inside the door to the right. I gave my name, they confirmed the contents, and I was quickly on my way. The whole place has such a warm, upbeat vibe--bustling but never chaotic. The staff are fantastic: friendly, organized, and genuinely happy to help. Even on a busy holiday pick-up day, everything felt calm and well-run. The quiche came with clear heating instructions (which I really appreciate, as not everywhere provides them). It was fully cooked and only needed 20 minutes in the oven. The filling was light yet rich, and the delicate filo crust was such a lovely surprise. Not a single slice was left over! The apple pie was perfectly baked with a tall, flaky crust and well-balanced apple filling--lightly sweet, gently spiced, and sliced just right so each piece held together beautifully. This was also my first bûche de Noël, and now the bar is impossibly high. The dark chocolate sponge was tender and filled with real whipped cream and the perfect hint of brandied cherries--beautifully balanced rather than overpowering. The chocolate mousse frosting and thin ganache glaze were flawless, and the decoration (meringue mushrooms and sugared cranberries) made it truly special. I sincerely hope KAB continues their holiday menu every year, because I fully plan to cook less and order more from them. Everything was exceptional. read more

I was so excited when I learned you could visit King Arthur baking Company! We stopped in one afternoon during a VT exploration expedition, easily finding a parking spot in the very large lot. Walking up, there were many people outside enjoying lunch on tables on the patio. Upon entering, straight ahead was the lunch/cafeteria area, to the left is the store. We were hungry so we dove into the weird and slightly confusing layout. Its hard to comprehend how I could be confused but there are a LOT of people and they are milling around and it,s a bit wild. Anyway, we figured it out. But it was also chaotic to order, I just wanted a sandwich and chip and a beverage, and it was hard to know what all was IN the sandwich and where do I get the drink? Over there in the cooler way past the registers? Maybe people are milling about because the flow is wonky. Anyway, food ordered against all odds and it was good. Once we were finished, we went to the bake shop and this is a home cooks DREAM! What a fun shop. We loaded up our basket with so many fun mixes and tools. I decided I wanted the special bread of the day, a Black Pepper, Ginger, Plum Rye. There werent any out, so I asked someone and she went and got me a fresh one, just wrapped after cooling. When I'm in the area, I always try to work in a visit to King Arthur Baking Company to get some of their baked goods and shop in their store. Every time I go I have an outstanding experience (except maybe for their breakfast or lunch hour rush and long lines). This past time, we purchased: - plain croissant - 5/5 - almond croissant - 5/5 - kouign-amann - 5/5 - sticky bun - 5*/5, our favorite of the pastries we ordered - chocolate chip cookie - 5*/5 our favorite cookie of the four we ordered - pistachio dark chocolate cookie - 4/5, very good but we agreed the basic chocolate chip cookie is better - almond cookie - 4/5, solid very good - french baguette - 5*/5, we continue to miss our daily baguettes from the boulangerie around the corner from our place in Paris last summer and this one definitely met our hopes for a real Parisian baguette, I just wish King Arthur was closer to where I live! read more

I'm pretty sure I could live here and be happy as a clam. My mom and I came for a baking class and stayed for some snacks from the bakery. I looked at classes about a month in advance and they were all booked up so we joined a few waitlists and got off the waitlist for the biscuits and scones class! It was pricy at $120 per person but SO worth it. Our instructor was incredibly knowledgeable and made each recipe so simple. We made three different recipes and got to take home about 8 scones, 6 buttermilk biscuits, and 7 cheddar scallion biscuits each. You also get to take home the recipes and a bowl scraper! There are tons of delicious options in the bakery and I went with the dark chocolate pistachio cookie and tomato soup-- both delicious. We drove an hour and a half to get here and it was so worth it! It's been 15 y since my last visit here and there have been soooo many changes. The cafe and retail has expanded. The cooking school seems to be in a new area as well. I love to bake with the KAB flours and went to see what interesting equipment they were offering. The retail store was filled with more mixes and kits than what I was looking for but it was interesting to browse. The cafe area was large and there were many options including a grab and go section. Since we were traveling, we found this to be a nice stop along our travels. I'm not usually a fan of the monarchy, but King Arthur deserves a crown. I had high expectations given King Arthur is like THE flour company and it did not disappoint. This bakery + store was packed when we got there for lunch with a cute outdoor space as well. The line was long but moved quick so don't be deterred. I got a chai latte with oat milk (classic, well spiced, and a good chai to milk ratio) and the brie & apple sandwich. I wouldn't usually call a sandwich "refreshing" but this one was light but filling. The brie was in nice thick slices and the bread was fresh. My only gripe is that a few of my apples had the core which is not great to eat. I also would've liked slightly thicker apple slices! I got the dark chocolate pistachio cookie for dessert which was very good- the addition of the flaky salt on top really made this cookie *dare I say* classy?! We had to swing by the gift shop on our way out and beware!! you may end up spending all your money here. Everything was SO CUTE! And they had samples in the back and after speaking with the baker I was shocked to find out they were from boxed mixes. Overall, I would definitely put this one on the bucket list! read more

Such an insanely good cafe/bakery! I had a focaccia and a hot chai latte. The focaccia was soft and savory - a perfect blend of spices and fresh sweet tomatos. The wait for drinks on a Sunday morning was a little long, but I throughly enjoyed my latte - I'd make a good guess that it was a true chai spice rather than a syrup. 5 stars for the King Arthur Artisan baking school - 4 intense days of bread making in a state of the art kitchen. They were all super organized, very knowledgeable instructors (we had 3 different ones over the course of 4 days) and never any idle time. I baked a total of 22 different things (including 8 croissants) so between the hubby and I we had a LOT of carbs that week. 4 stars for the cafe - fast service and nice assortment of goodies from their bakery. Lots of seating all around and seemed a cool place for people to hang out, work, grab a bite or be on break between class sessions. 3.5 stars for the King Arthur Store - all the stuff you'd assume you'd find - their flours, box kits and baking tools. But as a merchandiser and as someone who visited the store 2x a day for a full week, I was just looking for more stuff to spend money on and felt it was almost too curated. They can increase their SKU count by 20-30% and generate my revenue. (At least that's what I think). Staff was all lovely. EV Drivers - there are 2 slow chargers in their parking lot. This ended up saving us on our last day because we were finally able to get our car topped off. With the super cold weather we definitely lost mileage / efficiency on our rental car. read more

Come to the King Arthur Baking Company even if you are not a baker! Patisserie to delight are available at the cafe counter from croissants to sticky buns to scones to biscuits. Kouign-Amann - a classic French pastry with thin layers of soft, buttery dough - is only available Friday through Sunday. Who doesn't want to taste everything here?! Enjoying that you can get 3 types of chocolate drinks here: hot chocolate, choffee (iced coffee and chocolate milk) and chocolate milk with 1 or 2 slots of espresso. So far, I have loved the French breads, chocolate croissants and oversized biscuits. Many other must-try's are on my list. Things not to miss: sourdough starter-everything supplies, boxes of every kind of King Arthur Flour imaginable in the retail shop, discount items in retail shop, checking the daily bread specials before you visit (see last sentence), sunning in the outdoor courtyard with your cafe food and signing up for King Arthur Baking Classes. Learn how to bake scones, tarts empanadas, Middle Eastern flatbreads, Jewish desserts, bagels, bialys and Kouign-Amann Breton French laminated dough. A 3-day French pastry intensive is $550 and you will be immersed in classic techniques from 9-5. Other 3 day classes with more advanced professionals can be $900 ie All Things Rye and a Sourdough class that also reduces wastefulness in techniques. A 3-hour tart class is $95 and even covers working with ganache. I can't think of a better place to buy trendy and high-quality spices in the upper valley than King Arthur. I like the variety of the seasonal flavors and spices here ie now that it's fall, the cinnamon and apple and pumpkin mixes, flavors and spices are all reliably available well before you can find them in grocery stores. Bakers can find the types of flours they need, for bread, pasta and pizza or cakes and desserts. What kind of flour are you searching for? Signature flours (bread, all-purpose, wheat, unbleached and regeneratively-grown), specialty flours (buttermilk, oat, potato, semolina, Irish-style, keto, semolina, etc.), organic flours, whole grain flours and gluten free flours can all be found here. Also in the retail shop, as a non-baker, I have been overwhelmed by the lack of easy mix baker options. I was delighted to find scone mixes on the website and likely on the shelves -- ie the spiced eggnog scone mix -- which are more non-baker friendly. Finally, as far as the daily bread schedules, I have only seen them posted on the walls and in flyers at the cafe but couldn't easily find them - for the week - on the website. You can, however, easily find the Specialty Breads baked for the day at the toastfab menu link, under insert the Day-of-the-week breads navigation menu. For instance, everyday the name of the day conveniently appears in the daily navigation label like "Thursday Specialty Breads." And so since today is Thursday, you'll get French loaf, French Batard, Roasted Apple Bread, Plain Deli Rye and Seeded Deli Rye. This was a fun experience. The outdoor seating area is very nice but does need to be power washed. The sandwiches are premade (I assume same day because the bread wasn't soggy) so you can't make any modifications. Sandwich was okay - good portion of meat and the bread was obviously the star. On our way to vacation, we popped into the King Arthur Baking Store. At first glance, the store was smaller than I thought it would be but had a decent selection. Some items were pricier than I would have expected, but it is a specialty store. We wanted to purchase sourdough starter. The woman working there was so sweet. She walked me over to a display and taught me all about sourdough and what to expect. It was truly an impromptu crash course. It was great! After we checked out, we stopped by the cafe to get lunch. Everything we ordered was fantastic. We ordered the simple ham sandwich and the Tofu Bahn Mi sandwich. The bread on both was fantastic. The only thing I will say is if you are a picky eater, all the options are premade and cannot be altered - which limits your options. Highly recommend the Bahn Mi... it was unique and tasty. We were going to stop on our way home, but missed the exit and were disappointed we didn't get back to pick up some fresh bread and baked goods for the week. I have been going to Crossroads farm stand just up the road from KA's for a while. I only recently discovered that KA's was nearby. I was recently in the area and finally stopped by. I grew up in NYC and way back when you could easily get a bakery rye bread at any number of local bakeries. Sadly these old school bakeries no longer exist. Guess what I found today...a bakery rye! The fig and brie baguette was cold and dry. Baguette was kind of tough and chewy. The focaccia was decent but the top half was entirely corn for some reason? And again, was cold. What is the point of standing in the line if you're just going to be served cold meals?
