Eat Local! That is always a great place to start when looking for a meal when on the road…read more Nothing "wrong" with the Big Chains, they have their place, but the local booths should always be sat in and their tables supped at. Maddy's fit the bill for a break away from work lunch while on the road. Right out of the 50's, this gleaming location greets you with chrome, red bar stools, the requisite "Kiss My Grits" tin sign on the wall, and 50's music piping from the speakers. The special that day: double cheeseburger. $6. In today's economy?? Only $6?? All the menu items were priced nicely, easy on the wallet. While I was tempted to try a burger, I wanted to see how a diner classic would pan out, so ordered the country fried steak. Placed my order, and before I could manage to take in all the deco on the walls the food arrived from the line station right behind the counter. They serve you a steak knife, but you don't need it, the steak is fork ready, as it should be. They give you two sides option, so I went with green beans and taters, of the french variant. Both were spot on, and I left full and satisfied. I think the total bill came in under $10 or right around there. Good food, filling, and super light on the budget - what more can you ask for? If you find yourself in Waverly, OH, and you would like to fill your belly without worrying about a side hustle to pay the tab, head to Maddy's.

On my way back home from Eastern Kentucky to Columbus and decided to bring home a pizza for dinner…read more I phoned in my order when I was about 25 minutes from the Giovanni's in Waerly, Ohio. I arrived and gave them my name and there was no pizza. My order somehow got lost. They said it would take about 6 minutes so I decided to wait. More like 30 mins overall time from when I walked in the door to the time I left with the pizza. The inside was dimly lit and had a neat brick wall boxing in the kitchen. There were bench seating and chair table options. I still don't know how they lost the order but guessing it was never put in. I even confirmed the phone number worried I called another location. The service was super friendly even with the trouble. I ordered a 19" pepperoni, sausage, and onion pizza. I had another 70 mins on the drive but the pizza made it home without me getting into it but that part was torture. Pizza was good, suave was a little bit more tomatoey but still good. They could have also tossed in a free drink or bag of chips for the inconvenience but was offered nothing for their mix up and charged full price. I would recommend if local or dining in. Staff was a highlight here but going with OK, 3 stars, for the overall inconvenience and the extra time added to my trip. I can say I am glad I waited.

I ordered a sub and salad, which were ready pretty quickly. The salad was loaded-more "stuff" than lettuce, which is fine with me! The sub was good, nothing to get excited about, but good. Maybe with a little more filling it would be great, but for the price, it was reasonable. The dining room is comfortable with lots of booths, and the music is played at a comfortable volume. The waitress was very tentative and friendly, and offered a to go drink, which to me is a bonus! By the way, I'm picky about my sweet tea, they serve Luzianne from fountain, and it was good! I look forward to going back and trying some different things from the menu.
