I ordered a fried egg, cheese and bacon sandwich. I told our server that I liked when the egg yolk popped when I took a bite. I also wanted crispy bacon. What I got was a rock hard WAY overcooked egg with flaccid bacon. I would have voiced my complaint, but we were never checked on to see if everything was ok. When we went up to pay I told pout server that I couldn't eat the sandwich because the egg was so hard. She proceeded to argue with me saying I had told her I wanted it over hard. I am not sure how the health department has not closed this place....I saw 2 roaches on the floor while I was eating, my ice tea glass had lipstick on the glass. My brother in law treated us to breakfast on the last morning of our visit. He and his family like this place. It's a cute, 50's style diner serving breakfast all day (at least on Sundays). We had basic breakfast meals - 3 eggs, bacon, toast, hashbrowns & Chicken fried steak with eggs & biscuits and gravy. The service was polite but HELLA slow. We were there for an hour and a half... at 10-something on a Thursday. Insane. My son had no complaints wityhis chicken fried steak breakfast. I had the chicken fried steak dinner & it was gross. The fries were not even done. Let's start there. Could not eat them. The chicken fried steak tasted of old oil. The salad cane with a dressing that came out of its container in a lump. Barely ate any of it. My daughter got the hobo scramble that only looked like it had 1 egg in it. They really relied on the other stuff in it to make it look bulkier than it was. Had no flavor. Biscuits tasted bland. 45 bucks (with tip)/wont be back. read more

This place is a real diner, a greasy spoon, a hole in the wall. If you go expecting anything more you'll be disappointed. But my husband and I went looking for a breakfast special and we were both pleased. At about 10am we were seated at a big booth immediately. Our waiter was an apathetic, possibly mute dude in his early 20s. But he took our orders and got the coffee pretty quickly. Their scrambled eggs tasted like the real deal (not instant) and they serve tasty real hash browns. The bacon and sausage were crispy, and the pancakes were fluffy and soft. Don't give up on this place. I really want to give this place 4 stars, but I have to be real. I had the breakfast special: eggs, pancakes, choice of grits or hash browns, and choice of meat. I also ordered toast for my eggs. I read a previous review about eggs over medium, so I ordered my eggs over easy. They came out perfect....over medium, which is exactly what I wanted. The grits were a bit watery and the bacon was crisp (which I like-I'm not a fan of limp bacon) however, it was a bit greasy, so I dabbed it with my napkin. THE PANCAKES WERE TO DIE FOR. They use good syrup. The toast had white stuff around the edges. It could have been flower, but it was a turn off. The inside of the place looked like it was recently given a makeover. I stayed next door at the Candlewood suites on Labor Day weekend. The hotel clerk recommended it as a really good mom and pop diner. He was right. I had the Hobo Scramble but asked that they substitute the eggs for egg whites and the sausage for ham. No problem. My breakfast was delish. My wife has the breakfast special. It came with 2 pancakes, meat, and hash browns. Also, delish. The pancakes were light and fluffy. The service was great. The food was great. The decor was a little cliche (route 66 stuff and 1950's diner stuff) but kinda divey. Next time I am in Longview, I will make sure to patronize this place instead of a national chain. It was so good to go into another restaurant in Texas and see the wait staff not wearing masks. I don't trust people whose faces I can't see. Our waitress was great. She got us exactly what we ordered and was good about checking in on us and giving us refills on our coffees. The food wasn't bad. I also loved the sign at the door reading "He is risen". It appears this may be a Christian-owned or Christian-run establishment, which is another selling point. The restrooms are clean and serviceable but could use some fixing up. The booths are tight, so if you are on the heavy side, you may have trouble fitting in. read more

We came for brunch with our three kids. The ladies were very nice and welcoming. The food didnt take long to come out after ordering, and the food itself was pretty good. I ordered a chicken sandwich with fries and the fries were pretty salty to me but that may just be my preference speaking. The sandwich was good. My kids all had pancakes, and for a childrens order it was a very decent sized serving. My fiance ordered a breakfast plate, and although he ordered fried eggs and fries with it, it came out with hash browns and scrambled eggs. Which wasnt THAT big of a deal to him, we didnt even mention it to the waitress. He enjoyed his meal all in all. The atmosphere was really layed bavk and we enjoyed that. Went to ihop originally but the wait was to long. I wish I waited. Gruby diner, definitely popular with the older crowd. Placed my order for a classic breakfast. Pancakes, eggs, hash browns and bacon. Not even 3 minutes later it's served. The pancakes were not made fresh to order, they were cold. Couldn't even melt the fake butter they have on the table. The pancakes were the biggest disappointment. They were also dry and crumbled at the touch of a fork. The other food was just meh. The giant bottle of maple syrup on each table was also not very appealing. Do yourself a favor and skip this diner. read more

Another very nice woman comes over and offers to put ham in it. I ask for it to be warmed also. She brings it back and refills my coffee that hasn't been filled in ten minutes. I finish my sad breakfast (the biscuit was very obviously pillsbury canned biscuit). So I keep sitting there and the young girl gives me my bill. $11.02. I go up to pay. She says $12.74 and just looks at me. I said "$11.02, like on the bill you gave me". "Well we added the ham," she says. "But the bill says $11.02," I say. "Yeah, but you added the ham." Paid the bill and left. No thank you, have a nice day. Nothing. I expected more. I will not be returning and will definitely let everyone know that I encounter at the hotel I'm at for FIVE WEEKS to spend your money elsewhere. read more

Is no one going to mention how run down and disgusting it has gotten? There is not one seat that is not torn up and dirty. Food particles and dust everywhere. Everything is sticky and never cleaned. The main reason I will never go there again is this, I went in and we were told to go seat ourselves at the end booth, which was mostly covered in duct tape at this point. On my way there I stepped on food, pancakes and syrup I believe, that squished around the sides of my shoe that I had to scrape off AND I encountered 2 live roaches. One on the floor where my feet would be had I sat down and the other one legs up wiggling on the actual booth seat. All this within 1 minute of being there. We immediately turned around and left. I normally do NOT bash businesses. Especially local ones but this has to shared! The girls and I went to LIZZIES DINER today and while there the owners son got into with one of waitstaff. Bless her heart. He was awful and cussing! He was probably young late 20's. The owner standing there never apologized. Right in front around all customer INCLUDING MY CHILDREN! I spoke my peace of course about his unprofessionalism and the fact there were children around to which he jumped on me! I have contacted Longview police and will be filing a complaint for his offensive profanity. And sadly will not EVER let them be graced with my presence again! Friendly service and a great lunch special. I got two pork chops, mashed potatoes, green beans, fresh roll, iced tea, and pineapple upside down cake for under $10.
