Good food, friendly service. This is my favorite diner in Longview. I like the fact there are a lot more breakfast meat options.

My FIL raves about this place. He calls it HIS city diner. We are new to the city of Longview so he likes to drive around looking for things. Well this place would be something we would pass up because the place looks abandoned. The sign is in need for paint. The landscape well, is dead and needs water and someone not to trample over it. Looks like they painted the building recently but whoever did it didn't finish and dropped paint everywhere. There are blinds of one side of the building that makes you think it's closed and when we pulled in two cars on a Saturday morning! Try some of the other places around town to get breakfast and the places are crowded. One server and one table full. Six people walked in before us and two more after us. So five tables to wait one. She was efficient going from table to table. We ordered coffee and oj. Oj was delicious but it would have be awesome to be fresh squeezed. Coffee, and I'm not a big coffee drinker but the coffee was hot and just he way I liked it. Not strong but tasted like coffee. Breakfast arrived pretty quick. Cons: bacon cold and toast was cold. Pros: bacon nice and crunchy! Hash browns cooked very nicely, and the sausage gravy did not taste like a powder mix. Biscuits were soft. Give it a try! If you want a quick breakfast with some decent food this is the place. read more

The food was properly prepared but was barely warm. The price is high for the amount of food served. The bacon was anemic and the sausage patties were overcooked! My biggest complaint however is the coffee. It was not coffee. It was light brown water and to boot, it was lukewarm. The service was slow but only because there was only one waitress. Our waitress was non stop doing everything. The elder lady helping her though sweet, was really just a server. Both ladies were pleasant and kind. They just need more help. The place is an old diner not dirty but not quite clean either. I would not recommend breakfast here. read more

A small, unassuming little diner. The food is amazing!! We went on Saturday morning around 10:30, so it was a bit busy with only one waitress. She was wonderful, though!!! Gyro pita was better than some I've had at Mediterranean restaurants. Fries were perfect. Husband had an omelette with gyro meat which was also delicious! Highly recommend. I have no idea what's going on with this restaurant, but we ate there Sunday and won't be back. I had sausage, eggs, and toast, someone else had a BLT, and the other ordered the giant waffle. The waitress fumbled with her order pad for 5 minutes looking for an open ticket, and seemed impaired throughout the service. Got our drinks, then half an hour later, we were informed that the waffle maker wasn't working properly, so the cook had taken it apart and then put it back together. If waffles weren't available, why not tell us and allow us to make a change? Finally after more than 45 minutes, we got breakfast. BLT was tasteless and lacked enough mayo, waffle was just cooked with no crisp at all. My sunny side up eggs had to be cut with a knife, toast was chewy, sausage was chewy, and coffee like water, but we ate it. Then I asked for the check. After more than 5 minutes, I went to the register and I was pretty irritated by now. My waitress was there with someone at the register with the register dismantled. He kept pushing numbers with no result for another few minutes. So I asked if she could just total my bill and let me leave. She even had a calculator, pushed a few numbers, then acted helpless. We ate here last a few years ago. It was great. The Gyro Cheese Omelet was our favorite along with the awesome French Fries dipped in Mayo. The Bacon, the Biscuits & Gravy, the Cheeseburger and the Philly Cheese Steak were all very good. Diner atmosphere. It was a good visit. read more

Classic old Highway diner that was the staple of travelers and locals alike. City Diner is clean and updated and the service was fast & friendly. I ordered a Turkey Omelette- Deli turkey, Swiss, onions & bell peppers. It was a great option for my Weight Watchers diet. The Turkey was diced up and the omelette was perfectly prepared. We've been eating here since they opened nearly 10 years, and still love it. They serve a delicious home-style breakfast with huge, thick pancakes. The lunch menu is very tasty as well - I highly recommend getting gyro or the Reuben, those are my two favorites. They serve seasoned fries, but go with the soup of the day. This was our first time eating at City diner we chose it because it was the closest place to get breakfast this place was kind of like the old diners that look like a hole in the wall. Our service was good neither one of us care for bread so we both ordered omelettes almost 8$ bucks for each omelette and they where really small we didn't get the actual platter but they charged us just as we had. When I asked if they had an alacarte price for an omelette the lady said they had no way to do alacarte and I said so you can't order a side of anything. She said no no big deal we just won't ever go back. read more

Pretty standard East Texas diner. Non- descript salad (should have gotten the soup). Got the hamburger steak plate. The hamburger steak ought to come with brown gravy to add flavor and overcome the dryness of the meat. I loved the mashed potatos because they were whipped like they used to do in school cafeterias and the brown gravy was straight out of a jar. I may be in the minority but I just love that! The green beans were good. The service was very nice and they get the food out to you quick. The atmosphere is a little Spartan. Some carpet sure would soften the place up some. It's not the best I've ever had but I'd go back. I went back a few days later for breakfast. The coffee was horrible. Orange juice really bad, too. It took WAY too long for them to get the food out. I would go back for the food but I wouldn't want to wait as long as we did. I waffle (no pun intended) on whether to give this place 2 or 3 stars. read more

I was in Longview for work and my coworker and I stopped by this place wanting brunch food on a weekday at 11am. Needless to say, we were both pleasantly surprised and delighted that they serve a full breakfast menu the entire time they're open. We both got the skillets with eggs over easy and it was amazing. I had the corn beef hash skillet (despite my low carb diet) and I ate every bite knowing it was completely worth the workout I would have to endure later on in the day.
