Our ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) has been coming here for breakfast since 2024. LT has set up a table for us each Thursday and assigned a waitress for us. For two years now they have had great service and have treated us very well. Our waitress (Ri) has moved on as of this morning, but our new waitress (Tracy) taking care of our group today did a great job. This was her first time waiting on us (which varies each week from about 6 to up to a max of 15 guys). She continually checked on us for coffee refills and did a bang up job. Most of us order the same thing each week and have been pleased with the food (except possibly the pancakes!). The pancakes have proven to NOT be a favorite amongst the group...and possibly the SOS (beef on toast with gravy) isn't so hot either. Both of these could use improvement, but other than that it is good. Can't complain about the service or anything else!. read more

Lizard's Thicket has been a staple in my family since I was a little boy growing up in Cola, SC. Great memories of my mom taking my brother and I here and getting green beans and mac & cheese. Took my children here for breakfast and they loved it. Service is always good as it has the down home country feel to it. Pricer than what I remember but it is 2026. I bought a chef salad with fried chicken and all of the fried chicken was breading only with no meat. It was so disappointing to think you're eating chicken and only taste breading and bones. I called and they said that it's normally like that and they suggest to get fried strips instead. Seems like it should be be a given if it's known that that can't achieve the appropriate salad on request. I want to preface this with how much I enjoy Lizards Thicket. I always stop when I'm in the Metro area. With that said, this location was hands down the worst I've been to, by far. Server was great, but I've never had food that bad at a Lizards location before. Mac and cheese was flavorless, my country fried steak was way overcooked and falling apart, and every thing on my wife's plate was cold to the touch. Told the server and instead of making a new plate with fresh, hot food, they microwaved it and gave it back to her. Just piss poor. Do yourself a favor and avoid the two notch rd location. Came in about 10am today ( Wednesday, June 12, 2019) and it's a seat yourself place. Apparently popular with the older locals as a go to hang out eatery. Wife and I were looking for greasy spoon breakfast joint and this one fits well. I had the 2 eggs, sausage links, grits and toast. Wife had a chicken biscuit. Food was marginal at best; chicken on biscuit was undercooked; grits were thick but tasteless, eggs were too runny for over medium as requested, I asked for toast no butter, they were buttered. I had a meal on Sunday 12/29/2024 I had beef stew with rice, Lima beans, macaroni and cheese and a cornbread muffin. The cornbread was the best thing on the plate. The kid and I stopped by here for lunch one day and we ordered catfish dinners. I ordered mine with rice/gravy and Mac and cheese. I don't eat pork so I had to choose sides that I didn't think would have pork in it. My daughter had double cabbage. The catfish was good. Very small pieces. The rice and gravy had more rice with a little bit of gravy. No real taste to the gravy and the Mac and cheese was ok. My daughter said the cabbage was bland. Standard menu item is one meat and 3 vegetables for 9.19, however they have other menu items including salads and also breakfast as well. If you are craving this type of food, it is normally pretty good. Usually have some issues with consistency at times and different restaurants seem like they may no It exactly follow the same recipe but I do enjoy eating here. We have driven I-95 from MD to FL many times, but since we typically do not stop in South Carolina, this was our first time here! We were a little hesitant at first, however, I am so glad we went in to check it out. He opted for the fried chicken and I got the roasted chicken and we both were very happy. For our sides, we went with mac and cheese, fried okra, and potato salad, were delicious as well. If you have heard of southern hospitality, the staff here is a perfect example! This is what I was craving yesterday. A lot of home cooked food at a value price. Chase said, " this is the best mac and cheese!. I ordered baked leg quarter, collard greens, fried okra, and kale salad -- all equally delicious. Our Waitress, Jen must have invisible skaters. She was served piping hot, delicious food without skipping a beat. Plus, she was friendly and professional. Always a plus for me. I switch tables so that Jen will be our waitress. Every time we visit family in Columbia we stop by and always have a wonderful time. We dined here on Tuesday and arrived around 6 pm. We seated ourselves as directed and were able to easily find a table to accomodate our party of 6. Our server greeted us promptly and provided excellent service. I had the chicken fried steak with the "white" gravy on the side. I also had fried okra, green beans and lima beans. Everything was PERFECT. The gravy had the perfect amount of pepper to ensure it wasn't overpowering. The breading on the okra was nicely golden fried. There were not pieces of ham in the green beans or lima beans, which I'm use to-and pick out, but they were not lacking flavor. The cornbread seemed over cooked or had been sitting out too long. It was tough...no butter or gravy could make it "right." Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals. My son loved his 6 oz grilled chicken breast. He said it was seasoned nicely. He ate ALL of it. Over the years this restaurant quality of food begin to drop. The food these days are up just warmed up food from cans with no extra taste. They have cut corners so much they don't really have a real cook in the kitchen to properly season the meat and veggies. The food at this location is marginal at best and sometimes downright terrible. The location is near our home so we eat there occasionally due to convenience. The last visit there was a catastrophe. After asking the very pleasant waitperson for a different piece of chicken because the one on my husband's plate was mangled and unappetizing, we were told that the manager would have to speak with us. The manager came over, proceeded to speak loudly and rudely. He repeatedly asked what was wrong with the chicken and demanded that we explain why we wanted it replaced. Even after we said not to worry about it, he stated he had never had a request like that and didn't understand the problem. He used a profanity and then said that he did not. All in all, our meal was ruined and we have decided not to go back. My 12 year old son was with us and even he was appalled. We will not support a business who allows management to treat customer and guests so badly. read more
