This place apparently went under some renovations last summer and the place looks brand new! The interior is very nice, very modern, and a huge improvement. Their food was delicious, and the service quick. We got mimosas ($20), I got the caramel apple pancakes ($10.99), and my mom got "the classic" breakfast ($8.99). The grits had cheese on it and it was slightly runnier than I like but it was still good. I put it a little bit of salt and pepper on it and it did its job. When my omelet first came out, it had onions and peppers on it even though the waitress told the kitchen no onions and peppers lol so she took it back and they made me a new one fairly quickly. I put a little hot sauce on it and it was so delicious. They give you a decent amount of shrimp and sausage so definitely didn't skimp out on the filling and it parties well with the grits. Asked Sam to make a fresh pot, but she didnt, she got it out of the big carafe machine, and second cup she brought also had the same burnt taste to it, that no amount of cream and sugar would have taken away. This was my first visit to this location, but second visit to Eggs Up overall in Columbia, and it still lives up to all expectations. While an odd thing did occur at this visit (more on that later) the food and the service were totally on point. Having perused the Yelp page (of course!) before visiting, I saw that they had a Home Fries Platter/bowl. Whaa? Yeah, that HAD to be ordered. I went for the Traditional, topped with scrambled eggs but minus the bacon, and was overwhelmed by how good these were. A few shakes of hot sauce made them perfect. What I liked was that there was just the right amount of cheddar cheese melted in...I know its verboten in the South, but I don't like TOO much cheese, so I was a happy eater. The sweetie and I also chose to order their Sweet Potato Waffle, to share, but this proved overwhelming as everything was so filling. The waffle was crazy good though, and I opted to eat my portion with the provided creamy cinnamon syrup, which was barely sweet. The odd thing was that we were told we had a 10-15 minute wait, but that restaurant was only half-full. We opted to sit at the 'bar' which allowed immediate service, thankfully. We surmised that they do this to keep service quickly floating, but then why have all this space? Upon entrance, one becomes entrances with the lighting and comfort colors spread throughout the restaurant. My party and I got seated very quickly and Darren was incredibly prompt with getting our orders in. To our pleasure, our orders came out almost lightning fast and we were able to dig right in. My Southwestern Bowl had a wonderful filling to it along with an almost scientific blend of ingredients, although, the jalapeños were quite big. The avocado and BLT are more like additions for extra flavor. Regardless, though, it's a good sandwich. We were seated relatively quickly (by Taylor) - very nice young lady. Unfortunately, after this our experience went way downhill. Claudia (our waitress) just could not get it together! She forgot to put an order on, put another order in wrong and brought the food to the table 1 by 1. She seemed overwhelmed having to work multiple tables at once and was confused by items on the menu. Food - absolutely do NOT order the shrimp and grits omelette (you'll get about 4 shrimp) and the grits that accompany the dish are disgusting (spinach and red pepper). When this place first opened, they had some very good food. Things have changed since then. They have positively the worst home fries that I've ever had in my life! A couple years or so when they were new on the scene, the home fries were crispy - and diced, like home fries should be. Now, their "home fries" are soft, brown, "stuff" that tastes like what an old dish rag smells like. I made the mistake of ordering the home fries again on the last visit. I told my wife, "I hope they've changed back to the way they used to make crispy home fried potatoes." Just for extra measure, I asked the waiter (who was very nice) for my order of home fries to be crispy. Yeah, they came "crispy" all right.
