Good southern food and great service. Ambiance is old school, but nice. We will go back again.

OK. I am done with this place. They have gradually been going downhill for some time but today they took a nosedive. I realize things are tough in the food industry but this place exemplifies all the negative and very little positive. (the wait staff being the only positive). The portions were a good deal smaller than they use to be. I usually get only two sides but today I could have eaten three. The real downfall was that the food was lukewarm at best. Understandable if we were there at 2 or later but we were there at 12:30. I would have sent it back but we didn't have the time. Back in the day this was my "go to" place. Lizards thicket is a solid brand in the area with the classic meat and 2 or meat and 3 but they really need to lower their salt content unless they want their older patrons to die from congestive heart failure. Went yesterday for thanksgiving and we both got Mac and cheese which was too salty to enjoy even with a bite of meat. We could not eat it. The fried okra was overcooked, the fried chicken was a small breast and they didn't give any of the cornbread that comes with the meal. Money wasted. read more

Went to find breakfast, came upon this restaurant. Different name, so I gave it a shot. Quiet and clean, great start. Service was fast and attentive, cup never got close to empty. Food choices was great. Fast delivery to table. Had 2 small issues that are more on me than them. I asked for hashbrowns, got home fries, should have asked. Little to much butter on toast, easy fix, scraped it off. Good service, fair price. Worth a visit. My server was a nice lady named Deborah, she was great. read more

But we waited almost 25 mins then the waitress came to say they were out of fried chicken so I got baked chicken while sitting there my daughter saw hair in her food they took it back and remade it supposedly the second plate came back out they supposedly remade for her she took a bite and there it was another hair . let me just say not one manager came out and tried to fix this or corrext it they only took her plate off and still charged us for our other plates and everybody drink this is very very unprofessional we will never go back and to the rude manager I'm calling DHEC !!! read more

Absolutely delicious! Nice variety on the menu. I had the salmon patty and it was cooked to perfection. Our waitress, Kimmie, was wonderful. She was very attentive. Everyone there was so nice. We are traveling from Kentucky to the beach, and enjoyed everything about this place. read more

I've been dining here since the first location opened in an old house on Broad River Road 40+ years ago. The food has gone downhill a little bit, but is still better than the national chains. Just your basic breakfast. No special twists/variations on the eggs, pancakes or sausage to make you say 'WOW!'. There were other items on the breakfast menu like catfish that are less common from your typical diner. Might have made a diff in my review to have tried one of them. Service was good and judging by the customers, I'll say it's a popular spot for seniors to gather in groups. Probably a better choice for a 'meat & 3', with the big menu on the wall having a good variety of southern cooking favorites. I'm in no hurry to return for breakfast. read more

Been coming to Lizards Thicket for decades! It is a local Columbia chain started in 1977 with thirteen restaurants in the Columbia area. They are known for their sweet tea, a meat and three sides. They have some unusual pickings like fried liver and classics like fried chicken. Great for B, L or D. Went to the Irmo location. It is clean, massive. Do not go to this lizards thicket as the manager Terry Williams will not stand behind good quality food. I ordered to go order that was well over 50 bucks and when arriving home found the chicken was wrong not baked but fried. Like last week fried, it tasted as if the oil had never been changed or had been cooked earlier in the day. The pork chops looked as if they were cooked earlier in the day and I guess because they were so bad opted to put two of them in the to go box. All the food tasted bland had no flavor terrible service. When calling to complain about the food, all I was told was to bring it back for a refund. Then hung up on me and my wife with stage four cancer. I will never eat at this lizards, thicket, or any other LizardsThicket again! Teri needs to be fired and taught customer service... Wow! My friend recommended this place for some delicious Southern cookin'. We arrived at 6:30 with a fairly large party of 10 and they sat us right away. The menu is quite large and a little overwhelming for newbies. They have specials for every day. Service was great! Our server was friendly and informative. The only complaint was that a lot of our sides came out cold. Other than that we will definitely be going back! read more

I understand "inflation " but if you are going to raise your prices two and three dollars, you should still continue to give two rolls. Oh MY GOODNESS! I was only in Columbia for 18 hours and my AirBnB hostess recommended this restaurant. I love homestyle, good cookin and she said Lizard's Thicket and I was like- what?!?! Ok- super close to where I stayed & the drive-thru had a line around the building! Great sign! The parking lot was half full and upon entering (and full by the time I left) I was told I could sit anywhere I liked. I found a booth and the menus were already on the table- however I had already Yelp and menu stalked the place before coming- so I knew exactly what I wanted (pssst- check the specials!) Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, mac-n-cheese and the green beans. I knew I wouldn't finish 3 sides plus meat- but I wanted to taste everything. My server was bright, smiles and full of great info! We hit it right off and she was just a doll! She brought me out hot, fresh corn bread muffins and real butter- oh- heaven. She also thanked me for being such a sweetheart- but she made it so easy! I would prefer to make others smile! Well the service just was non-stop! When I went to order the fried chicken you have the choice of white or dark (per the menu) but what I didn't know is that you could get boneless fried chicken breast- whaaaaattttt?????? Shut the front DOOR! Yes Pa-lease! She also told me their mac is da best, which made me happier that I wanted it on my plate. She told me she never brings a dish out that she herself wouldn't eat- that much attention to detail! When the food arrived I had a moment of oh crap- I am never going to eat all this. The. Mac. N. Cheese. Just stopped and look at the pic- because it was creamy, perfectly cooked mac with a thick layer of cheddar baked over that hot madness. That was the first bite. Food orgasm- I moved around the plate- mashed potatoes were fine, but the mac had my heart. The fried Chicken was delish- but again, that mac!!! The green beans were the flat ones (my hubby loves those) and they were yummy as well. So.... I finished the mac-n-cheese. Not a morsel left of that, but everything else had bits left. No point in taking leftovers as I was leaving town early in the morning- but my amazing server loaded me up with hot-fresh-cornbread for the road. Damn you woman! lol. I really really wanted dessert and they had a special any dessert starting that day for 99 cents- but I just couldn't wrap my head around eating anything else! But the list of desserts.... oh my! Bless my heart- they had fried pound cake! Banana pudding, chocolate cake, lemon meringue, chocolate meringue, peach cobbler, carrot cake, apple cobbler and more! This local chain has been going downhill for several years now. The food is just not as good as it used to be. I go all the way back with them. The airport location was close to my office and I had lunch from there several times a week. It was sad to see it close but the quality of the food and the preparation was just bad. I have tried two other locations and they are suffering from the same issues. A recent example of what we experienced was country fried steak with the edges too tough to chew and a burned salmon patty that was replaced with an undercooked one after everyone had finished their meals. This is so very sad for me because of years of great meals and memories I have. read more

This was my first time here and I was not disappointed The service was absolutely Great. Loved the atmosphere, gave a at home feel which fit the whole country cooking theme. I drove to Lexington SC to visit family and on our way back to Charlotte my family decided to stop here to eat. I placed my order to go and headed back to Charlotte. Once i got home to Charlotte and opened my food, there were only 3 pieces of beef stew. I ordered double Mac and cheese with beef stew but instead got double mac with carrots and potatoes with 3 small pieces of beef. Waste of time and money!!! read more

Seated quickly there were six of us. Many selections and choices of vegetables. Chose cornbread it was good but the whipped spread (not butter) had an off taste it was in those little tiny packets. I had chicken fried steak. Others in the party chose catfish, one ordered pork chops. The chicken fried steak was tasty but a little on the tough side. The catfish was crispy and tasty. Pork chops were very good but breading was doughy. All the vegetables fried okra, okra and tomatoes, cabbage, beets, mashed potatoes and gravy were all excellent. There's the new girl...I detest this young lady...lack of ownership, poor customer service and an extreme displeasure to work with. Our staff used LT for catering at one of our staff meetings. The food tasted yummy, and the catering was laid out nicely. If you like Southern comfort food, you'll like Lizard's Thicket. They served baked chicken, fried chicken, green beans, and mac 'n cheese. They also had salad and desserts. While I loved all that I ate, I wish there had been some healthier options/sides. Mac 'n cheese is yummy, but isn't always the best for us. Let me just say the banana pudding was spectacular. I love me some banana pudding and LT does it right. Decided to try out lizards thicket again at a different location than before. We came for breakfast and I'd seen this onion sausage on the menu and was really interested in trying it. We sat ourselves and we're greeted shortly after by our waitress. She gave us menus and I'd double checked to make sure nothing else caught my eye while my fiancée needed to look over the menu. I ended up trying the sausage since I love onions and sausage, he ordered the breakfast sampler. I ordered sausage gravy to go with my biscuit and he ordered an extra biscuit. Our waitress was really good and didn't need to write anything down even my request for cheese on my hashbrowns was added. Our food arrived probably 8 mins after ordering and was nice and hot. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the hashbrowns were better than they were at the last location. Everything had flavor and the sausage was really good but idk if it's worth the price for just one link. The biscuits were soft and the gravy was amazing with it. He made a sandwich with his second biscuit after having the first with jelly. Over all a definite good choice this morning. Stopped in at 9:30 this morning. Party of 3 and the sign said to seat yourself. We ended up waiting for 10 minutes and NOBODY acknowledged us. One waitress spent the entire time gossiping with a regular just across from us. Another came over and refilled waters on the table next to us but never said a word and then went back to the kitchen. The place wasn't very busy and we were totally ignored. As we got up to leave, I went to the front to let them know why we were leaving. The woman on the phone saw me approach and was on the phone at the time so she just turned her back. Last time we stop at this location. Absolutely great food and service! Due to Covid, I get take-out for my family, going inside to order. The staff follows health guidelines. Not only is the food hot and delicious,, but also the orders are served REALLY fast. Many establishments totally fail with takeout orders. Not so with this location. Great service- super kind waitresses and hostess. Fresh rolls and cornbread- hot from kitchen!! I had to add a little salt and pepper to the Mac and cheese- but I didn't mind, it was delicious. We go to the Lizard at least once per week for breakfast. The quality of the food and service is consistently good. Most of the time, the food is great and you get a lot of value for the price. We try not to overeat for breakfast and routinely order the small plate for adults. It has one egg and an adjusted portion of meat along with potatoes or grits and toast. When we are a little extra hungry, we'll get biscuits with a side of pepper gravy. They have a good selection of Southern meats with breakfast such as fried fish, blood pudding and hash. read more

The paper bag was never opened and I took the banana puddings to work the next morning only to find two bugs in the pudding. The manager Jason at the Irmo, South Carolina location credited me two more banana puddings. First I am disgusted of the thought that this could happen again. Therefore, I do not want banana puddings. Secondly, we are not really getting a credit because we paid for the banana puddings, but not to eat it with bugs in it. This place will serve you so much food for less than $10. I tried the chicken and dumplings Monday special and it was nice warm comfort food on a cold day. The sides of fried okra and kale hit the spot - salty and healthy lol. The squash casserole wasn't that good - it has melted cheddar cheese that obviously came from a bag. I didn't finish that one.
