I found this agency through a Craigslist ad. I contacted the agency because they were looking for…read morepeople to use in upcoming projects. They specialize in casting extras or background actors. I went in and did a short cold reading. I was a little surprised to do a reading for extra work, but I was advised they all do bookings for minor speaking roles. I was given a slip of paper to call the next morning, which I did. I was informed that I'd passed that part of the screening process. Next, I was to bring in headshots. I didn't have any at the moment, and Ann advised she could provide contact info for photographers, IF that is what I wanted or I could use my own photographer. She went over the photo requirements. I didn't have a photographer in town right now that I was using, so I used one of Anne's suggested photographers. He only charged $200 for headshots. Once I met with the photographer, I was instructed to meet with Ann later that day. I did as instructed and brought her my headshots. She gave me a resume template and asked me to create a resume and return the next day, which I did. She then advised me about an audition that was happening the next week on a Monday. I showed up at the audition as instructed (it was for a courtroom drama), and it went great. I not only got one of the parts, but it was a speaking role. I am VERY pleased with Ann and LAC Background and I look forward to getting more jobs from this agency.

The original voicemail I received included the study date and what I should do. So two days later, on the day of the study, I messaged them to see if I'm still signed up as a respondent. No one replied. Not even a courtesy "no, we found another respondent and the group is closed." I'm not sure if anyone actually works here other than the lady who called me, but in my experience the way they handled things was incredibly unprofessional. If this is how they treat focus group respondents, why would anyone want to commission a research study with them? They certainly won't get my vote if my employer, a large media company, ever needs a research partner.

About 20 participants were assigned to each topic, which can range from video games to taste testing. The particular session that I qualified for was about an upcoming commercial from a top financial institution. I was asked to rate several variations of the commercial using a dial (0 to 99 scale). Within an hour, I collected a $100 Visa gift card as compensation. I thought that it was neat to see how much work goes behind making a commercial, starting from concepts. At the end of the day, most of the work gets scraped and only one variation makes it to the tube. This result is driven by what the consumers and audience consider to be a "winning product".
