Okay so hear me out... I enjoyed Live K for what it was. A karaoke lounge. So for that alone, Live K can get 4 stars. And parking in the surrounding area wasn't bad - about $24 for 3 hours on a Friday night in The Wharf garage. If I caught the parking price list accurately, 0-1 hours was $6, and 1-2 hours was $11. There is also valet options available too. Outside of that, let's step into the inside.... I attended Live K on a Friday night for a friends birthday. She did not book an isolated room but the opened floor was just that - an opened floor, people walking past, mics being passed around the floor, the bar steps away, all of the things. It's fun. BUT, I'm not going to lie - I will NOT order food or drinks from this place. I was told from the birthday girl that there is a happy hour with food and drinks from I think 4-7p but I arrived later than that, and paid MORE than full price for drinks in my opinion...... .....4 shots.... & 1 Red Bull, $124....... So do with that information what you will. I could NOT give this place 5-stars if I'm including REASONABLE prices. read more

My review is more for my personal experience than the customer service. I attended a birthday party here and I had an amazing time with my friends so I can give them credit for not ruining that haha. The location itself is awful but that's the wharf for you. Parking is horrible and the garage is super expensive so the new location at the harbor may be better. We had a separate room and it came with two mics which was fun for us to duet or just share a song with a friend. The database is hard to navigate and a great deal of the songs don't come with lyrics so that was a bummer. Also they don't display the song when you're singing, sometimes it would be random figures on the screen so that was different. My friend ordered skewers, wings and fries and that was fairly solid so I don't have much input there. The bathroom was disgusting. Water leaking all over the floor and trash cans overflowing. I'd come back to the location if I could carpool but with the new location at the harbor that would be easier to navigate for sure. read more

I PAID $1200 FOR THE WORST KARAOKE OF MY LIFE. *EDIT: I was charged additional gratuity of $200+ on the cost of the private room (not clearly disclosed in advance) & found out days later that my guests were ALSO charged an automatic 20% gratuity on their food & drinks!* I paid $250+ / hour for their largest private room to celebrate my birthday. I & my friends are huge karaoke people & have been to a karaoke all over the DMV, including other private room venues. This is insanely expensive compared to anything else. At that rate I expected a premium experience. The service was premium. The space was premium. The mics & sound system were premium. The drink prices were quite reasonable (at least I thought so until I found out we were double billed automatic 20% gratuity). BUT THE KARAOKE ITSELF WAS A DUMPSTER FIRE. I guess it's fine if you don't care about music or singing. Their system has both a searchable internal library of karaoke arrangements & then it also connects to YouTube if you can't find what you want. 90% of the songs we wanted were not in their system! But when we went to YouTube it was impossible to find videos that didn't have the original vocalist singing - they were just basically music videos with lyrics on them. And because their system was slow & we didn't want long pauses we had to cue up YouTube videos without previewing them so you never knew what you were getting. Half the time, the system would skip the song entirely without advance warning because of a "YouTube error." Also, I CAN WATCH YOUTUBE KARAOKE VIDEOS AT HOME. Why did I pay $1200 for this?! The arrangements that they did have? Absolute crap. Some came on with no lyrics so we had to find them on our phones. Some had almost no music in the background, just a beat. Songs that did have lyrics were missing many of the words or had insane typos Some had super long intros so we would have to wait over a minute to start singing (no FF option), & when you are paying by the hour you want to try to get through as many songs as possible. Literally, Born this Way by Lady Gaga (one of the few artists for whom they had an extensive library) was the entire music video so we had to sit through the entire beginning intro where she talks forever. We ended up skipping it. Their only version of Shoop by Salt N Peppa was a weird remix with a long intro I couldn't recognize. Their only version of Lady Marmalade was a cover by a Korean girl band. Their only version of Yesterday literally was just the melody played on what sounded like a pan flute. And in case you think our expectations for what songs they'd have available were too high, missing songs were things my friends and I sing at other karaoke venues all the time. Missing songs & artists included: -Boyz II Men -Chapel Roan -Lenny Kravitz -Dixie Chicks -Four Non Blondes -Guns N Roses -Motley Crew -Janis Joplin -Hand in my Pocket by Alanis -You Oughta Know by Alanis -I Don't Want to Be by Gavin McGraw -Black Hole Sun -Counting Blue Cars -Wagon Wheel -Feelin Good by Michael Buble -Jolene by Dolly Parton (they only had Miley's which is super low and hard to sing) -Halleluah by Rufus Wainright (the only had the Leonard Cohen version which sucks) And those are just the ones *I* was looking for for myself. My friends all had the same issue. This is so disappointing because if this had been good I would have considered coming here to rent a small room every week or two to practice new songs, but after that experience NEVER will I pay for a room here again. Other issues? The room I rented was for up to 40 people. There is no way. I invited that many people but a lot of my friends ended up not being in town that weekend and it's a good thing because the seats were full at 20. Also when I looked at their website before booking it said that everyone could pay for food & drink on their own tabs but it was not clear (maybe in the fine print but not obvious) that I would be paying for gratuity on my bill based on the price of the room so instead of paying like 700 & change for 3 hours it was over 1000, which I did not expect. Then I fought with the manager for extra time because the system was so bad & we barely sang for our first hour, so he ended up giving me half an hour for free even though I asked for an hour & I had to pay for another half hour. So this came out to like $1200 when I thought I would be spending way less than that. Also prepare to wait in line & be frisked and searched VIGOROUSLY. If you book a room the hold your ID and credit card at the front the whole time. Naturally after all the hectic disappointment & extra time & unexpected charges I forgot them. To their credit, they called me & left a helpful voicemail immediately & were totally ready for me when I came back an hour later. But ultimately this is a karaoke place where you can't sing karaoke so it doesn't matter how nice everything else is. Save the money & rent a karaoke machine at home. read more

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Live K to celebrate my sandbox best friend's birthday. I stood in line outside to get searched & physical ID checked. Once inside, I navigated through all the party ppl standing near the public bar & folks waiting to perform in order to access our VIP room. Unfortunately, I found the guest of honor feverishly cleaning. I helped clean until the manager arrived & sent an employee to finish cleaning the room. Once we learned how to use the equipment, our personal party was really fun. The lights, lyrics on large digital walls, multiple microphones, & special photographs rotating on the ceiling were futuristic & cool. Aside from the delayed cleaning, there was an issue with the payment system for food & drinks. Live K asked if I used Cash app since they can't accept credit cards. I do but several patrons did not. My cash app flagged the transaction with their account as a possible scam & cancelled the transaction. I had to pay via Apple Pay. Android users & other folks were transferring funds to me to pay which was a significant distraction from the party vibes. This also unnerved the birthday girl. I would give Live K another shot sometime in the future, but attention to detail is key especially when you're spending over $800 securing a large VIP room, drinks, & food. read more

I celebrated my birthday at Live K Karaoke at The Wharf and spent over $200 on a private room for 2-3 hours. We ordered food, drinks, and were literally just singing and enjoying ourselves. Instead of simply telling us our time was up or that we were being too loud, management decided to send a POLICE OFFICER to escort us out like we were criminals. What made it even worse was that when the officer walked in, there was a timid staff member standing behind him like they were expecting a group of Black women to argue or become confrontational just because they needed to ask us to leave. The entire approach felt unnecessary, uncomfortable, and honestly biased. I even asked the officer if he was going around to every room asking people to leave, and he claimed he was "making his rounds." Funny enough, once we walked out, he stayed watching us instead of going anywhere else. The entire interaction felt intimidating, unnecessary, and humiliating on my birthday. The officer was combative, rude, and confrontational for absolutely no reason. Please be cautious spending your money here if you expect basic respect from staff. There are plenty of places that know how to communicate with paying customers without involving law enforcement. I'll never return to Live K Karaoke again, especially not for any celebration that actually means something to me. The wings were good though. My first time going to this location and my first time in a private karaoke room and I loved it! We made reservations online for a party of 6 in a small room. Upon walking to the front of the establishment, we were carded, bag-checked and told to proceed inside until the rest of the party arrived. We had the option to extend beyond the 2 hours, but we chose to stay within the allotted time. The interior was dark, but very sleek and classy, it set the mood to sing our hearts out. After entering the room, an employee explained how to search for songs and which button to push for service. They provided a large bottle of water and plastic cups, but also had food and drinks available for ordering. We did hear the music from the next room, but it didn't bother us. The service was terrific and we truly enjoyed ourselves. They do a great job maintaining the rooms, the bathrooms, and just the overall entire place! The room was paid at the beginning, but we received individual checks for our own drink/food purchases. We have the following options when booking the room. -Small room: 10 guests, $68/hr -Medium room: 15 guests, $98/hr -Large room: 20 guests, $128/hr -VIP large room: 25 guests, $168/hr A few things to note: -The price is per hour (with a 2-hour minimum) and based on the room size. There is a DC tax, service fee and gratuity. They did offer to extend our time at an additional cost, but we said no. -There were packaged disposable covers for the microphones, but we didn't see them until halfway through. -There are overhead lights if needed. -They do allow people under age 21; however, the person booking the room must be present for them to enter. There is a bar available to anyone carded in the "lobby"/entrance. There is also an open karaoke stage available...I believe at no cost. There is paid street parking and parking garages near by. I found this place on IG and immediately started planning this experience for hubby and I including our closest friends for a good ole time for our birthday's. I booked online to reserve a small room to accommodate 10-12 guest. Parking is definitely tight so plan to get there at least 15mins early. While we waited we got some drinks at the bar. The room was ready in about 10 mins of our arrival. The food options were great and everyone enjoyed it. We sang so many songs from so many different genres. It was soooo much fun. We were in the room for about 2hrs and we could have definitely stayed longer to continue to sing all of our songs and eat. I will most definitely return for this super fun experience. Let me preface this by saying I usually have a good time here, however...I was there last night and my experience sucked. Our experience at the bar was disappointing. We waited approximately 10 minutes without acknowledgment, while the bartender passed by several times despite the bar not appearing particularly busy. When she did approach, her demeanor was noticeably rude and unprofessional, which further detracted from the experience. A simple acknowledgment or courteous interaction would have made a significant difference, but instead we felt overlooked and unwelcome. We recognize that bartending can be demanding; however, basic attentiveness and professionalism are essential to good service. This experience did not meet those expectations. I went to Live K on a Friday with a group of about 20 friends. Despite booking in advanced for 10:45, I was informed an hour or so before that they'd need to push my reservation back to 11:15. When we arrived, we still had to wait an additional 20 ish minutes. So we weren't let into our room until almost an hour after our original start time. The kitchen was closed by this time so we could only have drinks. The drinks were expensive but really strong. Service was-- ok. I thought the waitress was a bit standoffish. On to the karaoke. There wasn't a huge selection on the actual karaoke machine but luckily you could look up songs on YouTube. You can only add a couple of songs though or it would glitch and skip all the songs in the queue. It was nice to have a private room to perform with my friends. We had dinner prior to coming so we only stuck with drinks. They also give you a warning before your room ends and if there is no reservations you can extend. When pressing the service button it took forever for anyone to come provide service . However I would come back . Renting a private room is cool. I also recommend using the YouTube lyrics because their in house booklet did not have any of the classics such as Janet Jackson for back people . They did ask for an ID however it was quite inappropriate that a female patted down both the men and the women. It should be all men or be careful do the genders because women can touch anything . I liked the digital screens and how its pretty easy to find songs/artists. The best part was that the others could also add songs/adjust order after scanning the QR code. It can be linked to Spotify as well. Our group had a wide music interest from pop, emo rock, rap, kpop, to opera. The music was loud enough and bass was good. Sound insulation was pretty good. We didn't even receive a QR code to scan. * The food order taker took at least 15-20 minutes to take the order. That time is still deducted from room paid time. I asked her 4 times if gratuity was included, but there was no response. I later found out it WAS included. She was tipped twice. NOT COOL. I would surely visit again. We had a medium sized room with 6 people and it was the perfect size for our group (wouldn't recommend the medium for more than 6 or 7 people because we were just perfectly comfortable) The food is a bit pricey, so we opted for dinner elsewhere, but did order the wings which were actually really good, The service was great. First review of 2025! Wish it was better. This is a karaoke spot at the Wharf, now the third karaoke spot in town that offers a communal lounge with private rooms to rent in advance, after Wok and Roll in Chinatown and Muzette in Adams Morgan. I had high hopes, and while they are ok, they are clearly the bottom choice. Bottom line: they have the worst song selection, the worst service, and the highest prices. A triple threat. We booked for 2 hours, which is their minimum for a room. Despite arriving on time, we were given our room 10 minutes late, though as our time started drawing close to the end, we were not offered to stay 10 minutes so we could have the 2 hours we paid for, instead multiple servers came in to give updates as to how much time was left. One main reason for my low review is staff was pretty rude on the whole. Another major issue, though, is their music system. It is horrible, the song selection is embarrassingly bad, forcing you to rely on youtube searches for many if not most of your choices - and youtube may not have karaoke friendly versions with backing vocals or lyrics. Much lower quality systems here compared with the competition. Also, I never thought I'd say this, but after visiting here, I realize I actually like the free tambourines the other guys put in the rooms. Adds to the character of a karaoke spot. I'll end with a positive note. They offer food that is much better than the competition. They have a lot of options, so while we did not have a full meal here, you could if you wanted. We just had truffle fries, and while the picture on the menu didn't suggest this, they were actually waffle fries, and they really hit the spot. If you come, I would recommend trying some snacks. Price is $68 per hour for a small room plus mandatory tax and tip, so for the 2 hour minimum booking, it was roughly $174 with tax and tip (not including food and drink). For comparison, two hours at Wok and Roll with tax and tip costs $104 (for 5 or fewer people), plus they have a much better music system, slightly better drink selections, tambourines, and are literally on top of a metro station. read more

This place is very fun and worth the money. I really liked how big the room size was (My 7 friends had plenty of space in the 10 people room). I also really liked how quick room service is and you pay as you go so everyone can have a separate check. I also like that the karaoke staff is very friendly and I was able to bring in cupcakes and birthday decorations. We were able to find like 95% of the songs we wanted with lyrics. I'm giving 4 stars because I didn't like that the security staff was unnecessarily rude. Their cussing was completely unnecessary, they were rough with my bag and rushing my group of friends. I understand it's cold but it really did not require all the attitude and rough handling. I also didn't like that we didn't get to our room until 10 minutes late. We got the time back in the end but the policy seemed very strict about time and arriving 30 minutes early. We just stood around in the lobby which was annoying. I absolutely love this place. Karaoke club with private rooms. I booked a private room for 2hours, 1 day in advance via online. No issues booking at all. After the time was up in our private room we were able to go to the main room and enjoy karaoke there as well. We were staying at The Wharf so we were able to walk over from our hotel. There is no cover charge and no age limit. However there is a bouncer after hours at the door checking everyone for security reasons. Private room is located behind the main room. You walk back through a neon lit hallway, straight to your private room. Food Once we got to the private room we ordered tons of appetizers. We had wings, fries, eggrolls, mozzarella sticks, and chips and dip. Everything was delicious but nothing extremely spectacular. Service The service was great in the private room. Food came out extremely fast. We had so much fun that I asked to extend the private room, he so no, that the next block was already booked. Afterwards we went to the main room and had a ball. Ambiance Fairly younger college crowd. The decor was hip with a party like vibe with lots of neon lights and tv screens. Main room was full of people and a bar as well. My friends and I popped in on a random Saturday night and it would be hours before we could get a private room for 8 of us. We ended up just enjoying the bar area which actually wasn't that bad. They allow you to sing your heart out in this area and it was really fun. We were singing Avril Levigne one minute and then Fantasia the next minute lol. I thought the drink selection and food options were decent. Most of their items are fried. Very disappointing visit to Live K this past Saturday (2/21). My friends and I decided to hang at the lobby bar and enjoy karaoke with everyone. Started out fun but quickly there was one group of ladies who decided it was somehow their private room, taking the mic from others who wanted to sing and making sure their songs were always first in line. Eventually after I added a couple songs to the queue, I saw one lady in the group actually open up the list and delete every songs but her's. I asked the bartender and security guard why they were letting this happen and they had no answers. It seemed to me the staff were friends with the group and didn't care/were encouraging the behavior. My group along with another large group immediately left after that. So now something that should have been a fun night out for everyone was hijacked by one group who seemed to be "in cahoots" with the folks were supposed to be keeping the place in order. We tried the chicken wings and truffle fries - all sauces come on the side and not on the wings. Those were fine. We didn't hear good remarks about the other food that was ordered. The service was decent. Even though we didn't really get a walk-through of how to use the screen in the room for the song choices, we figured it out. There are soooo many private rooms that are nice and spacious. The crowd here was mixed, which allowed for an array of music selections and versatility of music performances. There were two microphones that were located to the front area of the bar with a big screen that allowed the lyrics of the selected song to be visible to most. First time here and it was a lot of fun. There's a bouncer at the door but at 5:30pm, he didn't check our IDs. The interior was LOUD, but it's a music venue so it's expected. We had a small room that accommodates 10 people (we were 7 adults, and 10 seems like it would be a bit tight). We were shown how to use the machine and told when our time would be up. They don't waste time with cleanup and removing dishes and asking you to promptly leave at your end time. There are no clocks inside so gauge your own time. The karaoke machine was easy to use and select songs. There were two microphones. The music videos were a blend of authentic and stock videos or spliced content from the artist. The tables had menus for food and beverages. The service was very good, consistent, punctual, and helpful. Food came out quickly, served hot and fresh, and was a decent portion. I stood there for over 3 minutes with no acknowledgment as she was doing something on the tablet that they have. After a few moments another lady came from around the corner to assist me. I did not try any food or drink but a few people in our party ordered food and they said it was okay. We did order a bottle which came out with a sign and lights which was very cute. The Karaoke machine can search for newer songs but does not show the lyrics for them. They definitely need a system upgrade. Now for what I did not like, some of the staff are EXTREMELY RUDE. We booked a 2 hour reservation and at the end we tried to extend it , which if there is a party behind us is understandable if you can't. The waiter chose to get into a verbal altercation with my friend while she was simply asking questions regarding the reservation. What I did not appreciate was once our time was almost up the staff barged in the room turned on the lights, held the door open and said "okay you need to leave." No "thank you for your business", or "please come again", they simply kicked us out. Not sure if I will return to this location. read more

New karaoke place on the Wharf. If you are looking for a fancier version than the other places in DC and don't mind spending more money, then go here. When you walk in there is a bouncer checking IDs and they patted the guys down in our group. There is karaoke in the common area and a bar. This area is loud with people singing and dancing. It's fun to stay here but a bit cramped if busy. Drinks are expensive, 2 high noons cost $26. We had a private room reservation for 9pm and got there early and checked in. They told our group to wait. At 9pm, we checked again and they told us to wait. We got into the room at 9:10pm. Then when our 2 hours was up, they told us that we were the ones who were late..They kept coming in trying to rush us our, which I see happened to other reviewers as well. read more

When I tell you, WE had the time of our lives?! Well we did! My son was newly engaged and we had the chance to party! We had chicken wings and the service was amazing! We snag ALL NIGHT LONG! Great time! Now...the service is timed, the service is pretty quick and the downside is, the instructions aren't very clear but we got it after about 30 mins in. This place is AWESOME! Went to the soft opening last night and cannot say enough positive things about the new addition to The Wharf scene. Just a few highlights: - Excellent Staff. From the gifted bartenders (all great- special shout-out to Johannes, who made me the best drink of my life!) to the attentive wait staff to the customer-oriented management... all simply top-notch. - Incredible Entertainment. Wavy Tim (@wavytim) sooooo lit on the mic... DJ Chef Jaker (@djchefjaker) working the crowd all night... diverse, hyped crowd... many people singing and everyone dancing/joining in... just an amazing vibe that lasted all night. Best time- you'll catch some of the vibe in my pics/videos. :) - Amazing Atmosphere. Constant light show, great decor, good sound equipment... perfection. - Very Safe. Professional security that was made sure everyone was comfortable. There were a few small issues (an overly intoxicated person and someone harassing women) and they were resolved quickly and calmly. Really appreciated how he deescalated the situation. This is a good spot for women to come and feel safe. - Great Drinks/Food. Tried several different drinks and loved all of them. The staff were nice, but everything else left much to be desired. Save your time and money and go somewhere else. The music selection was awful - so many classic karaoke songs were missing, and many songs defaulted to YouTube with the singers vocals in the background. Much of the selection was not in English, though this is not advertised. There is a massive undisclosed service charge on booking a private room, and all transactions are still charged with automatic gratuity. Also, be prepared to be frisked by the most intense security you've ever experienced. read more

The one star is for the staff. Their system had almost none of my go to songs. There was no Chappell Roan at all. There was only one Dolly Parton song. Did you want to sing classics from your favorite musical? Too bad! What about the sing along classic, Wagon Wheel? Think again. Do yourself a favor, save your money and time, go to any number of the better, more affordable karaoke places in the area. If you do decide to venture to this place, be prepared for TSA level frisking to get in the door. read more

Super duper fun! Back in early August, my friends and I visited Live K Karaoke as part of a bachelorette weekend celebration. We found Live K from on a simple Google search and then a review of their Instagram page. One of the ladies in our group made the reservation online about a month in advance. I'm not sure if that much time is required but it's what we did. On the evening of our reservation, we went thru security then found the customer service desk and checked in. Within minutes, we were escorted to a personal room. Live K is very lively and modern. You have the flexibility to book a private room or enjoy the main area. The main room features a full bar, lots of LED lights, and a great mix of music. There is a huge screen on one side of the room where folks can make a request for songs and then sing in front of the crowd. It was quite packed by the way. Don't expect to sit down if you don't find a seat at the bar. The crowd was a vibe though! Everyone enjoying themselves and singing along with whatever song played. The age range seems to be between 21 to 55 years old, all enjoying themselves in harmony. Upon entering our room, our server introduced himself, provided menus, and gave us an orientation on how to navigate the karaoke system. Our reservation covered a small room for 2 hours. We had room K13. It was about 8 of us and we were able to sit comfortably. The room has a comfy plush couch and dining table. There were some outlets around, so were could charge up our phone or other electronics. It was a hot evening but it seemed cool in the room and there was a fan available. There is a large flat screen TV at the front of the room. The setup allows you to read the words from that screen as a group or individually. There is also a medium sized TV above the couch, you can read the words from there while you stand in front our your party, which makes it feel like a real performance. In regards to the karaoke system, they have placed it in corner space of the room, almost like a station because everything you need is there including multiple cordless mics, a computer to make selections, and a fun wheel game (we did not use it). There seems to be an actual karaoke program to choose songs from or you can go onto Youtube. The youtube option was great and more familiar, but the system was wonky. We would cue a selection but when it was time to play, the system would skip it over. At times we had to add the song twice. Once for it to skip over and then play the second cue. Not sure why that happened but we made it work. Over the 2 hours we sang numerous songs, ordered a host of drinks and food and just enjoyed our time. It felt like a personalized party room. The sound system was great and the light effects enhanced the experience. On top of that, we had free range to be as loud and fun as we wanted to be. In terms of the food, I only had truffle french fries and a soft drink, both were good and reminiscent of elevated bar food. The overall menu itself seemed to be a fusion of American and Asian cuisine. They offer snacks as well as small portions and entree servings along with bar drinks and cocktails. Our server was kind and attentive. He always checked in and provided our requests within a timely manner. Once the time was up, he gave us the option to extend or leave the room. We decided to see what the main room was about. As mentioned earlier, the main room features a full bar and a space to perform. It was rather crowded, so it felt more like a party in a bar. People would order a song then go up and sing. Most of the selections were Rap/Hip-Hop and R&B. Everyone would chime in and sing the song like drunk cousins lol. Sounds crazy but it was fun. Please note, there might be a long cue before they get to your song, so hang tight and drink up. Eventually we decided to leave as we were tired, so one of my friends missed her opportunity to sing because the cue was long. Above all, we had a great time. Live K Karaoke gave us the experience we had hope for and the bride enjoyed herself immensely. I'd definitely return and I highly recommend to others. read more
