Bouncers were thirsty for action; another individual who was under 21 was accused of attempting to wash marks off her hand despite the marks clearly still being present. When we tried speaking to employees, we were told they sent people into the bathroom to spy on individuals in our party. Nobody was in the bathroom with the person accused of washing her hands. A friend who was under 21 was stamped as over 21 despite having shown an under-21 ID. They threw our entire party out without a refund even though we had been there for less than 5 minutes. read more

We went here for my brothers 21st birthday. He was kicked out because he was rubbing his eyes. Its spring and he has allergies. He wasn't allowed to inform the rest of us and asked if the employee could let us know. He said know and was forceful. This is my second bad experience with Live and I was so excited to give it a shot. There is no way I will return. First of all, let me point out that I am not really into the club scene. You'd be more likely to find me at the bar of a brewery rather then hitting the club hot spots of a downtown. I have numerous girl friends who love to dance/drink on Saturday night & I usually can talk my way out of going, but I am glad my friends have insisted we frequent this place. Yes, there is a cover charge at the door ($ 5), which did bum me out at first. However, you get what you pay for. There is a high level of security guards on the inside. As a woman I can appreciate feeling safe. I've never witnessed anything get out of hand there, but I'm guessing thats the preventative measure they have put in place. Also you're going to pay cover at most clubs in Ann Arbor. They have an abundance of bartenders, I've never waited more than 5 min for a drink. The bar is stocked with beer and liquor (I've never tried to order wine there so I'm not sure if they have it). Also, I'd say the bartenders are spot on. I found a drink recipe that i LOVE and swear by if i'm going to consume liquor at all. The bartender actually made the drink in front of me and after I took my first sip asked me if that was indeed what i wanted. He would have started over from scratch if need be. That hand made beverage cost me $8 which in my opinion is decently priced. You would pay a similar price if you went to Last Word or Black Pearl for a cocktail. I was super impressed by that. The music playing that night was great. I love that they have throwback songs, and they also mix hiphop, pop and electronica quite nicely. I always get a good work out because I don't want to leave the dance floor. The vibe there is definitely a club scene, however, I see people from all social groups in there. One complaint I've read from a few other reviewers is that they hate the location and presence of the bar. Its quite close to the first booth area of the place. However, the further you walk in the establishment = the more booths, tables and other seating is available away from the bar. Also there are other service bars around the corner, so you just have to walk around the first bar.= to find them (and they are not close to any tables). Honestly, you really have to take a lap around the place to see its size. They also have a stage with a live DJ spinning music. Every time I go its always packed. They are open Thursday, Friday & Saturdays 9pm-2am (I would check their website for full hours - they are sometimes open other days). Getting there has never been a problem either. Its nearby a parking garage (which you can park in for free after 11pm as long as you get your car out before 4am). There is also free parking at the metered spots on streets of Ann Arbor after 6pm. If you walk in with a coat you can check it for $2. Now for a few cons: this place gets wicked hot in the summer when the crowd gets going. If you are in the back near VIP booths then you should stay hydrated. I could see it being like a sauna. No one with a background history of epilepsy can party here. I mean actually you probably can't go to any nightclubs for fear of lighting induced seizures. The bathrooms are on the second floor. Thats not really a "con"per se but maybe if you are in heels you wouldn't like it? They are clean and always have toilet paper in them when Ive gone (which is SO appreciated by any woman). LIVE tends to fill capacity quickly. Not so much when the students are out of town for the summer but I have definitely waited outside before to get in. I also did the dumb girl thing where you don't want to hold onto your coat in the winter time, so you don't bring one, and then freeze outside in line. Well, thats my fault really. I think I mentioned a lot of pros above so I will not rehash that. I didn't mention above but appreciate that you don't have to be in a dress and heels to get in. Don't get me wrong, a lot of women are dressed up in here, but I am not a frilly girl. I prefer jeans and a cute tank top. Sometimes paired with heels or flats. Just don't wear sweats or cut offs at LIVE or any other establishment on the planet. I obviously recommend it over other clubs in Ann Arbor. I do hope you found this review helpful. read more

I went for my friend's birthday, we reserved the back VIP area and had bottle service. It was fun, stupid dancing. Way more sophisticated then the old "LIVE at PJ's". They really improved the space and cocktails. Probably the best place to dance in Ann Arbor without getting tetanus. read more

Great layout and good potential. However, the DJ kept playing unknown hip hop songs. Anytime anyone tried to request a dance song, his entourage (yes, he had an entourage) shook their heads to say "no, he doesn't take requests." The dancing just got pretty lame after midnight. We were here last Saturday around midnight. There was a short line to get in, but it didn't seem like too big of a deal and after a few obnoxious people cut in front of us, we were in within 15minutes. Once we got in and paid a $$5 cover each, though, was when it all went downhill. There was not an inch to dance, much less to move! All I remember in the 20 minutes we took to get from the front door to the dance floor was sweaty bodies, spilling drinks, and a lack of ability to breathe. There was also absolutely no room anywhere close to the bar. 40 minutes later, we were out the door, sadly. Almost certain the bouncers had no idea how to control crowds and were violating fire codes and other safety regs. read more

Man, live was the best, Kevin was the worst. The worst. Ever. This was my first time at live, and I went for my closest friends bacchelorette party. The first hour, I couldn't have been happier. The best music, the best bartenders, the best time. The bartenders especially, they were the best. Then came the moment that some lady invited my friend (the bachelorette) on stage. Stoked! We all follow, ready for an epic night. Halfway through our party of five, Kevin the bouncer decides our quota on stage is full and literally blocks two of our members from coming on stage. Ok, stage full, I get it. We wait a while, then try to get back with our party on stage, only to get literally shoved off without any sort of consideration whatsoever. I try to talk to him, I get shoved off again. It's important to note, im not drinking at this point. I try to explain. We just want to celebrate with our friend.he doesn't even try to listen. Its loud, for sure, but the look in his eye tells me kevin is not shoving us off stage because he doesnt understand me. He is shoving us off because hes decided we dont belong up there.... Admitedly, I call Kevin a dick, at which point he gets angrier (my bad) and shoves me off stage, (shove is not an exaggeration). My friend takes the higher road and does not call him anything but still doesn't understand why shes not up along with my friend, a third time. Man, this guy is the worst! I tried at least four times to talk sir kevin into at least bringing us up on stage for a moment for a cheers. It doesnt happen. I find my remaining friends, finally. I realize that guy has single handedly put a damper on this otherwise uneventful night, and I get pissed. I find out kevins name. We go home. Everything is fine. Except I can't shake this anger towards Kevin. I get it kevin. You've got a hard job. Drunk, terrible people left and right. Ive worked in service with drunk people, too. But seriously, please try and be a little kinder in your role as a bouncer. You are forceful and mean, and Single handedly, you've made it such that I won't be visiting live again. Ever. Which is sad, because I had fun otherwise. Live, you should really lose kevin. Unapologetically I say, he's a jerk. read more

Great drinks, DJ and dance music! Packed, fun dance floor last night with a diverse crowd all having A LOT of fun. If you don't have a fun time here, it's because you aren't a fun person. Can't believe some of the stupid reviews people have written about this place. This is A2, not a lot of dance options so be happy with this one and support LIVE! Yes, there's a 5 buck cover, it's a business, they are here to make money and lots of people aren't buying their drinks there so this is how they pay the bills, charge a cover! It's a very reasonable cover people! Place isn't that big, which makes it even better for keeping track of your friends that might just be a little drunk so in case one falls down you can help them get back up and dance it off! Bartenders / drinks were great at both bars and the bouncer / doorman kept the line moving. This was my first time at LIVE, I recently moved to A2, I'll be back!!! read more
