Lo-Fi is a cool little spot to grab some cocktails and do some dancing! The dj was playing some top 100, the place was jam packed with college kids looking to let loose on the weekend. There are plenty of cozy seats for those needing to take a break. The atmosphere is fun, upbeat, and inviting.

Accidentally bumped into this cool place while we wanted to go to Nightcap. If was Friday night around 1ish am and we were having trouble to locate nightcap since we are very new to this town. We saw a man entering through a door with a lot of music. So we guessed it could be night cap. After entering, the place didn't look as a chic lounge as we thought it would be , since we were still thinking it's nightcap. However, we settle for a drink and were enjoying the vibe of the place. We got strawberry Moscow mule and a regular Moscow mule, both were not the best but okay. The thing that hooked us to this place was the great music. The DJ was fantastic. Even though not sure of where we were, we stayed back for the music. Finally around 2am, we headed back and talked with the bouncer on the door who said us that nightcap is on the floor above. But, we are glad we stepped on to Lo-Fi. What a delightful find - a true serendipity.

Been here twice for special events/concerts and it's FANTASTIC. It's the downstairs bar by the same owners of Night Cap and it still has same commitment to quality and style but more suited for mixing, mingling and dancing. The decor inside is amazing (love that neon dragon!), the drinks are excellent, and the vibe is fun. The space isn't HUGE so concerts are intimate and the DJ sets open up the floor for great dancing and merriment. But if you want something more low key, head up stairs to the excellent Night Cap. No matter what you're feeling you can find it here.

Alright so me and my friend decided on this place after trying out two clubs in ann arbor and not really liking either one of them. When we got here, the bouncer was super cool but he made it seem like it was soooo busy and we waited outside in line for probably 15 mins. However when we finally got in, the place was dead! I mean, there was maybe 15 people on the dance floor and the bar area had about the same amount. The DJ also played horrible music (backstreet boys, nsync, etc). and at around 1:30, he played some slow song and the whole dance floor left lol. The bartender made the drinks STRONG here too which ended up being a nightmare for my friend lol. Needless to say, I would not go back here unless they had a different DJ.

I came here with some friends on opening night and we really enjoyed ourselves. We weren't here very long as we did eventually go upstairs to go get drinks at Nightcap, but I'll run down my experience. The first thing I noticed was the all the neon lights. It's very flashy with bright colors all over. I LOVED the neon dragon, because who doesn't like dragons. Reminded me of Mushu from the movie Mulan lol. There is a dance floor, but what is really interesting was the music the DJ was playing. It was majorly Motown( which I love). Not the usual music you hear at your average club. I'm not entirely sure it the music changes genres as the night goes on, or if this is strictly a club/basement bar that plays oldies. In comparison to Night Cap, Lo-Fi gives you plenty more room, dance floor and more causal vibe. I'll have to check it out again to have a more full experience but it fun for what it was.

I really really dig the vibes of Lo-Fi. I've been here a handful of times and have always had a good time. The nights I've come have not been too busy, but there were still plenty of people having fun. The DJs they get are super cool too. I can't help but want to dance around when they start playing smooth grooves from the 90s!!! It's just a fun place to be. Drink prices are competitive with other local spots and honestly a little bit cheaper and tasty. If I lived closer to Ann Arbor this would be my go to spot! Friday and Saturday would be the best nights to come down and see what they're about. I recommend getting a group of friends/family together and bar hopping in Ann Arbor, then obviously stopping into Lo-Fi for some great music and a chill ambiance.

My shot of tequila and the bar light .

I have only been once, but I plan on coming again! They had a great atmosphere, but I would suggest playing some upbeat music sometimes. :)

Many bars and restaurants nearby if you want a drink or snack before or after your show. Entry was easy as I had tickets on my phone. I purchased general admission tickets. They do have reserved seats available at a higher price point. How GA works is you get there and the attendants tell you to sit anywhere that isn't reserved. The earlier you get there, the better seat selection you'll have. We sat at the stage for one of my favorite bands. You have a little table and chairs (either two or four). It was so intimate and cozy. I loved it. The temperature was perfect. Not freezing from AC, but not muggy. Very comfortable. Sound was excellent and electrical worked perfectly for this show. They do have drinks for sale, but I didn't have anything. Other reviews mention paying low membership dues and then you can buy alcoholic drinks. They have water and cups available too. Really great experience and can't wait to go back!

Sure, it sucks that that new management came in a few years ago and painted over a lot of the old scribblings. The place has luckily regained more posters & records covers, etc. to adorn the walls. You know what? The kids here are still kinda the same -- at least in all of the important ways. When I played a show here a coupla years ago, I met a super-cool gal who reminded me of a reflection of myself at 19 or 20 -- into poetry and rock and roll. We chatted about X, and I knew that the Halfass was in good hands of this next generation. This is where I ate many greasy pounds of tempeh and curly fries in school. It's also where I poured my broken 19-yr old heart out to friends working behind the counter, then used my meal card to buy and down an entire pint of Ben & Jerry's. Not too much later, I got to do my laundry (the washers were right on the other side of the wall) while watching Low. Throughout the years the EQMC consistently brings in great bands -- both local and touring. They also provided a home for the first few ever Bang! dance parties. I first spotted my current sweetheart here. I brought him along to a show here to get the official stamp of approval from a best friend while seeing Saturday Looks Good to Me. Who knows -- without the trifecta of the Halfass, the Pirate House (RIP), and the downtown A2 Kinko's, my life may have taken a very different course. But thankfully, the Halfass was and remains there -- providing delicious greasy-ass food, pretty reliably great people, and a little incubator for musicians and students with plenty of all-ages shows.

It's nice to have some of the Detroit bands out in ann arbor, but if you have a car, it's nothing you couldn't see every week in Detroit or Ypsilanti.

My first experience there happened to be a photo shoot that my friend Sarah did for her Alter Ego exhibition. I was very impressed by the studio space -- it was very roomy. Another section had interesting tye dyed shirts? My friend Paul's spot had some equipment for music, and it was actually his band that I got to see perform later on in that space. It was very nice, you'll see familiar faces around town. It's non-smoking, but that's ok because the porch is a very cozy place to light one. There is only one small bathroom, which is definitely a bummer, but I can deal considering the opportunities Yellow Barn affords for the talented go-getters in this town.

Yes, many restaurants around have performers but there's something different about this kind of spot. The performers are not an afterthought. They're the focus and why people are there and the enjoying of music is a communal experience. North Star Lounge scratches that itch I have for a venue like that here in Ann Arbor. A friend of ours was playing a show here which made my first visit even more enjoyable and special. As a music venue this place is small but not uncomfortable in the slightest. It's what one might call, "intimate." For the show they had set out some rows of chairs but there were several tables and booths if you prefered to have a little more space or would like to eat while you watch the show. They have a limited menu for food and it's prepared at Detroit Filling Station next door (also NSL's owners) which means it's vegan and also delicious. It was a cold evening so went with comfort food and ordered the mac and cheese, which was as excellent as when I've ordered it from DFS. They have a nice cocktail/beer/wine menu but also a substantial NA/Mocktail selection. I've pumped the breaks on alcohol recently so I went with a hot tea to warm up and a mocktail with some muddled fruit and mint (the drinks are seasonal so the menu from that time is no longer posted for me to recall the name but it was very good). Good tunes, good food, good drinks, friendly folks. What else could you need? Check out their calendar of events now and plan your visit!
