Kaya kouign amann. Kaya=coconut and pandan cream
    Christina R.

Kaya Kouign AMANN- 4* buttery and sweet treat with a creamy green center made from coconut milk, eggs and pandan- which gives it a nutty vanilla like fragrance as well as its verdant shade. The texture was different from typical kouign amann- it ate more like a doughnut than the flaky layered crispy confections I've had. But the flavor was very rich- it's hard to go wrong with butter and sugar. I tried a couple of their other pastries- including their milk bread. All were delicious, with a perfect level of sweetness. The ambience is lovely and a bit bougie. Meant for couples and to go orders. The banquette seating on the wall had a row of the tiniest cafe tables the size of dinner plates that were not suited for more than 2 people. We were lucky to get their only window booth seat which seats 4. A tiny metal place holder states that they would appreciate it if clients occupy the table for no more than an hour to support their business and ensure turnover. Beware, the line will be very long if you go at noon and it lasted well after we left around 1:00pm. Also, parking on Adams Ave is now metered, except on Sundays and holidays. There is no dedicated lot of this cafe so if you can walk, I recommend it. Service was exceptionally good- staff was decked out in chic Hedley and Bennett custom embroidered aprons and spent a great deal of time ensuring we were happy with our orders and were able to place additional orders even once we were seated. The waitstaff was exceptionally knowledgeable about the source of the pastries- a commercial kitchen shared by Pot Pie Co in Mission Valley. One of the owners adds a touch of their native Filipino flavors to the menu including the Kaya cream I mentioned. Overall, we had a great time, and will be back for pastries and beverages but not with any more than 2 people.

Usually when I walk in this area I expect the massive line to be for An's dry cleaning but I hadn't realized that this coffee shop was the reason so many new people were in line. After looking it over I decided to give it a shot to see what the hype was about. The shop is aesthetic with nice indoor lighting as well as seating which were all full when I got inside. I wasn't sure what to order but the cashier was nice enough to recommend me the pandan earl grey latte. They also serve matcha and had a variety of beautiful pastries that I wish I ordered but decided against. After trying the coffee outside I will say that the coffee taste is potent but unfortunately I feel like the pandan/earl grey flavor was extremely light. It was still a tasty coffee but the other flavors didn't come through for me. Maybe it was just an off order but I don't think I'd order that same drink again. If I were to come back I would try the pastries/other flavors instead!

Finally came to the much shared new coffee place on social media. I decided to order a drink from the seasonal specials menu. Opted for the Cherry Yuzilla as it sounded different yet refreshing. It didn't taste how I had hoped for. Was hoping for a more present cherry flavor, but I feel it was more on the citrus side. The flavors didn't combine well with the cold brew in my opinion. The service was great and the cafe decor is Instagram worthy. Will come back to try coffee from the regular menu.

I was so excited to try Little While and see if it is worth the hype. I can gladly confirm that both the latte ams the pastry were AMAZING! I tried the iced early grey pandan and it was not too sweet, the flavors of early grey & pandan both stood out but blended well together. The Kaya kouign samman was probably the best pastry I've ever had! It was soft, fluffy, and the flavors just melted in your mouth. They did have a line out the door when i arrived on a Wednesday morning but i probably only wait 20 minutes total from the time i got in line, till the time i received my order. Every seat was packed inside as well but by the time my order was ready someone else was leaving so a table opened up. It wouldn't be the best place to work from home or sit comfortably to catch up with a friend, but it is definitely quality coffee and amazing unique pastries.

Came here last month on a random Thursday, after lunch for some coffee & pastries. Luckily, we beat the rush when we came in because a few minutes later, the line was out the door! We only waited a little over 5 mins for our order, so not bad at all! We ordered the pandan earl grey latte & the salted maple latte, both iced. We liked both but if I had to recommend one, I'd pick the pandan earl grey as it's more unique and isn't as widely offered at other cafes. A variety of pastries available including banana cream-filled concha, croissants (guava cream cheese, almond, French onion, ham & cheese), etc. I chose the guava cream cheese croissant per the cashier's recommendation, and I enjoyed it as well! It was a guava jam mixed with cream cheese on a flaky croissant. Friendly staff. Nice interior design with light wood accents. Somewhat limited seating with just 1 row of bench seating & a few tables by the windows. We got our order to-go, so other people could sit. They also sold merch (hats, cups, mugs, t-shirts, kettles), coffee, and matcha. Would definitely come back here again!

This is a great little new spot on Adams Avenue. I went here during the soft opening and they were out of pastries. I am glad I went back because they were delicious. We had a banana cream concha and a chocolate almond croissant. The presentation was very pretty as well. There was a bit of line when I got there around 10:00 on a Saturday. It went pretty quickly and I felt like the pastries were worth it. They also have several creative coffee drinks. They don't charge extra for oat milk alternative.

Off the bat, I love that this place offers a slow bar. I'm huge on pourover and light roasted coffee so this is really up my alley. Wanted something a little stronger so I ordered the 1 and 1 with their house blend. Espresso was pulled right and tasted excellent in the cortado. My friend ordered the Edwin Noreña carbonic honey peach co-ferment Pourover. I tasted it-not my thing, but he loved it. We'll be back! Great service and definitely a cozy place to chill on a Friday afternoon.

Everything pull-apart and kaya kouign amman

Came early on a weekday and it wasn't too busy. There was no line to order and ample pastries and seating available. -Matcha latte with little cloud (4/5): added a vanilla cream top which wasn't super sweet or strong, matcha was light and not strong enough -LW matcha latte (3/5): pretty watery, didn't really like the coconut flavor, but it was light and not too sweet -Everything pull-apart (4.5/5): nicely seasoned and not too salty, came with cream cheese dip, slightly crispy on the edges and soft and fluffy on the inside, wished it was a bit crispier -Kaya kouign amman (4/5): nicely caramelized and crispy, a good amount of sweetness and kaya jam inside Super cute and modern inside with a small amount of tables. It did fill up quickly and there constantly was a line forming. Service was friendly, pretty quick and checked on us. I wouldn't get their matcha again but would come back to try their other pastries and coffee!

    Matcha latte and LW matcha
    Allison L.

Heard good things so I stopped by on an early weekday morning and it wasn't too busy. Found metered parking out front. Matcha latte with little cloud (4/5): added their vanilla cream top onto the matcha, the cloud was yummy but the matcha itself isn't that strong and tasted a bit milky LW matcha (3/5): the coconut flavor wasn't for me, but it was light and refreshing Everything pull apart (4.5/5): I really liked this one, and it came with a cream cheese dip! I wish it was slightly more crispy Kaya Kouign Amann (4/5): nice flavor and a good sweetness, but it was crunchier than I'd like it I wouldn't come back for their matcha but their pastries were good and coffee looks yummy! Staff were friendly and checked on us to see how we were doing which was nice. There were constantly people coming in and out, but there was still some seating available. The interior is so cute and cozy, but I can see how they'd be packed on the weekend

Terrific new coffee spot with great drinks and pastries, from the creator's of Stella Jean's and Pop Pie Co. I had this bookmarked for our latest SD visit and it was well worth the stop. There are a few seats outside with more inside. We got there before there was a long line. The menu offers up espresso drinks, pourovers, seasonal drinks, as well as matcha, Thai tea, and chai. The pastry selections looked delicious; I wanted one of everything. I had the Ube Leche Flan pastry (masarap!) and a Honey Cinnamon Latte. Both were great and it was so nice to be able to sit inside and enjoy them without rushing. This is a terrific addition to our list of coffee places to visit when we're in town.

New hot spot and I had to check it out! Even at 8:30am on a Saturday the place was busy with people inside seated and waiting in line, I decided to order the salted maple latte and the honey toast in the pastry box was calling my name The honey toast was so so good and definitely the star of my visit the latte was good but not as flavorful as I would have liked, I saw someone receive their matcha and the color alone will guarantee I come back to try it! The ambience is nice and I can see this being a great addition to the neighborhood!

    Elizabeth A.

I loved both my Earl grey pandan latte and their seasonal Japanese curry pastry! I got here early on a weekday where I was able to beat the line and get a seat. It definitely stayed busy for most of the morning so get here early because they run out of pastries by 11. I really liked the unique flavor of the pandan but I didn't get too much earl grey flavor which was slightly disappointing but still so delicious! The pastry was soooo flaky and crispy that each bite was a textural and flavor explosion! I am eager to try their other flavors as they tend to rotate some of the seasonal offerings. The French onion soup pastry is what I'm eyeing next time!! Love this great addition to the neighborhood!!

Little While is now open in SD and is one of the most poppin cafes in the city right now for a good reason. This spot is located in the North Park neighborhood where street parking will be your best bet. Wifey and I arrived around 10am and there was a short line out the door. Inside, they have a clean and minimalist setup with a solid amount of seating. For their menu, they have a unique selection of coffee, matcha, and pastries to choose from. We ended up getting a Ube Flan Pastry and a Matcha Coconut Water. All of the staff here are very friendly and welcoming. Definitely stop by to see what all the hype is about for yourself!

Tried a mix of savory and sweet: the Curry Pan was good but didn't totally wow me, while the chocolate, strawberry ribbon, and matcha croissants were all really solid -- especially because they weren't overly sweet. The surprise favorite was the caviar bread: salty, fishy, briny topping on crusty bread that somehow just worked SO well. We also split a croque monsieur which was warm, cheesy, and perfect to balance out all the pastries. I wish they had real cutlery (vs only plastic disposables) for dine in customers. Our family shared all these goodies and a plastic knife was no match for some of them. Overall, really good quality pastries and breads, worth the early lineup. I'd definitely come back to try the sandos (served started 11:30)

For example, some other specialty bakeries/shops are charging similar prices for cakes and cheesecakes that are much simpler. In comparison, Extraordinary Dessert cakes take 3-4 days to make, have 6-8 alternating layers, and are typically adorned with edible gold and/or flowers. The key is to find which items you like and which are okay to pass on next time. What we ried this time: -Match Misu Cake (7/10): ricotta cake layers soaked in matcha and layered with marscapone whipped cream. This one was pretty good and ranks in my middle to high range. I only wish there was more matcha flavor (maybe if you dine in and get the sauce, this would help) or the matcha was paired with another flavor ... either go fruity (maybe a raspberry sauce, strawberry pieces, white peach pieces, or like a peach oolong cream layer) or go chocolately/coffee (maybe had some crushed up chocolate covered espresso beans). My go to's: -Ivoire Royale (10/10) - my ultimate favorite still. If you like light desserts, white chocolate, berries, and moist vanilla cake, thus one is for you. Classy and unpretentious -Shangrila (10/10) - my other favorite and will make you feel like a princess with all the pink chocolate curls. A little bit adventurous and innocently elegant. Ones to skip: -Au Chocolate / La Bete Noire / Dame Chocolate - get the Viking instead. That's my favorite of all their chocolate cakes -Lemon ricotta - get the Passionfruit Ricotta instead -Torta misu - the matcha misu is better. The tortilla misuse made me want a regular piece of tirmaisu than a cake version -Coconut cream - not bad, not amazing though

Lines are always better with a friend and even though we all arrived before opening there was still a healthy line. I was really excited, to finally get to check them out, I saw on their socials that a new chef had taken residency and that they came with some Filipino flair. As a fellow Filipino I definitely wanted to support. I ended up ordering a lumpia roll, ube butter ensaymada, a halo halo tart and a egg sando sandwich along with an iced matcha with honey, with tip my total was $48, which isn't horrible considering these are meant to be higher quality pastries. My girlfriends and I found a table and decided we would share, I shared my egg sando sandwich and the lumpia roll, while they shared their ube butter ensaymada and the turon kouign amann. My matcha, was a horrible, it was a muddy green and really lacked any matcha flavor, my friend didn't like her matcha either and she had the miso caramel matcha. I didn't even finish my matcha and I can really take one down. We joked about how we should have opted for the orange juice instead. Now for the pastries, I was really underwhelmed by them, the ensaymada was just fine, I honestly cannot remember the taste of it, it lacked something. The egg sando sandwich, the filling was plentiful and flavorful BUT the bread was dry, was that potato bread? The texture was off for me and I ended up just scooping out the filling and eating it like that. Where the sando had a good amount of filling the lumpia roll lacked it, it was so sparse I figured it would be more like a sausage roll so I was taken aback by how little there was in it. Flavors were fine, the pastry was buttery but I just wanted a little more. The one pastry we agreed was better than the rest was the turon kouign amann, the crunchy bits of sugar was so reminiscent of turon but the filling, for me was like uncooked banana bread batter, that threw me off entirely. It was better, but not the filling. So overall, I would say it was okay, I guess for the costs it just didn't meet my expectations.

This review is for the rolled banana croissant . Every time I visit I always order the rolled banana croissant and it never disappoints!!! The round croissant is cut in half, piped with delicious cream that is perfectly sweet that goes so well with the caramel sauce and bananas, perfect combo! If the bakery reads this review, it would be even better if there were a few more banana slices inside or caramelized banana on top, IMO. One more thing, it would be awesome if you opened on weekends. Today I ordered the banana and creme brulee rolled croissant and the banana was better. I was the only customer so ordering was simple. There are 3 tables in the store and a few outside the store. I'll be back when I have another sweet craving.

I was worried about…read moremy meter running out and was asking if i could run out real quick to add more but they coordinated on the spot and finishes my drink by the time i completed my payment. They were amazing!!! I got the biscoff matcha latte with the biscoff foam and a few slices of cake. It was soooo good. I'm going try to plan for some relaxing time next time. The inside was beautiful and peaceful. Looks like a great place to start my day.

Hinar in downtown is such a beautiful and aesthetic spot. I love their earthy color palette (I want…read morethat paint color in my house lol) and the overall vibe of the cafe. The main seating area is almost always full, but there's more indoor seating in the back through the hallway (where the bathroom is), plus some outdoor seating to the side. The drinks are really good. I always get mine half sweet, and the flavors are consistently great. They also have a ton of cute, picturesque desserts. They're a bit too sweet for my taste, but you can tell a lot of care goes into making them and they're definitely tasty. Parking can be tricky downtown, and it can get busy with lines, but it's totally worth it for the drinks, desserts, and overall ambiance. FYI, they have a new location up north in Scrips Poway, it's cute but slightly different aesthetic (umm more industrial) and is in a strip mall, so, way more parking!
