This was an interesting experience because I had heard about it and was intrigued by their brunch more than the dinner but I went for the dinner option because "why not?" Now, I must say if you are familiar with Asian cuisine - you'll find none of the particular dishes particularly innovative or mind blowing. For me, all of their dishes were okay. Definitely, more expensive than any of the venues I've had similar dishes. So why go? The architecture and atmosphere is on point for the area. Very similar to Sara if you've been there. The mocktails were a little unusual. It had a more medicinal flavour and ordering more was not really encouraging. They have a speakeasy down below so my guess is that would probably be the better option. I love lamb but their skewer was sinewy. This is no fun and takes away from the experience. I'm glad I went but I'm more curious about their brunch or their other location

A cozy Indonesian restaurant. The menu is well designed, though some food items were on the pricy side. Liked their chicken satay and fried rice. Meat in the main dishes were well marinated. Drinks were great too. Cocktails were tasty but again a bit pricy. Service was good. Place was a bit tiny but a good spot for snacking and friends hangout. There's a 'secret bar' under the same owner on the second floor. Food (quality, presentation) - 5/5 Drinks (quality, variety) - 5/5 Ambience (interior, cleanness) - 5/5 Service - 5/5 Value - 4/5

It is a nice little place to visit if you like the idea of sharing food with your friends or family if you have a small belly. ;) We ordered fried rice, roast pork, urap, and BBQ chicken. This place is a Dutch restaurant with Indonesian little touch. If you think you will find Indonesian taste here, please don't get your hope too high. Don't get me wrong, the food taste has a flavor. The urap, which mixed veggies with coconut, is good...loved it! The pork, chicken, and fried rice flavors are not Indonesian. This food does not have the original taste anymore, as per the waiter, and he is right on the spot. He is so helpful, funny, and full of energy. My bf and I were happy with our dinner. The ambiance is charming and romantic, and I am not sure if that is called Balinese style, but for sure, the spot is romantic! It cost us $130.50 for our dinner, a bit pricey for a small meal.

On the outside, the sign is not very obvious. But once you step inside, the ambience and the atmosphere immediately reminds you of Indonesia. Really love the little touches and details they have done with the decor here! Ended up trying one of their mocktails from their cocktail menu - Little Brother (ginger, sumac, lemon and pomegranate). Delish! Appetizers - Ayam Goreng (spicy fried chicken) with sambal Mayo, and Satay Ayam (chicken skewers). Both were amazing - the flavours were on point for the skewers and the Mayo paired nicely with the moist and crisp crusted fried chicken. Sides - roasted cauliflower salad with rujak, green onion, puffed rice and crispy onions. Served cold which was a surprise but loved the textures of the rice and the cauliflower together! Basically Goreng - possibly my favourite of all the dishes. Spectacular and perfectly fried Indonesian style rice. And I absolutely loved the flavours! Portions are also very generous for this one! Mains - Semur Java (braised beef short rib with mustard greens and cassava chips). If you love beef you would definitely enjoy this dish. Short rib was perfectly tender and the seasoning and sauce was amazing. Went well with the fried rice! Baby Kecap (braised and grilled pork belly with sweet star anise soy sauce and pineapple). This is actually lighter dish than the beef but the flavours were definitely rich! Perfectly braised and grilled they also went with the fried rice really well. Dessert - coconut pudding and the house made sundae. Both were delicious! I liked the sundae more since I prefer those flavours (coconut isn't my fav) but the pudding is def for those who love coconut flavours~ that coffee ginger ice cream is bomb Our server was amazing - he gave us a lot of recommendations to make sure we got enough variety to try and enough food for everyone! What an incredible meal at @littlesisterto and would def come back whenever I have an Indonesian food craving! What a neighbourhood

Perhaps it's because I've matured, maybe it's the years of refining my palate, could be that I've further opened my adventurous side over the past 5 years... NAH... No way it could be that! I'm the same guy but times have changed and the company I keep has as well. Over the past little while, I've been going to quite a bit of new places (hundreds of them) and did nothing to return to places that I've tried in the past. It's been 5 years since I've been to Little Sister and in that time, they've plodded along and even opened up another spot. A little sister to Little Sister... so to speak! :D My how things change over the years. Expectations and hype no longer lingers as I approach all experiences with an open mind. My prejudices and down right stubbornness on food and tastes have been tempered with understanding what the Chef is trying to convey with each of their dish. I've come back to Little Sister to try them once again. For the most part, the menu items I've ordered were very much the same as before. Unlike before, either I've really changed or they've really improved. I'm going with the former - LOL! Their tacos, lettuce wrap, braised beef, skewers, croquettes, water melon salad, and cabbage dishes were recommended and we said - Bring it! OK... I have to say, I really enjoyed the food this time - much more than years ago. Maybe it was the company I was with, another foodie that knows her stuff, and the conversation about each dish and the components made things just better. Meh - who knows. The surprise of the night was the Grilled White Cabbage - Don't ask... just order it! And you have to try the Croquettes. The beef dishes had repetitive seasoning or taste to it and the skewer dip seems to be the same as well. The taco was messy... but with many messy dishes, it was enjoyable. Their much talked about Semur Java - Javanese braised beef short rib, was not my fav but eaten with the Nasi Goreng, it was pretty decent. Overall, it was great to try a past experience to see how far things have come along. As time passes, things do change... and I for one am happy to change my mind on this spot! 4.5'ish stars!!! LOL! Cheers!!!

Little Sister advertises itself as serving Dutch-Indonesian food, but a more accurate characterisation would be Modern Indonesian-inspired food (though luckily without the steep price tag that almost anything modern and/or fusion attracts). Perhaps because it shares premises with a bar, the music was really loud. The croquettes seemed to be the only really Dutch item, though they were pretty spicy (spicier than Dutch kroket). They had more beef too, which wasn't a bad thing. They were pretty good. Urab (salad) was a bit plain, but refreshing. Babi guling (roast pork) was, oddly, served with salad dressing and lettuce; they should call this item babi guling salad. The pork itself was really good - it had some crispness and was very flavourful. I found the pork and vegetables were better eaten separately. The nasi goreng (fried rice) was odd. It used the wrong rice (long grain), had Chinese broccoli and tasted plain yet weird (i.e. not like nasi goreng). It also didn't have any wok taste like good nasi goreng should. Even accepting it on its own terms (i.e. not as nasi goreng) it didn't work. The coconut pudding was decent. The toasted coconut on top was nice, and the coconut sugar syrup gave it a subtle bitter edge. The pudding itself was very soft, though it didn't have that much coconut flavour.

Even with Covid, I'm glad the restaurant was able to setup a patio on Yonge Street for people to eat in. I walked past the restaurant on a Tuesday night and their patio was at full occupancy. I decided to try it out with a couple of friends and made reservations for a Friday evening. My friend made a special request for shady table. However, because it's dinner time and the restaurant is located on the East side of Yonge Street, that was a challenge, but our hostess was nice enough to make the most out of it and even adjusted the umbrella for us. We each got a beverage and ordered food to share. I ordered the Fiery Sunset, it wasn't too strong and had the perfect amount of alcohol in there with a refreshing lemon flavour. Food wise, we ordered the satay lilit (balinese chicken skewers) , krupuk (shrimp crackers), rendang taco (beef taco), watermelon salad, bebek betutu (duck leg) and a nasi goreng. I personally cannot eat really spicy food and we forgot to ask to reduce the spice level, but when our food arrived, it was perfect. It was at a level I can tolerate and I really enjoyed the food. The watermelon salad may not appear to be very special, but it was a very nice and refreshing salad with watermelon and cucumber. There was a little kick of spice which was not expected but it worked really well together and we really enjoyed it. The rendang taco came in an order of 2 pieces only, but our server had no problem with us ordering an extra piece since we were a party of 3. The dish I enjoyed the most was the bebek betutu, the duck leg. It was was off the bone and really delicious, I ate it together with the nasi goreng and it was the perfect combination. Don't forget to eat the nasi goreng with the bebek betutu sauce if you order these two dishes! Our waitress was really attentive and friendly, she came to check in on us from time to time and topped our water. In the beginning, I was a little worried about Yonge street being really busy and the construction that's happening closer to Eglinton (this is beyond the restaurant's control), but it wasn't a problem and we had a great time with great food and super attentive waitress. We will definitely come back!

If Yelp did half-stars, this would be a solid 3.5. If you're looking for truly authentic Indonesian food, then this is not the place for you. This place is an Indonesian-inspired hipster joint, and although they have a really creative and yummy drink menu, the place doesn't do actual Indonesian food much justice (also, Indonesians don't typically drink alcohol as it's a Muslim-majority country, so I highly doubt the cocktail menu has Indonesian origins). Note that I'm also a harsh critic of Indonesian food, since I myself am Indonesian. Our waitress was pleasant and the service was quick. She informed us that the food was served tapas style, so it would be best to order multiple plates per person. We got the beef croquettes, a couple rendang tacos, some Balinese chicken tacos, krupuk (Indonesian shrimp cracker with peanut sauce), nasi goreng (fried rice), atjar tjampur (house pickles), and Urab (green beans). For a drink, I got the Little Brother. Let's start with what was good: my drink was excellent; I didn't find it "spicy" like the description said, but it was very unique and yummy. The rendang tacos were an interesting spin on a traditional dish--with an unconventional mix of ingredients, it almost reminded me of a Spanish Barbacoa taco. The beef was tender and you could tell it was slow cooked, just as rendang should be. The same can be said for the chicken taco--although unconventional, it had a good amount of flavor. The beef croquettes were good. The krupuk and peanut sauce was standard, although paying $5 for such a cheap snack made me cringe a bit. On to the rest: The "house pickles" were an absolute disgrace. Growing up Indonesian, I have a palate that craves sour, vinegary foods, yet I was beyond disappointed with this dish. I couldn't even taste a hint of the salt or palm sugar (or any seasoning at all, for that matter) that gives most Indonesian salads/pickles their distinctive kick. My mother enjoyed the green beans, although they were a bit bland--their saving grace was the strong flavor of lime leaf. And now the nasi goreng (fried rice)... wow. The texture was wrong, the flavor was nowhere near as savory as it should have been, and the whole dish was just overall disappointing. So. Nice place if you're looking for a trendy bar, or if you're looking to try unique drinks, or if you're into Asian fusion food. But if you're looking for good food, take your coins to a family-owned, traditional Indonesian restaurant.

Services started off great but then realized we were close to our 75 minute seating capacity mark qhen we were rushed out in 65 mins without being offered seating at the bar upstairs The chicken satay with peanut sauce was heavenly! I also loved the randang tacos which were surprisingly very filling. Also liked the cocktail.

I've been wanting to try this place for a while and we ordered through a delivery service. The packaging is eco friendlier as it's not in the usual plastic container. We were very surprised though as we ordered quite a few meals. We tend to over order and usually end up with lots of leftovers. We were almost shocked that the quantities were so small compared to what we were expecting / the pictures advertised. The containers were not filled completely and we felt that it was quite on the expensive side vs the quantity delivered. The flavours were delicious though and very unique. It's a bit of a shame and that is the reason why I'm putting 3 stars. Maybe the experience is different when you dine in.

Having a drink and a snack before catching a movie at Little Sister was a wonderful experience! If you are looking for authentic Indonesian food, you might be disappointed. Little Sister offers a taste of Indonesian-Dutch cuisine. Cocktail menu is interesting with an "Indonesian" twist. I would have been happy just have a drink here anytime! We ordered 2 items to share: Fried Cauliflower Salad ($7.95) Rujak, Green Onion, Puffed Rice Babi Guling ($8.95) Crispy Balinese Pork Wrap, Pickles, Peanuts Service was attentive and friendly. Love the energy of the staff. The decor here is cozy and homey. Made me feel right at home. Reservation is highly recommended even on a weeknight dinner rush. Little Sister is quite unique and worth giving them a try.

Little Sister is an Indonesian snack bar located on Yonge St. between Eglinton and Davisville subway stations. The interior of the restaurant has a trendy, hipster vibe and the service and food selection is plenty. The dishes are meant to be shared like tapas. I dropped by Little Sister on a Wed night. I had made reservations which are recommended, even on a weekday. I was surprised to see that as my party and I were leaving, there were people waiting to eat at Little Sister. These are the following food items that the 2 of us shared: - Satay sapi (beef skewers) - Ayam Panggang (sweet chili chicken) - Babi guling (crispy Balinese pork wrap w/ pickles/peanuts) - Pangsit (deep fried beef wontons) - Nasi goreng (fried rice) - Watermelon salad (with fresh herbs and a sambal vinaigrette) All the dishes were delicious and flavourful. Favourites would have to be the babi guling (you get heat, sourness, spiciness, and saltiness with these DYI lettuce wraps), the nasi goreng (such flavour!), and the watermelon salad (refreshing with a slight slight kick). Definitely would return to try more dishes and drinks!

However the service is good, they also have a bar to spicd things up. They have cookies and other treats. Theres a cute patio, and many sitting areas upstairs and downstairs and lots of privacy. I think its worth checking out!

Last Saturday a friend and I decided to visit this venue. We'd both previously been to their…read moreFinancial District location and I'd also visited their Harbourfront venue a couple of times as I live close by. We arrived around 3:30 pm when it was fairly occupied; they feature 'Happy Sour Hour' from 4 to 7 pm, during which all of their sour beers are reduced in price to $7.00. We ordered and shared two beers, the first a lager, the second a sour beer in order to take advantage of the discounted price. The venue is long and narrow, with two floors and a distinctive looking back patio. Our service was fairly prompt and they are located in a quite convenient location, literally across the street from the subway and the historic, flagship LCBO location. So I can recommend a visit if you're in the area and desire a drink and/or snack.

This review is based on free-flowing appetizers and drinks, which, as we all know, is the best way to experience anything. The decor is standard Firkin pub meaning cozy, British, and featuring the signature Union Jack couch that I unfortunately neglected to take a picture of as there was an event photographer. For a British-style pub, my only real complaint is the cider selection. As someone who isn't a Strongbow fan, I was hoping for a nice local option, but the choices were slim. I happily pivoted to a perfectly pleasant Malbec, so I was okay in the end. The service was surprisingly excellent. Our party had about 30 people, and although there was another large group there at the same time, the staff was on it. Our waitresses kept us well-stocked with appetizers and managed to get drink orders filled with impressive speed. For those taking transit, it's incredibly accessible and just a five-minute walk from Rosedale station on Line 1. I can't speak to the parking situation as I didn't drive, but I didn't notice any garages on my walk from the subway. I'll have to come back on my own dime to give a more "authentic" review, but based on this experience, they know how to handle a crowd.
