HP Driving School Review:…read more *Be sure to call Mrs. Benedictine before you plan to register at the school since she might be teaching other students* and she won't be at the school. When I registered, I called her beforehand and she scheduled to meet me later that day after the classes. I just brought my provisional instruction permit during registration and it was 35 dollars per hour or 210 dollars in total for the 6 hour behind the wheel training. Mrs. Benedictine was always on time with our driving appointments and she would always call about 10 or 5 minutes before to remind you that she is coming. Since I can speak Vietnamese, she spoke to me mostly in Vietnamese during the lessons but she also speaks English if you can't speak Vietnamese! She was really nice and patient during the behind the wheel training even though I had no experience whatsoever of driving. She covers all the requirements and basics such as turning, freeway, parking, parallel parking, various controls in the car, etc. If she tells you that today you have a 1 hour lesson, then it is 1 hour, she nevers ends your lesson earlier or cuts off your lesson. Overall, I'm really happy I met her since she taught me really well, allowed me to practice on lots of different routes, and was always on time!

Paid the "all inclusive" package for my son and spoke to Linda Trần, the owner. I wanted this…read morehandled so I don't have to micromanage the process and let them do their job. This $850 package purports to be the unlimited package to get training then DMV driving test as many times as needed until you pass. What they don't tell you is that it's 10 hours behind the wheel then you take the driving test. Every failure is another $9 to DMV. If you fail the driving test 3 times you then have to pay DMV the $40 or whatever it is to redo the written exam and then continue to pay $9 for each retest. So no, it is NOT "unlimited." He also had no freeway time. That said, my son's alleged instructor did not adequately prepare him for the driving test. My son expressed this in a call to me during their lesson before his instructor and his instructor then said for him to not focus so much on how many retakes if he hasn't even taken the test yet. I thought "why is my son saying he's not ready when he's not even tested yet?" This was a call from my son DURING his lesson before his first driving test to address that he could not learn when his instructor is calling him stupid. Mr. Ngo aggressively rebuffed, saying "did I call you stupid?" My son said he had said while in lesson "are you Stu..." inferring that by implication there is no other word left when you state the first syllable. I'm patiently waiting to know what other word starts with stu that he could have meant instead. The reason? My son was hesitant to park in a spot that was denoted in DMV parking lot with a blue line, which he understands as being handicap parking. Ngo said "it's common sense" that blue line is not. I said no, it's not common sense after my son said it was his first time driving into a DMV, so use of words there is peculiar at best. Ngo said it's 10 hours flat of training regardless of whether you are ready before you test, that we signed the contract, so if we signed the contract and didn't read that then we are "dumb." I asked if he just called us dumb. He denied it, of course. Well, sure enough... fast forward my son went in to his first driving test after that and failed. The owner on the group text then said my son "isn't serious". I demurred that was incorrect because he expressed this well ahead that he was not ready. He has one more try after I come back from business trip. Will update on what ends up happening. Driving exam for a teenager should not be this hard. You cannot expect referrals by calling your clients "dumb" for signing up after taking money. This place is disappointing. You can do better. It's not teaching when you belittle your students, it's taking advantage of people whose parents are not there to advocate and check your bad behavior. Do your job.

A1 Driving is great! I passed my driving test on the first try at the Costa Mesa DMV 2 weeks ago!…read more I called in December (2015) and scheduled my first appointment. The receptionists were kind, informative, and quick for scheduling. I was asked if I had a preference of instructors, and requested Jim after reading good reviews about him on Yelp. (Great choice btw, PICK JIM!!!) I believe I paid roughly $300 for the mandatory 6 hours behind-the-wheel driving lessons. A1 Driving offers free pick up and drop offs (locations of your choice). They even allow pick ups at your school, which is extremely convenient, considering a majority of the people taking the lessons are high school students, like me. I scheduled all of my appointments 1 month apart, in order to get a sufficient amount of practice before my next lesson. I highly recommend doing this, so you benefit more from your lessons. I also recommend scheduling your appointments in advance if you are very particular on the date and time; When scheduling, I had to choose weird times like 1-3pm. I had TERRIBLE driving anxiety before I started my lessons but my Jim made my lessons fun, and made me comfortable behind the wheel. His teaching method was really chill, and I didn't feel as if I was taking a lesson. Despite his jokes ("Feel the power of the Corolla" LOL), and story-telling, he was very informative, corrected my driving, and gave me plenty of driving tips. On my last lesson, we drove to the Costa Mesa DMV (where I scheduled my driving test to be), and practiced the route. Jim was very informative; He told me everything the DMV examiner would be looking for, and ran a practice driving test. The only "negative" commentary I have to say about my experience with the lessons was that Jim was always 10-15 minutes late, and ended the lessons roughly 10 minutes early; However, that's not a big deal considering A1 Driving offers lessons all throughout Orange County and LA, and there is traffic. Overall, A1 Driving and Traffic got the job done - I had fun and learned lots from my lessons; I passed my driving test on the first try andI'm now licensed! Admissions guy was really friendly and answered all my questions and walked me through the entrance process and financial aid. Everyone was really friendly and personable and the classes I saw on the tour seemed engaged. Planning on a May start, they also cross-train X-Ray Techs as Medical Assistants, so win-win.

I came in for a tour, but it just didn't feel right. The whole experience felt forced. I know it…read moresounds stupid, but some of the reasons I decided not to go with this school is because of how pushy the staff was. There were some details that turned me away, but it's too petty and ridiculous to post here at the moment. They had openings the very next month, but since classes only have 8-9 students, it's hard to believe that it wasn't full already. Although the classrooms looked cool, and I enjoyed the tour, there was this feeling like they were only after students' money and not their well-being. I guess I would have preferred speaking with one of the teachers, and not a counselor/advisor that doesn't quite have the expertise in the field. They have the limited X-ray license program for a year with morning/evening options. I forget the pricing, but I was told that many students choose this private schooling because of the community college waiting lists. Also, the presentation was extremely short and felt like it was cut short. Regardless, I would personally rather go through public education somewhere like Cypress, Mt. SAC, El Camino, LACC, etc.
