Aaron was a great instructor and helped me pass my DMV driving test in one try. I had 3 lessons and he was extremely detailed when answering my questions and always made sure I left each lesson knowing how to improve. When I made mistakes, he would help me understand what went wrong and provide guidance on how he would approach the situations through drawings or examples of other people's driving experiences. I have had two instructors and Aaron went above and beyond my expectations. As a beginner driver, I appreciated his relaxed instruction and attention to detail because I would not pass without his guidance. read more

Mr. Tan was the instructor for both my son and my daughter, and he did an excellent job teaching them how to drive safely and confidently. He was very patient, calm, and thorough with his instruction, which really helped ease my worries. Both of my kids felt comfortable learning from him, and thanks to his guidance they both passed their DMV driving test on the first try. I highly recommend Mr. Tan and Bolsa Driving School to any parents looking for a trustworthy and professional driving instructor for their teens. read more

I took my driving lessons with Mr. Aaron, for only a few days, & he taught me a tremendous amount of information about driving, his English is good, & he knows Vietnamese too. He's also hands free, I like that since he tries to let you take care of control or braking, accelerating / speed, the wheel & only interfering if you mess up, this is amazing since it teaches you practical skills rather than just listening & learning. This driving school is also pricing is average or if you can consider it cheap, it's a $100 for a 2 hour lesson. I'd say that's quite worth it for how much I learnt by the day. With all he taught me, I managed to pass the DMV behind the wheel test with only 6 mistakes, mostly about my turns. He also teaches you everything to know about the pre test checkup. I'd recommend this place to anyone learning to drive. They'll pick you up if you near the driving school. read more

My behind the wheel training with my instructor John was amazing! My twin sister and I, both student drivers had him as an instructor and there are so many little things that nobody tells you about driving which he cleared on the first day and made sure to bring attention to. John has many little tricks such as the "hand on hand" steering and such that just made my driving experience extremely improve as a formerly nervous driver! He went over a lot of things about the DMV test as well as driving in general. He made it very easy for us to understand the mechanicals of driving without any confusion. As someone new to driving, I could feel my confidence growing with each continuing day. I would really recommend this place, especially my specific instructor John, because I feel like your confidence with driving could grow and you could become a better driver overall! read more

I don't recommend student who has booked the DMV exam at Long Beach go to this school. Firstly, before I paid, I'd already told them I wanted to practice the DMV road test. But at the first day, the instructor Hai was telling me we cannot go to DMV to practice because it was Friday and it was not allowed to practice in DMV. (which is a lie, we can still practice in DMV) So we ended up just roaming around, he didn't tell me what street need to go during the exam. Secondly, on the second lesson, he wasn't doing his job because he didn't even know the road test so when he was guiding me, he is actually using the google map. It was so UNPROFESSIONAL. Why did this school still sent me an instructor that doesn't familiar with the Long Beach DMV when I'd already told you my desire? It's totally WASTING my TIME and MONEY. read more

From: RK I asked specifically from this school to give me Mr. Ken as my instructor because of the yelp reviews I read. I read that Mr. Ken was a good instructor. Well, the reviews were correct, and Mr. Ken was excellent. His English is very clear, and he is very patient. He will give you everything you need to pass your exam and he will make you a better driver. I took 9 classes with him, and I booked Mr. Ken to take me to the DMV Exam. I passed my exam first try because of his instructions and my hard work. Ask for Mr. Ken he is the man you need if you want to get your license. Thank you, Mr. Ken, for your help. read more

Instructor Aaron helped me pass the test first try with 3 mistakes only in a short amount of time, would recommend!

Had my behind the wheel sessions. I had different instructors so I'll give a review by days. Day 1: I don't know the instructor's name but his initials are D.T. He was great and very friendly. He came on time and paid close attention. He was what you would expect from a driving instructor-- focused, timely, and professional. 5 stars. Day 2: This instructor, named Tan, came 15 minutes late and dropped me home early. He was a poor instructor, he called people DURING my session. Unprofessional, unsafe, and unacceptable. He kept going 'You do this on dmv test, you fail ok?' during the entire session. It got really annoying, especially since this was only my second day driving. During a turn i had to make (across the entire road), he was like 'okay... GO' and stepped on the pedal FOR me, forcing me to go. In addition, at the START of the session, Tan began to mark off all the things we had to do during my session (turn left, right; stop sign, etc) before we had actually done it! 1 star. Day 3: Instructor came late by 30 minutes. (This is particularly annoying because when you do the math, each minute is worth $1.) This is just horrible!! However he felt bad and apologized and made my session longer. His English was ok... I couldn't really understand what he was saying, making it difficult and wasting time. He kept trying to use Vietnamese but I don't understand it (and told him). He made me do things until I perfected it, like turns & parking. He also gave me a run- through of what the DMV test is like and asked me what the past instructors had taught me, so as to not waste my time. 3 stars. -- Overall, I guess you get what you pay for in terms of quality. In the paper that you sign, it says you get a 10 minute break every hour but I feel like that's a safeguard for them when they arrive to your house late. The instructors are middle-aged Asian men (at least the ones I had) and their English is adequate. I think this school does what it's supposed to but just in a bad fashion. Just be warned: they speak in a slightly fobby way (so it may be hard to understand them) & they'll come late/ act unprofessional. You get what you pay for. read more

I haven't had the greatest experience with driving because it's a high-stakes activity that involves a lot of pressure. However, thanks to Mr. Tan, I was able to regain my confidence before the driving test. He was an amazing instructor who was calm throughout. He did not make me feel bad about my inadequacy but instead calmly corrected them and pushed me to improve with the remaining time before my test. Ms. Kim was also a big help. She helped me schedule a very last-minute 11 pm appointment with Mr. Tan. Due to their combined efforts, I was able to pass my test! I will definitely recommend Bolsa Driving School to aspiring future drivers! read more

This place is a ok place for your child to start their journey on to getting their license I HIGHLY RECOMEND buying the practice questions for the written test on the DMV the practice questions were the same on the written test (kind of a cheat code). Now onto the glaring issue the instructor TAN was very bias and could tell the huge difference when he taught a normal kid driving and a rich kid driving. I was in the middle of driving when i asked him if i was supposed to turn or not but he ignored and started typing into his GPS to go to the rich kids house (i could tell it was rich he lived near the beach where those multi million dollar homes are) we almost crashed on the intersection. when we got there he shooed me away even though i had more then 20 minutes till it was my time it was very messed up and i saw his clipboard saying 2-4pm for me but it was 3:20 and the Rich kids schedule was 4-6pm when we started driving he acted very nice and kind and when the kid made a severe mistake (kid almost ran over a dog) his attitude changed it was very noticeable when the rich kid drove me home at exactly 4 i asked the instructor if he was gonna show up tomorrow for conformation but he just ignored me and told the kid to drive off what an A$$hole would you believe that!!!. in the end i ignored it but it felt like he only prioritized the wealthier people which was very messed up. read more

My daughter had Hai Tran as an instructor and had a wonderful experience. He was very patient and really helped her understand what is expected when driving. I never thought in my life I would write a Yelp review but my experience with Bolsa Driving School was incredible so I have to write one. I took the 6 hours practice before the day of my driving test with my instructor, Aaron over the course of 3 days, 2 hours each day, and for him to drive to my house with the car on the day of the test. In those 4 days, he came to my house on time and made sure the time scheduled for was spent 100%. On the first day, he told me to show him my driving skills then he started teaching me effectively about what maneuvers I was missing and pointers to look out for the driving test. His way of teaching was very clear and I got it right away. When I made a mistake, he would point it in a professional and calm manner and explain clearly what I could do to improve. Whenever I asked questions, he wasn't bothered by it and was glad to answer it. For example, I asked him when I should look in my mirrors and shoulder check in some scenarios and he was glad to answer it. On the day of the behind the wheel test, Aaron came to my house on time and I started driving with him to the DMV. When getting my information checked, I realized there was an incident that was 100% my fault, and nobody else's that should have prevented me from taking the test that day but Aaron, a lifesaver stepped in to help me. Honestly, he didn't have to go through this hassle of helping me. He could have just driven me home and the driving test would be canceled. Instead of doing that, I remember saying him saying a phrase I don't remember exactly but it went something like this "Don't blame others it is better to solve the problem". So he went through this hassle of solving the problem and I managed to take my driving test and passed it. Without Aaron, I would have 100% never passed it. He was very encouraging and congratulated me on passing my test. I remember him saying that I should keep my score sheet and show it to my future children which I thought was hilarious. read more

I opted for the 5 lessons for $80 each and only had two weeks before my test. My instructor was Ken and he was very courteous, understanding, and a great teacher overall. He taught me a lot about the road and gave good criticisms where it was important. I also bought the "Instructor takes you to the DMV and you use their car" package and Ken wasn't available that day. However, Tan was able to take me and had a lot to teach me about what the DMV expected. His tips were very helpful! I also passed my exam! read more

Ask for Aaron as your driving instructor! I've enrolled in this school for last-minute lessons due to not realizing that my permit was about to expire. I purchased 5 lessons with 2 hours per day. The driving lessons were made around my schedule, and I got picked up from my own house to start the lessons. Aaron was my assigned instructor, and he is very patient and detailed! Of course, he is stern when he needs to be, and gives great criticism followed by tips and reminders. He also gave great examples and stories in order to help apply the new knowledge. I already had previous driving experience with my dad, but even so, I learned about new pointers and the requirements for the DMV behind-the-wheel driving test. As the lessons went by, I could tell that I significantly improved from before the lessons! I took my driving test on a Tuesday at a scheduled appointment of 3:20 pm. I got picked up from my school, and then warmed up by driving to the DMV. That day and time were particularly busy, and Aaron waited with me the whole time through (over 2 hours!). With Aaron's aid throughout my whole preparation process, I managed to pass my test with only 4 errors (and while it was sprinkling too!). I wouldn't have passed without Aaron and this school. Additional info: I texted Aaron whenever I had questions apart from my lessons. He is very responsive and helpful even through text. read more

I recently got my permit and was looking for an affordable driving school to get my required 6 hours and I saw Bolsa Driving School which is not to far from where I live. I decided to give them a try and get my 6 hours done with them, I was able to schedule the first lesson the day after I called them. Today I finished my last day and after getting my 6 hours completed, I have to say this place is great! My instructor, Ken, was a great instructor, he was very patient and professional which led to me getting more comfortable and relaxed behind the wheel therefore resulting in me learning more. I definitely recommend this place for anyone trying to get their 6 hours done for an affordable price and I recommend you ask for Ken as your instructor. read more

Based on my experience from end of August to beginning of September of 2020: - good for just getting your hrs in and learning some driving TEST basics - not as informative and productive as it could have been. My instructor was quite passive which was calming at the start but made me quite frustrated by the second and third day because I didnt know what i was doing right or wrong. And in my pov, he's getting paid and shouldnt have to be told how to do his job well, but maybe I should have communicated to him my concerns too. - it seemed like my instructor didn't say as much possibly because he isn't as fluent in english (i saw him struggling to translate his thoughts). His explanations were usually in viet, which is fine because I understand it. Just wish I got more advice and feedback overall. What we did: - 3 days, 2 hr sessions - went over the operations in the vehicles that are tested - practiced driving in my neighborhood before going onto street - practiced L/R turns, signalling, lane changes - practiced pulling over, backing up 50 ft - each day in the second hour, I picked up the person who was meant to practice after me and drove back home - practiced parking We did cover the essentials of the driving test, but there were many other things we did not go over that are crucial to know in driving such as U turns on the street (the only one we did was in a neighborhood) and usage of the middle lane for example. But I guess it wouldnt be fair to give a lower rating for this specifically because the driving test essentials were covered even if they were brief?? So id give a 3.5/5 but you cant give half ratings, so im rounding down to a three for the lack of feedback, which is a very significant factor in learning. I learned so much more when practicing with my brother within the first day alone and he said that the instructor he had gotten from another place (he forgot where) was so much more informative, covered more beyond driving test basics, and he felt confident after, so i suggest asking for a SPECIFIC instructor who has been receiving good reviews (I think recently people have been talking about their good experiences with Aaron), or finding another driving school to get your practice, unless you dont care too much and just want to get your paper signed because it's very affordable ($30/hr~$180 total) compared to other places. read more

Huge thank you to Ken and Aaron for helping me get my license! Ken was a fantastic instructor and made me feel confident behind the wheel! He was also super patient with me when I made any errors. I had three, two-hour lessons with him, and in that time, I improved my driving skill significantly. Aaron came to pick me up for my driving test. He was super kind, calming, and ensured that I knew everything I needed to pass the test! I would to definitely recommend this school if you're looking for an affordable option to get behind the wheel training! read more

This driving school helped me pass the test by repeating the basics and showing me the routes at the dmv I made an appointment at until all the routes basically became muscle memory. My instructor was stern but meant well and repeated all the basics of driving to me clearly despite his limited english, which helped ingrain these principles in my head and form good driving habits. I believe the sessions could have been slightly more productive, but through his guidance I passed the test with 0 errors and learned how to drive in the rain effectively. read more

The only reason this place got 2 stars from me was due to the fact that one of the regular instructors, who was in charge of educating me on how to drive was courteous/nice. He was however unprofessional as an instructor (talk on the phone during practice drive, made me drove around just to run errands for him and not on the actual lecture of the driving itself). In addition, the owner was extremely rude! He was trash talking in Vietnamese to another Vietnamese adult calling the students driver as "ngu" which translated to "stupid" because some failed the driving test on their first attempt. I was so upset and wished I should've recorded the demeaning conversation. I realized that the staff here also stereotype by treating some people better than others, usually, the older/elderly students will get better attention than the younger/teenager students. Truthfully, this place only wants your money by getting you to pass the test as quickly as possible. If you want a place that actually treats you with etiquette and cares about your driving ability then do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. I have a couple family members, who need driving practices to get their driver license and I've always told them to stay away from this place. read more

Bolsa Driving is extremely cheap compared to other schools, which is suprising because the service is unbelievably amazing! My instructor was Aaron and I did sessions for 3 days and 2 hours each. His teaching was very straightforward and professional, but he was also funny so that the sessions wouldn't turn out awkward. Whenever I would make a mistake, he would calmly call it out and help me improve. I am now completely confident in my driving thanks to Aaron. Definitely would reccomend this driving school! read more

My instructor was tan and honestly, he's not that great. He can speak English that is understandable but some things are hard to understand. I can never tell if he is saying "change to gas" or "gentle gas." He constantly repeats warnings but they start to get annoying. He says to take your time and don't rush but when you don't do an action he says right away (even when you're not supposed too), he's always like "Hello!? Hello!?" This was my first time driving, barely any experience except for a hour in an empty parking lot. He knows this fact yet made me drive all around my town. I understand that he only has 6 hours to teach me, but come on, spend more than 3 minutes teaching me the basics. He was constantly getting on my nerves and he sucks at giving instructions. I'm so glad I choose the 6 hour training because I wouldn't have been able to deal with tan for any more sessions. read more
