The sad part is that Little Richards has discontinued beef brisket. The average retail price for beef, which is used inbrisket was a record $9.64 per pound in April, up 13 percent from a year ago, so I've read. I still thought their food rocked with the chopped pork barbecue and all the great sauces, and their barbecued drumsticks. You just get a lot for the money at Little Richards. Recommended! read more

Went in looking for brisket, ended up with a stuffed potato. Turns out Little Richard's does not offer brisket. The potato stuffed with smoked chicken was quite good. The macaroni & cheese was good, but the portion was small. The menu mainly consists of pork and chicken entrees. The staff is friendly, and the prices are reasonable. Will probably go back. read more

Darieen. What the best waitress we have ever had so far. Just amazing! Very knowledgeable and friendly person. The food was delicious as well. Thank you for everything. read more

This was really good. The food was exactly what I was expecting. The service was great. The prices were affordable for the amount of food you get. We had a great time. The restaurant had a 1960s feel to it. We saw another BBQ place close by that didn't look busy, so we didn't go there. We've made that mistake before. But maybe next time we'll give them a try. I don't want to assume. read more

The food ant worth it the money because Smithville barbecue is a lot better than Little Richard

Great food. Great service. Cool T-Shirts. Both kinds of slaw. Multiple sauces. I will be back.

The food is excellent and our waiter was nice and the atmosphere was darn good and just overall a 5/5 stars read more

Little Richard's Barbeque - Smash burger with onion rings - Barbeque Near Me - Mount Airy, North Carolina

I have elected to give Little Richard's 4 stars based their friendly staff. It looks like a typical Bbq joint and sits right by a Shell station. They have a huge menu. I decided on the pork bbq sandwich with bbq slaw. The pork was dry with very little seasoning and had too many fatty pieces. I had to load on the sauce, which they have several varieties. Their house sauce is served warm and I have never had it served that way so found that unique. My husband had the pork tray with cole slaw. He didn't love the BBQ either. I will say the Mac & cheese was legit- Creamy with delicious chewy topping pieces. The hush puppies were little crispy nuggets with good flavor. I would return and try a different smoked meat! read more

Where do I start? Unfortunately, this visit was a big step down from the great experience I had here last summer. The service was slow and not very good--maybe our server was just having a bad day, but it really affected the meal. When we sat down, we let our server know that the rest of our party wouldn't be joining us after all and that she could take our order whenever she had a chance. Her response: "I have other tables to wait on." Not sure why that needed to be said--it just felt unnecessary. We waited quite a while, and in the meantime, another table that arrived after us (with a different server) got their drinks and food before we even had our order taken. When our food finally came, I ordered the baby back ribs, but they were overcooked and dry--definitely not the quality I remember from before. My uncle ordered a chopped BBQ tray but got something completely different. When we were ready to leave, we couldn't find our server and actually had to ask someone else to track her down so we could pay. To top it off, I noticed an automatic service fee added to the bill, which was surprising considering the level of service we received. Honestly, it was really disappointing compared to my previous visit. Hopefully, this was just an off day, but it's hard not to walk away frustrated. read more

It's been a while since we ate here but stopped in today for a late lunch. There were only a few tables occupied so clearly the lunch rush was over. We were quickly seated and a waiter took our drink order. I thought maybe someone else would be our server as we waited for quite a while, which has always been something that doesn't happen here. Finally the waiter returned and took our order. After what seemed to be a longer than usual wait time I noticed a waitress at the pickup area looking at an order that I had seen sitting there for a while. She looked around for our waiter and was unable to get his attention so she was considerate to bring it to our table. Of course the fries were room temperature and the food barely warm. Since I just ordered a barbecue sandwich it wasn't a big deal but I did send the fries back. In a few minutes our waiter returned with fresh hot fries. When he brought our check I noticed a 3% Operational Fee added to the bill. This must be something new since we were there last. All in all this was not a very pleasant experience. Unfortunate. read more

Some of the best barbecue I have eaten! The hush puppies, potato salad, and pulled pork were out of this world! Be sure to get some fresh cooked onion rings! P.s.- the voodoo sauce is amazing read more

The food is really good but service is always very slow. I would eat there more if the wait wasn't so long.

The food was amazing and there was lots of it. I've never seen so many hush puppies on a plate! The service was excellent. The restaurant was small but clean and fun. read more

I stopped in here passing through town while on vacation. The menu had plenty to choose from and the prices are reasonable. I had a hard time picking so I tried a sampler of three of their smoked meats, I chose pulled pork, beef brisket and baby back ribs. The dinner came with two sides and hush puppies, there were numerous choices for sides. The sides were typical southern fare including fried okra and collard greens plus many other choices, the hush puppies were made in house and were probably some of, if not the best I've ever eaten!! Everything was delicious and the servings were generous. We had a fantastic server who took great care of us. The dining area was very clean and neat and had some cool old antiques hanging on the walls. If you are in Mt. Airy NC. and want some great BBQ this is the place!!! read more

The service was not good, server acted like she was doing us a favor. A different server brought our food and she literally held the plate in my face instead of just setting it on the table. The food was terrible, worst BBQ I've ever had. It was dry, cold and tasteless. No sauce on the table, and when we asked for some she brought 2 small containers for 4 people. Definitely will not be back. read more

Outstanding barbecue and ribs. Wonderful service. A little bit pricey but what restaurant isn't these days?

My wife and I regrettably visited Little Richard's yesterday. My 1/2 chicken had been reheated from a refrigerator. The oil in their fryer was way overdue to be changed out. And $41.32 for poor quality food will always remind us to never return. Sorry, Little Richard's but this bad review was well deserved. read more

The food was outstanding and and packed full. Staff was friendly and quick. Will definitely be back.

Ordered Brisket. It was really good. Sides, not so much. Potato salad was too saucy and didn't have much flavor. Cole slaw was totally bland. When the meal said it came with hush puppies, I was thinking a couple medium sized ones like at long John silvers. No these are about 1/2 the size and they give you about 20 hush puppies. Too much. One odd thing about our bill, there was a 3% service charge on it. Haven't seen this before. I felt like restaurant was trying to nickel and dime customers. read more

Food was good BBQ with good size portions. The service was excellent. Waitress was polite and attentive. Very enjoyable dining experience.

This tiny tray was $14 after tax. I was quite disappointed with this to-go order. I can 2 to 3 times this amount of food for $10 elsewhere. The total was almost $35 dollars for two of these tiny trays and some hush puppies. They also now add a 3% surcharge to all orders due to the current state of the economy. I do understand the issue, but with the incredibly small size of meals makes it truly not worth it. Food was just OK nothing special. I truly hate to leave a negative review but I would NEVER spend my money here again. Very disappointed with my "meal". read more

I would not eat here again. If I could have been able to not click on a star, that would be better than one star. BBQ is dry and stringy. Tell me again why i even went through the front doors. The waiter charged me a Admistrative fee on my bill and I paid cash. I will not eat here again. This is not what you are paying good hard earned dollars for to enjoy. It is not even wood cooked. Find a local person raising money for a charity to get the real effect of some good "Q". Or drive down to Speedy's BBQ in Lexington, NC. Never again! This place must have gotten bought out by the Cartel. This 3% Administrative fee is ludicrus to say the least. This is North Carolina not NEW YORK! read more

We stopped in about an half hour before closing on a rainy Tuesday in December. We were greeted warmly and seated. Melinda explained the menu and made us feel very welcome. The service was great. The restaurant was clean as always. Apparently, the hush puppies and fries are now fried in beef tallow. It's nasty and leaves a terrible aftertaste. Even the wait staff agreed. They no longer have brisket and replaced it with chopped steak. One employee told us "well there's more on the menu...". I don't need to go back until management comes to their senses. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. read more

Tony and I knew when we made our last minute plans for a road trip to NC that wherever we call it a night, our dinner would be Southern BBQ..and not just at any joint selling BBQ, it had to be on specializing in it...so when we decided to sleep in Mt Airy, NC., Little Richard's was the winner. Specializing in Lexington Style BBQ..wasn't really sure what that was but willing to try it out~~ Tony and I navigated with Google Map to the restaurant and was pleasantly surprised that at 6pm on Saturday night, not too busy to get into. The hostess greeted us immediately at a booth near the back from the door, I like that!! I am always cold!! She took our drink order of Sweet Southern Iced Tea with lemon and Tony had Budweiser Beer. After looking over the menu, I asked the waitress a few questions and she also offered me a taste of the BBQ Cole Slaw, like regular Slaw but no mayo its mixed with BBQ sauce..I wasn't a fan but I wanted to try it and was thankful she gave me the opportunity. We went with a Combo three meat platter with 2 sides: we chose double of the Ribs on the bone and some Beef Brisket. Our sides were Mac N'Cheese and Baked Beans and we chose a third side of Collard Greens and it was served with Hush Puppies. The food was terrific not one little complaint other than I was so full I could not finish my plate and I had no room to try their Banana Pudding..I highly recommend the restaurant and was pleased with the pricing. Total for food, taxes and $7 tip for the fabulous waitress was only $42. Definitely will go back again! Definitely recommend! Great Restaurant!!!! read more

The food is good but they have started charging a 3% Bogus fee to the check. They are calling it an administrative fee and that's if you are paying cash. I'm not sure how much extra you are charged for using a credit card. I have eaten there many times in the past and 3% is not going to cause me a financial issue. It's the principle of the bogus charge that bothers me. Every company has administrative cost but they don't have a fee like this. The profit they loose from me not eating their is much greater than the 3% they got from me tonight. read more

We came by while in the area. We had onion ring appetizer which was good. For dinner we had the garden salad with chopped beef and Two meet combo with brisket and chicken. We also ordered 5 wings to go with dinner, they were a bit on the small side. I found the chopped beef to be a bit dry on the salad and the chicken was also dry on the combo. The portions were large and we ended up taking some with us. Over all your dinner was average. The service was good and kept our drinks full. The bathrooms were pretty clean. read more

Excellent takeout dinner last night. We were surprised, given the somewhat mixed reviews. But we took a gamble, because we really wanted some NC BBQ. My husband was the winner. He got the pulled pork BBQ dinner (a little confusing w/ online ordering , since there was no indication of what kind of meat you were getting!). The *hickory* BBQ was really good. I also requested a side of the *Whole Lotta* BBQ sauce- which was good, too. The pork was incredibly tender. His 2 sides: collard greens and corn fritters were really good, too - especially the fritters. The juicy sweet corn inside was really flavorful. I got the smoked chicken platter. It was chopped - which was a little strange - but it was tasty. Loved my 2 sides: baked beans and potato salad. Husband picked up the meal and said he didn't really look at the place. The carry-out pick up was right at the door. Online service was quite efficient. Our meal was ready in 20 mins. Good stuff! read more

This is a small regional chain that puts out classic Carolina 'cue, and does so at a very attractive price point. For $16.06 plus tip, I received a tray piled high with chopped pork, onion rings, okra and hush puppies, as well as a refillable soft drink (Pepsi products). The deeply smoked pork offers great flavor without sauce, but it only got better with the addition of the classic Lexington style sauce. Yum. The onion rings are outstanding, and the okra and hush puppies don't lag far behind. This is seriously good eating, with portions large enough that I had enough leftovers to make dinner. Friendly service made the experience even better. Thanks! read more

We ate here while traveling in the area. We were a little turned off at first because the young lady who seated us seemed to be having a bad day--or maybe she just would rather not be here. Our server, however, was attentive--not overly friendly--but attentive. The food was really good. There are 5 of us, so we just about sampled everything on the menu. I had ribs, my hubs had pulled pork. My granddaughter had the BBQ nachos which was enormous! Highly recommend the ribs, collards, and especially the homemade potato chips. All super good! If you come and the lady seating you is rude, don't let that deter you. Stick out your tongue, come on in and CHOW DOWN because the portions are huge! read more

We had a door dash order . Our location is maybe 5 minutes away. The ribs was great , so was the burger. we open our bag, we have no napkins no utensils to eat with, our tea was hot and homemade chips were cold limp and greasy. They must have left over from lunch. Other than that food is good. By the way we no way of cooling the tea. read more
