Nostalgia at its best. Love stopping at Aunt Bea's for a quick burger, onion rings, and fries. The roadside stop is perfect to eat inside or take Togo ! I stopped in last night with a friend. I've driven by a thousand times but never had the opportunity to stop and check it out. Aunt Bea's at first blush resembles a Dairi-O inside, and they sell similar food, but Aunt Bea's has a much larger menu and BBQ. I order the chuckwagon plate with a side of spicy potato wedges and a side of chili cheese fries. It was a total fried-potato-fest. The chuckwagon is essentially a battered and deep fried hambuger patty. Personally, I think it needed a little more seasoning, but there is always ketchup or barbeque sauce. A1 would have done the trick. The spicy potato wedges were not spicy, not even remotely, but they tasted fine otherwise. The chili cheese fries were pretty good. Gloopy and ready to induce heartburn as God intended. (I didn't have heartburn, but I thought it might.) My friend got a cheeseburger, and he said it was decent, but the patty didn't have a lot of flavor. The service was excellent. The girl at the front was so friendly! The atmosphere of the joint is very family friendly, and I could tell that there are plenty of regulars with kids that come there often. They had a pretty nice ice cream selection, and maybe next time I stop in, I'll try some. read more

Stopped in today primarily for coffee but they only had Splenda, which isn't a healthy option for sweetener so we passed on that. I got an egg biscuit and my husband got strawberry cobbler. He said the cobbler was really good. My biscuit was extremely greasy and the egg bland so this is not something I would order again. If we had eaten in I'm sure I could have added salt and pepper which would have helped but it wouldn't have degreased the biscuit. I don't think we will stop here again. read more

Don't ignore the poor rating. We did and wish we hadn't. The grits are instant, the tenderloin wasn't tender, the biscuit was dry. So disappointed. I always say it's hard to mess up breakfast food...but Aunt Bee's found a way. The person who took our order acted like she wished she was anywhere but there. This is reminiscent of the greasy spoon or local family run restaurants I stopped at for a quick bite in younger years in college or after a long night. Not a lot of frills but instead you will get Counter service with a hometown vibe that removes the extra flair many modern restaurants have. If you are looking for a franchise or a bunch of bells and whistles avoid this gem. If you desire your basic creature comforts and some local charm, stop in. Remember we get what we give in life. The pork was tender, moderately chopped, but with no flavor, and no hint of smokiness. There was little meat on the sandwich I ordered, not much slaw, but there was MUSTARD (check the picture), making the whole mess even worse. The Hot Dog was only marginally better. This is one of 5 of these restaurants, all in this part of the state, or in SW Va. Came from Raleigh for a day out to Mayberry. Before leaving area, we decided it would be nice to go to Aunt Bea's. My boyfriend had eaten here many years ago and wanted to return. What a mistake!!!! It was nasty. We choice to have the ham breakfast meal. The ham too salty and the eggs were sitting in a liquid. The taste wasn't very good. Hard to describe. The grits and gravy were both about 1.5 tablespoons and very lumpy. They gave us both 4 small tater tots. They were ok. The best thing about the meal was the biscuit and the toast. We are on our way to Cracker Barrel to have a descent meal a slightly higher cost which we know we will enjoy. We through most of our food away, it was simply nasty. This was one of the worst dining experiences in my life! I ordered the ground steak sandwich with wedges. The sandwich was disguising...looked like it had been pre-chewed and discolored. Plus, to top it all off, they put slaw on my sandwich, which I never ordered, and I had to get them to make me a new one. The woman who took our order was out of it...we ordered the "spicy potato wedges" listed on the menu...she replied that they didn't carry those. Then, she listed all of the other sides they had....and, lo and behold, she listed out potatoes wedges...ummm...couldn't she have said, "no, we don't carry the spicy wedges, but we do have regular...??" We got lunch there today at the drive thru (2 chef salads, 2 bbq sandwiches). After Mom ate half her bbq sandwich she began vomiting. After talking with another family member that ate there last week (and was sick for 24 hours) we elected to toss all other food that we ordered. We were so disappointed. This WAS one of our family's favorite places to eat BUT in the last year it has went down hill faster than a roller coaster. It's straight Carolina 'cue (vinegar style with more sauce in bottles on the side, either vinegar or sweet smokey tomato) served up fast and cheap in a cozy little building that also offers local ice cream and standard soft-serve cones. My first time eating here. Went with the family and I must say they have pretty good BBq. It was nice and we'll seasoned and smoked flavor. The sauce was really good too. The fries were okay, the seasons they use aren't really anything to be excited over. My wife said the hamburger wasn't very good though. It looked small and thin the patty was over cooked. The men's restroom..... well the door couldn't close fully and the stall door had no lock on it and wouldn't close fully either. I feel as if they need to fix that problem. Other than that, the dinning area was clean and lots of space available. All in all it was a decent visit besides the bathroom issue. So I'm giving this place 3 stars. read more

Aunt Bea's is a quick place to grab some grub - sort of a fast food with better seating kind of place. When we visited, there were a lot of locals there - which I always think is a good sign. Looking around most people were ordering the burgers and dogs - not the Bbq. (I did note walking in that I could not smell Bbq cooking, which was a sign to me not to order to Bbq - but then again I am a bit of a Bbq snob.) The crinkle cut fries were good and I used the house Bbq sauce for dipping and it was good - had a nice kick to it. The place reminded me of an Andy's burger joint - nothing fancy but decent food. When I say awful, I mean it is the worst chicken out of all the chicken I have ever ate in my life awful. Salty, rubbery, it even looked weird. Skunk meat maybe? Hush puppies were dry. Delicious food, clean restaurant, friendly employees and reasonable prices. Great Lexington-Style BBQ with all the trimmings. Hush puppies, bbq slaw (personal favorite) or regular coleslaw. If you're not much of a BBQ eater, try one of the many varieties of sandwiches that they offer. Another big plus to satisfy the entire family is that they offer a full menu of breakfast items all day. We have never been disappointed in anything we've had. This place has mediocre food, but when I'm craving a gravy biscuit in this small town.. it's where I go. Problem is the past 3 times they've not had gravy. So I asked tonight at 6:30pm why they couldn't make more during supper time. The response? We make a big pot right before we open and use it all day until it's gone. So it you get gravy at 6pm it's been there all day. If you are going to say "breakfast served all day" then your restaurants should honor that. read more
