A little Japanese cafe tucked in Kensington Market, Little Pebbles is a cafe worth the hype. While it was too hot out a few days ago, my friends & I were looking for drinks to cool us down (I know, shame on us for not bringing some H2O). Though unassuming, Little Pebbles caught my eye immediately because all I saw was "tiramisu latte". Say whattttt?! I have no idea what magic they pulled but dang, the baristas made THE perfect cup of tiramisu latte. The cream was smooth and rich, balanced with light cocoa powder on top. That in itself blended well into the latte to give the drink so much depth in flavor and yet, it did all of that without losing the taste of espresso. There were a lot of drinks and desserts to choose from so I'd love to come back and try them all. We ordered the pistachio white chocolate wheel, almond chocolate and the raspberry matcha cube croissants. We also got the matcha tiramisu latte. The matcha tiramisu latte was wonderful. It had the perfect creaminess balanced by the matcha. A great drink to keep you warm. Both the pistachio white chocolate wheel and the almond chocolate croissant were great. They were buttery and flaky. The filling of the wheel croissant was a nice sweet surprise. The cube croissant was okay. It's been a while since I've come here and I was pleasantly surprised today. I asked the lady at the counter for her recommendation on the croissants because they all honestly looked delicious (strawberry and cream, black sesame and matcha raspberry). She told me the strawberry and cream is a bit heavier, the black sesame has less of a black sesame flavour on the actual croissant because it's activated charcoal used for the color (only the filling is black sesame) and the matcha one isn't too sweet. i ultimately got the matcha one because i felt the raspberry filling was unique. I'm so glad i did because it tasted delicious. Not too buttery or greasy and definitely not too sweet. It had a nice matcha flavour and it went well with the raspberry. Little Pebbles is a cute small Japanese coffee shop with a lovely assortment of pastries. This is my second time visiting Toronto, and I had to come back to visit. I have to say the speed and service has improved, and the coffee does not disappoint. The decor is clean and simple, very cute. Unfortunately I don't think there's enough space for someone who would want to do some work / study in this coffee shop, but it's a nice place to sit down and chat with a friend. Pro-tip: If you're looking for a crispy flaky croissant, look elsewhere. Highlights: The store is really cute and I love the flavor profiles they offer like black sesame, hojicha, and Earl grey and the overall presentation is fun. Quaint, little cafe in the heart of Kensington Market offering various sweet treats and drinks. Prices are on the higher end for the moderate quality of pastries they're offering. I tried their assorted croissants and wasn't really impressed. The Hazelnut Chocolate, Almond Chocolate and Pain Au Chocolat croissants all tasted similar and found the chocolate a touch too sweet even though they used Belgian dark chocolate. The croissants are not as flaky and buttery tasting and a little bit dense for my liking. The Korean Hotdog croissant is one of the worst croissant I've ever tasted. The hotdog was burnt (as you can see from my photo) and everything tasted dry. The hotdog was also over salty and the flavour combination of sweet and salty didn't work well in this croissant. Service was also disappointing and rushed. I was given something that I didn't originally ordered (paid for it though) but was already home when I found out about this. There was only 1 staff that acts as a cashier and order taker at the same time so this explains my order mishap. There are other spots in Toronto to grab delicious baked goods so I know I won't be a repeat customer of Little Pebbles. read more

The space is super cute but very small, I suggest grabbing and going. I ordered the rum raisin pistachio dessert. I loved the cream inside, it was buttery, light and airy. However, it did not taste like pistachio. I tasted 0 rum flavour or raisin. It tasted like nothing and the pastry dough itself tasted old and lack lustre. Ordered food via delivery app. The hojicha latte is using the hojicha powder to make the latte. Normally I avoid powder-based latte because all the powder is left at the bottom. this one has the same issue. It tasted good , until near the bottom. so grainy. ;( The croffle, highly recommended. i liked a lot. The croissant... i like the ingredients, and the thought behind it. However it was sorta hard to eat because it was hard outside and also not soft inside and it had a cut in the middle thru. The flavor was good, little too sweet for me. I wanted to try all their Asian inspired treats, but alas I only had room for a couple: I expected their matcha cookie to be chewy, but it was painfully overbaked (dark and burnt-tasting on the edges). I couldn't taste either the matcha or white chocolate, so it was quite a shame. The matcha croissant was beautiful and had a pleasant, slightly buttery matcha cream. I thought the croissant itself would have matcha flavoring (employee said matcha was baked in there) but I couldn't taste it. There was a tiny bit of raspberry jam in the middle as well, but the tiny amount made the pastry taste unbalanced; I'd almost rather it not be there at all or have a better matcha to croissant to jam ratio. We've had there Japanese Strawberry shortcake and croissants for years, this place has recently gained more popularity for their cube shaped croissant, and I can tell you that you're better off just ordering a regular croissant from them. Little Pebbles was a small cafe that we encountered while walking through the Kensington Market/Chinatown area of Toronto! While the interior was small, the space was well-utilized and had a lot of cute decorations/aesthetics that made the cafe feel cozy to be in. Based on the interior decorations, we believe that the cafe was named after a cat named Pebbles, which overall added to the homey feeling in the cafe and was cute to tour the small decorations added for Pebbles. Prices were a bit expensive for pastries, so we only ordered a passionfruit cream puff to taste and we're not disappointed. The cream was wonderfully tart and not too sweet, with an extremely pronounced passion fruit flavor surrounded by a flaky exterior. There wasn't a whole lot of seating, so we had to half sit/stand as we tried this cream puff. Overall, I would recommend dropping by and trying a high-quality pastry! The cafe isn't conducive to a long-term stay/studying because of its size, but provides a super rich selection of sweets for a nice pick-me-up! read more

I ordered a 9-inch strawberry shortcake, a croissant cube with filling and half a dozen daifuku mochi balls for a birthday. I ordered 24 hours before, and pick-up was a breeze. Most of the group thought the strawberry shortcake was ok and weren't fans of the texture. We did store the cake in the fridge as per the instructions on the website for an airy texture. I didn't get a happy birthday note, but it would have been an extra $5. For the croissant cube, we expected a flaky, buttery croissant with filling. However, when we opened it, it was heavy and did not taste good. The mochi balls were a hit, and we enjoyed the texture and taste. I want to eat EVERYTHING they have here. We'd walked by a few days ago but given that it was later during the day, they were just about out of all of their pastries. After deciding to come back later, we finally did today while walking past. It's the cutest little space and the counter display looked so good with everything that I almost went through an identity crisis trying to decide what to get. Thankfully with 4 of us, we got the yuzu coconut, raspberry matcha, pistachio white coco, and black sesame croissants between us all. Then I got an earl grey canele on top of it. This place is a great find. They have so many different interesting flavours of croissants and they also do a waffle meets croissant called a croffle. We didn't try this time but we definitely want to go back and try that as well as their square croissants. As for the place itself, it's cute but quite small, so you can't really eat in there (similar to majority of the other spots in Kensington Market). My rating is similar to my recent Yelp elite experience. I bought a Korean hot dog croissant for a snack later. My rating is 3.5, but I am rounding up. I used to frequent Kensington Market growing up and when I took Cantonese classes nearby on Saturdays through high school. As embarrassing as it sounds, I haven't been in this neighbourhood in over a decade, at least. I am glad that I finally did to hit Little Pebbles. It was my first time driving over here. I ended my workday last Friday at 3 pm and drove here. It was a pleasant drive. Parking along Baldwin Street is limited. There is parking on the south side. There is also a parking lot where it's paid parking. I have a small car. I found a tight spot on Baldwin, steps away from Little Pebbles. Growing up in the Beaches, living in an apartment building required that you get a permit and park your car on the street. I spent hours learning how to parallel park in tight spots with my dad's car. All that practice came especially handy on this afternoon. I can normally parallel park on my first try. This spot was extremely tight that it took me three tries to squeeze my car into it. I was thankful for the car behind me waiting patiently for me to park. He tipped his hat and then drove away, which was pretty cool. It was a first. I walked up to Little Pebbles at 4:30 pm. There were two people who had come out of the small store and sat outside. I pulled the door open and there were six people packed into a little space. I waited outside until someone walked in. There was no sign on the store indicating the maximum number of customers in the store. I will say that it shouldn't have been six. I was a foot apart from the other two folks around me and I didn't feel comfortable. There were two staff members busy preparing beverages and cakes. Three of us were probably standing there for ten minutes. When it was my turn, I said that I was here for Yelp. I had to say my name to the woman twice because it was fairly noisy. She found me. The man grabbed two croffles from a rack. Grateful for the croffles, I had to ask what I got. I didn't catch what she had said and asked her again. One was the kinako. She pointed at the sign and said to read it. Um, okay. I realize that it's super busy, but that's borderline passive-aggressive. I heard her say caramel, so I assumed that I got the caramel churro. Heaven forbid that I ask a third time and get my head chopped off for posing a question! Each croffle was placed in a paper bag. Perfect to eat and handle. I had to wait a bit to get the woman's attention. I also ordered a Korean hot dog croissant. It allowed me to tip and enjoy this delicacy as a snack later on. I paid with a debit card. I tipped, tapped, and was done. I thanked the woman and happily exited from the cramped place. I got to my car after making a quick stop next door. I watched a woman for at least five minutes try and parallel park in front of my vehicle. She only succeeded when I pulled out to leave. You do need an advanced skillset to parallel park in Kensington Market. I have always taken the streetcar and the old 77 Spadina bus to get here. Oh, how living in the suburbs changes that vibe these days. I drove a bit and parked on Harbord Street. I had both croffles. The good: - Both croffles were slightly sweet. I dig toning down the sugar in anything. - They had the flakiness of a croissant (not crazy flaky-crunchy) with the chewiness and crunch of a waffle. I liked this hybrid. - The Korean hot dog croissant was excellent. A plump hot dog encased in a flaky croissant was heavenly. Yum! The not-so-great details that need improvement: - The croffles were room temperature. I would likely have enjoyed them more if they were warmed up and perhaps made within the hour. I wouldn't say that they were stale, but warm croffles would have warmed my tastebuds and heart a croffle lot! - Lack of flavour choice. The kinako is supposed to provide a nutty, aromatic flavour because it's roasted soybean flour. Between the kinako and the caramel churros croffles, I couldn't tell the difference in flavour between them. I felt that they needed stronger flavours. Perhaps getting a savoury croffle would have been nice to compare, but I have a feeling that all flavours are mild. - I realize that it's stressful having two staffers handle a lot of customers. It didn't feel inviting being here. I didn't like the read-the-sign mentality. I can read, but I don't read minds as to what croffle flavours are handed to me. I was not out of line to ask what flavours I got, but I felt that I had asked the question of doom and a grey cloud was about to follow me for the remainder of the day. It was nice trying croffles out. They were yummy, but could be a lot yummier with stronger flavours and warmed up. I appreciated the low-sugar default. This place was on the list for a while. So I finally caved and ordered it via UberEats. I had the following as was going for the trifecta. Strawberry shortcake: Oh boy where to start a complete mess of a somewhat simple cake. The cake sponge was off and all over the place. We are talking hard edges at times and grainy texture. The cream and strawberry filling was serviceable. Avoid or do yourself a favor just grab a piece from your nearby grocery store as that will fare better! Square croissant. More of an Instagram item so after I took a few pics and tried it mediocre at best. Basque cheesecake. Decent for a change not too sweet. With nice burnt edges. Again I wouldn't go out of my way to order it. The portions for non croissant items were small as well which would have been fine if done right. I guess I am surprised by the high ratings for this spot. It caters to a certain taste profile and social media hype items. There's also not a lot of seating inside or outside the cafe, so it's best to do take-out or just stand outside to eat (what I did).
