Little Madrid is a new addition to Sawmill Market! i like that they serve tapas/small plates (from appetizers to desserts) that you can try and/or share with your friends. We shared a 7 plates combo and I honestly thought the food was tasty! The portion was relatively small, but that's the whole point of small plates! I actually liked all the plates, but thought I really liked the basque cheesecake, both the paellas (New Mexico & Valencia) and what seemed to be like arancini (crunchy on the outside but seemed to have texture of paella inside). Well, pretty much everything tasted good! Prices weren't too outrageous I don't think..especially if you are sharing the plates with someone! I liked that they opened in Sawmill and hoped more people tried them (the people seemed to like getting their full-sized dishes from other shops)..but I'm hopeful they will discover the small plates tastiness that they have been missing at Little Madrid soon!

My first visit to this establishment, Saturday afternoon the 17th, around 4 PM. It was not crowded at that time. This is a tapas style restaurant. Reminder: the portions are tapas size, so they are smaller than typical entrees. One orders at the central counter; then seating is either inside at marble topped counters, or outside. Staff was friendly, service was fast. Very nice natural lighting at this time of day. I had three things: Paella Mariscos, patatas brava, and shrimp and cod empanada. The paella was delicious and had just the right amount of saffron in the rice. The pieces of seafood were small, and tasty. The paella disappeared before I thought to photograph it. The patatas brava were perfect and had a nice subtle aioli covering. The empanadas are interesting and flavorful; I tried to capture the filling in the photos, so you get and idea of the blend of cod and shrimp with herbs. There is nearby as part of the ambience of Sawmill. Overall then a great experience; some tasty food in nice sized servings, and then some great music outdoors.

This place was legit!! I love Spain and it just so happens to be that San Sebastián had the best tapas in my opinion and this place reminded me of there! (The French chef actually trained in San Sebastián) I feel for tapas it is way overpriced, but that seems to be a common problem with all the eateries inside Sawmill. With that said, I suppose it's cheaper than flying to Spain haha! The flavors were very Spanish - I loved the egg salad especially. The Paella is EXCELLENT and the wine really tastes like Spanish wine (which I feel like Spain keeps their best wine to themselves, so it was very nice to feel like I was transported back to Spain with my Rioja Reserva!) The anchovies were just a touch fishy, but the pulpo (octopus) was to die for!! I Definitely want to go back and have more paella and try one of their empanadillas. Little Madrid is a great addition to Sawmill!

Ehhh is what I thought. The basque cheesecake is pretty good. The paella which I was most excited for didn't have much flavor. It was on the drier side. The potatoes and octopus were okay. Not great not bad. It is kind of pricey but it's not terribly pricey as a sawmill market restaurant. Just a bit small. The service was fine.

Located in the trendy and hip, Sawmill Market location it is a great addition to the line up available there. They have a beautiful selection of paella, cheesecake and a wide variety of tapas. It's quick and fast order service. They even have wine options available. Check out my photos for what I had. It was $7 per small selection. I got 3 options and it was fun to try a little bit of everything. This would be more fun with a larger group to share next time. There was plenty of options. Service was great and friendly. If your an adventurous eater, I would definitely check them out. So many fun and unique options to choose from. There is some wall seating inside their space. I went at lunch and it was hard to find seating indoors. I was patient and snagged a seat after a little lingering. Next time, I'll tackle their special cheesecake. It looked delicious!

Wonderful new place to eat in the Sawmill Market near Old Town. Spanish tapas and paellas are really tasty and displayed in a unique way: the daily selections are arrayed so you can see what you want, and then there is a set price for ordering 3 or 5 or7. Easy! Staff does a nice job of explaining each dish. The seating area is a counter and stools lining the big exterior windows. For beverages, there is a nice selection of wines (bottled water too), or many other options nearby in the market. Sawmill Market has nice parking. We loved our food and will be regulars.

Of course we had to get the green beer! Sitting outside, enjoying the sunshine with a cold drink in hand, it felt like the perfect way to celebrate. But the real highlight? The tavern itself is sort of rustic, and you choose where you sit. Some announcements were scrolling on the tv while we were hanging out and it made it clear to us that this was a neat community spot where cool things happen. We kept it simple and got the mac and cheese to share, and it was so dang good! Creamy, rich, and the crispy onions on top were clearly made from scratch. The portion was perfect for the 2 of us. Our expectations weren't super high being a sort of pub food place, but the quality blew us away. Our server was awesome, quick and genuinely kind and personable. You could tell he likes what he does, even being there on his bday. It was super chill inside, and you could tell from the other people at the bar that this is definitely a place where people are regulars and love to see the people who work there. If you are in the area, don't underestimate this place. Also keep an eye on their event calendar if you're local or visiting for a few days, it looks like they host some really fun events. This stop gave us perspective into the area and the vibe really made us think we could relocate one day!

At the end of the meal, we were shocked to see a $44 automatic gratuity added to our bill, for just two people. This was never mentioned by our server. As visitors, we had no idea this was part of "restaurant week," and no one disclosed it when we ordered. That lack of transparency felt deceptive. Service did not justify that kind of tip. We had very little attention from our waitstaff, long stretches without check-ins and minimal engagement. Meanwhile, the table right next to us received constant attention from both the manager and staff. The manager was explaining dishes and making sure they were taken care of, while we were largely ignored. The difference in treatment was obvious. When we questioned the charge, the manager's response was dismissive: "it's on the website." That's not acceptable. If you're adding a mandatory gratuity of that size, it should be clearly communicated at the table--especially to out-of-town guests. We were happy with the food and pricing, but adding a surprise $44 tip without telling us ruined what should have been a special anniversary dinner. We left feeling misled and undervalued. Be aware: ask about automatic gratuity before you order, or you may end up with unexpected charges like we did. We won't be back.
