About a year ago we contracted Luttle Johns to fix part of our irrigation system and they did a great job. So when we needed the yard aerated, I reached out for a quote. It was the most expensive at $350 but we liked the company so proceeded. They showed up unannounced and had everything done in 10 minutes. Unfortunately they didn't seem to add enough weight or take the time to really pennitrate the soil in the dry areas. So.... an expensive service with minimal results. Not pleased. read more

Awful communication. Easily the worst experience I've ever had with a contractor. I asked for a quote which they charge a rather large fee to have someone come out for that quote and it's not built into your service if you choose. It was approximately $160 or so. Whatever. You're running a business, you get to charge what you want to, I don't have a problem with that. However, during that visit to my home we discussed all that needed to happen to my front and back yard. Running a back drip. Running a whole new front drip. Adding a sprinkler to the middle row of my backyard and replacing the sprinkler heads in my front yard. I was told I would get an email with the quote and I agreed to that quote. The morning my of the service appointment I get a call from Little John's saying, the actual price would be 3x my quoted price. THOUSANDS of dollars more. I said this felt like a bait and switch and that we should probably cancel everything. They called back with a new quote that was about 2x my original quote and I relented, agreed, and said okay come on by. My mistake. They started on my backyard and completed that and then I went to discuss where I wanted drips in the front yard which was VERY clearly discussed in the initial consultation. I was told that they would only be doing the backyard for the price I was paying. At the conclusion of their work no one knocked on my door to discuss the work. The sprinkler in my back yard was never added. The front drip was never dug and installed. They did replace my front sprinkler heads and did a good job on those. They installed my backyard's drip system, however, I have 12-15 naked drip lines coming out of the ground with no emitters. They told me over the phone that's normal. I'm not a sprinkler or drip system expert but I've never seen a drip system in my life look that way. Whatever. I laughed when they emailed me about lawn care services with the reason that I should choose them being their great communication. Stay far away from this company. read more

I'm shocked that with all the competition there is in yard service, there isn't someone trying to separate themselves from the pack by providing good quality service and customer care. One thing I will give Little Johns credit for is that when I contact them to complain about their shoddy work, missed tasks or messy pool, they usually send someone out to fix it, but that shouldn't have to be part of the standard process. They should understand the assignment and do it right the first time. After spending over $1500 with other plumbers, sprinkler Companies and Lawn guy, I called Little John's and explained to them that I wanted someone who could actually FIX the problem of water hammer that occurs only when the sprinklers come on or move to a new area of the lawn. They assured me they could do that. Unfortunately they lied. They said they charged $100 for an evaluator to come out and look at the problem. A guy, Shaun Handley, did come out and initially I was impressed. He said that he had adjusted the water pressure and that the problem was a sprinkler valve in the back yard that wasn't working and a loose pipe going out of it. He said that it was a "small job", but that replacing that would require his supervisor to contact me and give an estimate. The bill I got was for $175, not $100 as they said. They insisted ahead of time that I give them my credit card info, so they went ahead and charged the $175. I didn't argue about that since I figured it was worth it if I can get this problem fixed. It has been more than 3 weeks since that "evaluation" and although I have sent an email asking about the "supervisor" contacting me, I have heard absolutely nothing. If these guys were as good at servicing their customers as they are at collecting money, I wouldn't be writing this rating. I am pretty much done with Little Johns. I will be finding a sprinkler company or plumber that will do what Shaun Handley said to do. read more

I wish my experience was better. I have a large 1 acre property and they brought out a small crew with only a push behind lawnmower and not enough time slotted to complete the job. The next time they came out to finish the job, which included edging my fields and mowing, all they did was mow and left my fence a mess. They did not contact me after leaving the property to inform me that the job was incomplete. Now, I need a third visit to complete something that should have taken one visit. Also, it seems as though there is a huge miscommunication issue between the office and the crews on the ground as to the scope of the project to begin with and no communication with the client after the job was left unfinished. **Update: Raylan and her manager have been very accmmodating as a response to this service. If i could give less than a 1 star review i would, i called this company because the wire between my timer and valve box was broken somewhere under ground and they said that they had the equipment to track where the break in the wire was and repair the wire, well they get out there and spend supposedly 2 hours out there and just send me an estimate saying that i need a whole new irrigation system, new valve, and new timer, and they didn't even fix the break in the wire that i originally called them to fix and charged me $243 to do nothing but lie/mislead me and if nothing, so i moved the timer to over by the valve box and just replaced the wire myself, the system worked just fine, the valve was turning on and off as it should, and the timer is working fine, all of the buttons work as they should and the display is working fine so there was no reason to tell me that those needed to be replaced, they system itself had no leaks and they didn't even dig it up in any spots so there's no way they could have known the condition of the system to tell me that it needed to be replaced! Do NOT use Little John's unless you just want a quick hack job and don't care what your plants and shrubs look like. We'd hired them a couple years ago for their biweekly yard maintenance. They did a fine job mowing and edging our lawn, but week after week, we had no idea what shape they'd leave our shrubs and trees in. It finally came to a head last week. We had three beautiful shrubs along our driveway that were 4' tall, were covered in healthy green leaves, and frequently blossomed with small purple flowers. A few weeks ago, the crew decided to lop off the top foot of the shrubs. I suppose they were hoping the branches would grow back stronger and healthier, even though there was no problem with them in the first place. Well, that didn't happen. The branches did not grow back and the hack job only exposed some bare spots that had been previously covered by leaves. A few weeks later, it seems they realized their mistake and tried to rectify it by doing the worst thing possible. They lopped off the rest of the shrubs, leaving just a couple inches of bare sticks above the ground. See the first picture below. These are slow-growing shrubs and it's going to take years for them to grow back. In the meantime, we have to look at this eyesore every day. To make matters worse, this happened just days after my wife bought Christmas net lights to hang in the shrubs. Needless to say, she's heartbroken. Sadly, this isn't the first time they've maimed our plants. We have a neighbor whose lemon tree extends into our yard. We used to get literally hundreds of big juicy lemons every year, but several months ago, without asking, Little John's hacked the branches so far back that we'll be lucky if we get even a dozen lemons this year. What's worse, Little John's crews are clueless when it comes to pruning trees. Everyone know you don't cut branches halfway along their length, as shown in the second photo below. It's ugly and it damages the tree. You're supposed to prune the branch back just short of the collar where it extends off from the previous branch. This looks much more attractive and gives the tree a chance to heal over the cut. Finally, Little John's ruined our bougainvillea, pruning it back more and more until they finally exposed a huge bare area. See the third below. This happened several months ago and the plant still hasn't filled in. I think it's outrageous that Little John's crews take such drastic actions without asking permission or even discussing it with the customer. They do provide a way to leave notes for the crews, but we found that the crews regularly ignore them, pruning our Mediterranean palms even after we specifically told them not to. We should have cancelled our biweekly service after the first hack job, but I assumed they knew what they were doing. As these photos make clear, they do not. read more

My next door neighbor uses this lawn service, and their employees use gas powered lawn mowers, which produce a LOT more noise and pollution than a car, and more blowing power which also kicks up a LOT more than just leaves. Swirling clouds of airborne debris, including soil or dust, and possibly fragments of pollen or mold spores, pollute the air; including valley fever fungus spores! I observed this employee blowing the leaves and debris from my neighbor's property onto my property as well; or onto the street! A giant cloud of dust was apparent from all the way down the block, as this employee was using the gas powered blower incorrectly to 'sweep' the driveway of dust, causing all the dust to be airborne. These small inhaled particles are especially dangerous for people with respiratory or heart disease, diabetics, older adults, and children. read more

I called to inquire why the price difference and it is an additional $150 for equipment rental. That is not $275. I was excited to try out this service. I love the idea of a customer portal for lawn care. Unfortunately, after the initial sign up and my accepting an estimate, I was ghosted. No response to emails. I called and they said they would look into why no one had called to set up services and then....nothing. I sent emails...nothing. If a business can't return a phone call or an email in 3 WEEKS, they have no business accepting new clients. At the very least, call and say you don't have a team or whatever but don't waste time I could be spending looking for a more organized and professional service. Be warned, the few bad reviews you are reading are every bit true! In Summer 2017, we selected Little John's for landscaping service after careful research and ratings reviews. We were initially pleased with the overall service. A couple months go by and we notice the 1st issue with our front grass in what appeared to be an uneven cut with circular patterns throughout. We shared our feedback with Little John's and the initial response was that we did not have an issue due to faster growing grass resulting in some discoloration. After additional messages (including pictures) Little John's responded the issue was "the new lawnmower we have wasn't adjusted correctly." Since winter was soon upon us, my husband took over care of the front grass since we just invested in all new sod less than a year prior. Fast forward to late May 2018, when a repeat of the grass circles occurred. I quickly escalated the 2nd complaint, recommending Little John's needed to perhaps again adjust blades and notes were apparently added to our account. Just 1 week later, we came home to find **Large Brown Circles** in the yard and our 3rd complaint. I begged privately in an email for help and even requested a resolution be found as we wanted to continue using Little John's. I was told John himself had all of the information, was in the field, and would be in touch shortly. Two full business days and a total of four days later and we do not have a response to the 3rd repeat complaint. Our neighbor uses this company. They go to her house every week and blow all her leaves into our yard and onto our patio every single week. If our front door is open, all the leaves blow up under our security door and into our living room. Don't waste your money on this company. I don't think they have any other tool besides a leaf blower, and they will surely piss off your neighbors by putting your plant trash in their yards. Once they attempted to fix our neighbor's sprinkler system. They dug up the yard for quite some time and mangled the grass. Why would I care? Because they were at the wrong house. They were in my yard digging up my sprinkler system that I just had replaced a month earlier. Our lawn still has a crater where the guy was digging. I wish I could leave a big fat zero. Little John's are lazy people. They have cut down the flowers in my flower bed four time because two different people come every time. They trimmed the evergreen trees that didn't need to be trimmed. They left a mess in my back yard that is all weeds and fruit that has fallen off the fruit trees. Horrible customer service and total lack of regard for clients. We hired them to trim our trees and they spent 1 hour on the property, didn't cut trees and charged $105. They claim a 100% "no risk" guarantee but when I brought to their attention the job they were hired for didn't get completed they said they don't cut trees over 8 feet. My realtor specifically said we needed a tree crew and sent photos prior to work being done. They also require a credit card on file, now I'm being told no refunds. Little John's Lawns claims to provide "worry-free" lawn care but my experience with this company has been anything but worry-free. A quote that comes to mind: "Men with good intentions make promises. Men with good character keep them." I signed up for biweekly lawn maintenance and mowing services and, starting about 5 months ago, I noticed that my plants were looking a bit dehydrated. I called and asked for the irrigation tech to come out and check for/repair any leaks that might be causing pressure issues and preventing the water from going where it needs to go. I was told there were no irrigation issues. Another month or two goes by and I start to notice my front lawn looking worse and worse... nothing is growing yet they are charging me lots of money biweekly to "trim" and nobody from the crew notices or says anything about how terribly unhealthy everything is looking even though they are at my property every two weeks? I call again and state that my plants look like they are dying and now my large tree (5 years old and never had any issues with it) also looks like it is going downhill fast. They came out to spray for white flies on ONE plant over by my neighbor's yard, which is fine but nothing was dying on that side, it was my tree in the middle and the plants on the other side of the yard that were dying and there was no evidence of infestation anywhere over there. It clearly just looked as though there was not enough water getting to them! A few weeks later, I asked for the irrigation tech to come out AGAIN because at this point my tree looks dead and nothing on the one side has been growing for months. She said there was no evidence of a leak and maybe the "crew had been cutting too much off of the plants"... um, okay but they haven't cut anything at this point in months because nothing has been growing. I then demanded that John come out personally to take a look at how pathetic my front law looked at this point and to figure out what was going on. John instead sent a "supervisor" who found a leak over where the main valve is (on the side where the plants weren't dying - go figure) and I mean a MAJOR leak, as in the irrigation tech should have checked over there and found it but anyway - a WEEK later the leak still hadn't been repaired! Finally I demanded to speak with John personally and told him how incredibly disappointed I was with the lack of professionalism and pure negligence on his part. He made excuse after excuse instead of just owning it and making it right. At least Hector (who leads the maintenance crew for Little Johns Lawns) was honest with me and said that John asked him to come and cut the "dead parts" from the tree but when they did that the entire tree fell over and needed to be taken out because it was so dehydrated, down to the root! So now I have NO tree and everything on one side of my yard is totally dead. Oh and here's the best part, after agreeing to replace my tree (which is the least he could do since it died due to his negligence) John totally ghosted me and is now not returning my emails or calls. I'm hoping that at least some of the plants will grow back now that the leak is finally fixed but the damage is done, my lawn looks terrible and I wasted so much money with this company that let my once beautiful lawn turn into what looks like an abandoned property. Time to move on I am sorry to say that I have had several negative experiences with Little John's Yard service over the last several months. We have been together for several years, but something has changed. I have tried to reach out to the owner, Little John, but always get the run around. The gardeners break the sprinklers or the drip system and I pay to have them repaired. They oversee my sprinkler system. I called them and explained I have a water leak and their answer was, " We don't handle emergencies and they could send someone out in three weeks. So, I begged them several times and they finally sent someone out and turned off the water. The bill was 45.00 dollars. I have tried to communicate with them, asked to talk with the owner, and have tried to be calm and professional looking for a satisfactory outcome. So, it's time to send reviews and ratings. Your crew left my neighbors property this morning (8/21) at 7am. I went out and spoke to one of the crew guys who stated it was his first day on th job regarding my frustrations with the debris constantly left on my propertly when you guys come for a clean up at my neighbors. I asked that he speak to the guy blowing to clean up his mess... I am not sure if this happened, but was left with a messy yard yet again by your company. They make you have an "initial clean-up" before they will start a monthly service. This initial service is $165/hour (which they do not disclose...because they know no one would pay this!). It took three guys three hours to "clean-up" a yard that only needed some weeds pulled and some bushes trimmed. The lawn has NO GRASS. They also didn't trim any of the bushes around the pool area. So, for $462, they didn't even do the whole yard (see pictures)!! Then, when I called to ask, Joy was incredibly unhelpful and just kept repeating that the monthly service is different from the initial clean-up and that the clean-up is $165/hour. This place doesn't care about the customer and almost feels like they are taking advantage of people during this COVID-19 pandemic. If you decide to deal with them, be sure to get everything in writing before accepting the service as you could end up spending your entire yearly lawn budget on one visit! In all fairness, the bushes they did trim were done well and they did blow out the yard and picked up all the debris. We did know that it would be more than the monthly clean-up but I would not have even had them come out had I known how much this would cost. read more

The crew always does an amazing job at keeping my yard looking beautiful! They always come the day they say and best of all they let you skip a service if you ever need to. Life is unpredictable and having that option means everything. They danced around my need for weed spraying and was only interested in up-selling me ongoing lawn service at a bargain price of over $160 per hour. You heard right. It's annoying to see the owner respond to positive 5-star reviews but avoids dealing with dissatisfied customers - his crew was out to my home yesterday and couldn't even trim hedges in a straight line, he had no problem telling us he instructed his crew NOT to trim the agave plants we asked them to do several times...he said it would take too much time and would be willing to do it on an hourly basis ... Probably a blessing they didn't touch them launch they'd probably botch the job....the quality is no better than what you'd find from some random now and blow bunch. DEFINITELY NOT WORTH THE PRICE ($105 an hour for the initial job) AND POOR COMMUNICATION! 3 emails later and no response .... The quality of work was excellent and not an issue. The yard looks great. However two problems came up that will not having me use this company again. It took a month to get service done as there were scheduling problems that happened twice. I was originally told that service would be performed within a week. And the biggest issue is that when asking for a quote, I was told the work would take 2-3 hours to complete. I was then billed for 6 hours of work because the quote was intended for 2-3 hours of work per person, and they sent three individuals. Nowhere on the quote is this explained or detailed, so this is EXTREMELY misleading. The workers also performed MORE work than I requested (originally told them I ONLY wanted bush trimming performed), which increased the total time they were here, and therefore increased the total cost. OH, and they have my credit card on file so when calling to dispute the issue they would not honor the original quote. read more
