We were in Denver for the weekend. An old friend (maybe I should say "longtime friend") picked us up and drove us uphill to Echo Lake, which was lovely. And on our way back down we came to The Little Bear Saloon. A friend of his was in a band playing there that night. There was a $10 cover, which is fine with me, it all goes to the band/bands. We got there at 7:30 and the band started at 7:30 so there wasn't any seating in the main room, where the band was playing (obviously this is common sense but it was how our schedule worked out). Don't worry, we got a booth in the next room and it was still plenty loud. Our server was great, funny, and made sure we had our needs met. The food: ok, it is not great food. My dining companions had burgers and pizza. I opted for a Greek salad as I had eaten an entire dish of pork belly at the Denver Zoo, I'll write that review separately, and I needed something that was not greasy. The salad, it wasn't a traditional Greek salad but I did definitely appreciate it. Since the rest of the menu is rather limited and mostly pizza and burgers, I didn't know if it would be good. I'm kind of picky about lettuce. It was good though and I ate every bite, and also a slice of my daughter's pizza. The food overall was not very special and I wouldn't recommend making a trip here just for the food. But since we hadn't made a special trip here for the food I'm not taking off any points for that! It's a fun environment; the bands, the maximalist decor, the signed photos from so, so many musicians and bands that have played there over the years. Plus nearly every inch of the wood has been carved with the initials or names or messages from customers. I spent some time looking but only scratched the surface (so to speak) of exploring it all. The women's bathroom was a little bizarre, and according to the guys in my group the men's was even stranger. Everything was clean and functional so that was good. We all had a great time. My daughter bought a sweatshirt. On the train back to Omaha the conductor smiled and said "oh, the Little Bear Saloon? That's in Evergreen, right? Oh, I know that place!" He chuckled. My family and I stopped in while visiting the area because we wanted to check out this historic location and enjoy a drink. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. My 23-year-old daughter was refused service because staff claimed her valid Nevada driver's license was fake. We completely understand the importance of checking IDs and complying with liquor laws, but the way the situation was handled was unprofessional and unnecessarily rude. When I approached the bar to order a drink for myself and my daughter, I was largely ignored while staff discussed the situation amongst themselves. When my daughter presented her ID again, she was told it was fake because it did not pass a "flashlight test" and was sarcastically directed to a bar across the street that supposedly "accepts any IDs." What bothered us most was that multiple staff members openly discussed the situation in front of other customers and continued to watch and stare at our group throughout our visit. Rather than handling a concern privately and professionally, the interaction felt embarrassing, accusatory, and intentionally uncomfortable. If there was a legitimate concern about the ID, that would have been understandable. However, there is a professional way to address those concerns, and this was not it. The establishment itself has a lot of character, which is why we stopped in, but the customer service experience left such a negative impression that we will not be returning. read more

I am a native of Colorado. We like to bring our out of town guests here. Today was the first time I was embarrassed for them not sure if they are under new management or what is going on?! We wanted to order some appetizers, the waiter said they were out of more than half of the appetizers, so We ordered buffalo burgers and fries. The fries were cold, the burgers were so small and thin, they tasted like they were cooked on a dirty grill, burnt and bland! We complained after everyone agreed that it tasted bad. The waiter was understanding, he took them away, we ordered pizzas instead, the pizzas come out, they lacked any taste.... So disappointed because every time before the food was decent, drinks were good...The Little bear is a well known... well visited place. Man...I am a local, but haven't been here for quite sometime. I went last Sunday to see an old friend and his band play, the place is fun, atmosphere is great, the staff was on the ball. I was having a really great time, until I walked into the bathroom and just about puked!! They are absolutely horrific, the smell is putrid. I'm appalled at the fact that a place like this that attracts both locals and tourists can't update (or at least clean) their bathrooms, absolutely unacceptable, I won't be going back anytime soon soon. read more

Thank you Little Bear. I can't go to Casa Bonita since those cartoon guys bought it and 3 tacos cost $50 with a lottery to get in, but by God I can walk into the Little Bear and instantly be transported back to winter of 1980 and The Kamikazi Klones. Such a cool place with lots of history. They've had a really interesting mix of live music lately which is appreciated. This is more of a dive bar feel so I wouldn't go in expecting an elegant cocktail. Big downside is that some nights there's a cover charge that can only be paid in cash. New owners have a made a big difference. New chairs that don't fall apart, both stalls now work in the ladies room downstairs, and everything feels much cleaner. I had my bachelorette weekend up in Evergreen, and after plans of going out to Denver fell through, Evergreen bars were the only option. My girls and I had thrifted wedding dresses to go out in. The first bar we went to was very awkward and not lively, but as soon as we stepped into Little Bear the love band brought us on stage, the bartenders were so fun and talkative and the owner went out of his way to congratulate me on my upcoming wedding. Despite being nervous on the atmosphere of a mountain town bar, I had one of the most fun nights. We made some amazing memories and the live band was amazing. I felt so very celebrated by the staff and danced the night away. Would 100% recommend this bar for a fun night out! read more

This place is so much fun! They hire great bands from different genres and there are a million things to look at - photos of famous musicians and visitors, graffiti, bras from groupies... It's a MUST if you're in the area (Google its history while you're at it). ***Upstairs is the best vantage point to watch the bands, even though you have to get your own drinks and food from downstairs. They've spent a pretty penny on the sound system, which makes for an even better experience. I like their cheeseburgers and quesadillas. I'm guessing daylight would expose a litany of cobwebs and worse, but there's a lot to be said about temporarily forgetting about the stresses of life at a legendary dive. read more

Great little venue in the beautiful town of Evergreen, CO. This bar/restaurant is a cross between a biker bar and an old western saloon. The bar is covered with license plates from across the country and has bras hanging from the ceiling. They feature live music most days of the week which we found really entertaining. We went there for the opening day of the season, they hadn't been open for almost a year since COVID. Despite how busy the restaurant was and the few wait staff that were available they had great customer service. The menu is moderate, don't expect any gourmet meals here, it's a burger and taco joint. Both the drinks and the food were good. Perfect refreshments for an afternoon ride on the Harley. The great thing is this establishment is only an hour outside of Denver so you can be up there in no time and the scenery on the way is absolutely stunning. If you drive slow and take your time you're likely to see plenty of milk and mule deer. If you check out their webpage you can get an idea of what entertainment they have on what days. And if you have out-of-town family or friends this will definitely be a great place to take them for lunch or dinner to give them that feel of old Colorado! read more

I went here on a Saturday night while visiting Colorado on vacation. I wanted to give this venue 5 stars, because everything was pretty great about this place until I ordered drinks from the bar. I ordered a Coors Lite and first was charged $3 for a bottle, then the second time I went up, it was like the bartender didn't even know how much they charged because the 2nd time he charged me $4 for the same thing. Besides the confused bartender, the food was pretty good and our server for dinner was good. They had live music and the band that played had a good variety of music. I really liked the saloon atmosphere of the bar and there happened to be live music playing which was a nice treat. The food is okay but expected for a dive bar but I will say that the beer selection wasn't great at all - there wasn't much to choose from and three of the taps had been recently kicked which kind of sucked. I have been to Little Bear several times to see bands. Having played in the Denver area for quite some time myself, I know a lot of these guys and like to support them. Little Bear has always been pretty much a cluster .... Horrible layout for bands, heavy covers (hope they share that with the bands), minimal seating, mediocre food (not bad though), light pours and horrible service. The good ... well, their drink prices are cheap. But you might as well order them two at a time since they will be weak and it will take forever to get another. Last Saturday I think was my last visit. I'm done. Typical lack of service. Go to bar to order food. Wait at bar for 5 minutes just to get a drink while the bartenders goof around with each other behind the bar. But I was there for the band. And they couldn't even get that right. Band had two guitarists. Bar has a house PA run by their own guy. All flippin' night couldn't hear the guitarist on the right and the guy on the left was too loud. And I know these guys well. They weren't touching their amps. Talked to them more than once so I know they talked to the sound guy. Stupid meter watcher wouldn't leave his "booth" for 3 minutes and listen with his ears. And I doubt it was a technical thing because the louder of the two was coming out both channels. Definitely not a channel thing. But, whatever, Little Bear will do just fine. They'll float long on the business from people who see some sort of appeal in this place. What they lose is someone like me who not only spends good money himself, but who brings people along and who people listen to for band recommendations. Whatever. It's Evergreen. Worst meal I've had in years. Looks like a good place for drinks. French fries were distinguishing. "The oil needs to be replaced." I regret going here on my day off. Good to know the Little Bear hasn't changed in years, except for more graffiti and things carved into the bar, the table tops, the barstools, the walls... you get the picture. Went up the hill to see The Substitutes (a The Who cover band) perform the entire Tommy album. These guys knocked it out of the park. A rollicking good time was had by all. Not bad for a $6 cover. I would check the website or call to check on the cover, as it varies from $0-$15. This place is just gross. It must've built its reputation by hosting popular bands and by patrons loading up on bad beer to the point that they don't mind the abject filth and terrible food. I have no idea why this place is popular. I'm a local of 7+ years and have never understood the appeal. I've been to the Little Bear a couple of times but the service is arrogant and distracted, the taps are surely the lamest in Colorado, the food is barely palatable and the kitchen should be condemned by the health department. I hate to throw shade on a local but the Little Bear is just epically (EPICALLY) bad. I would only go back after the place is scraped by a bulldozer. read more

This review may have gotten 4 stars if the fries lived up to their name- crispy fries. They were soggy. But the burger was 4 star. I enjoyed the patty melt burger that came on thick rye bread that didn't fall apart and had tons of awesome sauteed onions and Swiss cheese. I would go back for the burger if I were in the area. 2 1/2 stars. Yes, it's a "quaint" mountain bar that has live music, but does that mean it's okay to never, ever, ever clean the place? I went for lunch with the BF and boy was I happy that I wasn't hungry. Just looking at the floors made me itchy. There were pieces of cheese, tortillas and all sorts of food crumbs in every little nook I saw-- and there are a lot of nooks. Really, there was food stuck in the name carvings on the tables. The floor looked as if it hadn't been mopped in decades. The burger he got tasted good, and the fries were okay even though they were a little overcooked. They have good fountain coke if that's what you're into (I am). Next time I want to sit in a filthy bar I'll just sneak a flask into Waffle House and call it a day. read more

I'm a proud Colorado Native & I remember coming up to the Little Bear years ago in my younger days....Little Bear was the place to be! We now live in Evergreen & thought we would stop in for lunch, It hasn't changed a bit in all these years except they must of run out of room to carve your name or graffiti in any & all conceivable locations in the bar now with defaced fun dollar bills! We ordered the "Tourist" burger for lunch which were huge, cooked to perfection & delicious! Little Bear is the perfect mountain town bar\grill to visit if you're passing through Evergreen to see a little bit of Colorado history & enjoy seeing all the pictures of Stars who have played there & for the Coloradan's who haven't been here in a while it's worth the trip to walk down memory lane or make new memories you'll never forget, like we did. read more
