Little Bear Inn has been operating on the outskirts of Cheyenne since 1958. Despite coping with ownership changes, fires, Covid shutdowns and bad economies, this restaurant is a survivor. The decor is part rustic, part casual, part strange, but very comfortable in a cozy way. It's probably as close to "fine dining" as you'll find in the Cheyenne area, with a high-end "country club" menu that doesn't look like it has changed much in 65 years. I mean, where else would you find Frog Legs in a Rocky Mountain restaurant with the Glenn Miller Orchestra and Perry Como on the background music? Steaks, chops, chicken, fish & shrimp will give any diner an array of choices. Everything we ordered was really very good (see pictures), not spectacular, but taste and quality was well worth the price. And, the bar knows how to mix great cocktails! Plus, service was OUTSTANDING, with our waitress, Cheyenne (seriously), who could not have been more helpful & pleasant all evening. Bottom line: I'm giving Little Bear Inn 4 solid stars, with one caveat if you'd like to get to 5 stars: I'm asking management to do a little more on plate presentation. The food is great, but it's served as if we are in a cafeteria, with no thought in the kitchen to making it "look pretty" before it gets to the table. I'm sure the kitchen can do better with some effort. A little more attention to making your dishes look as good as they taste would go a long way to keeping customers happy. I'll definitely be back, but I'm hoping for just a little more effort in dish presentation. read more

Happened to find they were serving Mother's Day Lunch because I picked up a Trader when we were in Cheyenne earlier that week. Always wanted to try but usually finish appts/errands in Cheyenne and are headed home before it opens. Lunch was fantastic, all staff was super nice. Steak was perfectly cooked and spring asparagus was delicious. Figured we were already coming south, to Guernsey, for church so it probably would be a nice day to take a drive. A staple if you visit Cheyenne. Looks tiny from the outside but isn't. Has a separate brand bar worth seeing and a giant stuffed bear. Old school supper club feel. I've always been when there is live music but it's not too loud, and always good. Steaks are the best choice- it's Wyoming- but fish has been good too. We took family from elsewhere so we talked them into Rocky Mtn Oysters (which aren't oysters) and definitely had the bear balls I've cream dessert. Little Bear is hometowny and casual while still being a rich dinner. Lots of birthday parties and families coming in from the area ranches and neighborhoods. This place is really cute and staff is absolutely the friendliest! We dined here on Friday night with friends and enjoyed some great music too. When you sit at table they bring you fresh yeast rolls!!!! Omg so good. Plus a fresh relish tray- what a treat. Both guys got the chicken fried steak and loved it. The mashed potatoes were good but their sweet potato fries were outstanding. I got the filet mignon. It was cooked to order and tender but flavor was slightly lacking. I'll give it a 2 star rating because the side salad was crisp and fresh. Two of us ordered the stuffed Norwegian salmon. It was over cooked and the "stuffed" part was actually a layer of slop on top of the salmon. It was advertised as crab and artichoke but it just tasted like hot mayo. It was readily scraped off. We go out to eat some meals, and honestly after last night it's the best place for a steak in Cheyenne. Steaks have been tender and cooked as ordered both times I have visited The Little Bear Inn steakhouse. Both times have been on Friday when a band sang old country songs while we ate. Pickled veggies and bread rolls for munching to start off(complementary). Fried mushroom appetizer was fresh battered and not frozen. Mashed potatoes are peppery but good. Little Bear Inn has been a favorite restaurant for many years. Last night was my birthday day so we went there expecting a fabulous meal as usual. Unfortunately, my steak was blue, I ordered it medium well. The meal was returned not once but twice. When it finally came back, the rest of my family had finished eating so I took dinner home. Although they didn't charge for the meal, the waitress commenting "I hate when this happens " did not help. Our drinks came out one at a time as did the food. Really?? The restaurant is beautiful and very well done but it did not make up for a horrible dinner. It is higher recommended you get a cook who knows how to make a proper steak since Little Bear is a steak house. Learn to use a steak thermometer!! My family and I will be eating at T-Joe's or the Albany in the future as those restaurants know how to make a perfect steak. read more

We were there many years ago and I had the fancy French fried lobster tail "local favorite", it was the best lobster I have had. The cold water tail was removed from the shell and breaded then deep fried to a light golden brown. Ordered the same thing last night $ 52.50 for the 7 oz. It was served butterflied this time way over cooked dark brown and looked like a chicken fried steak ( wish I had ordered that instead ) it was terrible . I did not want to make an issue in front of my date but I would not recommend it to anyone again. It is getting to the point where you can't eat at these local places anymore ( can't keep good cooks) as I always preferred them to the chains, at least with the chains you know what your going to get. read more

Sure, the restaurant is 6 miles up the I-25 from Cheyenne, but in many ways, getting out of town really sets the scene for a great dining experience. Little Bear is an iconic establishment that was recently rebuilt all shiny and new after a fire a few years back. It is a large restaurant with 3 separate dining rooms as well as a separate full bar, stage for live music and dance floor. To be clear, this is a steak house in the heart of steak country. There are seafood items offered on the menu, but as my father taught me long ago: "you don't order shrimp in frikkin' Wyoming". Better general advice has seldom been given. Seating was prompt and welcoming, from the owner herself. She sat our party of 5 adults in one of the three dining rooms and the ambiance was quiet and intimate, but the restaurant was comfortably busy given the Sunday night during the Cheyenne Frontier Days hoopla. Normally, they do take reservations, but during CFD that is suspended and seating is first come, first served. In any case, we had no problem at 6pm and when we left, it still appeared to not be a problem getting a table. Service was very prompt. The bread delivered to the table were warm roll-ups of what seemed to be flakey croissant-like consistency. They went fast and another basket quickly materialized. The menu is heavy on steak offerings, New York strip, filet, T-bone, rib eye, etc. they come in a variety of preparation, with garlic encrusted, peppercorn, mushroom/gravy, etc. Our table ran the gamut, each having something different and all were delicious. All meals are complete with soup or salad, baked potato, pilaf or other sides, etc. so the fact that the dinner is $25-$29 for the premium steaks isn't bad considering that you won't face all those incidental charges just to get more than a slab of beef on a plate for dinner. A side note, many of the salad dressings are homemade and the ranch dressing is spectacular. For starters, there are multiple offerings that all sounded good and were appropriate for the erudite diner, but really do try the house specialty Rocky Mountain oysters. They were breaded, hot small bite size pieces (no puns intended) and were tasty. For some in our party, we just said it was calamari. Easy sell to the newby victim. Honestly, it was delicious and more than just a checkbox for bragging rights. Dessert fare was also broad, but we also settled on the house specialty, "Bear Balls". These were not in any way related to appendages on a large, carnivorous mammal. They are served two-up and consist of vanilla ice cream rolled in ground Oreo cookie crumbles. Simple, tasty and fun for the shock factor, especially after the local oysters! The folks serving tables were really great and fun. They really helped make the meal memorable. We weren't rushed, service was prompt and warm. Also, the clientele at Little Bear were REAL cowboys, not the drugstore dudes and posers from metropolitan USA. They all showed proper etiquette and doffed their beautiful hats when seated. If you're visiting from the city, catch a clue! My only constructive criticism was the "Cadillac Margarita" offering in the drink/wine menu. It was anything but a Margarita. With such a lovely stocked bar (including Hendricks Gin), it was a shame one couldn't get a real and great marg to go with a great steak. The wine selection, especially for reds, was noteworthy especially given the location. Kudos to the management on the choices. read more

Had a 6 pm reservation. Left at 8 pm without food. They said they were too busy and we would be there at least another 20 minutes. Every other table turned over around us. Well I'm here to update my last review and upgrade the rating to 4 stars. The biggest reason is due to the non-smoking throughout the whole establishment which has made a huge improvement. They also updated the lighting so you now can see your friends and family across the table. The food was very good and a lot of food. They offer veggie trays for preorder snaking. The deep fried mushrooms were huge. The steaks were well prepared and the lobster tail was a nice size. The fried shrimp were huge like the mushrooms. They also provided bread. Red wine Salad was very good. They are still a little pricey but well worth the cost. Highly recommend. read more

I had my 80th Birthday dinner with family and close friends at Little Bear on 10/19 2023!! Absolutely everything during the time we walked in to the moment we left the parking lot was like being in heaven!!! Our main waitress, Cathy was superb!! All of the food served was fixed to each guests' liking!! The ages ran from 3yrs to 80 yrs!! It had been at least 50 years since I had been here and what a surprise at the new surroundings! I was shocked but in a good way. The surroundings, staff and food could not have been better anywhere else!!! I will definitely be back and recommend the best of everything to anyone I can. We had a great waitress never had to ask for anything As for the food I have heard great things about Little Bear inn and finally coming through at a time we could stop I ordered shrimp scampi and did not think it had much flavor I even had my mom try it and it was definitely missing some garlic the table next to us had ordered the shrimp scampi and they were saying the same thing that it was missing flavor like garlic along with the T bone steak we had ordered . This place was amazing! My wife and I came up from Denver for her birthday and had a wonderful time. The food was so good, and the service was even better! We thought our server was the owner because he was taking such good care of us. He even told my wife about the history of the photos around the restaurant and what the pictures meant to the community. Our steaks were perfectly cooked, and the mashed potatoes were so flavorful. They even surprised us with a bear paw dessert for her birthday! HUGE scoop of ice cream covered in oreo chocolate with a wonderful sauce. This is my husband's favorite steakhouse ever. To be fair, his family has been going here since the 1970's. He practically grew up here. Now that we live out of state, we always come back to Little Bear every time we go to Wyoming. His favorite foods are- rocky mountain oysters, french onion soup, brandy ribeye steak, and bear balls for dessert. I am not a native Wyomingite, and I find the steaks to all be top notch as well. I like my steaks rare, and they do an excellent job of preparing it to my liking. The service is homey and friendly as well. Ordered the pan fried northern pike walleye, as that is what it was listed on the menu. What they gave me was deep fried fish, what wasn't walleye. The breading was so salty that I couldn't eat it. The fish was raw inside. The waitress said once I told her the fish was raw in the middle that if she had known that she wouldn't have served it to me. No kidding!! So I went to little bear restaurant last night and wow what a change is very inviting the place looks great it has been redone but looks are not everything. the service was great and I am the type I want service now. sat me and my wife down service was prompt and welcoming WOW what change. then we order me a rib eye rare for the wife the lobster, appetizer artichoke crab dip. oh yea and beer. food came in a timely manner at let me say this it was great the steak was cooked prefect lobster assume service beyond great. this is a place you have go to and enjoy a quite low key atmosphere. with great food and people. thank you for the experience. With the weather affecting our travel plans, my wife was scrambling for a place that could accommodate a last minute reservation for a party of six on new years eve and The Little Bear came through for us! From the appetizers to the main course, everything was fantastic, and between the six of I think we covered every food group on the menu. It was the staff though that really made the evening enjoyable. Everyone knew their job and was on point. The waitress had my kids laughing hysterically, cracking jokes about the frog legs that I had for an appetizer and the busser did a great job refilling drinks and taking empty plates. The owner made several trips to our table as well, which in my opinion, demonstrates great leadership skills. He also personally brought out their famous "bear balls" for desert after someone in our party tipped off the staff about it being my birthday. As we were leaving, the band had just began to play and they sounded good! I could tell the fun was just getting started and was wishing we could have stayed longer. Headed for the door we were thanked by many of the staff members and the owner shook our hands as if we were old friends. The Little Bear family created a very special evening for my family and I will highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a top-notch steak and seafood place with a humble and friendly environment. read more

Well, I guess I will say it was an odd experience. The food is decent and my steak was tender. Decent wine list, but a bit pricey. what surprised me the most was the service. Our waitress seemed bratty and unprofessional. We were a large, fun group, but her sarcasm was a bit out of place. We had people in town from 4 or 5 different cities and I don't feel it was a very good representation of Cheyenne. Maybe it's because it's a huge plate with high quality proteins. Well... NO mY salmon was over cooked, farm raised, and small. This is the best place you will find near Cheyenne without going to chain. Upon entry you will find a stuffed grizzly bear (sounds about right) and they have a dance floor where country dancing resides. The steaks are great and really fresh. Sides come somewhat of a cafeteria style and the place seems to be huge. Full bar, which is a definite plus and the servers are super nice.
