Just so that we're clear, I am reviewing the Craft Beer Oktoberfest that Listermann hosted at their brewery October 18 & 19. My husband and I found the event information on their Facebook page and decided to go and check it out on the Friday night of the festival. As we found out, it was Free Food Friday (!!) with free brats and mets. When we got here, we had to park in the gravel lot across the street and walk over to a very tiny area with tents and porta pottys where the actual festival was. We learned from overhearing others, we had to wait in a forever long line to get a wristband and tickets in order to get the beers. Uh, really? We waited in line for about 30 minutes, to get up to the ticket booth where we were then bombarded with so many different choices of tickets. They had 5 oz tickets, 16 oz tickets (but two different glasses), 16 oz refill tickets, 22 oz tickets, 22 oz refill tickets... gah! And if you ask them what they recommend you do, the volunteers just look at you like you have 16 heads. Ok so we muddle our way through the tickets and make our way to the food line. That moved pretty quick and we got a brat and a met and stood off to the side to eat real quickly. After we got a beer and walked back outside, my husband and I decided that we wanted to get some pulled pork as well, but as it turns out.... they were completely out. At 7 pm. And they had only one food truck on site that was serving up "for purchase" food. Sigh. We frequent the Craft Beer Fests that are hosted downtown in both the winter and summer seasons, and they are much more organized than this was did. Since we had our dog with us, (yes, this was a pet and kid friendly event) we decided to stand outside of the tent due to stay away from the extremely loud music that was being played inside. It was a good second attempt, but next year expand the square footage of the festival, and if you're going to make it dog and kid friendly, offer some thing for them. Like maybe some bowls of water around the festival for them. I've never been to a dog-friendly event that didn't offer at least a water station... Even the restaurants that have dog-friendly patios will bring you a bowl of water and a milkbone. We probably won't come back next year, if they have it again, just because we weren't impressed and spent more time trying to figure out what we needed to do and less time actually getting to enjoy it. Oh and they definitely needed better security... as soon as word got out that there was free food, we saw a multitude of freeloaders standing in the lines to get a free brat or met, and then walk right back out to Dana Avenue and continue on their way. Maybe the organizers should spend less time smoking in the RV and more time hosting the event. read more

I've been coming to Listermann before they were a brewery, back when half the building was a library. It was a little goofy back then, before the craft beer craze. They have the best variety of fresh malt and hops in town. Their beer is excellent. My only complaint or warning is to be careful if you are buying gift cards - my wife bought one for me in the bar while I was getting homebrew supplies and when I tried to use it, they said it was only for the bar. Different accounting systems? Regardless, we spent enough money on beer, growlers, and t-shirts to use it the next time we were there. Not a big deal, just be aware. I haven't tried their food but it looked and smelled great - typical bar food (wings, burgers, etc.) A hidden gem if you are from out of town and want to try some unique beers like Nutcase, Chickow, or one of their NEIPAs that are hard to come by outside their bar. read more

I walked into this place with no idea of what home brewing involved or required. The staff is so helpful and you don't feel like they are just trying to make a sale. I will admit, being inexperienced I am still working with the all-in-one kits they have but there are so many different recipes to try can you really blame me? So far, I have made their Steam style beer and the Nut Brown and both have been excellent. They have started selling some of their brews and there is even a fridge where you can buy some to try. The place is definitely just a warehouse and when you first walk in, it can be a little confusing about where the heck you are supposed to go (to the left, up some stairs and down a little hall). The new paint job on the outside definitely made it more visible and love that it is purple! read more

After a bad first impression a second chance showed very good beer with complex flavors. I tried the pinkys out and the Sabotage. Both were fantastic! read more

Listermann Brewing - Great beer. Crappy service. - Brewing Supplies Near Me - Cincinnati, Ohio

Great brewery is one of my favorites. Menu is usually full of NE IPAs as well as dark beer Chickow and all of the barrel aged variants are great. read more

My husband is a home brewer and so I'll write this on behalf of him. They have everything he needs to home brew including equipment, ingredients (including an amazing selection of hops) and maybe most importantly, the most knowledgeable employees around who are very willing to help out and answer questions. They also brew great beer and have a great little tasting room and throw some awesome parties on their lot with other local brewers. Cincinnati is very lucky to have a store like this in town! read more

My brother in law asked for brewing supplies for Christmas. The fact that one can drink and shop in one location is excellent! We stopped in, had a beer, and then shopped. The beers we sampled were really tasty and there were definitely some unique offerings on the menu. The brewing supplies are well priced and the staff is helpful. Good spot for Cincinnati beer buffs! read more

A diamond in the rough to grab a pint at. This local brewery not only offers a nice selection of homemade brews but you can buy everything your heart desires to make your own beer! They offer plenty of beer making kits and ingredients for everyone from a novice to expert. The chocolate peanut butter porter is one of my favorites! read more

One of the best beers I have tried is barrel aged Cranium( hard to find). This a good place for home brewing supplies. The staff is always helpful to questions and suggestions. They also have beer clubs and how to brew classes for beginners and advance home brewing. read more

a very simple little tap room attached to the much larger brewery. a few picnic tables, 4-5 wooden stools along what looks to be a store bought / prebuilt bar, a dog picture, & a fish tank! posters mainly decorate the simple yellow walls. also get a window towards xavier univ. the beer though is very good and you can bring in food. not a destination bar, but worth a stop to have a drink & fill a growler if near xavier. read more

See all

This place is pure awesome. First they have their own tap room of their own brew, probably about 8 or so taps. Second, they have all of the beer equipment you need to get started on making your own brew. The kits are about $40 bucks a pop and there is quite a variety. Plus the staff are really helpful and they offer classes on certain weeknights. Thank you Listermann's for being awesome read more

Great local craft beer plus the best home brewing supply shop in Cincy. With that combination five stars are easily earned.

Listermann Brewing Company has some of the best beer in town. Unlike other places, you have more selections that just what type of IPA you want. It's a small space and there aren't many taps. There's no kitchen but often times there are food trucks on site. Those are the only two things keeping me from giving it a five. If you're a beer fan you would do well to stop in and sample some Listermann's. read more

Fantastic beer and a fantastic crew to go along with it. Do yourself a favor and come check out one the best and most consistent breweries in Cincinnati. read more

I love this place! I buy all my home brew supplies here. They have a great selection and the fresh malt extract beats the canned extract any day. The guys who work here are cool to talk to and are happy to help out and lend advice. Now that they have their own beers available to buy and sample on site coming in is even more fun. read more

By far the best brewery in the city. Best beers, great staff great managers great brewers. Small intimate tap room with a great vibe.

First time there. It was great. I've known about this place for years, but this is the first time since they opened the taproom I have been in town. Great selection in beer. They do a great job with the taproom. I'd suggest a sheet of paper with the beers to help us remember what we're drinking. read more

I love the beer, but...... OK. If you are looking for good beer, this is the place for you. Arguably, Listerman's tops both mad tree and rinegheist in the Cincinnati area for fresh, innovative pints. However, if you journey to mad tree, you'll get great atmosphere and food. The crowd is happening, and it is always an adventure. Rinegheist, comparedly, is similar. Great beer and a great atmosphere with corn hole. Games to play. People to see. Listerman's....well. I'm sitting here now with a pint. They have great beer but ZERO ambiance or atmosphere. As I write this, bartender is half asleep watching Matilda on the TV (yes, Matilda the kids movie) and just refused a request to put on some music. We're sitting here playing Spotify on out own phone just to have something to listen to. Come for a drink, but not for the night, friends. read more

Listermann Brewing is my favorite brewery in the Cincinnati area. They always have quality, exceptional beers. There are also wide varieties of beers to choose from. I have had just about every beer they make and have never been disappointed. The staff are friendly and there's always something new in the taproom. read more

This place is tops. The staff is friendly, inviting and knows how to recommend a beer to those with the freshman loom in their eyes. The customers here are just as co and laid back as the folks who work there. Its awesome to see 60 somethings mingle with 20 some things and both to have good stories to tell. This place has mastered the heavy full flavored beer and is now edging out into lighter waters. Chickow is still the single best beer I have ever had. Cheers! read more

I've spent many nights hanging in the Listermann tap room. Great fresh beer and fantastic employees. Their passion for what they do in undeniable. You can always find exciting new beer to try and at reasonable prices. read more

this place is a great place to shop if you want to start brewing beer at home. they carry absolutely everything you need. their kits include everything. their syrups and ingredients are very high quality and they have a lot of varieties. it's fun to shop here. be sure to sign up for their online newsletter while you're there because they will send you coupons. listermann's is actually the cheapest brewery supply i've found--including online retailers with free shipping. i've made about 8 different types of their beer with two of their kits and i've been very pleased. read more

Across the street from Xavier University. Indoor and outdoor space. Has an old bar area which needs updating but has a great party room that seats approx 50-75 people. Service is hit or miss. Beers are well done read more

I picked up a Chilean grape juice bucket today. The staff person that I interacted with was very abrupt and rude. Disappointing. I have been purchasing wine buckets and wine kits from Listermann Brewing Company for over ten years, and this rude behavior was an unpleasant shock. read more

A major cincinnati brewery with a hometown vibe. The best part has to be the "spicy" bartener that was there last saturday. Took the time to show everyone in the group the beer list, and expanded our understanding of the beer. read more

Came in on a Sunday afternoon. No one else was around, so I waited for a server. I thought the place was kind of dirty. But, I wasn't keen on the rat traps around the outside of the building either. After 10 minutes, I decided to leave. No one ever appeared. read more

I visited with my son. He thought it was great, I thought different. I can see where younger folks would go for it. But, us "older" types need some amenities. I need, at least, clean. The bathroom was a crime. Bending my mature knees around picnic table setting was less that optimum. My overall description would be frathousesque. The beers had interesting names, which seems to be a have-to thing with all these places. I thought the names were more complex than the beer. I think this one's for the kids. read more

Recently I have gotten into brewing beer. I like beer and I want to make my own. But I had no idea where to start. Luckily, I live near Xavier University whose neighbor Listermann Brewery is the place to start the journey of brewing. It did not look like much from the outside. But inside, it had everything. Every possible brew kit you could want. Want something that tastes like Bud Light? They go it. Want something that tastes (better) like a Belgian Ale? Yep, they have it. The staff are super helpful. And walked me through the whole set up. And even gave me entrance to free classes next month. And considering my childhood home still has that burnt mark on the ceiling from my first chemistry kit, I will need that class. Even if you don't want to make beer, just go. See this place. It a gem in the Queen City. Plus you will strike up a conversation with the guys who work there. And somehow in a couple of hours, you will be buying a kit. It is that addicting. read more

I don't know why it has taken me so long to write a review for this place! I have been here so many times and everyone who enjoys craft beer in Cincinnati should have an appreciation for what these guys have done and continue to do in the industry. I lump in Tripe Digit Brewing into this review as they make one of my favorite beers period, Chickow! They also have other solid offerings and have three beer festivals per year in which they invite most of the other local craft brewers and several food trucks and live entertainment to come and celebrate a lot of what makes Cincinnati pretty special. So if you're in the area I highly recommend to stop in for Chickow! or Peanut Butter Porter, you'll be glad you did. read more

If you are a homebrewer or looking to get into it, this place has the best selection for equipment and ingredients, and the only store with a grain room. The tap room is just ok, probably better for people from the neighborhood for a local kind brew watering hole. read more

Tap room was awesome and beer was great, but it's extremely LOUD. Go when the cincy beer tour is not there. Too loud to even enjoy it.

Love Listermans just wish they were open later. I know a lot of grad students that would walk over after class ends at 9-9:30 for a few brews. read more
