We had a great dining experience at Lisboa à Noite ("Lisbon at Night"). We found this restaurant through TheFork app, as part of TheFork's Insider program. The restaurant was lovely -- sleek, modern, minimalist, with elements of traditional Portuguese architecture integrated throughout. The softly playing background music was English light rock on repeat. Dishes we ordered included: - "Sardinha assada em tosta de broa de milho e salada montanheira" ("Fresh grilled sardine fillet on toasted cornbread and mountain salad") €16.90. De-boned, but not my thing. - "Ostras nacionais ao natural" (Oysters). €22.90. Great. - "Arroz de marisco com lagosta, camarão-tigre, gambas e amêijoas do Algarve (2 pessoas)" Seafood Rice for 2 people with lobster, tiger shrimp, prawns, and clams. €79.90. Great. This came in a covered pot hat the waiter portioned and served. There were about four servings total from this dish. Each serving had a good amount of lobster, shrimp, and clams. My sparkling green wine paired nicely with this dish. Service was impeccable. For example, they: - placed a stool beside my chair to separately seat my phone and camera. - cleaned the tablecloth when my companion stained it with red wine. - held my backpack in a secure room while we ate. I thought the restaurant was a little pushy on dessert. We weren't thinking of dessert because our tourist diet already had too much sugar from too many Pastéis de Nata, but we relented. Ate here recently on the recommendation of a former employee of the restaurant who is a friend of mine. The experience overall was very good. This is a high end experience. From the moment you walk through the door until that giant desert display comes around you will be lavished with luxury, great food and service. Our party was five people and we all enjoyed our dishes. While we all were a little under dressed I would suggest at least business casual. I haven't written a comprehensive review in over 2 years (previously Yelp elite for 5 years), but I truly feel compelled to share an opinion here. Tldr: there are many 5 star and highly rated reviews here, but I wholeheartedly disagree, here is why: We came here on our fifth and final day of our Lisbon trip, hoping to conclude our vacation with an excellent dinner. Little did we know that we would have the objectively worse dining experience of our entire trip. As soon as we got seated, our server asked if we would like to have a pre-meal beverage. We were surprised by this as they could and should have just given us a drinks menu first. Glad that we didn't agree to an initial round of beverages after knowing how the price point for the rest of the meal would be. They then offered bread, butter, and olives for the table, and we obliged only to then be a bit stunned that it was about 6 euros per person! For reference, if you visit a Portuguese grocery store, a large loaf of bread can be less than 2 euros. On top of this, the bread was stale. We quickly realized that this restaurant may not be cut out for what we were looking for and decided to at least try some starters before commuting to entrees. We skipped out on drinks entirely- the lowest priced bottle of wine was 75 euros here, which is more expensive than American prices. For reference, you can purchase a decent bottle of wine at a convenience store in Lisbon for 7-15 euros. We ordered three starters: fish soup, fried sardine starter, and seafood trilogy. The fish soup was honestly adequate for around 12 euros. I likely wild order this again (but again, I will never return to this establishment). The fried sardine starter was quite bland and overpriced for 26 euros. The seafood trilogy was the nail in the coffin that led us to request our check immediately. For 28 euros, we were served about 8 clams, 3 scallops, and 4 prawns that were seasoned in what tasted like plain butter. It is something that my 15 year younger self could have chef-ed for a fourth of the price point- not something I would have expected to be served by such a "fine" establishment. Our entire party was stunned by this dining experience and the fact that it came out to 99 euros for what amounted to minimal food and stale bread. Once again, I'm a bit bewildered there are so many 5 star reviews for this place, when we had THE complete opposite experience. Know that this could be you too. I would highly recommend dining elsewhere to forgo the risk of this. Cheers! read more

My favorite restaurant in Lisbon for the food. The goat cheese pastry appetizer was perhaps the best thing I've ever eaten, spoken as a San Francisco foodie. The whole branzino (sea bass) baked in salt was also exceptional with a little tableside flair (see pic). Service was on point and friendly. Had a wonderful meal here January 2023. The duck was perfectly cooked and seasoned, as was the steak we got. I loved the dessert cart presentation as well! Our last night in Portugal and we stumbled upon a hidden gem. This place is absolutely stunning but you wouldn't know this from looking from the outside (NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER). I started out with the Sea Trilogy which has caramelized scallops, garlic shrimp, fresh clams with lemon. My guest had the Fish and seafood curry with coconut milk and spices. We celebrated with a cosmopolitan and a margarita with grand marnier. The food was absolutely delicious. We ended our Christmas holiday in a restaurant with great ambience and great food. Our Ritz Hotel concierge had recommended this restaurant and provided us with 8:30pm reservations. This restaurant is located in an exquisitely restored wine cellar in a neighborhood called Bairro Alto. The Alto is full of bars and clubs that screams with high evening energy in a trendy hip locality. Lisboa a Noite is known for their typical Portuguese seafood and popular cod fish specials. Other meu items that were brought to my attention included octopus carpaccio with orange pepper vinaigrette, tiger prawns flambéed in whisky and served with lobster risotto, loin of fresh tuna sautéed in olive oil garlic, and caramelized sea scallops. I chose the sardine appetizer and octopus as an entree which were both wonderful. Others in my party chose the shrimp scampi and Cod Special which all were delicious. But all our appetizers and entrees were not to be seen until the second bottle of wine. Although the food was coming out slow, one could not avoid enjoying the vibrant ambiance that existed within the restaurant. Also the constant attention by what I believe was the owner. What is also fabolous about this restaurant is that they will accommodate those that are not fish lovers with menu items such as Portuguese style chicken rice in red wine sauce or tenderloin steak gratin with cheese. When dinner comes to an end, out comes the trolley of deserts which I never resist. I simply have no comments on desert since I love everything with the word desert in it. read more

High-end dining in Lisbon. A bit pricey compared to other options nearby, but the food and service were great. The seafood was also a bit over-cooked (shrimp tapas and fish rice in particular), which is the only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars. If 4.5 was an option, I think that's appropriate. The salted cod trilogy was incredible - probably the best cod I had during a 2 week trip through Portugal. It definitely has an upscale feel, but most patrons were dressed casually, with a good mix of large parties and pairs. read more

One of the best Lisbon restaurants! We had a party of 8 and couldn't be happier with the service and the food. Our server even escorted one of us to their wine cellar to select the wine we had with our meal. The food is fantastic, we had the appetizers of Scallops, Octopus, and Fried green beans were all delicious. The entrees of the mixed grill and sea bass was amazing. This restaurant was a recommendation for a large group, sit down meal. I would say this restaurant is more on the luxurious side especially considering the excellent table service and staff attentiveness. We had a port and tonic prepared table-side prior to our meal as well as a plethora of desserts prepared table-side at the end of our meal. Truly a lovely dining experience. Some of the items I personally enjoyed were the Scallops from the Starters Menu and Mixed Seafood for two. I would also recommend the Mushrooms from the Starter Menu. It was difficult to decide on entrees, so our large group of 10 tried a variety of plates. You can find anything from seafood, to red meat and vegetarian options here. I would definitely recommend a reservation ahead of time regardless of group size. This restaurant is physically on the smaller side, so accommodating diners by reservation is best. The area this restaurant is located in is a walk from a main road, and I cannot speak to parking availability. So essentially plan ahead of you have to park, or consider ride-share options like an Uber or taxi to play it safe. There are steps into the restaurant, and narrow spaces, so keep this in mind for wheelchair accessibility. read more

I arranged a group dinner for my team visiting Lisbon. I had a few phone calls to preset the menu, as I had to work within a certain budget. The dinner and the entire evening was phenomenol! We had a choice of welcome drink, a Couvert was set on the table (cheese, ham, bread/butter/olives) Starter was a trilogy of octopus salad and sauteed shrimp and scallop. The presentation and the taste was fantastic. Since we're in Lisbon, we need to partake from the bounty of the sea, no? Main course was salt-crusted sea bass. The presentation also was great - they brought out 7 fish, all still in flames.... the salt brick was cracked, the fish was filleted and served, and we enjoyed the meal. We then went to dessert, which were somewhat like petit fours, representative sweets from across the country, and we finished off with some absolutely phenomenol vintage port - this was also presented as a "show" - the bottle was opened in the "traditional way". Great Portuguese food, the wait staff is professional and supportive, the management is always gracious and they have the best sommelier in Portugal. A wonderful and must dining experience in Lisbon. Then you can walk outside and you are in a wonderful walking area full of restaurants, charming walking streets, cafes and pubs. We had a chicken pie that was too salty, grilled prawns flamed in cognac and clams risotto that was not outstanding and a roast duck that again was fairly standard. Location: In Bairro Alto, a pretty happening part of town. If you're staying central, then you can walk. The place: Great space and decor - simple but classy without being pretentious. The goods: Well, literally everything we had was delicious. We shared a starter of grilled sardines that taste absolutely nothing like the shit you get in tins. Our waiter told us that sardines are in season until October, so we were in luck. The sardines were fresh and flavourful without being fishy. These were served on toast with a refreshing side of tomato and cucumber salad. My friend and I ordered the same main - the shrimp risotto with caramelized scallops. There was NO shortage of shrimps in the dish and these were fresh and bloody amazing. The scallops were so fresh, they practically melted in my mouth. The risotto was perfect. I should mention that we also ordered glasses of the rosé wine, which was very refreshing. For dessert, my friend had the strawberry panacotta which she loved - she said she could taste the fruit but that it was not overly sweet. I had the rice pudding - I'm usually not a fan but this was so goddamn good! Perfect portion, loaded with flavour that really pleases your palate. Awesome. Side note - the covers include bread, olives and cheese, and the waiter openly told us there was a charge but that he would take away what we didn't want. We kept everything because we walked 15K steps today and that was reason enough! Service: Great! Price point: For all that food and two glasses of wine, it cost 113€. Tucked away in a side street on the Barrio, this was a great treat for us. We both had the king prawn with Risotto and it was delicious. Biggest prawns I have seen and cooked firm without being rubbery. The rest of the seafood on the menu looked fresh and delicious. The food was incredible. We would go back despite the complaint below just for more of the food. The salmon with shrimp has a cream sauce that I would eat forever. The risotto was amazing. The curry was also delicious. Duck leg confit was only ok. Rice pudding was a nice light dessert. They put bread, butter, olives, and cheese on the table when you arrive without asking. This is not free, he let us know if we didn't want it he'd take it when he came back. The bread is about 4€ per person and the cheese is about 8€. I would have been upset by this odd trick but we wanted the bread and cheese anyways. The service was uncomfortable. The server was attentive and quick but unfriendly and short with us. Lots of attitude in his remarks. We think he didn't like us because we didn't order enough food? He seemed noticeably unhappy with our bottle of wine choice and when we chose our entrees he questioned why we didn't get more appetizers (we had a cheese board before dinner), and told us that the entrees came with no sides to encourage us to get more appetizers! In fact, the entrees all came with a vegetable and a starch, or just the starch in the case of the risotto and curry. The meals were huge! With that in mind, I don't like his lying to get us to spend more. On a Monday night at 9:30 there were other tables open, there is probably a wait on weekends. read more

Usually when I see more than 3 euro dollar signs I keep it moving but for some reason the idea of a final fancy meal intrigued me . We of course showed up late but they weren't ready for us so that was a win for the evening . A round of Portuguese style bubbly put my mind at ease as we were all very under dressed. We shared the scallops with champagne sauce and croquettes as apps and we each ordered various entrees . Tiger prawns , whole fish and salmon in puff pastry. We all enjoyed our meals and along side our perfectly decanted bottle of wine. Service was great from start to finish. I can't recall his name but he did an excellent job at explaining and making recommendations. Though impersonally would have wanted to be a little more dressed up we didn't feel any shade from the staff I think if we were state side my friend wearing chucks would have been an issue . Really good restaurant in the heart of Lisbons Bairro Alto district. An oasis of class and more fish than anyone can dream of. We made this location our first meal in this city by the sea. First impressions were that here is where you eat great fish. In typical Portuguese fashion, bread, butter olives and cheese were placed on our table but the waiter informed us that if we touched them we pay extra and if not, nothing was charged. It's a strange system to us both because you are left wondering how long this food is sitting out and exposed to various elements or someone's sneezes, no thanks! We ordered their version of crab cakes over greens to start which was delicious, as a starter it was quite small but tasty absolutely! For mains we both got cod fish, his in an olive oil sauce and mine with a cornbread crust and black olives. Both were huge and placed on top potatoes and greens. To say this was good would be a gross understatement, this was amazing. I could barely finish it. We had a young local white wine to go with it which was perfect. We skipped dessert, ordered coffees and they brought us out a complimentary after dinner shot of cherry liquor which was beautifully presented. In a small alley in the old charming part of Lisboa, appeared this perl of a restaurant up. We where some guys together, and were guided into the back room where the next was medieval atmosphere at a huge table in the center. The waiters knew their stuff, it was a pleasure from the time we came to we went. The waiters were extremely good at helping one to the perfect dish. We got several dishes, wine, a welcome drink and a cherry dessert wine (I'm not usually the not into that stuff, but this was a traditional from this area and was actually not bad). The menu was on seafood, shrimp that were the size of a man's hand and everything was lavished by - cook'd to perfection, not raw, not rubbery - perfect with lots of flavor and juice. The place was absolutely not expensive - on the courage, compared to what we got, I would say cheap. This is the experience worth it if you are in Lisboa. read more

Fantastic! Such an intimate setting, great environment. One of those places that you only learn about from locals, we've been many times with customers/friends. A really great place to go after a hard day's work, have some nice wine, nice selection of cheeses, and then wide selection for the main course.
