Personally I felt this was a waste of money. In my opinion, The MC was rude and demeaning to several of the women who were up on stage and spent most of the time demanding tips. The performers did a good job, but the majority of the show was like a combination of infomercial for their next shows, demanding tips, and the MC being lame. This show felt like it was focused on getting money for the sake of money, at the expense of even trying to put on a performance. I had been meaning to go to Lips for years. When my son and his boyfriend came to visit, we grabbed my husband and went for Sunday brunch. Wow! do these performers have a lot of energy. The place was crowded kind of like your average comedy club but still plenty of room to eat and drink. All tables are good tables so no worries there. The performers weave through the room dancing so everyone gets a chance to see and tip them. Other reviewers said they felt pressured to tip. I mean they live off tips, but you can tip however much you want. It's not like they are going to throw you out. I think our table of 4 tipped a total of $20 all in ones. When I asked our server if change for a $20 was enough. She said, they would be coming back by to give change if we needed more. I didn't feel pressured at all. There are a lot of birthday groups (of all ages), bridal showers, and tourists. My boys may have been the only gay couple in the audience! The performers never embarrassed anyone or made anyone feel awkward. (I'm always worried about being called out at these types of things.) They did a good job balancing the comedy. Okay, this place is fabulous. I was a little hesitant when I arrived because it looked like a hole in the wall in a shady neighborhood, but it was such a good time. The ladies were amazing and served so much sass and sexiness. The performances were just so good! The drinks were a little weak, but the food was delicious. I really wanted to love this place as it was my first experience at a drag show but I was sorely disappointed. I came here on a Friday night with a group of friends for their 9:30 PM show. We arrived at 9:30 and waited in line for 15 minutes, then once we got inside we had to wait another 15 minutes to be seated. Our server/queen didn't come to take our order for at least 20 minutes while she was mingling with other tables and didn't even acknowledge us at all in that time so we didn't know what was going on. After we ordered our food, we just sat at the table for an hour and waited for the show to start and all of us were getting really hangry at this point. Our server only came by once or twice for less than 5 minutes at a time to chat with us and was maybe halfway entertaining. She gave a lot of attention to the gay men at our table, and completely ignored the straight women. By the time our food arrived, it was almost 11:30 and the servers delivered it in the middle of the first performance. I got the chicken roulade, which tasted pretty average but I was so hungry I didn't care at that point. There was only one more performance after that, and then the host did this whole long dragged out segment of bringing all the "guests of honor" to the stage to take pictures. The dance performances were less than 5 minutes each, and this whole picture thing was over an hour and not interesting at all. The host made jokes that were kind of rude, including being kind of racist and derogatory. She called out one of the guests for getting divorced after being married for 25 years and the woman was really uncomfortable and the room got quiet when the host wouldn't stop jabbering on. At this point my table had enough and we just got up, paid at the bar, and left because we were so irritated. For a $10 cover and $15 minimum on food I was expecting a lot more. I didn't pay cover to hear crappy jokes and look at people getting their pictures taken and I certainly didn't expect it to take 2 hours for my sub-par dinner to arrive. read more

I did it.. I came to Lips. As a San Diego native and a gay man.. I wasn't proud of the fact that I hadn't been to the wonderful drag establishment. I had to make reservations a few days prior since we had about 25 of us going.. yes.. we were rolling deep!! Haha. You have to make a ten dollar per person deposit if you have a large group. I chose the 1:30 pm slot since I knew that my amigos and I would be a little on the hungover side the day after my 40th shindig. Oh my gawd!! We had a freaken blast!!!!! It was the perfect ending to my birthday weekend. Our waitress was hilarious, beautiful, rude (you pay for them to be rude) and absolutely uuuhhhmazing. They had several brunch shows, but I'm sure they are all amazing. The drag queens put on such an entertaining show and the nun host is absolutely hilarious. If you get get easily offended, don't come!! Be ready to laugh your butt off. The show doesn't really start until 40-60 minutes after they sit you however the waitress (who is in drag and a performer) will keep you entertained. The food was decent. I mean you don't come for the food but was pleasantly surprised that my chicken fried steak was tasty. I heard the burger was just ok but didn't hear any complaints from my guests. The price was great. You can't beat a twenty dollar price point. We ended up paying about 36 bucks per person after taxes, tips and shots. We thought it was well worth it. The show lasted about an hour and a half. We didn't stop laughing the whole time. The twenty dollar brunch comes with bottomless mimosas and bloody Mary's !! Your pick. They also do a great job to keep your glasses filled to the rim. I was feeling good in no time!!! I ended getting their slushy cosmo. It's 9.50 for the first one and becomes bottomless after the first. Wow!! Needless to say, I was feeling really fabulous !!! I would come back in a heartbeat next time I'm in San Diego!! SUUUUUCH A GREAT TIME!!!!! Stopped here on the way to TJ and it was pretty much the highlight of our weekend. Lola was beyond an amazing server. Paris was such a great entertainer and had us cracking up. The food was ok but who's really going for the food anyway. Ok, I knew going in that the food here was going to be average at best... but it was worse than bad. It was terrible! The salad was overdressed and the shrimp scampi linguine had no seasoning. I felt like I was eating overcooked box pasta covered in olive oil... because I was. The lasagna at least had some flavor, but it was also overcooked. I highly recommend eating before coming here, or at least grabbing some late night tacos afterwards. (1/5 stars) That being said, the show must go on! And the show was really fun! The divas were on top of their game. Their outfits, hair, makeup, and dance moves were absolutely fabulous! There's so much character, and the hostess/emcee was hilarious! Omg! I took both my daughters to Lips over the 4th of July holiday weekend and we all had a blast with those ladies. Honorable mention, Loona and BaBa. These ladies out did themselves. They were very personable and professional and they know how to have a good time. They treated my daughter with the utmost respect and showed her a great time. You cannot charge $25+ for a plate that has seafood on it if the seafood came from a frozen bag. People aren't lying when they say the food is horrible. Horrible is an understatement. My friend ordered an appetizer platter, and I ordered stuffed shrimp. Everything tasted straight out of a microwave meal from a dollar store. I can't believe I paid $40+ for this meal. Besides the food, the show is worth seeing. The queens are incredibly kind as well as the male waiters. The show has some memorable performances and good laughs. Even watching birthday girls and bachelorette parties of strangers on stage is a good time. We actually arrived during the middle of a show and didn't know how the place worked. What's LIPS? A hot pink, glitter packed, drag show unlinke anything I had ever experienced. Upon arrival you wait in line to be let in and greeted by a witty host or hostess. Then you're seated or offered to hit the bar prior to the show. There's a $5 cover charge and a $15 food minimum, if I'm not mistaken. The food here is DELICIOUS!! The dessert was unreal. The decor is all hot pink, glitter, and glam!! The queens are gorgeous and usually very friendly as long as you tip. Make sure to bring lots of ones or get change when you arrive. These queens perform their butts off for the tips! The show is packed with dance routines, funny jokes, and some of the most talented drag queens around. Lips is the perfect place for a birthday brunch, bachelorette party stop, or just fun with a friend. I recommend a 21+ group. Guys, it's fun for you too!! We ordered chicken tenders for appetizers and then I ordered the Ladonna's Monroe Salad with shrimp and both were so very good!!!! Chicken tenders were crispy and hot and my salad was fresh with tasty shrimp. Our server was Lolita and she was amazing. She is also a part of the show. The show was so funny and so fun to watch. I want to start this off by saying, we loved the show and everything about the atmosphere, it was just out service that was so bad. We all knew we weren't going to finish an entire plate of pasta so we asked if we could split each of the plates between us, and we're told that no matter what we would each be charged $43.95 so we each just got our own food. It was our friends birthday too, and we let them know, and it's never like you expect something out of a restaurant when you tell them, but they brought her a cupcake, and little did we know until we got the bill that the one singular cupcake would cost us $12. To go along with it, our server barely paid attention to us, and that's how it looked as though they were with the other tables. That upset us because other tables were able to laugh with their servers and ours was being beyond icy to us. I understand that sometimes you don't like you tables, but you should never treat them with disrespect and differently. To go back to the final price, we were each expecting to spend around $50, and then we found out the gratuity was forced and we had to give a 20% tip, even though honestly I think it was the absolute worst service I have ever had in my entire life. I understand you go for the atmosphere, but it kind of got ruined for us by the server being so icy and rude to us and then the night ending on a horrible note with the final price. Really good time at their show + bitchy bingo! The performances were fun with great lighting of course! The ladies run a really tight ship with dinner service though to keep everything running, so don't expect it to be like a regular dinner service: they won't take your salad utensils before the entree, will be suspicious if you don't want one of the courses/to order (I assume bc people try to stiff the bill, it's $30 flat of course,) etc. If you have $20 you can get that exchanged for 1s (only sets of $20 though,) and they have an ATM. Tips: Make sure you have gratuity for the performers in cash and include it for the servers and bar tenders on your bill. Don't go if you can't have a laugh, they make fun of others & themselves. It's on a residential street so the evening actually ends by 10pm! The drinks are really strong! Fun spot, especially for a girls night out! Everything about the restaurant is upbeat and colorful. I recently attended on a Friday night; it all starts with dinner and with several menus to choose from, our party selected from the "prix-fix menu" which provides a three course meal for $24.95. I was impressed at how large the portions were and how quick the service was. When dinner was just about over, the show began and the divas were fabulous! They all seemed to really love what they do and projected that in their performances. You are sure to laugh and have a great time. We had an absolute blast, the performers were thoroughly entertaining and literally worked their asses off, food was very good and the whole experience was great. Not sure what the cheap-asses are talking about but I never felt pressured to tip - of course, we did and happy to! - but there was no pressure.
