He immediately assessed our group's vibe, realized we were out for team bonding, and invited us right in, securing a fantastic VIP booth for my team. After a few shots and grooving to great music, he personally ushered us over to Gaslamplighter for a change of scenery, where we spent the rest of the night enjoying amazing drinks and live karaoke. The experience was so incredible that on our second night out, after hopping around various other bars in the Gaslamp Quarter, our team unanimously decided to end our night right back at Side Bar. Once again, Keagan took flawless care of us. He hooked us up with another booth and a few bottles. We happened to be celebrating a team member's birthday that night, and Keagan made it unforgettable. The staff brought out the full VIP treatment with bright sparklers and "Happy Birthday" signs to close out the night in style. What makes Keagan so special is his attention to detail. Even while working a packed club and making his rounds to ensure everyone was taken care of, he constantly circled back to check on our group. He made every single person on our team feel incredibly important and looked after on both nights. We walked away with fantastic pictures, amazing team memories, and a strong desire to return. i have been here 2x now. both times i came in on a karaoke night, super excited about it because i see it all over instagram & tiktok. i own a karaoke DJ business myself, so i love checking out other places. both times that i have come in- the karaoke line moves SO slow. we came in tonight (9/26/26) and signed up immediately. i sang after about 45 mins- only after tipping off the KJ and introducing myself to him... the KJ himself is cool, but i just don't think he knows what he's doing. the mics were quiet, i couldn't hear anybody singing or any of his announcements. but he's a really good DJ and very nice so i'll give him that. then, it took 2 HOURS!!! before we finally went up to the kj and asked why my friends hadn't sang yet. they all signed up at the same exact time as me. i know he clearly bumped me up to be nice, which is great. but there's just no reason why it should take over 2 hours for my friends to sing 1 song. i counted, and there was maybe 60-70 people in the bar and he has the same 5 people singing over and over again in the time we were there. the bar is cool if your vibe is expensive ass drinks ($20 each) and a DJ in a crowded spot where you get bumped all night. but if you're looking for a karaoke bar- absolutely don't waste your time. we spent over 2 hours here on my birthday WAITING for our friends to sing and i felt like i literally wasted my birthday. i will never come here again and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more

My friend and I stopped by to check this place out. We were so impressed with the upscale setup of the stage for karaoke. It was really nice! Very fancy! We were hoping to sing a few songs, but found out from our bartender the karaoke didn't start until later in the evening. I meant to review this place months ago, but I was in San Diego for and got sidetracked! I came here for an event that was hosted by an associate of an associate. Because she was hosting an event here I did not pay a cover charge. This is a smaller to midsized establishment that serves various types of drinks, has food, plays music, and allows randoms to do karaoke! There isn't much room to dance, so don't expect to be able to do anything crazy, but I was able to get into the vibe and do a lil' side to side. They have a VIP area, and they play stuff on this projector type screen that matches the music when people aren't singing. Which btw, you can go up to the DJ area and put in a request to sing. People sang popular songs from all different decades. There is a slight dress code that I didn't have a problem with (I had a dress and some heels on), but I did hear from some other associates that they were turned away. So try not to come dressed too casual, or at least check with the establishment. (Price Range): $30+ (Crowd): Most of the people were chill and I danced with a couple of strangers. The majority age range seemed to be late 20s to late 30s. (Music): They played a lot of classic hits in the R&B, Hip-Hop, and other genres. I cannot remember exactly songs, but I do remember knowing a lot of them and liking them very much. (Location): It's in a very high traffic area of Gaslamp. There were hundreds of people and traffic was constantly being held up due to the congestion. Parking is pretty much non existent, but that's how Gaslamp functions. I took an Uber there, so I suggest doing the same. There is also a light rail not too far from the area, but it stops around 12:30 am, so it wasn't a good option when the clubs close a bit later. Seemed fairly safe in comparison to the other areas of San Diego. (Drinks): I tried two different drinks; a heavier mixed drink (maybe the South of Naples) and a sweeter, more fruity mixed drink that I liked a lot. I believe it was the Amore 75. The drinks didn't taste watered down and they were served in actual glasses. I couldn't handle anymore drinks because we decided to go to another place, but I definitely would have. I paid something around $17 for each drink. (Service): The entire reason I am even leaving a review is because of the excellent service that I received from the gorgeous woman (she had long braids or twists and reminded me of Zoe Kravitz) who took my drink orders. I wasn't able to get a drink at the bar, but she saw me and asked what I wanted. She was very friendly and even suggested a drink after my drink choice turned out to not be something I really liked. Incredible service here! I wish I remembered the bartender's name but he did a great job chatting with guests, making sure they were alright, and mixing great drinks. The DJ did a great job keeping the crowd dancing and singing to mostly nostalgic y2k hits. I had no clue that this was THE SPOT for karaoke. I loved how much fun the crowd was having no matter who was singing. This isn't a spot where serious singer go for karaoke, but more for the casually courageous and tipsy. Oharris is the absolute man and a huge reason this place deserves five stars. He runs Gaslamplighter incredibly well and made sure our group had an awesome night from start to finish. We got invited into this place by a promoter and said he'd give us a free glass of champagne, my friend and I finished it and asked if we can get another glass of what we just had and before I can finish he said NO it's for promotion only , so we looked for another type of champagne I wanted to taste it before my friend and I bought the 120$ bottle of one of their champagnes . This place is a go-to spot downtown, and it's pretty much always full. You can reserve a table for the night if you're with a group or grab one of the high tops or bar seats if you're just stopping in. The space is a bit smaller than I expected, but that's on me, especially knowing their OG location was a true dive in both size and style. This one has definitely leveled up. When I arrived, I was stopped at the door and told there was suddenly a $10 cover charge and that hats were not allowed. What's even more disappointing is that businesses should value their regular customers, not create unexpected barriers at the door with no warning. Policies like this feel poorly thought out and leave the impression that management is more focused on squeezing money out of people than creating a welcoming environment. It's unfortunate, because this used to be a place I enjoyed coming to during the week. We went in April and sat at the bar. Since it was early, around 8:30pm, it was pretty dead. I liked that they had two musicians playing the guitar and singing during my visit. Service was friendly and attentive, and the décor and lighting were excellent -- the place definitely looks great. The sound was decent overall, though for a bar that presents itself as higher-end karaoke, the mic EQ and reverb could use some fine-tuning. (Maybe I'm being a little picky since I do a bit of sound engineering myself.) I signed up to sing but ended up being skipped over several times, which was disappointing. The drinks were the biggest letdown. The Gaslamplighter martini tasted almost entirely like olive brine, and while the carajillo had a nice flavor, it was mostly sugar water with very little alcohol. Across 9-10 different drinks, none of us felt even a slight buzz -- and that's saying something, since my limit is usually around three to five drinks. It really felt like they were cutting back on the alcohol. Our final round, an old fashioned, should've been a safe bet -- but again, mostly sweet mix with hardly any spirit. The food wasn't great either. My burger came with no dressings or condiments at all. The vibe also didn't match what's shown on their website -- no dress code enforcement, and the music leaned more toward club-style than a true karaoke or lounge experience. If you're looking for a club atmosphere with the occasional karaoke number and light drinks, this place might fit. But overall, it felt overpriced for what we got. read more

We had our own server and there is no ''spend limit' for reserved tables. :: DRINKS & FOOD :: WAGYU BURGER ($12.09) - the ONLY food they have was a Wagyu Burger. No sides, no nothing, just a burger. We all thought that was weird, of all foods for an upscale bar, they chose a burger for their one menu item. A burger. We were told "it's an elevated in-and-out" but it tasted nothing like an in-and-out burger. It was basic of bread, meat, and thousand island sauce, (optional) cheese. The burger was good but just because it was served in a fake printed Louis Vuitton cardboard sleeve doesn't mean it's worth its price. *** WHAT THE.... another 'burger' was ordered but this time only BREAD AND CHEESE (no patty) and the next day after accessing the receipt they charged $12.09 for bread and cheese. I was hoping the ice would dilute the taste. It was still very sip-able but in moderation. RECOMMEND MARIYLN'S WAY ($17) - Gin, strawberry, lemon, bergamot, lemongrass. I ended up sticking to this drink as my repeat drink of the night. I don't really drink but when I do I love me a good gin cocktails this was mellow with a little bit of sweetness but toned down by the bergamont. Very easy to take in. HIGHLY RECOMMEND GLL ESPRESSO MARTINI ($16) - vodka, Kahlua, simple, espresso. This was the smoothest espresso martini I have ever had a sip of. It was clean. Usually you can taste the vodka and espresso separately but this one was mixed well the layers folded in nicely making it very smooth to drink with no strong aftertaste. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. THE GLL MARTINI ($18) - Italian Olive oil washed vodka, olive juice and black truffle salt brine, blue cheese olives, Gibson onion, caviar. It was dirty!! The only reason I would sip on a martini with olive juice is because of Sex In The City show... it taught me about dirty martinis. I got my bar tenders certificate in my early 20s and learned about the taste and making of a dirty martini. If you love a very dirty martini, this drink is for you! The salty elements coated the vodka well. RECOMMEND :: VIBE CHECK :: Live music was cool. Walking In to the live music made me feel as if I was entering a club in the 1970s in Colombia and about to start filing for a Narcos Netflix film. One that ended, Karaoke had an array of talent (and no talent) but it was so fun. The crowd sings along with whoever is performing and everyone having a gay ol time! The crowd is mature and not the freshly sloppy 21yr olds and felt the majority was 30's and (early) 40's. Although it's classified as "upscale", all walks of fashion walked in. They have the guys in tshirt and jeans who still think they are frat bros cheering each other on to drink, they have the people in padres gear because they just came from a game, they have birthday celebrations mostly dressed up in cocktail attire, they have someone looking like they were going to attend the golden globe awards, they have people who have zero fashion sense, they have people who are a little too old to follow GenZ fashion but 'trying' with their baggy clothes relax fit and crop top, they have basic everyday people. They had a bit of everything. It's SD, anything and everything was accepted. I am not a karaoke person but if this place got me tipsy enough to get up on stage to sing with friends "TLC NO SCRUBS" and also singing my lungs out in the crowd watching others sing... then I had fun. I made a visit to Gaslamp Lighter last weekend and had a great time! There are a lot of things that I like about this new cocktail bar/karaoke/live music venue and it was a perfect spot to celebrate my birthday. My reasoning for choosing Gaslamp Lighter for my birthday included: - Its location in the heart of gaslamp and close proximity to many other bars (it is sandwiched between Bang Bang and Sidebar) - A chance to dress up (dress code is sophisticated cocktail attire) - The craft cocktails - The variety of entertainment including live music until 10pm then karaoke This is definitely a new hot spot and there were about 3 other birthdays being celebrated while I was there. I observed the crowd to be more mature here, not your PB aged people but more like people in their 30-40s looking for a place to chill and possibly dance and sing some karaoke. One note is that you can reserve tables either online or by calling (if you have a bigger party) but they warned me that once it hit 10pm, that is when the tables on the dance floor started their minimums/bottle service. So what I did was reserve a table on the dance floor at 8pm and was planning on moving to the bar area at 10pm, however they allowed us to stay at our table since there were no other reservations (still no minimum) which was very nice. Just know that the dance floor seating is booths along the walls which does make it a little hard to talk to people. But this was a great spot to be up close to the live entertainment which was a Latin-inspired band who even sang me Happy Birthday. On to the cocktails - great variety of craft cocktails with a variety of spirits. On average they were about $18 so be prepared for that. I tried about 5 different cocktails and would say they are worth the price, the espresso martini was delicious and is near the top of best espresso martinis in my book. I do wish they had more food options though, currently they only offer a burger which they sold as an "elevated cheeseburger" which was a pretty basic burger and no option for fries. Hopefully in the future they will offer other appetizer-like options or shareable plates. They also did a good job with staffing, the ladies helping us were lovely and did a good job checking on us, you can tell they've had experience in the industry. The last thing to cover is the karaoke. How it works is you sign up on a clipboard and there is a small stage at the front with a screen for the backdrop that displays pictures (I think you can provide pics if you do bottle service) and other graphics/lights. Great opportunity to really unleash your Sasha Fierce. To close, I would definitely recommend checking out this place. You will be transported back to the 1920s amidst the chandeliers and neon lights where you can belt out some tunes or just enjoy some tasty drinks and music. The Gaslamplighter is a new, upscale cocktail bar and karaoke lounge in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter owned by the same group as The Lamplighter in Mission Hills. It's located in a narrow suite between Bang Bang and Side Bar on Market St. The current operating hours are from 6:30 pm to 2:00 am on Thursday through Sunday. The inside had a glamorous speakeasy decor with a small stage in the back for live musical acts and karaoke. The latter was unique as you don't find many cocktail bars where customers are asked to sign up and sing. I didn't catch a glimpse of the bar bites menu, but I did scour the menu of drinks closely. A dozen Craft Cocktails spanned two pages while another page was dedicated to three Coffee-Based Cocktails and two Zero-Proof Cocktails. Beer, wine, Evian water, and Red Bull made up another page. Champagne and bottle service were available for the high rollers including a $10,000 King Louis combination package. The bartender recommended the Tranquillo versus the Dolce Vita from the zero-proof choices. Pineapple, lime, and honey were mixed with non-alcoholic tequila in a tajin-rimmed glass. The taste was more tart from the lime than sweet from the honey. There was a singer who crooned some R&B hits before taking a break and giving way to those who wanted to karaoke. This place is so embarrassing. If you're a woman with an ounce of self respect and a fun personality, the bouncers cannot handle you. They will kick you out in the name of nothing because their moms aren't there to lick their wounds. They are the epitome of fragile masculinity and are complete fun suckers. If you enjoy getting the life sucked out of you and maintaining the same personality you keep at your 9-5, then this is the place for you. Otherwise, I'd advise Hillcrest.
