I arrive on a Thursday night on a whim. I keep hearing this is a decent place to chill. The elevator took a little bit but there were people coming down from the bar. I get there and they have plenty of seating available. I check out the bar and take a seat. The place itself is huge! Lots of great places to hang with friends and party. They had a padres game in and lots of specials when the Padres play. I had the Ballpark Paloma which has tequila , dragon fruit juice and grapefruit juice and soda. It was very refreshing and delicious. My only knock is I hate drinks served in plastic cups but this is normal for a lot of bars at the pools. The bartender Jason was extremely friendly and courteous and I was extremely happy with my drink. I will definitely be back soon with friends. read more

Came here the week of Comic Con on a Friday and it wasn't too busy. The Gas Lamp restaurants that were closer to the Convention Center were the busier restaurants. Was greeted immediately and was seated within 10 minutes which was great, but there was a little bit of wait to order our food. One thing I do when trying new restaurants is to check the menu out before hand and have my order ready to place once the waiter/waitress approaches the table. What we ordered Honey BBQ Wings: Crispy and right amount of sauce. Not drenched or soggy but the perfect amount and was delicious BBQ Bacon Smash Burger: Seasoned very well and the bacon was crispy. The burger was smaller than expected and the fries were really salty. Overall a great place to checkout and come with friends. Nice chill spot to enjoy a meal and has great music. 5 o'Clock Somewhere is the rooftop (4th floor rooftop) bar in the pool area of the Margaritaville Hotel. After a quick elevator ride from our 7th floor room, we strolled in just as they were opening up at 11:00 AM. It was a beautiful sunny morning. We found two seats at the bar in the sun. JulieAnna was our bartender. Wow! So pretty. JulieAnna had such an exotic beauty. She was super sweet too. We were just having one before heading to Petco Park for Padres Opening Day. I was happy to see that they had Ketch Brewing's Mexican Lager Alta Mar on tap. One of my favorites. High Noon vodka based seltzer was the only seltzer offering. Not Becky's fave, but not the worst either. 5 o'Clock Somewhere is open to the public and can be accessed via an elevator that opens up to the sidewalk below (on Island Ave.). You do not need to enter the hotel at all. Just head right on up. read more

Came here for a drink and app before comic con and it was nothing to write home about. It was dead when we got there Wednesday afternoon. I ordered a cocktail from their menu and the bartender had to look up the recipe and made it super juice heavy. She also disappeared in the back for several minutes after we said we needed a minute to look at the menu and took so long to come back that she was weeded with about 10 new people when she came back, but did remember to take our order first. Ordered the chips and dips app and only received 2 of the 3 dips. Had to go back up to the bar to ask about it because she hadn't taken my name and they didn't have any numbered stands or anything and it had just been ready to go back there. Would we ever have gotten it if I had not asked about it? Who knows. Pretty mid, touristy, probably won't be back. We had a stat at Margaritaville and came here for lunch before checking out. My friend got the Coco Cabana and opted for the "booze in a blender" so she was able to take home the blender cup as a souvenir for an additional $10. The drink was really cute! Great, would recommend. We've lived in San Diego most of our lives ( mid-70s ) and just recently noticed how much local we have that we never knew about. After visiting the Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville out in Orlando the other month, we realized we'd never visited our hometown one. Although this Margaritaville is a hotel, not a restaurant, the same kind of food and attention to detail is there. The first fun thing you experience is the dedicated elevator up to the restaurant. It picks up out on the sidewalk, not from within the hotel, which was kind of a surprise. ( I'm a little worried about that from a security point of view. Nothing stops a transient from pushing the button and riding up. ) Once you're up on the 4th floor, you're at the "5 o'Clock Somewhere" rooftop bar. It's great. Nice tables, nice view, even the bar menu was surprisingly far beyond what I ever thought a bar menu would offer. You share space with the hotel's pool but the guests don't seem to mind. The view over downtown and the ballpark is pretty good, too. Somehow I thought this rooftop destination was "the big one" for the hotel but that would be the Landshark Bar & Grill down on the street level, next to the elevator. That's large and looks good too, but if you want quiet seats and a good view, this is the place to be, not downstairs. Our server Thomas did a great job, we really appreciated him. read more

My family & I were staying @ Margaritaville hotel and on the 4th floor rooftop you would find a pool, seating areas, bean bag toss, huge Jenga & bar located up here. The pool are is very small for this size hotel in our opinion. My husband & I came up on the rooftop celebrating our wedding anniversary w/ some drinks on Sat July 19th @ 10:15p & closes at 11p. We were greeted by our amazing bartenders Brett & his coworker (do not remember his name) both of them were amazing, friendly & attentive. Brett was so knowledgeable about the area, spots, drinks & so much more. We were all from Midwest only less than hour from one another & connected very quickly. We ordered their classic large margaritas which were made w/ perfection. We have not had a Margaritaville drinks since our visits to Florida & Vegas. We talked w/ Brett the whole night & glad we came to the rooftop that evening. The next day on Sunday at 6/7p; we redeem our coupons for drinks & noticed the whole vibe of the rooftop was so different compared to the night prior w/ music selection & attentiveness of the bartenders working on this day. Most of them were either on their phones, talking to other workers & or watching a game on their devices. The staff on Sunday need more guidance on customer etiquette which you have guests at the bar. We had our 2 drinks that were made right away but when we needed anything else we did have to catch his or her attention to order anything else. What a fun, relaxing rooftop bar to go to with some great company! On the side of the hotel entrance, there is an elevator that will take you up to the rooftop. You'll notice that every table has a reservation sign on it -- don't fret! They just do this so that people don't claim all of the tables. Go up to the staff and they will bring you to a spot for your party. This confused me at first but staff were very helpful and attentive. I ordered the Coco Cabana and roasted elote dip. First visit for us here, and it's been an AMAZING place to just relax and drink some margaritas!! There's a lack of fast bar service, but we went today on such a day that's quite busy than usual to commemorate Jimmy Buffett Day, Aug. 29th. We were satisfied with a free benefit concert. Damn near starving after a day of tours and walking around downtown and this was the perfect spot. Rooftop with plenty of seating with a bar. There was a long delay in having someone come and take our order, but the server that took care of us made up for it. He was very nice and down to earth. I ordered wings and fries. The wings were SO good. Fried perfectly, juicy, crispy and flavorful. They really hit the spot. Our server brought out a tray of different sauces to try but I honestly didn't need any. Went here before a Padres game and had a great time! It's a fun little spot on top of the Margaritaville Hotel, completely Jimmy Buffett-themed with beachy vibes all around. They even have a pool you can swim in, which adds to the atmosphere! Service was a bit hit or miss. They were pretty busy, so it made sense that the waiter wasn't super focused on our table. My drink order got messed up, and after waiting a while for the waiter to come back, I just went to the bar myself. The bartender was super nice and got me the correct drink right away. I also asked our waiter for water a couple of times, and he pointed us to the self-serve water station, which was totally fine. At exactly 5 o'clock, they rang a bell and announced a $5 margarita special, which was a fun touch. I think happy hour runs from 4 to 6 pm, my gin and soda was only $6, so the deals were solid! Our table shared a smashburger, wings, and fries. Everything hit the spot, especially for bar food. Overall, it's a great place to hang out downtown before a game. I finally had a chance to visit this place after walking by so many times before. It's the Margaritaville rooftop pool bar on the 4th floor which can be accessed via stairs or an elevator from the main restaurant. I did really like the layout and ambiance, it boasts a large bar and seating/lounge area with cabanas in the pool area. The pool itself was a little smaller than I imagined but is good for cooling off and sippin cocktails. It also appears that regular patrons (non-hotel guests) are also able to use the pool. On this particular day there was a DJ, creating a fun pool party-like atmosphere. I also appreciated the games such as giant jenga and corn hole (note that you have to give your ID at the bar to get the bean bags). The reason for giving 4 starts was my experience with the customer service. I realize it may have been busier than usual but I would expect more attentive service especially on a money-making weekend such as 4th of July. We were told it was open seating and either a waitress would come to us or we could order at the bar. We sat at a couch and during the 5 minutes we were there, numerous waitresses walked right by us without saying a word. We ended up going to the bar to order and despite having 5 or 6 people working behind the bar, didn't receive a greeting or acknowledgement for quite a while. We finally got our drinks which included a land shark beer and the Texan Conga cocktail, both were pretty mediocre. However the cocktail prices were decent compared to the rest of downtown. Upon leaving, the hostess seemed too intrigued by her phone to bid us adieu. In all, I did like this place mostly for the ambiance but they could step up their customer service. read more

Day 1- service is so slow here. We ordered chips, dip and guacamole. Menu stated queso so we thought like melted cheese dip. Nope it's guacamole with chicks of cheese. Chips were so stale and guacamole was terrible. Margaritas were just ok. Say 2. Tried again. Service sucks. Sat at one of the couches because all the pool lounge chairs were taken. No one ever came to take our order. Went to bar to get our own drinks staff looked at us multiple times and never came over. It was well past 5 o'clock but before sunset when I visited the rooftop bar at the Margaritaville Hotel in the Gaslamp Quarter. This establishment was located on the fourth level of the property. It was one of the largest pool areas I have seen for a rooftop venue in downtown. There were plenty of lounge chairs, tables, and cabanas. Impressive giant life-like parrots were painted as murals on two walls of the building, one facing south and the other facing west. The semi-circular bar had about a dozen seats and was located towards the southwest corner. Six appetizers, two salads, three burgers, two tacos, and a key lime pie made up the food menu. Ten different specialty cocktails along with beer and wine by the glass were the alcoholic beverage offerings. I picked the namesake 5 O'Clock Burger for my meal. A 6 oz patty was cooked medium as I requested and topped with black forest ham, American cheese, a fried egg, and mayo on a brioche bun. The ham and egg added extra heft to the burger. A side of french fries came with the order. Apparently, there was also a show stage featuring live entertainment... music, magic, comedy, etc. I didn't notice it during my visit because nothing was on the schedule. The Gaslamp has numerous choices if you want a panoramic view of the city from several floors above ground. I would bet that the 5 O'Clock Somewhere Rooftop Bar is a little known option to many locals and visitors alike. The tropical atmosphere was very laid back, and with so much space to spread out, you won't feel crowded at all. read more

The good! The drinks are delicious and $14-$16 which is good/average here. The place is absolutely adorable. There's so many different seating options with bar seats, couches, comfy chairs, etc. The weird! Some people were served drinks in normal glasses and some in plastic cups. Seemed to be no rhyme or reason. We got plastic even though we were sitting at the bar and ordered food. The bad! Beer was expensive even for the area. Service was *fine* nothing was awful, it was just very low effort and energy. We ordered the poke bowl and specifically asked if there were onions. They told us no and it came out covered in onions. This place has summertime Margaritaville vibes from the moment you enter the elevator that takes you straight to the 4th floor. The rooftop gives a great view and you can catch some of the action at Petco Park especially around game time. Drinks are divine. Watermelon lemonade is a sweet treat. We decided to check this spot out and grab some drinks. The ambiance is very relaxed and the pool makes it even better. We got a few cocktails. I got a play on a mule, while my gf got the bartender to make a custom drink. Both were outstanding. We ordered a burger and while it was a very simple burger, it was soooooo good. The second you walk onto the rooftop, you'll forget that you are in the downtown San Diego area as you are transported to a fun, energetic and beautifully decorated rooftop. There is a cocktail menu filled with specialty drinks, and a food menu That should have enough items for everyone to find something that they love. The cushions are decorated as slices of lemon and lime, the umbrellas are bright and colorful, there are giant parrots painted onto the building - it's a visually gorgeous area. We had three cocktails, and an appetizer - it was fun sitting on the rooftop as it is a great escape from the busier downtown area.
