A few friends and I went to LIPS for the first time on Friday. We took my 74 yr old brother (a successful Houston Diva a few yrs ago.) We were made to feel welcome from the first moment we stepped in. The show was amazing! We were totally entertained. They kept us laughing throughout the night. We were honored to grace the "Golden Girl" table. The food was excellent (and we are tough judges). My Eggplant Parmigiana was the best I have ever had. The chicken piccata was equally delicious. A fun and lively way to celebrate a birthday! Staff and performers at Lips are personable and welcoming. The performers are absolutely beautiful and amazing at keeping the energy high. People with birthdays are called up on stage and individually celebrated creating that unique memory. The food off the pre fixe menu wasn't spectacular, but truthfully it was more about the show than the food. I did order their shrimp fettuccine with garlic bread which I thought tasted fine, but did wish the sauce a little thicker. It has been a long time since I have come to Lips. We always have a blast with the beautiful Drag Queens, their sketches, improv and amazing performance. They really go above and beyond to make every guest feel super special! We were 6 in our group, made reservations in advance and got the VIP table. It is a pre fix salad/dessert menu, but for entrees you have quite a few options, including a Vegan one for Vegan people. So the price is for the show and dinner. Drinks are separate. We ordered lots of different things from the menu and it was pretty good. Coconut Shrimp was the best for me. We had reservations for 7pm, doors opened 645pm. We were able to take pics with the Drag Queens on stage, start dinner. Show started around 8:20pm and lasted until around 10pm. Super entertaining, fun, amazing outfits, very spicy and sassy language. So if you feel embarrassed easily it is not your place to go or maybe yes! To get out of your comfort zone. Great place for celebrations! Birthdays, anniversaries, bachelors and even a divorce celebration! Take cash for tipping the show girls. No change, no worries, they walk around your table giving you change of 1 dollar bills. The only thing that would make Lips even better is that the furniture is a little run down, seats and booths need upholstered and to be updated. Sign outside is also missing half of the sign lights. They are funny, entertaining, and CRASS, so if you can't handle a joke - don't come - it's not for you. What it did lack though was the food. The dishes were cold and my chicken fried steak was incredibly salty tha I just couldn't finish it. My cousin got the chicken and waffles and it was cold and the waffles were hard as rocks. Again, the food wasn't the most important, but not being edible was a little disappointing. The drinks included were okay and a bit watered down, but I do recommend buying some extra shots to get you going. Celebrated a friend's bday here on a Wednesday night. We concerned about the parking, so we uber here and only to find out that they have a pretty large parking lot. The doors opened right at 7pm, and the place decorated like a moulin rouge style scene with colorful chandeliers, spotlights and Leon light creating a very vibrant atmosphere. There were three performers and they were impressively multi talented. Before the show started, they also serving us, taking orders and bringing out foods. The foods turned out better than expected, especially we were not originally going for the dining. After dinner, they even helped to clean the table before transitioning fully into their performances. They dressed up as various artists, and lip sync to songs by icons like, Amy Winehouse, Tina Turner... The night felt a bit chaotic, but in a fun way and everything came together nicely at the end. Just a heads up, they bought out a little bday muffin we didn't order, and it wasn't complementary. All in all, this place is great for a birthday or a night out when you want something a little different and entertaining. read more

My friends and I ( group is 12) came in this past weekend. It was the first time for everyone. Giving this establishment 3 stars because the food was gross!!!! Salad tasted sour, no one at my table ate it .. chicken strips has no flavor, cheeseballs were rancid tasting and chunky, etc... but I don't think they have a 5 star chef In the kitchen- I think they are just doing what they can! This year I finally got to experience my first Lips show and dinner plus brunch for my birthday. Both times were entertaining and they really do take care of you. The queens are fabulous and so talented. I wish I had their wide range of skills but thoroughly enjoyed the show! Especially when my friends got taken up on stage to strip and collect some tips hehe. We had the best time ever for my daughter's 21st birthday. The servers were so kind and attentive along with hilarious. All the performers went above and beyond to give such an amazing experience for everyone. Food was always so good and the portions were perfect. I ordered the mushroom ravioli that came with the pesto sauce and it had about 7-8 big pieces of the most yummy mushroom stuffing. The drinks are good too! We didn't drink or anything so our most expensive drink was $5.00 for a virgin Shirley temple. We got sat right next to the stage and got to experience everything super close. Our host for this show Paris continuously kept the crowd entertained with lots of laughter! I have gone to many drag show experiences, but this was probably in the top 5 for me & I would gladly attend another one on a visit back to Sd. A few negatives are although every seat is good- the table we were at sometimes caused the show lights to hit me directly in the eye so I had to divert my attention to performances. I went to Lips in San Diego on a Sunday. The food itself was good--I ordered the steak and eggs and enjoyed it. Unfortunately, the service really fell short. After our food was dropped off, no one asked if we needed anything else. My friend wanted Tabasco and I wanted steak sauce, but the server put the plates down and walked away. Trying to get assistance after that was nearly impossible since the staff stayed busy. I ended up using ketchup, and my friend had to ask the table next to us for their Tabasco. They were great about keeping the mimosas coming, but not so great about refilling water, which was what I was drinking. For a place that's supposed to feel fun and inclusive, I honestly felt a bit out of place. They advertise unlimited drinks, but I don't drink alcohol. I still enjoy going out without drinking, but this just wasn't really my vibe. My friend does drink and mentioned the mimosas were pretty watered down anyway. The performers themselves were talented--great singing, dancing, and stage presence. However, there were moments where things felt a little unpolished. At one point a performer was late to come out during a song, and everyone was looking around confused. I also noticed what appeared to be a brief spat between two performers, which took away from the experience. I probably wouldn't have written this review if it weren't for the way the bill was handled at the end. When it was time to pay, an automatic tip was added to my card without any explanation. I had cash ready specifically to tip, but I wasn't given a receipt or a pen to write in a tip amount myself. There was also nothing communicated beforehand about an automatic gratuity, so it was very confusing and frustrating. It felt like the server tipped herself. Overall, the experience left a bad taste in my mouth. It came across as a place that really wants you drinking so you'll spend more, and if you don't sign for a tip, one might just be added for you. The whole thing felt very scammy, which is disappointing because this place may have been great back in the day--but it just wasn't for me. read more

Their website said they're the #1 drag show in San Diego and I was like "sure, Jan". We had no reservation for 5 but they sat us anyways and everything was great. The drag queens are the servers, performers, lighting technicians and hosts. It was a fully immersive experience. Our mimosas and Bloody Marys never ran dry. The food was included with the price too, if you wanted steak and eggs it was a $3 up charge. I read some of the other reviews and they said the queens were obscene and crude and aggressive but honestly I didn't feel that, but that's what I expect from a drag queen. We had an amazing time. We celebrated my friend's milestone bday here and it was fabulous. Loved the beautiful Drag Queens esp the Emcee, Paris and Jordan who kept the bottomless mimosas flowing. (Not the best Chicken and waffles I've had.) My friend shared some of her steak and eggs with me was much better. But honestly it would be great if the food was better but we're really there for the show. They have several shows on the Saturday we went to. Our seating was at noon. We definitely felt a bit disoriented when the show was over around 2:30pm and it was all bright and sunny outside. Hahaha. Great place to celebrate bdays, bachelorette parties,divorces etc . It's fun. It's hysterical. It's flippin expensive. Food is serviceable. It's good but there are issues. When it's served it's just kinda thrown at you. They are jammin hard and trying to get it done but do not expect 4-star food service. The show is amazing and the atmos is right on. My pasta came with bread so hard and cold it could not be eaten. The shrimp tacos were actually good but came with one tortilla. Stupid. The staff is super nice and they know how to work the room but it's all in good fun. 280 dollars for five people with very few drinks + the the dollar bills for the performers so over $300.
