I've been to Lips a couple of times and have always had a blast. We go with a big group and there is never a dull moment. I've experienced it both drinking and not drinking and both times were super fun. Reservations are a must, especially if you plan on going with a lot of friends. The entertainment is amazing and the energy level is high. Leave your habit at home and be sure to bring your sense of humor because it can get a little raunchy. The ladies sure know how to put on a show. The food is decent. It's pretty good considering your main objective here is not to eat. The drinks are tasty and strong. Make sure to get them from the bar instead of the waitress to avoid paying taxes on them. read more

Last night was my 2nd time at Lips. Both times were awesome. The ladies work their sweet asses off and deserve all the tips. The performances are loud, fun, and memorable. I can't wait to try the Gospel Brunch, and Taboo is definitely next on my list. The 4 stars here are for the ladies, the performances, the cute busboys, and the bartenders. The only glitch for me is that the food could be improved upon. There aren't any vegan choices on the menu, but when I asked, I did get a delicious salad. But the other five people in my group felt the food could be better. I get it. We aren't there for fine dining. The show makes up for any food issues. But I do wish it was better. We have enjoyed many an event there at LIPS SD. Celebrating with you over the last 8 years were birthdays, in-laws visiting, Pride, anniversary you name it. It also including celebrating the last 8 NYE's with you. That being said.I say the following objectively, not as Tootie's friend but as a customer. Without exaggeration or exception NONE of the prior NYE celebrations were as over the top perfection as this past NYE. From the decorations, the backdrop onstage, the costumes, the music while being sat and cocktailing. Everything was setting the mood for what was to be a night of perfection in entertainment, epicurean delight and fun. Each number, every costume, the hair, even the guys in costume all added to a well thought out plan. It was an immersion of the 1920's..The theme was everywhere and consistent. Then, when the show started, it shot into orbit . Each girl really outdid themselves. Again ,yet another perfected look while giving a flawless presentation. I was so proud to have brought my friends to LIPS. I always am, but this night even more so. Other years there have been "themes" as well and although each number was great , the girls looked great, and the food was wonderful, it was more of a variety show with no cohesiveness with the theme.numbers, costumes, stage set etc. Yes, it was enjoyable and a great night, but this year it came together seamlessly. I watched the guests really enjoying themselves, singing along with all the jazz numbers, smiling in pleasure, and then so many videos on FB. Having been in Food and Beverage for 40+ years ( I started as a child), including working in hotels and running 2 of our family's restaurants in Waikiki, I know a good thing when I see it I also WORKED NYE in the Casinos, at the High Roller parties. The caliber of the talent and the overall experience of the night rivaled the best venue in Las Vegas. I have often said" NYE at LIPS SD is the deal of the year", this year I change that to " it was the STEAL of the year". Came here one night with friends, and we all had a marvelous time! The place, hidden in one of the streets in North Park, was magical and glamorous as you enter (think: Alice in Wonderland but with more sparkles and colors). The food was better than expected: the salad was refreshing, the salmon was a bit salty for my taste but overall okay, and the cheesecake was only okay with no wow factor. The drinks, though served with too much ice for my taste (I like a stiff one), was good with a blend of different flavors and aroma. The highlight of the night were the drag queens. These ladies also dance amazingly, and boy do I hope that I can dance like them one day. Watching them perform is way more exciting than watching the Olympics! These gurls showed great hospitality to guests of different colors, sizes, personalities, etc. They made us feel like home by sparking conversations and showing everyone a great time. Birthdays and soon-to-be-wedded were celebrated, and also an attendee's coming out party! We learned to celebrate each other that night. Went here for my friend's birthday. It was an amazing time! I also brought a little birthday sign for her bday dessert and they happily obliged. She assumed it was from them when the cupcake came out! I was worried it would feel warm inside like a bar, but it was perfect inside. It was very cool and airy the whole time. The drinks, food, dessert, and service were all wonderful. I was extremely pleased with all of it as I didnt have high expectations. We got the appetizer sampler and it was large and all delicious. I got the chicken roulade with garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli. The broccoli was perfectly cooked - crisp and yummy! The mashed potatoes were wonderful, and the chicken was huge and delicious. I couldnt even finish it. We got a yummy cupcake for the birthday girl and cheesecake - also yummy! The drinks were all strong and delicious. The vibe and music was so fun. Went here for my cousin's bachelorette and there were about 7 other bridal parties, but I could see why this place is so popular for events like this! The servers are the entertainers, and ours (VaVaVoom) was awesome and hilarious. The show itself was extremely funny and engaging too and I lost my voice by the end of the night! It is ~$27 per person for a 3 course meal: choice of Caesar or Garden salad, a main entree, and their dessert of the day. The food was pretty good, but I'm not sure it's worth almost $30. However the mushroom ravioli I ordered was quite delicious! Their DRINKS though... that's another story. All their drinks are $9.50 and not only is it a generous amount but they are DELICIOUS! I ordered the "Pick That B*tch Off The Floor" and it literally tasted like CapriSun. I also tried their "Hot Wet P*ssy", which was honestly my favorite. It tasted like candy!!! Cover charge is not included in this though. I believe that it is $10 on the weekend. Overall, it's pretty pricey, but you do pay for the show and I think it's worth it! I came here for a friend's bachelorette party. It was on a Friday. Dinner was $21.95, we ordered from a pre-fixed menu which was the "Lipstick Menu". I enjoyed a Chicken Marsala plate which included mashed potatoes, and veggies and I believe peanut sauce. I usually take left overs home but I finished my whole plate. For dessert we had gig's famous brownies with whipped cream. Food was really good. The waiters were constantly coming by to check on us but not in an annoying way. They were working hard clearing off plates from the tables, and re-filling waters, etc. Also had to pay a cover charge of $10, which was added on the check at the end. Drinks were about $9-10.50. The Bride to be got the "Pick this B@t$h up off the floor" which she said was really strong. Decor: The bathroom is pink/girly with rhinestones on the wall, very cute. In our particular seating area there was a broken heart above us, with a skull head to the side, which was pretty interesting. There were actual red lips on the wall going upstairs, by the restrooms and a group pic of the drags together. Entertainment: These Drag queens were put together from the makeup, to the hair, outfits, to the voices, etc. They did a great job entertaining the crowd and performing certain songs by lip singing, dancing, and getting the crowd hyped up. This is a unique get together event for birthdays, bachelorette parties, divorce parties, etc. The show is about an hour long but is centered on the real woman they bring up in the audience who are celebrating a special event which is cool. read more

The food wasn't the best but the show makes up for it, I wish they had a larger variety of meals. They do offer plenty of drinks, they all have very interesting names. This is the perfect place for a bachelorette party or just to hang out. A lady next to is was so upset when she arrived, I assumed she didn't know where they were bringing her. Fifteen minutes into the show she was singing along and just really having a good time. The good- the performers are great! Very athletic and they put on a SHOWWWWW! The OK- Food is so so. Three courses. A small salad, the main entree that is just ok, and a pastry that seems to be something you get from Costco. Not amazing, not bad. But then again, who's there for the food. The bad- I've been to Lips about 4 times now. They really try to push you to get drinks, which comes with the party scene, right? Well, my friend was on her 3rd drink of the night and she was vibing with the show, when a security came up to her and seemed to make small talk. He then swooped her drink up from the table and took it back to the bar. Her drink was about 3/4 full and she followed him and asked what was happening. He told her that he was cutting her off, and she asked why. He ignored her so she grabbed her drink and headed back to our table. He followed her and they had an exchange of words because we were all confused as to why he had taken the drink. FYI, I was only on my first drink and fully aware of everything that was going on and was just as confused as she was. Another security guard stepped in and apologized to my friend several times and we just let it go and tried to enjoy the rest of the night. The worst- When it was time to pay, we got the bill and everything was correct. FYI- NOTHING IS FREE. If you're celebrating anything, they'll give you a crown or a cupcake or something similar and they will charge you for it. It's not on the menu, they don't tell you how much it will be when they offer it to you. That personally doesn't bother me but it would be nice to let people know that a paper crown is gonna run you $12. Anyways, back to the bill. READ CAREFULLY SO THEY DON'T TRY TO HUSTLE YOU- You'll get a paper receipt and a smaller makeshift receipt on top of it letting you know how much your total is WITH a 20% tip already included. My group (3 of us) had already tipped over $80 cash during the night (double the 20% they wanted) and did not feel the need to tip even more. We told our server to just charge us the total without tip because we already tipped in cash. She said we HAD to tip what was on that makeshift receipt. I told her we weren't going to. She walked away and returned looking very annoyed. She ran our card, slammed it on our table when she returned it. THIS IS WHY THEY PUSH ALCOHOL SO MUCH. They get you drunk and you don't notice they add a makeshift receipt charging extra tip, no matter how much you had tipped already. JUST CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS CAREFULLY AND UNDERSTAND YOU WILL BE EXPECT TO TIP MORE AND THEY WILL TRY TO HUSTLE YOU. Expect to pay about $100 per person including food, drinks, and tip. read more

Lips isn't what I expected - this straight Catholic boy has never been to a drag queen performance before, so I didn't know what to expect. Once I let my inhibitions down (with the help of a couple of bottles of Stella Artois), I had a good time with my friends - even though I got groped by Miss Just-Ass on more than one occasion last night. Guess my Filipino attraction was in full effect... just not on the right females. The performances were amazing; while there were a couple of duds, there was a Lady Gaga impersonator that was spot-on. She had the look and the dance moves totally down, it was that uncanny. However, be prepared to pay A LOT here; it's a $15 minimum per person (not including drinks). While the food was delicious, my prime rib was on the fatty side. Plus, you have to pay for the entertainment as well - let's just say that our group of six paid $43 per person, so caveat emptor. HILARIOUS. I've been here twice, once for Gospel Sunday and Wednesday for Bitchy Bingo. Gospel Sunday is quite a show because it's a gospel/church theme, durh. It is quite a unique experience, but it is absolutely fun and hilarious. You need to come in here open minded and I'm sure you do because why else would you go here lol. Anyway.. just yesterday, my girlfriends and I took my best friend out for her birthday and did Bitchy Bingo night. I thought we were going to play bingo the entire night but that wasn't the case. We got a show and then towards the end we had quick game of bingo. Everyone says the food is aiiiiight and it is.. but I was surprised that my mushroom ravioli w/creamy pesto sauce was actually reallllly good. Our server was Geena-with-a-weena... hahaha.. and I would have to say we had the best looking server. "She" was absolutely glamorous and super nice.. her make up was amazing! haha. Also, Paris one of the other drags had one of the best performances. It was legit and her belly dancing was good! It was a fun night! And for $10 bucks, they give the birthday girl/boy a cake and pull them on stage for a quick spot light and picture. Absolutely a great and unique place to celebrate a fun birthday. read more

My friends and I went to San Diego for a baby shower that became entirely something else. This is where we ended up. We had no plans for Saturday except to day drink and somehow ended up here for dinner. No regrets. My friend who lives locally had heard of this place, so we decided to make dinner reservations on the same day. By the time we got there 3 out of the 4 people were already wasted. The uber ride was highly entertaining. I digress. We checked in then headed straight to the bar while we waited to be seated. Luckily, we ended up sitting next to a great group of people who let us take a sip of their drinks after we mentioned how good it looked. Our server was Cheyenne and she was gorgeous and perfect. She was just the right amount of everything. Attentive, funny and knew exactly the right words to say. Being that we were inebriated when we got there, everything, and I mean everything tasted heavenly. We started off with the calamari which was basically the best I've ever had. We also shared a mozzarella/tomato salad, shrimp fajitas and the shrimp pasta with white sauce. We cleared all the plates. I, for one inhaled every bite I was given. The show was great. Every performer looked divine and put on a fantastic performance. All in all, an awesome experience. Between the 4 of us, the tab was respectable. My only suggestion would be for the show to be longer. We got there right at 6 and were out shortly before 8. I understand there's a second show, but I'm just sayin. They'd make more money if the show was extended by a half hour. I would definitely come again. read more

We arrived at 11:30 PM and the queue to get inside was not too long. This check-in point is a great time to get a drink in for the 2 drink minimum. The drinks are pretty strong, get an appetizer sampler to soak up that alcohcol. The queens put on a great show and made the birthday girls and brides feel special! They get special pictures, attention etc. The queens do NOT force you to do anything you don't want to, for example, all the birthday girls and brides went up to do a shot but one conservative bride did not want to go and the host did NOT make a deal about it. read more

Soooo much fun! We had a party of 11 celebrating 3 birthdays and a post bachelorette celebration. We had 5:30 reservations on a Saturday night, promptly seated by 5:45, courteous and friendly host, very busy yet still let us know about the show, bathrooms and they'd be by to change $$ for dollars so we can tip the entertainers; he hinted to order drinks directly from the bar because the servers get busy - very good tip!!! An entire page of delicious specialty cocktails and shots so of course we had to start celebrating with libations, all are very tasty! Lolita was our server and she's on point, friendly, funny and entertaining. The meal comes with a green salad with a sort of Asian dressing. Main meal you have a choice of a dozen choices from salmon, mushroom ravioli,penne with vodka sauce, grilled chicken, a curry vegan dish, chicken roulade ( which was delish, filled with ricotta and spinach topped with a mushroom Marsala sauce) for an extra $6 bucks a sirloin steak which hubs and bro ordered and were impressed. Lips was the most fun I've had in a long time!!! The ladies all were phenomenal and work so hard to put on the best show. They were all very sweet, had amazing costumes on and were just straight fire . If you aren't careful you can get really wasted on their super strong alcoholic drinks to the point where you have to lean over and throw up in the bushes or try to run into traffic (which is what happened to a few girls from the previous show). You won't regret it though- the show and energy was phenomenal. Can't wait to go again.
