This place isn't what it used to be. Waited 45 minutes to be seated. The host at the front managing the list of people waiting is the most unfriendly and unprofessional person they could have put at the front to be the first image when you walk in. She has the outmost worst attitude and questioned my daughter's age when we were being seated in the terrace as if she knew her. The food was cold when they finally brought and the service was very poor unlike other times. Sadly, this might have been the last time I visit this place. read more

For many, LionFish is an undiscovered gem. Excellent seafood, very good variety and creative dishes. The only thing keeping me from giving them 5 stars is that sometimes there's inconsistency from the kitchen on the specialty dishes. Waiters at this place will bug you to death if you don't tip enough. About 30% is what they expect!!! Other than that the food was good albeit extremely slow when the place was practically empty! But it does get packed at lunch time so get there early if you want a nice serviing of vietnamese basa fish. They claim is seabass or curvina!!!! But I've eaten enough basa to know the difference!!! This place is absolutely fantastic. I love trying new restaurants, but I would go back to this place in a heartbeat. When I arrived with my girlfriend on a Saturday night, initially we were slightly disappointed we hadn't made reservations beforehand. There were a lot of people (about 15) waiting outside the restaurant. However, most of those people were leaving and waiting for valet, so don't fear if you see a large crowd. I hadn't even gotten through half of the complimentary beer when my name was called for a table! The speedy service continued through our whole meal. At the table we were greeted with chips and tostadas along with three different salsas. My girlfriend's favorite was the spicy green one, whereas I liked the dark brown one although that was on the saltier side. There was another one that was sweet too. To start with, we ordered the tostada sampler, green ceviche, and marlin tacos. You can order as you go along, and I recommend doing this because the serving sizes are generous. The tostada sampler was absolutely amazing and a must-order. You get one of each of the tostadas: tuna special, red snapper, mazatleca, and crab. My girlfriend didn't particularly care for the abundance of grilled onions on the tuna special, but I thought they were delicious. Anyway, considering the tostada sampler is cheaper than ordering all of them individually, this was a fantastic deal. Eat like a Mexican: If you don't have a lot of experience eating tostadas, the trick is that you have to take at least two bites at first. You need to be holding all parts of the tostada, and then take a bite... Then, when the tostada cracks, also eat that part too. (Alternatively, you could do what my girlfriend did: Hold it with both hands and look like a squirrel eating nuts.) The green ceviche (shrimp) was excellent. If you enjoy spice, this would be perfect for you! And even if you don't, you can easily pick out the peppers and enjoy the ceviche anyway. There were plenty of chips, and also tostadas, served with these. If you haven't had marlin, it's a type of tuna that is red, very fine, and stringy. It's popular in Baja California, so while you're here, give it a shot! It was my girlfriend's first time trying it, and she liked it. This would definitely have been enough food for both of us, but we were feeling gluttonous so we also added two more tacos. We got the California taco and the quesa lion taco. For the California/chile relleno taco, you want to pinch off the end with the stem before you start eating! This had a bit of a kick to it, but it was definitely tolerable even for me. The quesa lion taco was quite cheesy and delicious. Incredible meal! For two of us, it was $36 USD and some change (prior to the tip). It is well-priced, centrally located (very close to CECUT), and amazing in every aspect. If you like seafood, you can't miss it. read more

This review is long over due. This place is fantastic! The best sea food, for a fraction of what you would pay for in California. It was only my second time visiting TJ, and this place was recommended from a friend. The food was amazing, drinks amazing. I don't speak Spanish, but the waiters were very accommodating. The manager was even going to order an uber for me and my sister take us to Rosarito. My only regret is not having enough time to stay longer and try all the amazing looking dishes. Next time i'm in TJ this will be my first stop! read more

I think it might had been a bad day for them, I saw many good reviews that I decided to try it out. Service was not that great, I kept running out of beer and the waiter was not around, several times we had to ask someone else for service, the food was not that great either. The food looks good in the screens that are hanging on the wall and when you get the food, but the taste was not that great, my mouth was very salty in a couple of hours till the next day. When I went to the restroom, I saw all the waiters in the back playing grab butt with each other. When it was time to leave, they ask me, how much do I wanted to leave them as a tip, I said the minimum. They didn't like the 10% I left as a tip. With all the excellent restaurants across the border, I had to try this one. Will not go there again and will not recommend it to family, friends, or coworkers. read more

Divine! My cousin has been trying to get me here for months and finally on Saturday evening we came, with a party of 12 no less. We were originally told the wait would be 30 min but we were seated in 7! This restaurant keeps it moving. Service was excellent and the food was to die for. Literally only 10 min from the border and worth every peso. The prices are insanely cheap for the quality of seafood. Tables favorites: Clamato, michelada, fish nuggets, oysters, tostada sampler, tuna special, garlic shrimp taco, and the coco ice cream. We will be back again and again every time we are in TJ! The only problem: in a place full of families and people having a good time, all TV sets we're transmitting super violent kickboxing fights. Their menu is perhaps a bit too diverse (they could probably chop a couple items off their menu where nothing is 100% authentic to the countries they are inspired from), but I highly recommend their fish and chips, chicken souvlaki, or chicken karaage. First time at Lion Fish and I was very impressed. Place is clean. They have a smoking patio area and indoor nonsmoking area. I went on a Friday around 1 and there was no wait. We ordered agua chiles, a shrimp covered in coconut batter, tacos gobernador, a jicama taco and everything was amazing. We also got beers, a gin sangeria, mango mojito, a pineapple drink and a tamarindo margarita. My top fav were the mango mojito and the gin sangeria. Servers were very attentive. I will definitely return. Oh and they also have valet parking which is very convenient in tijuana. read more

As a local from Tijuana I had been eying this place for a while now, friends had recommendations this place because the food was really good, however because it's in a very busy and centric area in Tijuana I was kinda mentilizing and preparing myself for all the people that was going to be there, but to my lucky surprise I went there very early and didn't have to wait in line nor was fulled so that was good. I love food but service for me is super important and sometimes places that get very crowded tend to lack on the service area and oh was I wrong!, I was very surprise on how attentive and helpful all the staff was, re assuring me if I was good and if a need it something else other than the food I ordered and gave me recommendations on what to have (never in a pushy way staff was very friendly and I didn't feel obligated to order their recommendations like other restaurants made me feel). And now the food part, because it's a seafood place I wanted to try some warm foods and also cold foods and so I did. Their menu is actually pretty good and so affordable, I was totally shocked in the beginning because it is so famous and physically the place looks very good I assumed it would be kinda expensive but there is different types of seafood and price ranges that for me felt GREAT! So lets talk about the warm foods, my first choice was a California Taco and a Salmon Adobado and OMG guys both of them was just so good, my favorite was the Salmon Adobado (if I can have them all week I would) and for some cold seafood I had 2 different type of tostadas; one was a Mazatleca Tostada that is a ceviche that is specially prepared and a Tuna Tostada. Both of them where great, good amount of food for a tostada (both of them). And of course I couldn't forget to get a cold Michelada to finish of my lunch. Over all I enjoyed this place and will definitely go back to try more of their ceviches and their bigger and popular meals. Little tip: If you're like me and don't like to wait in line I suggest to go early that's just me, but just be prepared because sometimes theirs can be a little waiting time to get in depending of the peak hours and how crowded it is. read more

Great service and food for appetizers and the happy hour was great. The server was very kind and helpful. The entrees were not what I was expecting. Cilantro is not a side to a dish when you are paying good money for an entree. You can't eat cilantro as if it was a salad. The seabass was good but it only had a bunch of cilantro, not appealing. The scallops were delicious but the carbonara was not at all. Bland. We will come back to try more. read more

So this is definitely my standby to take San Diego tourists when they want to go down to TJ. The food here is unbelievable and very reasonably priced. The red snapper tostada... ugh, amazing. For something really great try the corn ice cream, trust me, it sounds gross but its AMAZING!! If it were just the food this would be a 5 star review completely. They lose two stars because the last few times I've been down there the service has really been fairly sub par. First couple of times it was excellent, but last two times they seemed to ignore us, we didn't order enough and went in for a second round that was completely forgot about, same with a second round of drink orders. I really hope it wasn't because I was a gringo, I have passing spanish and make an effort and order off the spanish menus (because by now I know them pretty well) but was a bit disappointed in service. I'm hoping it was just a bad few days on their part, but hopefully its something they can work on. UPDATE: I'm updating my review. The customer service issue i experienced here seemed to be related to a bit of a cultural mixup. I took two of my much younger (and much prettier) staff members, and they were mistaken for, ahem, ladies of the night. We'd just gotten back from Rosarito and they were dressed is tacky mexican sarapes... THANK YOU shout out to my bank teller who I told this story to and she started laughing at me for being such a dumb tourist; explaining what was really going on.
