This place has been around for ages. I dined in late with my fiancé and we ordered a three taco dinner plate, tacos and two horchatas. I told the waitress I wanted a three taco dinner and she responded, "3 dinners or 1 three taco dinner?" With a bit of an attitude. I think I made myself clear when I said a "three taco dinner plate" which is three tacos, rice, beans. We got our tacos and noticed they garnished it with lettuce and tomatoes which is a big no for us. We wanted onions and cilantro only. The Al pastor was garnished with cilantro and onions but the rest was lettuce and tomatoes. The portions were generous, beans were good, rice was good and horchata was good. We just didn't like the excessive amount of lettuce and tomatoes on our tacos and rather just have onions and cilantro. Is Lindo Guadalajara a secret unrecognized Michelin Bib Gourmand? Of course not. It's an all-night Mexican diner. They will make you a ridiculous omelette at 3 AM, with a side of wilted lettuce and a bit of refried beans topped with "cheese". My Spanish is absolute garbage, but it's mostly enough here. I've been coming here since college, and I don't intend to quit any time soon. Look. Places like this don't last this long unless their customers are dedicated to something besides some kind of objective greatness. I would highly advise you to think twice before eating at this restaurant. Our family ordered dinner from this restaurant as we had it once before and liked it. Our food was delivered to a complete stranger's house ( the stranger saw our address and brought it to our door) the food had been delivered to them upside down and the food was in the plastic bag. In other words, we could not eat the food. When I called the restaurant about this, the person who answered the phone said it was out of their control. If the answer is affirmative, it can be a game-changer and Rosa J. can die happy by having menudo everyday! Otherwise, Lindo Guadalajara wouldn't be my top choice among many Mexican restaurants in the city. Except their horchata, it was quite delicious and had a good balance of sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon. Their torta de carne asada was offered in a "kiddie" size. Come on! I have had twice of the size at a taqueria inside the supermercato for the same or a similar price. My menudo ($8.50) wasn't anything extraordinary. Why does the north-side Chicago like to jack up the price for a bowl of menudo? They do have a minimum cap for a credit card purchase: $7 with a valid photo ID. This is one of those hole-in-the-wall places you might avoid from its no-frills appearance and lackluster neighborhood. Don't. It's authentic Mexican food like I learned to love in Texas. Not TexMex at all. Real Mexican. Not a lot of sauces, just basic fresh ingredients and simple authentic food. (I regret not looking at photos or reviews. I always order Al pastor and for whatever reasons didn't this time.) Back at the homestead, the lengua looked tasty & succulent. However, it was not seasoned and bland. I had to douse it in red salsa. Their salsas are HOT, not tasty & spicy. So hot, my tastebuds turned off and I had to sip water for some time till I could stomach eating again. The chilaquiles was offensive. Eggs overdone on top of mush served with rice and refried beans. (W/ chilaquiles, the chips that are served underneath the eggs will become mush when doused in a good salsa. But, if the salsa & chips are fresh, it should all taste great.) I'm going to have to figure out how to reconstitute this mulch into something reasonably tasty... Less than impressed. Based on reviews by Yelp folks I trust, the Al pastor would have been winner.
