Stopped in here after a long day of drinking with friends and it really hit the spot! The al pastor burrito was incredible, guac was fresh, and the chicken/corn taco was great too. Would go back again next time I'm in Chicago and it's reasonably priced. read more

Flaco's Tacos - Al Pastor Burrito - Mexican Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

This is the second and last time I'm ordering from this restaurant. The first time they didn't deliver my chips with an order of guacamole and still charged me. Now this time I paid for an 8oz guacamole and received a 4oz size and three sauces I didn't ask for. I paid extra for some habanero sauce. The other two I didn't request. If I knew their mini burritos were smaller than a taco dinner I would have ordered that and saved $2! I have an 8 oz container of rice and beans. So now I have all these chips, small burritos and nothing to accompany all these chips. Thank you for your comments, but you don't address the missing guacamole associated with the meal. Mini burritos are smaller than a taco and has hardly any meat, beans or cheese inside. Your description should read bite sized not mini. That's closer to the truth. read more

It's not all bad, but it's not exactly what I would call good either. Flaco's Tacos does have a couple of things going for them. First, they offer great horchata in a fountain, so you can refill as you please. The tacos are also large and cheap. Finally, the service is both kind and fast, and seating plentiful. What was a complete and total miss, however, were the tacos themselves, which is kind of the whole point of going to a taco restaurant. Oops. Recently, I had the displeasure of trying the Picadillo Taco (a special) and an Al Pastor Taco. The Picadillo, as I understand it, is ground beef and potatoes. This one was topped with lettuce, tomato, and cheese. While the meat was seasoned with salt, it was otherwise bland, flat, and uninspired. As for the lettuce, it was on the softer side and cut more for a salad than for a taco. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't wilted, but it lacked the crunch and freshness the taco needed. No complaints about the tomatoes, but the problem is these veggies had no seasoning whatsoever. The only salt in this taco came from the limited amount in the meat and cheese. I want to be able to enjoy a dish as-is and add condiments and sauces as a desire, rather than a necessity. The Al Pastor Taco was better, but only marginally so. The pork felt more like it was braised rather than roasted. It had that characteristic ancho flavor, but no evidence of a Maillard reaction. Further, it lacked any discernible pineapple. In my opinion, without pineapple, an Al Pastor is not an Al Pastor; it's just ancho-braised pork. I have no complaints about the toppings here, since these were a more traditional onion and cilantro. Overall, though, the meat is supposed to be the star, and it didn't shine. As much as I wanted to love Flaco's Tacos, while eating these, I was wishing I was at Taco Bell, which I don't even love that much. I would hope that a small business would do their shtick a heck of a lot better. While Flaco's could work in a pinch, there are more than enough good, great, and excellent taco places in the area that a return to Flaco's is likely not in the cards. They added benches to their outdoor seating! This will make it much easier for groups to sit together. It adds an element to their outdoor patio space as well. To order, you have the option to go to the counter or through a touchscreen/kiosk found next to the soda machine. The tacos are pretty big. Usually two tacos will be enough for me. This day I ordered three tacos: the ancho chicken, fish, and al pastor. These all came out hot and fresh. My favorite of the bunch was the ancho chicken. The chicken was tasty. The main reason I visit Flacos is for their frozen drinks. They make a delicious frozen sangrita! So refreshing on these hot summer days. read more

I love Flacos! I work nearby and their order and delivery system is top notch! Sometimes I walk to pick up my order and it's always ready on time! Prices are decent for the area and they are great to collaborate with for catering orders. Food is good and consistent and the space is clean and inviting. read more

Flaco's Taco's is one of my go-tos for a simple, yet delicious dinner. My favorites are their cowboy and street corn chicken bowls with a side of chips. Their margaritas are delicious too and shouldn't be skipped. If the weather is nice, I highly suggest dining on their patio. read more

My order on February 3, 2026 was excellent! Today my order was inedible! I could not believe how poorly the tacos tasted.

Locates under the Red Line near Loyola's campus, you're probably coming for the drinks. The food isn't bad, but the drinks shine and the frozen margaritas are 10/10. The place itself isn't that big, they don't have too many tables inside. The service was ok too, nothing negative there. read more

The food is not that great considering the fact that Chicago has more mexican people in it than NYC. U are much better off walking an extra 5 minutes for authentic mexican that is the same price if not cheaper. If ur a loyola student live nearby or are in a rush for some reason it does the trick. Otherwise just mid mexican cuisine- which is still yummy and worth the price. Margaritas too sour i would rate 2.5 but i gotta round it so two stars im afraid read more

Tacos were good. Everything else was bad. The "elote" is canned corn with watered down Mayonesa.. a Sprinkle of cheese and some chili power.. I guess I wouldn't be so let down if I didn't just blow 10$ on the elote.. CRAZY oh and NO DINE IN AND NO RR read more

I feel like this was a really good bang for my buck, personally! I got this rolled tacos plate which came with rice and beans. If I'm not mistaken, it's on their happy hour menu along with the marg flight I got. The flight was a fun touch to my taco Tuesday, but it wasn't super flavorful. I got all 4 burritos as barbacoa and they were pretty good. This is located right under the train so if you're planning on staying long just a heads up you will feel the rumble read more

Perhaps it's my Mex heritage or the number of States I have resided in during my career and the number of Mex establishments (restaurant and/or fast food) that I have eaten their fare from. I was disappointed in the carne asada tacos I chose (with accompanying sides). I scanned the previously posted reviews which were mostly favorable so I encourage any reader(s) to review my take with a grain of salt. The tacos were smallish in size. The carne was chewy The tacos were loaded with what I would call extraneous ingredients which distracted from the tortilla and carne. The entire meal was not authentic to my taste. Now that I reside in Chicago I will avail myself of the plethora of Mexican food establishments. Next stop is in the Pilsen area of Chicago If any reader(s) wants to point me in the right direction I would welcome that input. Con mucho gusto... read more

I never heard of this place before going - I was just out and hungry. Wow was I pleasantly surprised. The taco Al pastor was ridiculously delicious and the star of the show. The ancho chicken was pretty good and so was the poblano. Service was nice and I like the mix of indoor and outdoor seating. I'm excited to go again! read more

I was very satisfied with my visit to Flaco's Tacos. My peach marg was awesome! If I lived in the neighborhood I would be coming just for an end-of-day marg - it totally hit the spot after a long day. Tacos were also flavorful & filling. I ordered the street corn chicken taco and the Al Pastor. I'd order both again and I'm not a big fan of corn. Chips and guac were a terrific starter. The patio offers a chill space in which to enjoy the margs & food. Based on my first visit, I recommend and would definitely return! Especially for margs! read more

Thank you to Sarah for fixing my order with no problem.. I appreciate that customer service.. we love this location..

Nothing but great experiences with Flacos. Great food. A little pricy but fantastic service and you get a great amount of food.

The service was fine, but he food was not. It's a little disappointing but it is what it is. The steak bowl had no real flyovers that bursted out or developed. Everything was one note with not much flavor. It needed more tomatoes and sour cream. The red salsa doesn't taste like anything. The green salsa at initial taste was good but as I continued to eat it. It wasn't. Just an overall not so great experience with the food. Wouldn't recommend nor would I go here again. read more

So I gave this place another try and yep 2 stars is for all the delicious drinks from the liquor to the non liquor...The drink game here is strong even the horchata. And It all ends there...Food is straight trash...No seasonings were harmed in the making of any dish at Flaco Taco. Can someone in the kitchen please use some salt or adobo or something? The food here as gotten worse since my last visit. If you are looking for Hospital version of Mexican food you will love this place...lol read more

Love this place! Taco Tuesday hits differently at Flaco's. It's always an exciting day to see what the special taco is going to be. Thank you for charging my phone and give me your best two tacos! You fed a girl and got her home safe.

the food is always so flavorful and a great larger portion, quick take out and everyone is kind :)

The Street Corn Chicken is my go to when I come to this place and I personally think the burrito is fire. The food is very reasonably priced for decent quality Mexican. Located under the Granville "EL" red line. I recommend dining in as the food gets better prepared and the burritos are toasted. They have seating in two separate areas that is decently large seating. read more

Some restaurants have a menu where every item is fire and some places it's more like a landmine of mediocre options. Suffice it to say, my order at Flaco's is the same every single time . The Street Corn Chicken Bowl and a margarita (or a sangrita if you're feeling fancy.) That is literally all you need to know. Order it now, order it often. It usually comes with one or two chips, so order a side of chips and guacamole if you need more crunch. No need to stray from this perfect order. Enjoy. read more

Fantastic food and quick service! Even let us bring our dogs in and provided water bowls for them. So accommodating!

Margaritas and service were good. They have no queso, although it's on the menu. Quesadilla was more cheese than chicken. Would return but get something besides the quesadilla. read more

I really wanted to support what I thought was a neighborhood restaurant, but the dining experience they offer is a series of disappointing choices. The vibe is casual but very loud: it's right underneath the red line Granville stop so the building shakes every five minutes when there's a train. The food honestly was flavorless and the margaritas were way too sweet. You'd get far better value on a margarita elsewhere. The largest disappointment was what they called "Mexican fries" on the menu: fries with no salt that were lightly sprinkled with pre-made taco seasoning. I understand Mexican-inspired cuisine doesn't mean it's always going to be authentic, but the very least this restaurant could do is make sure it honors the strength of Mexican flavors. As a whole, eating here was the culinary equivalent of gentrification. Support the Mexican-owned restaurant on the corner instead. read more

The food here is decent. Tacos I recommend are the carnitas or cowboy. The best option is the nachos, most bang for your buck! Lots of chips and the guac isn't extra, just included in the nachos. The employees are very friendly and every time I've gone it feels like a party. The margaritas are very pretty and strong too! And the employees offer bottles if you don't finish the Marg so you can take to go read more

I would be lying if I said I was not surprised when I ordered 3 tacos and guacamole with chips, to see that the price came out to nearly 30 dollars! That's right. No drink, dinner for one. So here's the thing, I have absolutely no problem paying high quality prices for high quality food, service and presentation, cleanliness etc. On the food, delicious. Hot, tasty, fresh ingredients left me quite impressed. I was not expecting the food to be as impressively delicious as it was. I ordered tacos, the shrimp tacos which contained cilantro and slaw, as well as the chicken street tacos which had corn, cojita cheese and tajin. 10 out of 10 on the flavors. Very well done! The service. Look, if I'm ordering at the counter and sliding my card and then given the option to tip on the screen, maybe a more cheerful and smiling staff wouldn't hurt. The cashier made some good recommendations, but certainly not before they made certain to mention that they hadn't tasted much of anything because they were a vegetarian. Fine. The CLEANLINESS: The biggest issue overall was the blonde woman in the kitchen, on the line playing in her HAIR!! I couldn't believe it. Incredibly inappropriate and completely unsanitary. Taking her hair out of a ponytail, running her fingers through her hair, and then putting it back into a ponytail -followed by immediately grabbing a taco wrapped in foil from the cook, putting it into the brown paper bag, folding it shut, and then handing it to me without a word or a smile. Disgusting. Who allows this lady to play beauty salon on the line while simultaneously actively handling food? If the employees had better sanitation training, the only recommendation I'd have would be a less impassive demeanor from the cashier. read more

There are many taco places, but only one Flaco Tacos. Nestled under a CTA overpass with an open area outside, it is popular with Loyola students and locals. They have a set variety of popular tacos and also have burrito varieties and a few sides. All are prepared well but be prepared to pay about twice as much vs. a traditional taqueria. Overall, it is a good destination restaurant. read more

The Al Pastor Burrito was pretty good! The size of the burrito was huge and it definitely filled me up. I definitely suggest the red salsa over the green one when pouring it over the burrito but both still worked well. I think a peculiar flavor I tasted was this pineapple ish/citrus flavor in it? It was definitely different from other Al Pastor burritos I've had but I'd eat it again! read more

Stay away from the pastor pork. Way over seasoned and awful. I asked for a large burrito and ended up getting the small one.. again, found out when I was home, is it that difficult to get it right? Their salsas are very watery, trying to save? The steak is rubbery, probably old. Bad service, rude. I placed an order and they were getting a party size order together, they wouldn't make my 2 burritos until they finished the large one, 10 minutes later. Do not recommend this place read more
