This is the second and last time I'm ordering from this restaurant. The first time they didn't deliver my chips with an order of guacamole and still charged me. Now this time I paid for an 8oz guacamole and received a 4oz size and three sauces I didn't ask for. I paid extra for some habanero sauce. The other two I didn't request. If I knew their mini burritos were smaller than a taco dinner I would have ordered that and saved $2! I have an 8 oz container of rice and beans. So now I have all these chips, small burritos and nothing to accompany all these chips. Thank you for your comments, but you don't address the missing guacamole associated with the meal. Mini burritos are smaller than a taco and has hardly any meat, beans or cheese inside. Your description should read bite sized not mini. That's closer to the truth. read more

It's not all bad, but it's not exactly what I would call good either. Flaco's Tacos does have a couple of things going for them. First, they offer great horchata in a fountain, so you can refill as you please. The tacos are also large and cheap. Finally, the service is both kind and fast, and seating plentiful. What was a complete and total miss, however, were the tacos themselves, which is kind of the whole point of going to a taco restaurant. Oops. Recently, I had the displeasure of trying the Picadillo Taco (a special) and an Al Pastor Taco. The Picadillo, as I understand it, is ground beef and potatoes. This one was topped with lettuce, tomato, and cheese. While the meat was seasoned with salt, it was otherwise bland, flat, and uninspired. As for the lettuce, it was on the softer side and cut more for a salad than for a taco. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't wilted, but it lacked the crunch and freshness the taco needed. No complaints about the tomatoes, but the problem is these veggies had no seasoning whatsoever. The only salt in this taco came from the limited amount in the meat and cheese. I want to be able to enjoy a dish as-is and add condiments and sauces as a desire, rather than a necessity. The Al Pastor Taco was better, but only marginally so. The pork felt more like it was braised rather than roasted. It had that characteristic ancho flavor, but no evidence of a Maillard reaction. Further, it lacked any discernible pineapple. In my opinion, without pineapple, an Al Pastor is not an Al Pastor; it's just ancho-braised pork. I have no complaints about the toppings here, since these were a more traditional onion and cilantro. Overall, though, the meat is supposed to be the star, and it didn't shine. As much as I wanted to love Flaco's Tacos, while eating these, I was wishing I was at Taco Bell, which I don't even love that much. I would hope that a small business would do their shtick a heck of a lot better. While Flaco's could work in a pinch, there are more than enough good, great, and excellent taco places in the area that a return to Flaco's is likely not in the cards. They added benches to their outdoor seating! This will make it much easier for groups to sit together. It adds an element to their outdoor patio space as well. To order, you have the option to go to the counter or through a touchscreen/kiosk found next to the soda machine. The tacos are pretty big. Usually two tacos will be enough for me. This day I ordered three tacos: the ancho chicken, fish, and al pastor. These all came out hot and fresh. My favorite of the bunch was the ancho chicken. The chicken was tasty. U are much better off walking an extra 5 minutes for authentic mexican that is the same price if not cheaper. If ur a loyola student live nearby or are in a rush for some reason it does the trick. Perhaps it's my Mex heritage or the number of States I have resided in during my career and the number of Mex establishments (restaurant and/or fast food) that I have eaten their fare from. I was disappointed in the carne asada tacos I chose (with accompanying sides). The Street Corn Chicken is my go to when I come to this place and I personally think the burrito is fire. The food is very reasonably priced for decent quality Mexican. Located under the Granville "EL" red line. I recommend dining in as the food gets better prepared and the burritos are toasted. I really wanted to support what I thought was a neighborhood restaurant, but the dining experience they offer is a series of disappointing choices. The vibe is casual but very loud: it's right underneath the red line Granville stop so the building shakes every five minutes when there's a train. The food honestly was flavorless and the margaritas were way too sweet. You'd get far better value on a margarita elsewhere. The largest disappointment was what they called "Mexican fries" on the menu: fries with no salt that were lightly sprinkled with pre-made taco seasoning. I understand Mexican-inspired cuisine doesn't mean it's always going to be authentic, but the very least this restaurant could do is make sure it honors the strength of Mexican flavors. As a whole, eating here was the culinary equivalent of gentrification. Support the Mexican-owned restaurant on the corner instead. read more

They have a set variety of popular tacos and also have burrito varieties and a few sides. All are prepared well but be prepared to pay about twice as much vs. a traditional taqueria. WAKA FLACO FLAME This trendy taco spot is where all the cool Loyola kids go, evidently. I was advised by nursing student Maddie B that Flaco's had some worthwhile tacos and she was right. We happened to go on a $1 taco Tuesday which was good timing on our part. It was bustling with hungry college kids on a weeknight during finals, and it seemed to be fairly popular among the local residents. We walked in and ordered a quartet of tacos, along with some flavored margaritas and chips & guac. The latter came first as I could tell that the chips were freshly fried and the homemade guacamole was solid. My cherry and her strawberry margaritas were poorly mixed; a big pool of grenadine syrup sat on top and made for a few very saccharine sips. The daily taco was braised pork shoulder with potatoes and a green sauce. For a buck, it was a good value. My 'al pastor' taco ($3) wasn't half bad, and my companion indicated that the chicken taco was decent. The crowd was predominantly college kids (I felt so old!) and Edgewater hipsters. Bread = 3.5 Circuses = 3.5 I'd give Flaco's Tacos another shot, but it wasn't anything life-changing like Torchy's down in Austin TX. read more
