Usually it takes me only a couple of weeks to try all the taco places in a new neighborhood. Embarrassingly enough it took me three years to get to Taco Boom . Right on Lincoln Ave, They are known for quesabirria tacos and boy did they deliver! These tacos were so big that I couldn't immediately dip them in consommé ! I wasn't as wild about their sides , but I impulsively ordered thinking I wouldn't be full. 2 tacos make for a decently filling lunch for me. Ever since Austin I have missed the tacos!! While visiting my sister I finally tried taco boom for lunch and they were so good! They have an entire section of vegetarian and vegan tacos/items! Their soy tacos with that spicy sauce?! Omg. So good. Price was great for Chicago, and we got our food quickly! Will definitely order from here again! read more

There's something about the quesabirria that keeps us coming back. It's best when you have it there. This is exactly what I've been looking for when it comes to Mexican food. I've been here about a year and about once a month I've tried different places in different areas. I've finally been blown away. I can't believe this place wasn't busy. We gotta change that. The people were so friendly and nice. They had a good balance between letting us eat and talking to us about the food. The meat was plentiful and well-seasoned in the burrito. It wasn't ground beef like a lot of places do here or microwaved steak. The restaurant itself was a fun little fast casual spot. Check it out for sure. read more

What started out of a food truck became a storefront sometime into the pandemic. Had they been a couple years early, they could have made some bank on the bar hopping karaoke crowds. There are two entrees they are known for. Birria and their take on a birria pizza which if you're a pizza lover is worth a try. Taco Bell's version of a pizza has nothing on this. Much of the menu is (enter your favorite adjectives here) tasty, worth the spend, delicious and since opening they have only added on new, fresh menu items worth tasting. This area of Chicago is lucky to have a few quesabirria restaurants to try and Taco Boom is one of the top of the list. read more

I came to Taco Boom to look for a closer alternative to Pilsen for Mexican food- it's a decent substitute but doesn't quite compare to some of the other places I've gotten quesabirria. The waiter was so so nice and took the time to explain their most popular items, but he was the only one serving tables on a Saturday night, which made the service pretty slow. I really liked their al pastor taco and would come back to try some other taco flavors, but I would skip on the asada taco which was too dry. The quesabirria is decent, but nothing to write home about. The most disappointing dish was the birria ramen, which looked great at first but was far too salty. The ramen noodles also seemed like they were literally taken from a cheap cup ramen, making them way overcooked and too soft in the broth. Overall, I'd say give it a try given the affordable price and numerous raving reviews- just skip the birria ramen! read more

I've been in search for a good Al Pastor burrito that meets my LA-upbringing standards, and although I haven't found a place that is as good yet in the Chicagoland, I must say that the Al pastor burrito here was fire! It had a slight crisipy-ness to it that really made every bite enjoyable and I love the little sweet notes in it. I wasn't sure if it was pineapple, but it resembled it for sure. The reason why I took off a star is because the burrito sizes themselves are not very big! I'm hoping they can add either a little more girth to the tacos or make them slightly longer because I was a bit hungry afterwards. I will say that the green and red salsas were good. This is one of my new favorite taco places in Chicago! They specialize in birria tacos and other birria options! I have order both for delivery and in person. I got the quesabirria and taco el patron. My boyfriend got the birria taco. Everything was so good, juicy, and the consume was so flavorful. The salsa they have is a tad bit spicy but we love spicy so that was okay for us. In addition, the man who took our order and gave us our food (presumably the owner) was super nice, and was really helpful with any questions and recommendations. I've been trying Birria around chicago and found this restaurant through Yelp. Walked in and placed a to go order. They were quite busy with orders but were very welcoming and explained the menu. I ordered the quesa birria , pastor taco, and asada taco. The birria was the cheapest price I've paid AND included the consome. Most restaurants are now charging over $3 just for the consome and about $6 for a single quesa birria . Anyways it was delicious, and large. The pastor was also one of the best I've had in the city, very charcoal flavored with crispy bites , nice flavors, with a bit of charred pineapple. The carne asada taco contained a massive amount of meat and was also good. My only feedback was I wish they offered straight up avocado as an add on. You can only choose guacamole. I hope they keep their prices low, I'll be back soon! read more

I am all in on this quesabirria trend. A few restaurants around Lincoln Square have opened up and started serving these delicious tacos, but so far, Taco Boom has been my favorite! The meat is so flavorful and no matter what iteration it shows up in, it is truly fire. Whether it be the classic quesabirria taco, the pizzadilla or the ramen birria, you honestly cannot go wrong. One note when trying to interpret the menu: the prices when ordering (particularly for delivery) are for single tacos unless otherwise noted. First visit today and it was insanely good..no doubt the best quesabirria we have had in city! Store was SUPER clean, owner and staff so nice and right away explained the menu to us. Came here on a Tuesday night and it was busy. There was only one server. He was quick to get our order but kind of slow to give us our order which was understandable because of how busy it was. There was a group of about 12 people he had to manage as well. It's a typical divey restaurant but it's so good. I would highly recommend the place! If you're going to try out some tacos, come here. We got the Al pastor volcanes, tripa, and carne asada. The carne asada was kind of chewy. Tripa here is the best tripas I've had this far in Chicago. It is so good that I'm going to use them as a standard for judging other tripas. The volcanes are like tostadas and they were $3.75 each. They give you plenty of meat which was great. We got the quessobirria which was like a torta and you dip it in sauce. It was so good! You have to try it. It's a big portioned sandwich so it's more than enough for one person. Must try! This was the second stop of a taco fix night. Busy busy night here. There were only two people working when we came in and these guys were hustlin. Despite the how busy it was, service was great. I ordered one of the vegetarian pastor tacos and the man got his steak taco. First I had to appreciate the "fake meat option" being available. Love me some fake out takes. Excellent service and freshly made food in a comfortable dining room with a huge front window that slides open for an indoor/outdoor feel. I had probably the best skirt steak taco ever. The seasoning was exciting, the meet freshly cooked to a medium, guac, onion and cilantro to top it off. The shrimp was good but I prefer it cooked even lighter if possible. Flavor was good tho. The rice was long grain, which I prefer, but they do give quite a lot, I ended up having quite a lot leftover. I wish the had a bit more cilantro or other herby mix to increase the depth of flavor, but overall still pretty good. Queso was also really good, thick and creamy, not too salty, but sadly the kids didn't like it as much. Husband also liked the gochujang pork a lot, said it was actually really really good.
